The remarks section has too many sub-bullet sections that need to be reworded to sound less argumentative and/or merged into their respective parent-bullets. I just [http://hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Hremail_7&diff=715208&oldid=714849 fixed one of them] but the others are less clear cut, and might merit further discussion. [edit] Apply directly to the throat!

Isn't it a parody to Head-On's slogan? Also, isn't the fact that it is a "throat-iforgotwhatitiwassomethingrelatedrtoclogged" is similar to the fact that powdered drinks just taste horrible and clog throats if taken dry, or something?--Darkangel Get offa me! 07:25, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I say it's TTATOT. Many products and medications are supposed to be applied directly to something. Loafing 06:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I dunno, it seems pretty similar to me. The intonation of how Homestar says "apply directly to the esophagus!" reminds me greatly of Head-On's repeated "apply directly to the forehead!" slogan. Heimstern Läufer 09:28, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Lots of things use the phrasing "apply directly to ___". Besides, if it were really referencing HeadOn, wouldn't the line have been repeated at least a couple of times? Foxx 21:28, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Good Stuff

The way Homestar says "That's good stuff" reminds me of another cartoon. StarFox 00:30, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
What cartoon does it remind you of? — Defender1031*Talk 00:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Art style?

The characters are all drawn in much older styles, rather than their current ones. Is this worth mentioning?

It is dated "Copyright 2001" at the beginning, and meant to take place before some kinda robot, so the old art style would fit.

[edit] Homestar's Voice

It seems to me that after Homestar's voice clears up, it's changed from his old voice to his modern one, suggesting that the content of the Melonade Throat Closers packet is responsible for that change. Or am I just crazy?

It returned back to normal shortly after. Considering the difference in Homestar's voice between 2001 and 2009, maybe Matt did 2009 Homestar's voice for just those few lines instead of 2001 Homestar's? That'sBupkis! 23:10, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Tandy email count

While there were 38 sbemail cartoons that had emails answered on the Tandy, spring cleaning featured five emails checked, which if counted individually, puts the email count at 43 (37 before it blew up in gimmicks, though).

And if you count that, you should also count the very first e-mail Strong Bad ever checked, (as seen in lady...ing) bringing the total up to 44. --President Cold One 17:04, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Let's not forget Greeting Cards, where the fourth card suggests it took place in 2002, and E-mail Birds, where three emails where checked and answered. And by the way, if Strong Bad (in earliest animated style) used the Tandy to check the first e-mail from Fabrosi in lady...ing, how could there be a time in 2001 when Strong Bad gets that computer from Homestar? Now there's a little time flaw right there.--Charlie Jr. 16:17, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] butt1 - and1

The article currently lists "Butt1" as a reference to the b-ball apparel company "AND1". The reference seems a little tenuous to me. It seems to me that the only similarity is that they're both ___1 words. It could just as easily be a reference to Pier 1. I'm not to familiar with the AND1 company; is their logo or anything else similar to the Butt1 drink? Any comments? - Del Taco? 13:56, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

It might be seen as a play on words, using the homophones "but" and "butt".
I don't think it's a reference to "and1" or "Pier One" or any other one... it's a play on the earlier mention of there being "BUT ONE flavor" of melonade.
oh yea.. "but one flavor" makes much more sense. Though i get the "but1/and1" connection with them both being conjunctions, i think "but one flavor" makes more sense. - Del Taco? 19:18, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Super Golden Crisp jingle

Homestar's song about taking a bath in melonade sounds like the 1980s jingle for Super Golden Crisp (formerly Sugar Crisp). I'm not going to put it in without mentioning it here first. Check this out: [1] Wear a Bikini 20:30, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

That's what I thought, too. I was wondering if it was only me. -Brucker 22:11, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] A drinking stretch

It's really a stretch, so I did add it to the article, but in April 2003 (a month after March...) Homestar order 3 cool drinks for three cool guys. He never ends up drinking it, but he talked about them. Retcon? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:34, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

And in June of '03, Homestar pours Mountain Dew on Strong Bad's computer. A bit far off... I still think the witch's brew is the best bet. --DorianGray 21:01, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
But Homestar mentions witch's brew way back in Pumpkin Carve-nival, in October '02, so that seems like it would break said "contract" if it were indeed the drink. --TimMierz 00:32, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I was about to add that, arguably, that's Strong Bad. But then... there's the Easter egg. And as I added to the page previously, Homestar is said to drink Mountain Dew in techno. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
At the end of sbemail68 released on March 31, 2003, Homestar walks out with what Mike Chapman says is a cup of coffee perhaps punctuating the end of his contract. -- Wiki102938 09:26, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Randy 400!

I don't know if this should be mentioned, but, randy, other than being a name also is a word meaning sexually arroused. Anyone think TBC would do that?

No. — Defender1031*Talk 00:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thats Good Stuff

Wasn't this phrase used for the email Enviornment? When Strong Bad watered Marzipans plants with Cigarette Butts, the coughed then said "Oh... thats good stuff!" Do you think this is an inside refrence?

It's more of a drug-use joke. I've seen this happen in some other cartoons as well before the Marzipan's plants thing. There are too few occurrences of this on H*R to classify it as a running gag, and, therefore, mention it as an Inside Reference. —NFITC1talk 16:22, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
An inside reference is stated, somewhere, to be any reference to a previous toon, game, or any other material that The Brothers Chaps made, running gag or not. Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 20:39, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] It can't be THAT unintelligible

It sounds to me like "I have a face, and it gets in your gut"... which doesn't make an OUNCE of sense, but that's all I can get from it. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 02:54, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

It sounds like "Oh, I have a face, and <something> gun..." to me. "...it gets in your..." would fit where that <something> is. Again, that is also equally nonsensical, but this IS Strong Bad that's saying it. No one in that universe makes sense all the time. But "gun" would be out of left field even for them. —NFITC1talk 16:13, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I think he said "and it gets the job done" which makes some more sense. --Jellote 19:59, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I thought he said "And it gets in your gun." Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:50, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I hear "Oh, I have a face, and it is all done, I'm Strong Bad, he's The Cheat and I'm Strong Bad." Not sure how much sense it makes, perhaps he's making a joke about the art style and how many times it's been changed since then, but whatever the case, that's what i hear. — Defender1031*Talk 21:39, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I hear five distinct syllables between "and" and "I'm", though. "it is all done" is only four syllables. One thing we all seem to agree on, though, is that it's "face", not "place" as was originally written in the article (seems someone changed it since last I looked.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 22:10, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
PS. This should totally be this week's QotW. It's appropriate and it would solve this conumdrum.
Huh.. I'm going to vote for Jellote's interpretation. That is...if we're taking a vote. —NFITC1talk 03:28, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I thought it sounds like "and I'll kick you in the gut" Goodjorb

I'm fairly sure it's "I have a face, and 1-2-3-4-5." 5 syllables. Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 18:46, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

We can't just sit here like babies! It is time for action! LEGAL action! We must either clear this up with a vote now or lest we sucumb to *jibbly jibbly* using footnotes! The horror!--Jellote 11:44, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Okay, this is really bugging me.

I added it in the remark's section, but this hremail opened up a huge plot hole. Strong Bad was surprised when he discovered hremails in email thunder, but why? If he had already seen them in progress here, and in fact was convinced to start his email show because of this, wouldn't he remember his own email show's beginning? Does that bother any one else or just me? TheTylor 03:39, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

If you added it to remarks, what are you trying to get out of mentioning it here too? — Defender1031*Talk 04:14, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't think it's really a huge plot hole. Taking the idea and pretending it was his own, to the point that years later he has entirely forgotten that he got the idea from Homestar, or even ever saw Homestar answering emails, fits his arrogance and self-centered character to a tee. 98.222.134.36 14:41, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Wait, did everyone else not notice Strong bad saying "Let's go start answering fan mail in humorous fashion. Nobody's ever done that before!"? It seems despite walking in on homestar doing it, we was still oblivios to hremails all the way to email thunder.

[edit] Strong Bad's technical domain

  • Strong Bad is unfamiliar with net jargon such as "email", "internet", "www", "hyperlinks", "AOL keywords", but understands and uses "domain" correctly.

I removed this because it seems to me he's only echoing homestar and there's no implication he knows what it means, but it got put back because apparently someone thinks "the context of the phrase implies understanding. He didn't just 'echo' Homestar, but expresses competence at performing a complex task for a complete noob. think linguistically!". Rather than revert warring, i'm bringing it up here, because even though he's ACTING confident he'll be able to do it, it seems like he's doing just that, acting. It fits his personality. I don't think there's any indication at all that he knows what he's doing. — Defender1031*Talk 05:03, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Apparently Jay agrees with me... — Defender1031*Talk 05:07, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey! How dare you put words in my... what? Oh, yeah, you're right. I do agree. ;) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 05:13, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree too.. he could easily be just echoing... too speculative to assume he understands it - Del Taco? 13:20, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
He talks about finding "my own domain" as a direct contrast to using "myname@yourname.com," which would suggest that he understands yourname.com to be the domain.146.122.71.68 20:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but that's right after homestar implies that contrast in the first place. — Defender1031*Talk 20:56, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Strong Bad is a liar

Okay, let me finally clear this up. Strong Bad wouldn't mind showing he knows Homestar's email address in some SBemails, but in Email Thunder, he is surprised. Or acting surprised. You see, getting an email show idea from Homestar is not cool, so Strong Bad would act surprised and even deny he thought Homestar had an email address, just to cover up this event that he had no control over. More to back this up is that he later lied by saying he doesn't know how to type with boxing gloves and Abdi, in the Homestar Runner universe, only emailed Strong Bad because The Cheat made him. My theory is that he'd also lie about where he got the email show idea (or an email address in general). — TheFunmachine (Talk | contribs) 11:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC) (left unsigned)

This discussion would be more appropriate on the forum, as it really has nothing to do with the article here on the wiki. That said, I agree. (and his lies are pretty well documented). I think it's quite likely that his surprise in Email Thunder was genuine, after enough time denying the truth, it gets pushed out of conscious thought and he truly believes his version of history. 98.222.134.36 15:02, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wait a Sec?

In the Sbemail Gimmicks Strong Sad says that Strong Bad got the Tandy at a garage sale for like 15 dollars! But here he got it out of the trash for like free! I think that's a major goof! --Stong L. Bod 21:55, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Not quite. Strong Sad says that Strong Bad could get a computer like his at a garage sale for, like, fifteen dollars. --DorianGray 21:57, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] As a three-way response to comments 13, 14, and 16...

Word on the forum is that this is all a big retcon, and considering all the inconsistencies we've picked out... I'm settling for the theory that TBC made this as a reference to the new Star Trek movie joke. lolz but, a buttdanceNeox ONION BUBS!YOU WILL RESPECT MAH AUTHORI-TAH!!! 00:31, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Inconsistency attack

since there has been a large pile of inconsistencies coming from this toon, i think they should have their own section under Fun Facts. also, one more for the pile before i add it in: if homestar had his own email show before sbemails began, and had knowledge of internet and technology, and PREVIOUSLY OWNED THE TANDY, then what's up with his reaction in 50 emails? --Neumannz 12:03, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Look at the design gap between 7 and 49, sure, maybe Homestar is a little slow on answering new e-mails, but it is quite possible that he forgot about his show for a while, and being Homestar, forgot about e-mails. Now, don't you bring up credit card, I don't have an answer to that. --The Swedish Ace 18:57, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with there being a separate section for Inconsistencies/Canon Breaks in this email, since there are so many. --TimMierz 18:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
No, just putting them on Inconsistencies within the Homestar Runner Universe should be enough. Thy Not Dennis (t/c) 20:40, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Contract expiry

Is there any Inside-Ref significance to March 2003? I had a quick look through the toons of that time... and he's got a cup of coffee at the end of caper, which came out at the end of March 2003. Is anyone bored enough to look through all of Homestar's appearances from ca. 2001 to caper and see if that's the first time he's seen drinking or talking about (or bathing in, I guess) a non-Melonade drink? --phlip TC 14:29, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] the tandy

I was watching some of the computers being destroyed. after the tandy exploded, strong sad says that strong bad got it at a garage sale for 15 bucks. even if garage sale means garBage sale, he never paid any money for it. I put this up and it got taken down. I dun know Goodjorb

Watch again, he says that you COULD get one LIKE IT at a garage sale, not that he DID get THAT ONE there. — Defender1031*Talk 01:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Number

I'm noticing that this hremail is being placed in between hremails 2000 and 3184. whenever such an inconsistency in release dates has happened before, it has been in line with the number instead of the release date. should we keep consistent to that incidence here or not? The Knights Who Say Ni 04:31, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Now i see that they've all been reverted. I specifically opened this talk section so that they wouldn't be reverted before coming to a consensus here. That's what talk pages are for. Why did they all get reverted first? The Knights Who Say Ni 17:01, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ghost cable

I noticed that when Strong Bad takes the computer out of the trash can, the cable isn't lifted out of the can, it just goes through it instead. Should this be in the remarks section? 24.12.29.215 17:23, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

I'd say so. Looks more like a goof than a remark, though. That'sBupkis! 17:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] The Cheat's 2001 voice used?

I've noticed that in this Hremail, The Cheat's voice can be compared to A Jumping Jack Contest and A Jorb Well Done. It's a little softer than modern toons. Would this be noted under "Remarks" along with Homestar Runner's voice? That'sBupkis! 22:30, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

I think this is due to the fact like they've gone back in time, this was made in 2009 but is meant to look like 1999 because everyone sounds like they're from a Jump Jack Contest, made in the same year. So no, it's on purpose, they could of matched, or they're used the same recorded, whatever way they did it, it's on purpose. -- Bubz 22:40, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
