Should this be in Rejects? He has only ever been mentioned once! -- Asploder

Because no one outside TBC really understand this character, or know the story behind "Get Fushling", it would make it an inside joke between the brothers. - Dr Haggis - Talk 19:22, 28 Dec 2004 (MST)

BALEET

Should this article even be here? Kewpie was never seen again, so he doesn't need his own article.

Kewpie Dan's origins revealed?! Probably not.

Okay, listen to this: today, I learned that the French word for "Cupid" is cupidon. This is pronounced koo-pee dahn, with the "ah" in "dahn" pronounced like in "da," the Russian word for yes. This is a stretch, but when I heard it, it was the first thing I thought of. It'd be better if it was a Valentine's toon he's from, but y'know...-LordQuackingstick 21:35, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Delete Redux

Hm. Taking a look at this page, it doesn't really seem that useful. It's "long-standing", and while I *do* realize the trouble TBD'ing these kinds of articles tend to cause, in the end, it's basically a page dedicated to an obscure, mysterious character in a broken Easter egg with no actual role in the toon. Yeah, it was perfectly acceptable in the days of the old Wiki, but it *does* seem quite unnecessary by today's revised standards; I've seen more informative articles unanimously deleted. We know next to nothing about this "character", and just about all we *do* know can be easily be mentioned in Dan and The House That Gave Sucky Treats, respectively. I'd say, redirect it, probably to Dan. I get the feeling like this idea will meet with opposition from the usual suspects, but it's pretty much high time this article got some serious discussion. There've been two "Delete?" threads here over the last few years, but no actual discussion has ever taken place. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 04:22, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Some points to consider: Is Kewpie a character/pseudocharacter, or just a recurrence of the Dan running gag? If the former, covering this on Dan is out of the question, as characters shouldn't be covered on running gag articles. If the latter, coverage on Dan is the right thing to do.
Here's why I argue he's a character/pseudocharacter: First, he is acknowledged by Strong Bad as a person (and one worthy of an egging, at that). Secondly, we have an actual picture, which I find far from trivial in establishing his importance. (It also shows TBC put more effort into him than the usual thrown-off name.) If THTGST came out today, I don't think this would be an article. Regarding Heimstern's above question, I think I agree that he is more of a character/pseudocharacter than an inside joke. However, he never actually interacts with anybody within the toon or even makes an actual appearance (the most we have is a sketch of him). So, if THTGST came out today, I think that the information in the toon article, in Dan, and probably a mention in Unseen Characters#Mentioned (just like Lem Sportsinterviews, we've seen a picture of him but not his actual self) would be sufficient.
However, there are two things that this article has in its favor: (1) the fact that this article has been around such a long time counts for something: people thought it was significant back in 2004, and when people tried two times to propose deletion, nobody really agreed enough for the discussions to go anywhere. (2) The page has its own URL (kewpiedan.html), and this page doesn't currently seem to be accessible from the toon. So, it's kind of an interesting topic that could use a little visibility since it can't be easily accessed otherwise.
So, I agree that if the article was created today, it probably wouldn't last long, but given other considerations, I say let's just leave it as a separate article. Trey56 05:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
You raise some good points. While I don't agree with point 1 (age, I feel, is largely irrelevant; content is key), point 2 is interesting. It *does* actually have its own page, and since the link to it in the toon itself is broken, it *should* be pointed out... but wouldn't THTGST be a good enough place for it? That said, I'm not really sure I'd call this a character or even a pseudo-character. If that was the case, I wouldn't even be arguing here, as I'm in agreement that all characters, no matter how minor, should have a page. But Kewpie Dan... Well, all we see of him is a crude drawing, and it's not like Stong Bah actually interacts with him, or even really *mentions* him... he's just one name in a list of several, despite having an attached picture. Personally, I feel it's just another instance (one of the early ones, but...) of the Dan running gag, but that's just me. I'm a bit torn here; it wouldn't really hurt my feelings any if it was left as is, but at the same time, "it's been here for a while", by itself, isn't really an especially compelling reason for it to stay. Again, speaking as a relative newcomer following more recent guidelines, as opposed to a Senor Wiki...er -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 05:52, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
