The Magical Spit-Bubble

When Strong Sad Has A Spit-Bubble Stuck In His Throat, His Voice Goes Ultra-Deep. Yet, When Homestar Has A Spit-Bubble In His Throat, His Voice Goes Ultra-High, In Fact, Exactly Like Marzipans. Shouldn't both Their Voices Go One Way? -- Assassinator666 07:46, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't want to delve too deep into the physics of voice altering spit bubbles here (because I know squat about that), but I don't know why this should not be possible. It's, uhm, also funnier this way. Loafing 10:35, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
OBEY THE FUNNY! Also, save this Flash file to your computer, in case this goes the way of the Broken Compy Menu. —BazookaJoe 12:18, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I did an experiment about what spit bubbles in your throught make you sound like. They make yoyu sound kinda like Stitch. Or, If your yelling, Strong Mad.

It's a reference to the Princess Bride, where the guy in the Pit of Despair has a similar problem with his voice, no? --66.213.14.20 23:56, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

That gag was pulled in PB, and that's probably one of the more famous examples, but I'm not sure if it was the first or a reference or anything. Trelawney
As a fan of The Princess Bride, I doubt it's a reference. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:53, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Dolph's Phone Number

Also, The Phone Number For The Axe-Training Poster, I Found Out, Is The Same As Daniel Ortega From The N.I.P . I Have NO Idea Why I Looked This Up. -- Assassinator666 10:07, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

This fits in so neatly with his character that these need only be mentioned on his character page. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:02, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
No, it is not safe to assume that. Assumptions are rarely safe. Especially since the KOT said he did not eat it, and he called in about the guitar licks. Not to mention with all the voice impersonation going on, we can't even say it was the KOT at all. --JamesDean 05:12, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Just saw sbemail 159b. I'm an idiot.

Guitar fun fact

I liked this fact (although would suggest it be reworded by someone better than me):

  • "Furious Fingers" claims to have 17 guitars with 43 necks. With a ratio of roughly 2.5 necks per guitar, he must own several triple necked guitars and likely a few doubles as well.

The notable thing isnt so much the presence of the guitars, but the sheer number of multi-necked ones (if only 3 neck and one necked, then 13 would have to be triple, or 8 double and 9 triple), which strikes me (although i will admit that I am musically challenged at best) as a bit odd. Assuming no more than 3 necks per guitar (which I accept is wrong, but more seems to be rare from the Wikipedia article), over half have to be triple for this to work. DumbMuscle 19:52, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Multiple-necked guitars are not so unusual - especially back in the 80's, you saw them quite a bit. Is it unusual for someone who collects guitars to have a lot of them? I guess it comes down to this: it doesn't seem notable because it's obvious from context that many of the guitars have to have multiple necks. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:58, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, im no math genious, but hwen it comes to guitars, i know guitars. here is a real triple neck guitar for those doubting their existance. ---COLA 21:56, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay, this is why wikis should be a bit more down-to-earth. Here we are, talking about double and triple necked guitars, but we never gave the idea of the KoT PLAYING A GUITAR!?! Especially a 'lectric one. A, he's got no talent (sides eating), and B, he's not exactly cool. We seriously need to be more down-to-earth. Not kidding, guys. -Image:Bubs.gif Sluggy42(Talk|Cont.) 00:35, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, there was that Sketchbook image that showed the KoT as a member of ZZ Top... The Spainish Inquisition 01:59, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Two words: NO ARMS. seriously guys. fingers without arms... right. csours 02:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
It's possible he could have sixteen single-necks and one twenty-seven neck. :-P Gus 05:29, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
I think it's worth hanging a link to a page talking about (or better yet, showing) a triple-necked guitar. While a good portion of people have seen a double-necked guitar, I think a lot of people would be surprised to learn that monstrosities with 3 or more necks actually exist. Trey56 05:38, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

What have I done?

Dear god, what have I done? I email a completly random thing to SB, and then THIS happens. I feel sick. Then again, the lappy needed to go. I think it was having an affair with Marzipan's answering machine. Cessna Man! 21:40, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Man, Man, I'd give anything to have my email answered, and much more to have it be so important. Your email is part of Homestar Runner history! —BazookaJoe 22:27, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry, it's not your fault. It's TBC's. Besides, your email is one of the special ones. Why? It significantly affected the continuity! You should be proud of that! – The Chort 16:47, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Future Category

So far this toon is only linked from the main page, but that is expected to change once the Brothers Chaps finish this story arc. While it will probably end up as a "Short", would it also be acceptable to classify this as a "Not-Quite-Strong-Bad-Email"? --The Real Zajac 15:45, 25 Sept 2006 (PDT)

Well, it is categorized as such now. The categories are based on the TV Time menu on the site. As this is not in that (yet), it's premature to classify it as a Big Toon, Short or whatever. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:57, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Crocodile Neighba

Sorry, I didn't realize that had been added/removed before. But aside from that, I think it's a pretty clear reference to "Pearls Before Swine." The crocodile next-door neighbors regularly appear in the strip trying to trick Zebra. I don't think TBC would just pull a crocodile next door asking to borrow a cup of sugar out of thin air. 128.227.130.28 04:48, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

I thought of this ref too, but didn't add it for whatever reason. Lazy, perhaps. --DorianGray
I've read PBS daily until about a year ago, and I don't think there's a reference here. I mean, Homestar is not trying to trick SB. Sure, it sounds as if it could be a reference, but Homestar might just as well be weird as usual. Loafing 04:55, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
It didn't occur to me on its own, but it does make a certain amount of sense after hearing it. Perhaps someone with a user name a bit more sure could STUFF it. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 05:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it is a reference to PBS because the crocodile next door is always trying to eat the zebra, not make cookies.
Homestar, however, wants to make "puppy cookies". --DorianGray
Edit Conflict'd! Those crazy crocs also talk in a funny accent [1]. Ah, I shouldn't have stopped reading it. Loafing 05:19, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Also, the crocodiles try to trick Zebra into coming over to their house or letting them into his house, usually by asking him to do something that seems innocuous (like borrowing a cup of sugar). And since (until "Marzipan" turns out to be Homestar) the message is a parody of Strong Bad leaving ridiculous prank calls on Marzipan's answering machine, the reference seems to fit nicely. 128.227.130.28 05:27, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Call me crazy *waits* but I believe the point of a reference is to reference something in a funny way. Simply finding an occurrence in the real world that matches what someone said does not a reference make. You'll find a billion of those. The only joke in this occurs in what Homestar said, in that the word puppy-dough looks like the word puppy-dog. This is almost more of a reference to the Doo-ing/Doyng joke Homestar made before. Don't make me go out and find another case of someone living next door to a crocodile just so that this can be TTATOT like just happened with the Beatles vs Marilyn Manson. :) --JamesDean 05:36, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Am I the only one who thinks this might be a reference to Steve Erwin dying a few weeks ago? The Spainish Inquisition 21:18, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes. Loafing 21:35, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Strong Bad's Phone Number

Based on the tones I'm hearing at the start of the e-mail, it seems like Strong Bad's phone number is 415-6715. Is that something worthy of putting in the Fun Facts Somewhere? --Hyrulian 04:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Usually, this kind of ferreted out stuff would be a cool fun fact. I suggest that we don't add it for the sake of the poor person who owns this number. Well done, anyway! How did you find this out? Perfect hearing?  Loafing 05:09, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd agree on that point. Poor person getting phone calls for Strong Bad. Anyway yeah, I was just listening carefully to the sounds on the toon and comparing it to the sounds on my cell phone. (Funny thing is, I actually kinda had an approximation on what the number might have been just based on listening to the tones on the toon many times, I guess I'm such a geek...) Another way to find out would be to probably try sending the sounds of that e-mail to your pager or cell phone as a numeric page and see what number comes out, although the sound quality of the toon might not be good enough for that. --Hyrulian 18:04, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I actually saved the sound file and ran it through some sort of analyzer thing (http://dialabc.com/sound/detect/index.html) and you were close, it's 415-6745 instead of 415-6715, but still. I had the same idea to just listen on my cell phone.. But i decided to be more high tech ^_^ I think it would be interesting to list.. I looked up the number in Washingon, and it is listed under 3 area codes. Well, it exists for 3 area codes, all unlisted. 235 is an Arch Wireless cell phone, 360 is a Qwest landline (unlisted) and 425 is a verizon landline, also unlisted. I thought i'd be smart and figure it all out but when I got here it had already been done. But hey, maybe someone should try calling :P--- Image:Videlectrix man.sig.gif Collin - (T/C) 06:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Marzipan?

I think Marzipan should be included in the cast list, since it's obviously Marzipan's voice, even if it's a joke that it's really homestar just sounding like Marzipan. It's clearly Missy Palmer's voice. Dwedit 05:09, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

So what? Is it Marzipan? No. Therefore it would not be factual for us to include her. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:02, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree. The cast list is of characterrs, not voices. --The Real Zajac 01:28, 27 Sept 2006 (PDT)

Transcript's Voice Identification

The specific question at hand is whether a not-yet-recognizable voice should be identified in the transcript as who it is later revealed to be. My thought would be that the transcripts here should read as much as possible like a viewing of the toon (which is the larger question at hand, the alternative viewpoint being, I suppose, that they should reflect some sort of absolute truth), in which case homestar's first sentence or two should be attributed to Marzipan (or, a compromise I would prefer, to "Marzipan's voice"). Likewise, Strong Sad's first sentence would be attributed to "Deep Scary Voice" or something like that. [I don't know how to make a signature|sorry] 03:02, 26 September 2006 (EST)

We usually try, as you put it, to "reflect some sort of absolute truth", so the way it is is fine. To make a signature, just type a string of tilde characters: four if you want a time stamp with it (generally preferred, but by no means mandatory) or three if you don't. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 07:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
We at least recognize this in the subtitles, where the "distorted voice" and "Marzipan" are counted separately from the actual speakers. But that's more due to the nature of the subtitles, I suppose; it'd ruin the joke for those with subtitles on otherwise. As for the transcript, in most cases, it can be assumed that the reader of the transcript has previously watched the 'toon. At least, I think. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 07:25, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Since this toon came out when I didn't let myself use Flash on school days I read its transcript before I watched it.
Our transcript on the toon's page is not meant to equate the experience, nor can it even try to. It's a documentation, and as such it's fine as is. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:00, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
And guys, usually whoever is reading this wiki knows what the page is talking about. -Image:Bubs.gif Sluggy42(Talk|Cont.) 19:34, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Though it does suddenly occur to me that we did not give the proper credit for "Homestar" throughout Pumpkin Carve-nival... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:44, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Qermaq. Transcripts are never spoiler-free, and we should always use proper character names such as "Strong Sad: {in a deep, scary voice}. Loafing 01:31, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Reverse prank call?

At first, when you hear 'homestar's' message, it sounds like Marzipan is leaving a prank call on Strong Bad's answering machine, in a reversal of the usual role. Dwedit 14:48, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I was busting out laughing when I got to that part! --Hyrulian 18:06, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Homestar next door?

We know so little about the exact lay of the land in Free Country, USA. Does this toon prove that Homestar and the Brothers Strong are actual next-door neighbors?

I don't think that can be proved without actually seeing both houses next to each other. --DorianGray
Plus, he says it's the crocodile. Apart from this reflecting on Homestar's personality, It really means that a crocodile lives there. Not that there is... But I really think TBC should give us a map of FCUSA. -Image:Bubs.gif Sluggy42(Talk|Cont.) 19:32, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I think they're avoiding doing that, coz then they'd have to adhere to it. =3 --DorianGray

Remarks

"At the end of 'cliffhangers', The Paper read 'Tune in next time for the cliff hanging conclusion!!' This toon, the next one added to the site, doesn't resolve anything."

I assumed The Paper, within the context of a SBemail, meant that the conclusion would not be within the next Toon added to the site, but within the next email episode.

Or, that this is infact the conclusion. Conclusions don't always have to resolve things. Didn't you see Jurassic Park? --JamesDean 07:09, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I get the feeling that they'll acknowledge it at least once more, though. --DorianGray

Lappy Icon

I could find no trace of anyone mentioning this yet, but the icon on the poster is wrong in the cartoon. While TBC are certainly allowed to change things, the original lappy icon did not have the big lips and blonde hair. That icon was only seen in the dreamail cartoon, and it seemingly only existed in Strong Bad's imagination. True, the feminine version of Lappy is more memorable, but the real icon (seen in animal) definitely has no hair or movie-star lips. Shall I put a reference to this possible goof in the article? --Triumvir 17:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

The female Lappy was also seen in Sbemail 150?!?, and not in SB's imagination. It appears that, as often happens, SB's imagination has become a reality. Heimstern Läufer 17:32, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Maybe Strong Bad installed/changed something on the Lappy to change the startup icon into the female version... what I find interesting is that SB referred to the Lappy as the Paper's "brother" in its first appearance, yet ever since "dreamail" he's referred to it as a female ("they cut off her little toe!"). Er, not that it's actually possible for the thing to even have a gender in the first place :P - Image:TinySaturn2.GIF Saturn 23:01, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps SB's perception of gender changed? Perhaps the initial comment was in error? Any way you look at it, TTATOT. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:42, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
I think on IRC someone even once suggested that the computer itself could be male, while the software making it talk was female. A bit of a stretch, but meh, it's a theory. Heimstern Läufer 02:44, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Random trivia: when we see the back of the lappy we see a parallel port, a PS/2 port, a modem port, and a power connection... all of female connectors. :P --phlip TC 02:46, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Valid point, Heimstern. I had actually forgotten about the feminine appearance in Sbemail 150?!?, and your theory sounds plausible. Strong Bad's "imagined" quirks do have a tendency to become reality after a little while. My suggested addition is, therefore, retracted. --Triumvir 13:10, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

it is a ceiling tile

look at the lower right corner. there are holes, and there are odd shapes that are not holes. incedentally they are not pinholes, they are the holes that come on a ceiling tile. you can tell because if they were pinholes they would have a fibrous edge to them. also, it is white. if it was corkboard it would be wood colored. in ANY CASE, it would NOT have the distinct 'ceiling tile' oblongs on it, unless it was, in fact, a ceiling tile. good enough q? or shall i find a picture from the internet that completely matches the pattern? csours 00:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC) [2]

Change??

I think we should change the Fun Fact about Dolph Hauldhagen's class schedule. Is it trying to say that in "other days", Strong Bad said that his class was on Saturdays, but in this toon, Dolph himself says it's on Wednesdays? That's not what I thought it was saying...

Characters disguised as other characters

How should we refer to them? I wasn't allowed to remove the spoilers from this or add them to Pumpkin Carve-nival and it's VERY annoying that they don't match.

See Talk:Missing Lappy#Transcript's Voice Identification. --TotalSpaceshipGirl3 00:21, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
It's nice to see you didn't revert my second revision, but I don't feel I ever got a specific enough reason as to why you rejected the first one. What part of the post did you want me to read? Did you accept my second revision just because I messed with that post? Bad Bad Guy 01:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
I assume you're talking about this and this. I pointed you to the talk page to show you that there is a discussion about this going on. You should not make changes while people are unsure if they are good changes. Instead, you should have voiced your opinion there. And simply re-posting your changes without contributing to the discussion and waiting for the discussion coming to a conclusion is not the way to go. I also did not "accept" your changes; I simply did not notice you put them back again. That's not something I expected anybody to do before that discussion ended. Hope this answers your questions. Loafing 01:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
If you didn't notice, I added two posts to that talk page after you deleted my first revision. I point out that it doesn't match Pumpkin Carve-nival and that I am one of the apparantly nobodies who read the transcript before watching the toon. Bad Bad Guy 17:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, you did post on this page, but you did not get positive feedback, and you should therefore not have changed it. The majority of editors believes that the real character names should have been used. I'm sorry that reading the transcript killed the joke for you, but that is just the way our transcripts work: they contain each and every spoiler. In conclusion, you should never read the transcript before you saw the toon. Simple as that. Loafing 21:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, should we go over to Pumpkin Carve-nival and change "Homestar" to "Strong Bad" now, sir? I already tried that and was told "it ruined the joke too soon." Now the joke for this is ruined too soon again! >:(. Bad Bad Guy 19:44, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Here's the "proper" version of that page according to your logic, which was deleted to avoid spoling the joke, which for some reason is worse than spoiling the joke for this. Bad Bad Guy 20:38, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Dude, you need to properly wait until discussions are over before you make these changes. Loafing 20:38, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Interestingly, I independently made edits very similar to that, although I think my version is more accurate than the previous attempt. Sorry for going ahead with the changes, but I didn't notice that there were two threads on the same subject (which is why there should only be one thread on a given subject). Nevertheless, I think the non-spoiler version (if you can call it that) is superior and should stand. — It's dot com 20:45, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
