I've noticed that most tables on this wiki don't use the built-in "[[Meta:Help:Table#Style_classes|wikitable]]" class. Why is this? Changing all of the tables to <code><nowiki>class="wikitable"</nowiki></code> saves a lot more time and space than <code><nowiki>border=1 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=2 style="border-collapse:collapse"</nowiki></code>. I know it doesn't matter, but I also prefer the light shade of gray on the cell borders, which the wikitable class uses, than the darker shade of gray that we currently use. --[[Special:Contributions/76.224.216.122|76.224.216.122]] 19:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

What do you have to say about running an archive of our deleted pages? Some sound interesting and I want to see them. I won't become a sysop anytime soon, so... --FangoriouslyFotoshopStar.png 16:44, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

All of the pages that were previously deleted obviously don't need to be kept, hence wwhy they were deleted by the overlords and gods of the wiki. It would be too much trouble to bring them all back anyway, and a troll might grab the code and restore the page. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 17:33, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

50 best sbemails

someone mark this post as patrolled; visit the store if you have to. The post might need a clean up, but it's true. OpenSourceGreg 11:12, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

  • This is true. Someone patrol it; everyone needs to know this!

Can somebody who own the dvd please complete the article ASAP? Omnisweater 17:24, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Image:Egg.jpg

Is it a good idea to make this image transparent so it doesn't look awful on black surfaces? I looked at the thing's user page, and that white box on black is really annoying. I have made a PNG of this, but I don't think it looks that great either. ColdReactive

Signature Size

is my signature size fine? Because the coffee cup only extends a few pixels outside the box -_-

http://hrwiki.org/index.php/User_talk:Iyeru/sig#testing ColdReactive

It's no worse than Phlip's, so I think it is fine. Homestar-Winner (talk) 00:34, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Looks fine to me, too, but I'm the new guy, so don't listen to me :-P LobStoR 00:46, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
edit: you also might be able to crop my screenshot a little bit further, to squeeze your sig down maybe another pixel or so. LobStoR 00:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
I made it 18 pixels this time, it should fit better now. ColdReactive
You can leave it 20 pix if you want. There's a slight inconsistency in how the box shows up, but 20pix is the guideline that the wiki's set, and is fine. -128.103.10.135 14:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Adopt-A-File?

I noticed there's a HEAVY LOURDE of files on the unusedfiles page. When do these files get deleted, and if they don't, shouldn't we start an Adopt-A-File campaign of some sorts? ColdReactive

No, that's not necessary. — It's dot com 21:48, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
So I'm guessing they never get deleted? ColdReactive
Not in most cases, no. — It's dot com 22:10, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Linking Internal Images to Internal Pages...

How do we do this? [[File:Example.jpg|link=http://wikipedia.org]] doesn't work according to MediaWiki forums because we do not have MediaWiki 1.14+. And I can't use imagemap tag on such a small image as my sig image (as it will just be a circle with an i in it) ColdReactive

Like this: <span class="plainlinks">[http://targetlink.com http://www.hrwiki.org/path/to/Example.jpg]</span>It's dot com 01:52, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
The picture I'm going to link to though is over 500 pixels -_- I doon't think that's small enough to fit in my signature. Plus, you're still linking externallyish using that. ColdReactive
Something like 18px-CupAJoe.png ? (Note: what I thought I was doing didn't actually work... but the end result did anyway... I'm not sure if the URL of the 18px version is permanent or a cache thing though, you might want/need to upload a version that is explicitly the size you want). —98.222.134.36 04:16, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
The 18px thumbnail thing is semi-permanent... it won't disappear on its own, but if you upload a new image over that one, then it'll disappear, and you'll have to look at a page with [[Image:CupAJoe.png|18px]] (either hard-refresh a page that already has it, or add it to a page and show preview, that sort of thing) to get it to re-generate the thumbnail. Best bet is to put that in a <noinclude> section in the sig template itself, just in case. --phlip TC 08:22, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I did that. Now to wait for someone to vandalize the picture and upload a huge or really, really small one-pixel version of the image. :D ColdReactive
It's like no one knows of the {{pl}} template anymore... MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 14:41, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
How do you even USE that template in conjunction with a file? Seems pointless to bring it up here when there's no input for a file. ColdReactive
Like this: {{pl|l=http://www.google.com http://hrwiki.org/images/thumb/e/ea/CupAJoe.png/18px-CupAJoe.png}} makes this :18px-CupAJoe.png. And please sign your talk posts with 4 tildes: ~~~~ MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 14:52, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure thing Mike, err, Micheal. ColdReactive 14:59, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Link to Job Queue

The link to the information on Job Queues in Special:Statistics is broken (sort of). It should instead link to Job queue on MediaWiki.org. Homestar-Winner (talk) 18:17, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

New article idea

I've an idea for a new article: fanscripts, people could post scripts that they invented about homestar runner's adventures, please can you consider my idea- posted 23 Thursday 2009 DJ Dumpy Dump

The wiki, as far as I know, doesn't put articles on fanstuff. There are other places you can post things, like the H*R fanstuff wiki (after the purge is over) and the fanstuff forum.--Mariofan1000 16:17, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

What happened to Fanstuff? I'm probably not going to get a real answer, but can someone point me in direction of finding one?

new videlectrix update,

im not sure if any of you saw this but theres a new update on the videlectrix site http://www.videlectrix.com/ -WHY ARE YAH MOUSIN MEH IMAGES?!?!?1/?!?GirrByTeWHY ARE YAH MOUSIN MEH IMAGES?!?!?1/?!?

So just post it. There's a template for recent changes that you edit to show the changes, you know. If not, well now you know!

Background Image

I'd like to resurrect a topic that I brought up almost a year ago. Here's a link to the tileable image that I suggest we use as our new background image. Plans were to make the change with update 1.13, which was skipped.. so, what's the plan now? OptimisticFool 13:07, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I still haven't forgotten about that. — It's dot com 15:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
OptimisticFool, would it be too hard to make a different image in the style of the current design of the field? Homestar-Winner (talk) 00:25, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe, maybe not. The sky might present a challenge. Here's a quickly-thrown-together new-style field with an all-white sky, first the tile, and then the tiled result. I'm kind of partial to the older field, but I'm willing to fight with the sky behind the new field if it's the popular vote. OptimisticFool 13:31, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Preferences

I went into my preferences and saw in the "Old password" box a word that was twice the size of the box (with the black dots). Is this normal, or was my account hacked? Because I'm automatically logged in here and haven't entered my password since last week. And my password isn't that long. Yes, I'm aware that this question doesn't belong here, so where do I post this? Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 21:40, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki talk:FAQ. It's not normal (the field for the old password isn't pre-filled when the page loads), but I don't think your account was hacked. Maybe a key was stuck on your keyboard and you selected the field. — It's dot com 22:27, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
You're probably right. It's fine now, and I just logged in on a different computer. Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 01:04, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Case (in)sensitive links - plugin?

I am under the impression that this wiki uses a plugin to achieve case insensitivity on the links (see HRWiki:Autopipe/Autoredirect)... I don't immediately see anything under Special:Version that sticks out to me as being it. I was wondering if anyone knows how that was accomplished on here? Thanks. LobStoR 16:03, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

It's not a plugin so much as a direct hack to the system core. With each new branch release of MediaWiki, I'm able to move more and more of it to hooks, but even in the latest release it still requires substantial edits to LinkHolderArray.php (formerly Parser.php) as well as minor edits to a couple of other files. (The edits are substantial enough that I'm still not comfortable releasing it into the wild, if you wonder.) — It's dot com 16:32, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Rating system

I have an idea. We could allow people to rate the page from 1 star to 5 stars. Let me know if anyone think this is a good idea.

I gotta' side with a "not really". As this is a wiki, people can edit the page if they don't think it's up to snuff. Rating a page would just act like a note that says, "I'm to lazy to edit this part, so I'm gonna' leave it up to someone with more time on their hands". Plus, it could be an easy place for trolls to strike, which could probably mean the ratings would be inadequate with what they should be. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:26, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
As with Devon, this is a wiki. Pages change so quickly the quality will waver every edit. Plus this will only open up more trolling, what with all the "1 starring" and "bad voting" and such. Good idea. --Jellote 03:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I also agree, trolling would be the number one reason for it not to be included (as well as to be included actually) so I could label you as a troll. ColdReactive 18:42, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Look, I was just trying to let people know what is a page that they should check out or not ColdReactive. Kevo411
ColdReactive, no, you could not. There's nothing trollish about this good-faith request. Still, I have to agree with Devon that this isn't really a good idea. If an article's bad, people should take the time to leave a note on the talk page (or better yet, fix it themselves), not just leave a quick rating. Heimstern Läufer 08:09, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Server adjustments

The fanstuff wiki will return 404'd when I try to view it. --FangoriouslyFotoshopStar.png 01:19, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

The wiki and its sister sites may be unavailable for various periods of time as we make server adjustments throughout the evening. Everything is fine; nothing is ruined. — It's dot com 01:36, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Sorry you had to edit the heading of my topic. I am Fangoriously, just not logged in. And I changed the heading back! --98.162.148.46 02:15, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Changed back. The topic is not specifically fanstuff-related, but rather has to do with the entire server, making the current heading more appropriate. Note that section headers are not in any way owned or controlled by the original poster. Heimstern Läufer 03:06, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Marking duplicate images

With the upgrade to MW1.15, I'm really liking the more robust search and file page layout (being able to see thumbnails is good!). However, I seem to remember not long after the Wiki was up and running again, I saw a note on a page saying it was a duplicate image. Has the way of marking duplicate images changed? For example, we have Scrawn job.jpg and Scrawnjob.png as duplicates of scrawnjob.png. (Note the files in question are in different resolutions and formats.) Does the system automagically note when two files are the same, or is there a way other than using the delete template? wbwolf (t | ed) 23:16, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

The system can tell when images are identical, down to the last pixel. It can't tell automatically otherwise. — It's dot com 23:24, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

SignBot Like on Wikipedia?

It's getting annoying to have to remember the unsigned template. Can't we create a bot that auto signs unsigned posts, like Wikipedia does? ColdReactive 04:12, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

That seems like a good idea in theory. But that bot has one of the most perverted userboxes on its userpage that I've ever seen... >_> MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 04:28, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Perverted, maybe, but it's true. Programming isn't frequently known to wear clothes while editing. Also, I totally agree. The problem is programming; SineBot itself isn't opensource. Someone would have to code it on out.
EDIT: I forgot to sign. XD --Onamuji (b/w T. C.  ) 04:45, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Perverted? This is the HRWiki, not a Southern elementary school. —Zelinda 20:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

warnings are afoot still. The last warning (about headers) is because you're using header() function even though the head HTML tag was already passed. ColdReactive 12:54, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
seems you fixed them. ColdReactive 14:58, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Don't auto-parse image url as image

Please don't, it's annoying. ColdReactive 12:55, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

That's built into the MediaWiki software. If you want to link to a File: or Category:, just append it with a colon. ([[:File:somepicture.png]]) For off-site images, it seems to be working fine. wbwolf (t | ed) 15:29, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, will test nowiki with offsite images. ColdReactive 16:05, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikitable class not used?

I've noticed that most tables on this wiki don't use the built-in "wikitable" class. Why is this? Changing all of the tables to class="wikitable" saves a lot more time and space than border=1 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=2 style="border-collapse:collapse". I know it doesn't matter, but I also prefer the light shade of gray on the cell borders, which the wikitable class uses, than the darker shade of gray that we currently use. --76.224.216.122 19:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
