:::::::::::::Thanks, User:That'sBupkis. Those are great. I guess I should've went on MS Paint and made a little somethin' somethin', but I got caught up with the Holidays. I've still got three more relatives to visit (I wish they didn't live so far away...it's a two hour drive), so I might not be able to do anything right yet. I'll try and get started on it around Tuesday. I won't be able to do anything on Wednesday or Thursday and I won't be able to get much done tomorrow, so I'll try and make something on Tuesday and I'll upload it when I'm done. Anyways, we could use those pictures on the Main Page or something. We only have until Friday, though. So if we're gonna do that, we betta' get crack-a-lackin'. 19:23, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Templating the weeklies?

While I've been working on the table heads, as well as the whitespace, on the archive pages for the Sketchbook and Weekly Fanstuff, I've thought about turning these pages into a bunch of templates! I was thinking we could make a template for the:

 • Top of each archive page, so that they wouldn't need to be updated one by one (if we ever need to).
 • Table heads, so that they wouldn't need to be updated one by one.
 • Items in the table, so that there's less to type compared to our conventional method.

What do you think? Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 17:54, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Coach Z pukes in dude's toupee

During my wandering through the internet, I went to my YouTube page, and saw that "sportsinterviewa," who uploaded the secret Strong Bad Gameways video, had uploaded a video, titled "Coach Z pukes in dude's toupee." As I got ready to watch it, it told me the video was removed, and now, there is no evidence of it ever existing, except for me as a witness. I was wondering if anyone else had seen it, and if it should be added to the updates page. I'll post a picture in a few minutes. (rct2guy)

it's back up --Neumannz 01:19, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Oh, ok then. Well, don't forget to add it to the front page. Though, I guess it's just a sneek preview of tomorrow's sbemail. But, be sure to make a note of it somewhere! :P (rct2guy 01:29, 6 October 2009 (UTC))
I saw it too...The scene is kinda like in senior prom, and its a 19 second video showing the Coach eating some food, then puking into Senor cardgage's combover, which appears to be a toupee. Coach Z puts it on at the end. I don't have audio, however. It has the appearance of being filmed on a TV with a video camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z-C8NU3SVM&feature=channel_page -24.218.122.7 01:29, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, it looks like the article is currently being worked on, so I guess this really doesn't mean anything anymore. :P rct2guy 01:37, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Looking at the video comments, it appears that the new sbemail is out, named videography. Apparently, the video is a link from an easter egg; clicking on the phrase "internet gold" brings you here. -24.218.122.7 01:40, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Change the navs?

I just had an idea that maybe we can change the navigational systems on each page to display navd.png to the right of the navs with toons that have a YouTube video. What do you guys think? MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 21:26, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Heck no at all. I don't have favicons under normal circumstances, and I sure don't want forced ones. They're silly. --DorianGray 21:38, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
The icon would only show up in the navbar if they showed up next to links for you normally... in your inferior obsolete browser, DG, it'd just say "watch" without an icon. The question here is whether we want a watch link that goes to a YouTube video in the navbar. Personally, I could get behind it for things like Sample of Style and Sample of Style Too, but I'm not really sure either way for videos where there's already a link to the H*R site... having two links to the same thing on different sites in the navbar is probably overkill... --phlip TC 21:55, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Where the YouTube video is the only link available, it would be appropriate. Otherwise, we should just stick with the link to H*R.com. The YouTube link as well as the direct link to the SWF file are easy enough to find in the External Links section. — It's dot com 22:33, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Animated PNGs?

Well, since my test worked, would it be wise to use Animated PNGs in the future? They may be big in size, but they retain the 32-bit color scheme and partial color transparency as some of you may saw with my RyukiAnim.png file. For those of you who are wary of this, you can check out this image and see if your browser supports APNGs; if the circle is animated, then your browser supports APNGs (and yes, links, a terminal browser, even supports APNGs.) ColdReactive 13:36, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

I don't think any animation-type-image-formats other than GIF will be used here for a long time. APNG or MNG isn't fully supported, not to mention these are two different "rivaling" formats (possible format war?). Besides, we don't use animated images like crazy 'round her so much that this would be a necessary discussion. By the way, what do you use to create APNGs? Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 20:42, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
MNG has been around for 11 years, and is too complicated for everyday/average person use. APNG was made to simplify that. Please start a forum topic for future discussion though, as this can get long. I used flash to make the animation first, then export it as a PNG Sequence, then use APNG Anime Maker. ColdReactive 21:10, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Forum topic for what? — It's dot com 21:21, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
This discussion. I don't think that's needed; this wiki's had some pretty long discussions in the past. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 21:30, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
And? Sometimes we have long discussions. This isn't a question for the forum. — It's dot com 00:41, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Back on track, what do other people think? (This includes you mister of com.) ColdReactive 14:34, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I think this decision shouldn't be made right now. As I said, APNG/MNG isn't as much of a universally supported format as GIF. I say we wait until one of these formats begin to see better support in operating systems/web browsers. Until then, I see no problem with using GIFs, despite their limitations. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 22:09, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
For the time being, it's a solid no. Based on our Web stats, at least a third of our users (measured by hits) still use a browser in which APNGs are not supported. Our animation needs are so limited and infrequent that GIFs are still just fine. — It's dot com 03:34, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

SVGs...again!

I'd like to bring up this discussion again. In reply to Phlip, getting something from Flash to SVG may not be as hard as you'd think. From what I've heard about the Mac-only Flash decompiler Gordon, any symbol can be exported to PDF. From there, that PDF can be put into Inkscape, which would create an exact copy of said symbol. For an entire scene, I suppose this could work as well, except making sure the viewport (right term?) matches the original could be a hassle. So, it can be done just for US$60 and a Mac! Now, if I would just buy the thing (Gordon)... Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 21:47, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Subtitles being stubborn

I've tried everything, and I can't seem to get these subtitles to display for anything. It's mainly the bottom section, because everything was working fine up to that point. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 04:07, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

There is a debug feature built right in. In the Greasemonkey script, choose Test subtitles script from the submenu, and then enter the code you have so far. It'll tell you where the problem is. — It's dot com 19:45, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Homestar Runner Quiz

The Homestar Runner quiz has been shut down... This is going to cause some serious problems for userpages with links to images from this quiz. Think it should be noted somewhere? MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 05:37, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

No. That site is not affiliated with us, and we don't encourage image hotlinking. If an external image is broken on a user page, it's really not a concern for the whole wiki. — It's dot com 19:50, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

quick question

Hey guys, just wondering, did Homestar Runner wiki's membership increase since the time the Brothers chaps, advertised this wiki on the actual site?

Cheers Nikolce Kocovski 01:18, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

It always increases. Did it increase more than usual? Hard to say. We've had a minor spam issue the last month or two - starting a little before TBC "advertised" us - so not all of the users from the last few months are legit. Plus, a number of users made user names but haven't made any contributions through them yet. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Halloween theme

Why are you still using the Halloween theme for the website? Halloween is over! O-V-U-R OVER! 64.12.117.66 13:38, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

We always leave them up for a few days after Halloween each year. I had thought we left them up until the fan costumes commentary came out, but I guess not. — It's dot com 17:46, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

That's something we've occasionally wondered about ourselves. --DorianGray 06:49, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Why do we keep vandalism in page history? Why don't we ever remove it entirely? Jc iindyysgvxc 07:33, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Some vandalism is removed entirely. But given that only certain users even have the ability to remove it? It's usually not worth the hassle. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 07:50, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Pumpkin Show

Hey, um, I'm new to this, but, uh, isn't there a new toon already named "Pumpkin Show"? I don't think anybody put it on the main page or even started an article on it. Okay bye. CrabAttack1999 21:33, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind that. Also, thanks Omnisweater. 'Kay bye. CrabAttack1999 21:55, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Wiki user mentions

I just wanted to pop on and mention my dislike of mentions within articles of the contributions used by TBC and attributing them to users who sent them in. First, if it was not a wiki user it would not be notable. Therefore it should not be notable if it is. Second, they are commenting on fan items but we are not documenting the fans, we are documenting TBC.

Finally, if you want your 15 minutes of fame, sending a pic in to TBC to be immortalized on this wiki, that's not really playing by the rules. Going out on a limb here, but how many contributors sent in a pic hoping that TBC would feature it and they could be in an article?

I just don't like it. My peace. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:25, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

I've never sent anything in, but if I did, I'd kind of hope that TBC would feature it and I could be in an article. I know we love to take ourselves super seriously, but when it comes down to it we're a fan-run knowledge base about an Internet cartoon. I really don't have a problem acknowledging those fans (with sufficient evidence) when relevant. As a wiki user, it is interesting to me when other wiki users have a direct influence on the course of the body of work. As that example shows, the horse left the barn at least five years ago, and there's really no point in shutting the door now. — It's dot com 02:36, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Happy 10th Berfday, H*R!

Since we've got a good two months for this i'm gonna ask: Are we having a H*R 10th Anniversary celebration? Like, January 1,2010. That'd be the 10th anniversary. My friend said on November 1,2009 there wasn't any kind of celebration...or even a message (y'know, for Matt's birthday). So, I just wanted to ask. CrabAttack1999 00:12, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, techincally... --Color Printer 03:48, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
It is, however, the 10th anniversary of homestarrunner.com. As for celebrations, though, I don't really think there's much in the works. Really, what would we do? We're basically a Homestar Runner encyclopedia, not a place for socialization. There's been talk about having a Featured Article themed for that day, but other than that, there's not a whole lot I can think of that we would do that fits our nature as a website. Heimstern Läufer 03:52, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
"Not a place for socialization."... Errr... Are we not? We sent birthday cards to both Chaps, we have thriving forums and some users met each other in real life. That aside, why shouldn't we do something for the 10th anniversary? TBC recently strengthened the bond between the two sites in the recent donation drive, and I think we should do something spacial. At least send a card, or something... I know for sure that they themselves are planning a big toon for the occasion (I read in a recent interview), so why shouldn't we? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:32, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
When I referred to socialization, I meant something like an on-wiki celebration, which I assumed was what was being referred to in the above post. Something like a card for TBC? Yeah, that could be reasonable. Heimstern Läufer 05:41, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I won't mind a on-wiki celebration. Maybe we could open our doors for a weekend and let anybody edit. Oh... We already do that. Well, we can invite everyone to sign up for free... Hmm. That too. How about we let everyone the chance to view the secret archives of every article and see for themselves how the wiki looked like... Err. I think we already do. Ok. I'm out of ideas. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:57, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

dat would be nice. Matt & Mike deserve a LITTLE celebration, so does the site...... i concur with the birthday cards. HAPPY FREAKIN' BIRTHDAY! and we could show Strong Bad screaming! just like the Mothers Day cartoon. -Tothelimit66

How about we all do what we can. Just a little something from each user that celebrates TBC and the glorious thing they've created for all the world to enjoy. Maybe someone could make a little flash cartoon or a .GIF, something that goes by in a few seconds saying something like "10 Years". Something along the lines of that. We don't have to really worry about it now, anyway, on account of we've still got...calculating...32 days and 6 hours before new years day anyways. That should be enough time to make at least something to show our gratitude for the website. I mean, what if we didn't make something and TBC visited and saw there wasn't any kind of thanks or 10 years anywhere? Do you want TBC to think we don't really even care? And, unless your an evil, evil person, you most likely don't want TBC to think we don't really even care. So, we should do something. We don't have to immediately do anything right now, but we should just brainstorm out some ideas. CrabAttack1999 23:00, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I got a little excited so I sloppily threw together a short Flash animation/presentation in around fifteen minutes. It's a rough draft, so keep that in mind when you notice the "rough edges", such as the lack of fading for the H*R logo and the lack of fading for the Compé. I was thinking that around the 15-second mark, when the images fade away, that there could be a few fading messages or quotes or thank-yous or yays or usernames... I dunno. Here's the rough draft. Suggestions, please? Mean remarks are okay, too. — fuchsiania 01:13, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
That's actually pretty good. Could probably add the Everybody Everybody music or something.
Isnt the anniversery the sixth? Though, that doesn't give us a lot of time, but still. StrongAwesome 22:21, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
That's extra-terri-cular-iffic! No, seriously, that was very grood. Beats my animation, I can't animate anything better than windows movie maker and microsoft paint (which, of course, wouldn't be actual animation, more like a slideshow of pictures). More to the point, it's something that could be of use to stuff we could do. And, as the wiki itself (and Wikipedia, I checked just to make sure) states that the launch date was January 1, 2000. So, it's a sorta Tenthennial Extravaganza. Or, as Crackotage would say, "A Tenthennial Extravaganza. Guest-starring Tony Danza... and (for no reason, whatsoever) some guy from Bonanza." I just know they're (probably) gonna have some toon to celebrate. CrabAttack1999 22:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Heh, heh, thanks for the compliments!... but... suggestions, please? — fuchsiania 04:09, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm. Suggestions, suggestions...maybe some background music. Everybody Everybody, like someone said above. Or, you could do the music from Old Intro and Old Intro 2. Or, maybe a quick comment from Strong Bad. He could say something like "Wow we're old." Well, that's just something he could say. You could probably think of something better for him to say, that was just an example. He could say something smart-alickey and clever. Something he would say. CrabAttack1999 18:38, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
May I suggest something? I think there should be some dramatic music in there. Back on Topic: There's probably the possibility that TBC will check the wiki on New Years, unless they forget (but how could they forget?). So we certainly need to do something. So, a card is a good idea. Stavey the Stupid Hippie 20:55, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, whatever we're doing we need to decide on it NOW. There's only 11 days left for this. So, we really should decide soon. I for one vote we do a card. And maybe a little banner at the top, too. But, seriously we should decide sometime this week. Not a lot of time left. C-Son-L Sweaters 22:02, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Maybe make a flash intro to the wiki? I don't know. We should have a page for ideas other then the main page discussion. TheThin 22:04, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
We could also try this. Using Powerpoint, Selteco Flash and Trillix Decompiler, I managed to make these. Perhaps we could use them on the Main Page. That'sBupkis! 00:33, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

This is red-iculous. If you have an image that you're suggesting we use on the wiki, then just upload it here so we can see it. — It's dot com 14:35, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Here are the pictures. Sorry about that whole MediaFire thing. I won't do that again. That'sBupkis! 15:10, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Oh, hey, I like that a lot. We could do the logo in an early-Homestar version too. — It's dot com 17:48, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Good idea! I'll get to work on that, and upload it when I'm done. That'sBupkis! 19:28, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, here it is. That'sBupkis! 20:09, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Hmm...What program did you use to make this?--Record307 Talk/Contribs 20:13, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
I used Selteco Flash to make the logo. That'sBupkis! 20:18, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Fotoshop, I like the Flash! I could give you a better rip of the music, if you want. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 21:35, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay, SB (Soiled Bargains), I want! ... it... the rip... of the music, please! Just email it to mike@htwins.net, please! — fuchsiania 23:18, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, User:That'sBupkis. Decemberween Theme

So, when are we putting up the decemberween theme for the wiki?--Record307 Talk/Contribs 03:32, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Looking at the history, we usually don't switch the theme for another week, week and a half. We could switch earlier though, if people wanted. — It's dot com 02:37, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, Decemberween is in two weeks. So, we should probably put the theme up sometime next week. CrabAttack1999 22:19, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
What's the name of the File for the Decemberween Logo? C-Son-L Sweaters 21:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
wiki-dween.gif. Sorry if we're not supposed to link to this. That'sBupkis! 22:21, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't see why not, since it's publicly available from the Common.css. JCM 22:32, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks guys. C-Son-L Sweaters 23:06, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
After all, it is a website component that you can't right-click and save. That'sBupkis! 15:51, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Milestones

What are the milestone articles? Jc iindyysgvxc 05:03, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

I think it's very hard to find out, or maybe even Impossible. When we reached the 2000th article, the admins checked and found out there was a problem with the counting system, and recounted. Then we suddenly had a little bit more then 2000, so we missed that mark. Probably. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:24, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Plus we're all the time adding and deleting articles, so the number is always changing, in various places. We could have something at number 15, and then delete 2, 3, 7, and 18 the next day, affecting the placement of everything else. --DorianGray 06:13, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Password

Is there any way I can make a temporary password my permanent password? I forgot my original password. Also, instead of giving a temporary password to users with the "Email New Password" button, you should give them a permanent password, like on Bulbapedia. Image = File

Should all the "image:" images (example:]]) be changed to "file:" images? (example:) or does it not matter? TheThin 17:22, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

It really doesn't matter as it's all backwards compatible with the namespace alias, and doing so would just add needless revisions... there's no harm in lumping that change with another, major revision you make to a page, but not much is gained even from that. — Defender1031*Talk 19:00, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
