link to the fanstuff forum?

Hey the fanstuff wiki is down ... so now there's really no way for people to find the fanstuff forum which is here. Could somebody put a link up somewhere please? --NERD42 email talk h²g² pedia uncyc 20:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Halloween theme

October is over. Mtp1997

The Halloween toon only came out a about a day and a half ago, and we still (hopefully) have a costume commentary toon on the way. Last year we didn't go back to normal styles until several days into November. — It's dot com 19:42, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I understand. Happy Halloween, and good luck on the fanstuff! Mtp1997

Editing talk posts

I just wanted to know, is it legal on the wiki to proofread talk pages? Chipwich 01:45, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
It's typically discouraged to edit other people's comments. Any specific reason? --DorianGray 05:50, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me but, Dangeresque Puppet Stuff just came out, so yeah...might wanna chek dat out.

November 13th podcast

Someone want to update the mainpage to reflect the release of the podcast? I already updated the podcast page itself, but I don't have permission to modify the front page, apparently. --Flytape8490 20:51, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Just updated the more updates page. The front-page still needs it though. --Flytape8490 20:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
You edit the news box by selecting "view source", then scroll down, then click "Template:whatsnew". Edit the template the way you would any page. Don't forget to add the article of the email to the Podstar Runner category, and add a download link and the Podcast summary to the article as well. BBG 20:58, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Just added the download link and category to the magic trick page. Where do I stick the summary in the article?--Flytape8490 21:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
There's also a pixelghost sale. Do we track sales? I don't remember.--Flytape8490 21:15, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Stick the summary in the Trivia section. Sales are worth noting in the whatsnew box. BBG 22:26, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Sbemail DVD 6

Don't forget 'bout the new Sbemail dvd. I mean, it's up there...on the site. Or do you all just know about that already? Or am I just wasting yur thyme? --NOT DENNIS 20:14, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

WHAAAAAAAAT?

On the updates page, it says (correctly) that Twenty THANXty Six is a holiday toon. On the actual Main Page, however, it says that its a short. Edit, anyone? Strongkinghomsarsmith 01:52, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Both are correct. The toon is both a holiday toon, as it has to do with Thanksgiving, and it is also a short, as it is only 2 minutes and 14 seconds long. Though the toon is listed under the Holiday Toons category, saying the toon is either one makes sense, right? Homestar-Winner (talk) 02:09, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
However, H*W, what about the site itself? Tis not listed under shorts. Though it is older than crap, KOT DVD is shorter than it, and yet it is still categorized as a big toon. Strongkinghomsarsmith 02:16, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
The only reason this thing is under "short" is because the main page message button says that it's a "new short!" So, really, only one little speck in the H*R universe is classifying it as a short. I say we put it under as a Holiday Toon. --70.253.165.204 02:21, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
I changed it so it said on the Main Page that it was both a holiday toon and a short. Is that better? Homestar-Winner (talk) 02:45, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Brilliant! :P --70.253.165.204 03:10, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

No More Emails

So I was listening to the commentary on sbemail 200 and TBC (specifically Matt) said that no more sbemails will be made. He said it in sort of a joking manner but I don't know, they haven't made one in over 2 months. I guess we'll see. inunaota4a

I guess we will. This marks the tenth email that people have seriously considered might be the last (after vacation, 50 emails, comic, flashback, virus, rock opera, alternate universe, retirement, and the paper). — It's dot com 01:55, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Well "people have seriously considered" is a pretty vague statement as it depends on who those people are. The wider wiki community has never seriously considered this so far - at least not to my knowledge. And I'm sure we won't either this time. Loafing 02:06, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps you should have a look at our forum. There have been many occasions where people have said Strong Bad Emails were probably over, and meant it. — It's dot com 02:30, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Admittedly, I am a bit ignorant when it comes to the forum. Are there actually enough active wiki editors active in the forum to call these threads expressions of the "wider wiki community"? There is only one name I recognise in that first thread, for example, and she didn't think it's the end. But yeah, there seem to be groups of people who expect/expected sbemails to end, I give you that :-) Loafing 12:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Nevertheless, we do not assume that there will be no more Strong Bad Emails until TBC speak out in an interview and say, "Yeah, we've decided to move on to do other projects on the site." They have just released the first of (hopefully) many Dangeresque Roomisodes. – The Chort 19:57, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
An excerpt from the commentary for Where My Hat Is At?,

MIKE: De-butt. And the umpire, too. Who, uh...

{Matt laughs}

MATT: Who we forgot to make that Easter egg! We were going to put the Umpire in an Easter egg in the last email we made.

MIKE: You'll never hear from him again now! That was his one chance!

-Lifty Fernandez

That commentary was done a while ago, before email 200 came out. And by "the last email" they meant the most recent one at the time. Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Right, "last email we made" does not mean "last email we're gonna make". — Defender1031*Talk 21:46, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Shrinking Text

Is there any way I can make some text in my User Page smaller? Some words in one of the sections drift offscreen. BBG 04:20, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Try (insert text here) around the text you want smaller. Like this! Acam30 16:23, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

homestar's speech impediments...

I think we should transcribe his speech impediments. The imitated voice shows the impediments, yet what the real stupid no-arms says looks like he's speaking normally. So we're going ta wanna replace "Homestar" with "Homestaw". Replace the "er" sounds with "ow". I think this MUST happen... I hope... Other than that this "UK English" thing is getting freakin' out of style! Down with UK English, up with transcribing Homestar's speech impediments at his speaking parts! I hope I touched you all. --The 386 My talk 00:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

That would take much too long, doncha think? Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:11, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it won't, IF WE WORK TOGETHER! Next. --The 386 My talk 01:16, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Just curious... where is it that you mean? Subtitles? Transcripts? A page enumerating his impediments? Confused, Dutchscout 01:47, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
{reply to The 386 after edit conflict} I think it's unnecessary (when reading Homestar's lines, you can pretty much be sure it's with his impediment) and could furthermore be confusing. And as for UK English, no, I would say what is getting out of style is your harping on this issue. It's not a big deal. We have people here who are used to UK spellings, and of course it's normal for them to write them. Just change them to US spellings; quit griping about it, which does no good. Heimstern Läufer 01:49, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm against transcribing any accent except:
 1. Coach Z's since his accent is not consistent and is frequently extremely divorced from the real pronunciation.
 2. Any time the accent is related to a joke (another reason I think Coach Z's accent should remain, as his frequently is.)
 3. Any time one character is mocking another character's accent (Strong Bad does this to Homestar a lot; ex. "Evewybody knows I'm a painted twash can.")
Otherwise, it just cuts down on readability. And indeed, the SBCG4AP subtitles don't transcribe Homestar's accent. Sure, they're full of mistakes, but they're official! Why should we? --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 01:52, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't think that it would be a good idea to transcribe his speech impediment for the following reasons: a) we can always assume that he talks with a speech impediment unless noted otherwise and b) it will make the transcripts much more readable. Regarding your comment on UK English, The 386, there is really no need for your misguided passion, here. US English is already the standard for articles on this wiki, so your demand is moot. Loafing 01:55, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I agree that it shouldn't be transcribed, for all the reasons already said. I had assumed that it was a given that this was the practice and obvious as to why. — Defender1031*Talk 01:57, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Crap. --The 386 My talk 01:59, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Another thing to keep in mind, BTW, is that if Coach Z was to write a word, he'd probably spell it his way (remember, he believes that "jorb is a four-letters word.") Homestar always writes out his Rs, despite his trouble pronouncing them. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 02:23, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Better now - 20X6 game loaded in <20sec, guess it's a 'slow news' day ;), but seriously, does this happen often? -Dutchscout 03:24, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Weeklies Promblem

Currently, the weeklies show the reanimating quote with strong bad's face, the chainsaw car that says "cheat on cell phone", action bubs with it saying "undead sheep & plutis." I cleared my cache and stuff, but it still shows like this. But apparently, others can see it fine. ColdReactive

I had the same problem when I was first aware of the updated weeklies. I would suspect some caching problems somewhere upstream, possibly due to the slow response time the site was experiencing earlier this week. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:54, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Fanstuff update?

I'm sure that you've heard this a billion times by now, but I think it needs to be said: what's the deal with the fanstuff? As of right now, it's taken 112 days, 20 hours, 28 minutes and 46 seconds more than was scheduled. There isn't a problem at the forums anymore preventing work from being done.
