[edit] 404'd

I still don't think it's notable that for a couple of minutes the page was 404'd even though the update was up... this happens a lot, like nearly every week. — Defender1031*Talk 10:36, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

The page still isn't up. Just the Flash file. I know I don't edit here much anymore, but that seems notable to me. Shwoo 10:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
It's, uh...still doin' the 404'd thing. Maybe they were just both really tired and fell asleep having forgotten to make the link work? This has definitely been more than an hour, and I dunno about what's happened in the past, but...this might be worth a looksee. -- Onamuji 13:26, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it's about 2pm now, and I'm STILL getting the 404'd message. I cleared my cache, too. Help? -- Nevadie 21:19, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
The Main Page, toons links and the cartoon itself were added some time before the page was made, so users were met with a "404'd" message for the first few hours after the update. This sentence is bad. It sounds like the main page was added before the page was made. Uh yeah its been up for years. -JamesDean

[edit] Questionable Surgeon

His voice matches the announcer's voice from business trip and nightlife, doesn't it? He does go, "Mmmmmm" and "Yes, that's right" in the same fashion. Would that go under remarks or inside references? --66.82.9.58 13:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Am I the only user who's taking notice of this bit of information? It's under the discussion page because other users might disagree with that fact when they see it in the article and immediately remove it. --Charlie Jr. 20:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd say it's worth a mention in inside references, as long as you give each one a second listen and make sure it's exactly the same. LikeAsItself 21:04, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Surgery.

Is this a new running gag? I could have sworn I heard something long ago about Marzipan having sugery done...67.161.122.193|14:40, 25 February 2008

Other instances I found include Strong Bad's lace-lift and The Cheat getting declawed, but nothing about Marzipan's surgery. It fits that rule about 3 appearances, but I don't know if these are unusual enough appearances for an article. Bad Bad Guy 23:10, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

This is #2 in a row involving noses, however. If next week involves a proboscis as a joke, there's a new weird pattern going.--64.193.79.137 23:15, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Surgery Photo

When I first played it, the photo didn't pop up. Awexome 17:39, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

What photo? Me neither. Is there a photo?
Worked for me, my prediction is that we will see different version of Marzi surgeries in the sketchbook section later. I R F 18:58, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] accent

Listen to Bub's voice... LiStEn To iT! You can here this in Happy Dethemberween too!! Was that here before?!?!

What are you talking about? Do you hear something different from normal? Why don't you describe it so we know what you are talking about? Maybe someone can answer you when we know what the questoon is. P.S. I LiStEnEd To iT! and Happy Dethemberween too!! and I don't know what to listen for because you aren't saying what you're talking about.
Same Here, and plus, Coach Z's voice was a little different than normal this time. --76.204.90.137 23:11, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
well, he is making a sad attempt at talking like a gangsta, so that doesn't count. as for bubs, i dunno, maybe his voice is a little higher than it used to be, but i wouldn't bet money on it --Zatchman (Neumannz) 03:27, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Uh, I guess the best way to describe it is "raspy." When Bubs talks over the phone in Happy Dethemberween, his voice sounds a little........ exagerated(<--spelling error?). Well... Listen to him say "shut up, kid" and then listen to him say "shut up, kid" over the phone. You might notice. It's a hard-to-see difference, like seeing Coach Z's arms aminated in Trogday '08 differently. HaldoHelscome!

[edit] Unpluged Microphone

Hey, it's that guy named Ben from the Fanstuff Wiki. I think Coach Z's unpluged microphone is a refrence to unpluged phones. Yeah. And I bet the phone he was using was unpluged as well.

[edit] Bubs's arms

Bubs's arms seem to be back to their old two different Flash pieces being animated separately. Is this notable? Homestar-Winner (talk) 23:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

eh, stick it under "remarks" and we'll see how quickly it gets deleted --Zatchman (Neumannz) 03:30, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cheatanese

Is it unusual that Strong Bad had to translate The Cheat's prank call, when Marzipan's never had any trouble understanding The Cheat before (especially in Date Nite). In fact, this is really the first time anyone had to translate for the Cheat, isn't it? Other than cheat talk, everyone usually seems to have no problem understanding him.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 00:05, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

It COULD be the case that Strong Bad is the one on the phone and The Cheat is standing next to him telling him what to say... and then he grabs the phone away to gnaw on it... or he's gnawing on the phone itself rather than the receiver or something. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:36, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

It COULD be just some thing they did to be funny.

Also remember that while marzipan can understand the cheat we can't.--Nogain 12:28, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
No, I agree with Johnny, the same thought struck me as well. -- lelila (talk) 07:06, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Nogain raises a good point, though. I'm certain it was done for the benefit of the viewer, because otherwise it would just be a bunch of squeaking on the phone. Not a very interesting message. --DorianGray 07:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I kinda figured that's why they did it. But in this case, since it involves dialog between characters, shouldn't look beoynd what was done for our benifit and anylize what it actually means to the characters. I guess it would better noted in Inconsistencies.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 08:14, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ad-VER-tiss-ment?

It's probably not typical of the Chaps to make reference to Internet memes in H*R cartoons, but the Questionable Surgeon's pronunciation of "Ad-VER-tiss-ment" is oddly reminiscent of how the announcer says it in this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-3qncy5Qfk (key line: "We interrupt this adVERtisment to BLOW YOUR MIND!") --96.225.193.131 00:38, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

It's actually fairly common that they do, even if the references are deleted by wiki users who refuse to acknowledge them...but isn't pronunciation of a common word pretty TTATO?--64.193.79.137 00:48, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Right. "Ad-VER-tis-ment", as dumb as it sounds, is actually a legit pronunciation of the word[1]. So no reference. Has Matt? (talk) 00:56, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Technically, and the only reason I bring this up is because it's a common mistake that I and a lot of people have made, it's NOT TTATOT, because there is no "that" or "other thing" that it might be referencing. It's just not a reference, like Matt said. Nightsong81 02:46, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
"Ad-VER-tis-ment" is the common pronunciation of the word here... I had to look it up in a dictionary and ask an American friend about it before I knew whether TBC actually pronouncing it differently than usual, or were just being random with the "I pronounced it" bit... --phlip TC 08:42, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I think the idea here is that in the U.S., the pronunciation "ad-VER-tis-ment" is considered rather snooty when compared to the more common "AD-ver-tize-ment." It's rarely heard here, and when it is, it's often used by people catering to the upper class with their wares, so, um...I'm getting off-topic. Anyway, yes, it is the most common pronunciation in basically every English-speaking country in the world except the U.S., but, um...when has that ever stopped us from making a long-standing joke about other cultures? It's so common in American comedy routines and what-have-you that it's the very definition of TTATOT. -- Onamuji 15:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Coach Z unplugged

Is this too awkward to somehow combine or associate this instance into Coach Z's unplugged phone history? (There's already a page dedicated to Coach Z using unplugged telephones.)

I'd be inclined to say this is unrelated. For now. Phone unconected = loser; mike unconnnected = lecher. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
i don't even get that --Zatchman (Neumannz) 03:32, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I think it should be a reference. He DOES use a lot of unplugged things, so it fits with the gag. And I agree with Neumannz; that didn't make sense. :P -- Nevadie 13:47, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
He's saying that a person speaking into a dead telephone hoping for communication is a sad loser, whereas inviting a younger girl over to the house to see electronics that are fake is more of a creepy old man thing over a lonely old man thing.--64.193.79.137 23:10, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hmm?!

Does anyone else think the KOT's "hmm" in his message sounded freakishly like a-da Cheeat? I was looking at the hrwiki page while the message played, and was suddenly struck by the thought, "What's the Cheat doing in that message?!" Though, um...I don't really know how or where this would be notable, unless I was widely agreed with...um...yeah. -- Onamuji 15:29, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

umm... no. Not at all. — Defender1031*Talk 17:56, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] We have disputes over Coach Z's words waay too much.

Didn't want to get into an edit war by changing the transcript without a post, so here goes: I'm definitely hearing "micarophone," not "microdaphone." Does anyone else agree? If not, I won't change it, but I'm pretty dang certain. Like...83%. -- Onamuji 15:36, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lord Quackingstick

I know this is just nitpicking and it honestly doesn't matter, but can we really say that it's Lord Quackingstick in a blonde wig? No one calls it Lord, but Bubs does call it Lady. I vote Lady Quackingstick is a new pseudocharacter.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 08:07, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

As you know, we don't really "vote" here (except in a desperate situation) - we build consensus. I think the fact that Strong Bad voices it, it is exactly the same except the wig, and it's simply really funny that way (Marzipan is "so" the only girl they have to dress up a male as a girl for Bubs to have a movie date), all point to this being the old Lord with a wig on. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:58, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I agree. To use words Qermaq recently said to me, "the intention is blatant". -DAGRON 10:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Big red Round thing?

I dunno if it's worth mentioning or not, but there is a big red round thing sitting next to lady quaking stick in the theater easter egg.

and you can see it better if you view the flash file too

those wacky guys,....balloons don't watch movies, they listen to books on tape!

That's Strong Bad providing the voice and movements for "Lady" Quackingstick. Manolios 14:46, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Word of mouth or, word, I'm out?

I thought it would make more sense if he said, "Word, I'm out!" than, "Word of mouth" Just a thought.

I always heard "Word 'em out!" --DorianGray 05:41, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
There's no "th" sound, so the last word seems to be out. The second word is more difficult. -DAGRON 05:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I definatly heard "Word, I'm out!" I'm at least 90% sure. HaldoHelscome!
I hear "Word of mouth". — Defender1031*Talk 19:47, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I hear no "f" in the second word, nor a "th" in the third word. HaldoHelscome!
Well of course not, it's in an ebonics accent. — Defender1031*Talk 22:23, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Oooh, I see. Then how are we supposed to settle this argument?? HaldoHelscome!
The same way we settle all of them, by discussion? — Defender1031*Talk 22:35, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
African American Vernacular English does use a "-th" sound. I distinctly hear "Word, I'm out." —Guard Duck talk 23:53, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
I second that. HaldoHelscome!
Regarding a recent relevant edit to the subtitles page; I hear "Word 'em out". Not sure if any of the suggestions actually make sense in context though. The Knights Who Say Ni 04:49, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Let's try this again. I still hear it (and have ALWAYS heard it) as "Word of mouth", though pronounced as "Word o' mout'". "Word, I'm out" makes no sense to me. "Word of mouth" is a common expression. — Defender1031*Talk 09:08, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Without the context of the song, neither option necessarily makes more sense than the other. Listening to it, I can hear how it might go either way, and I can imagine Coach Z being more liberal with using the phrase "Word, I'm out" than "Word o' mouth". --Neumannz 17:55, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

[edit] "Hmm... Yeees", Flapjack's next stolen gag.

Doctor. Barber. H*R sighting. Another ripoff from H*R. That is all.--Jellote wuz here 23:58, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Care to elaborate? If it's just "Hmmm... Yeees", that's not enough. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
The accent, the pause, the usage. It's perfect. If it were a one time thing, that would be something else. But Doctor Barber uses this in nearly ever appearence. Considering that they take gags (Candy Mountain! Adventure!/Candied Island! Adventure!) every so often, this makes sense.--Jellote wuz here 00:13, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I care to differ. In docter Barber's speech it is something like, "Hmmmm, yes. We must operate!" clearly seperating the "hmmmm" and the "yes" While in this toon, it sounds more like one word. cash money tc 00:16, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
