It's a fact that the screensavers were made by a program called "Pitbull 3.0" and it was registered to Earthlink, where Matt Chapman used to work. I just thought that was kind of relevant. - M.J

Whenever I try to download the Homestar screensaver, it gives me the same "You are not authorized to view this page" error for take-a-break.exe.

Works for me. Have you tried your browser's "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." feature? -- Tom 23:39, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

They've become password-protected. And while I kinda wish I knew the password, please don't post it if you know. TBC obviously did it for a reason (maybe bandwidth), and I'm not sure it would be ethical to undermine it. —notstrongorbad 06:10, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I don't think it's intentional, because it's on and off. It works for me right now, but I don't doubt it will break again. I'm guessing there's something misconfigured in the server when it comes to serving .exe files - probably a overzealous security monitor or a virus protector or something (the fact that these .exe's and the take-a-break .exe both do this and nothing else does lends credence to this). --phlip ^T_C 07:21, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

That would be a violation of copyright. Using limited stills from toons here is one thing; that's arguably covered by "fair use" doctrine. But wholesale duplication of their material (which is apparently still being made available, albeit sporadically) isn't really ethical. - Qermaq - (^T/C)  01:04, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

We operate at the pleasure of TBC. They are completely aware of us, and even use us as a resource. As long as they're cool with what we do, then we're cool. If I had to guess why we have a good relationship with them (I've never actually spoken with them) is that we try our best to respect certain boundaries in what we reproduce here. If my guess is right, then making a transcript is okay because a transcript is a completely different medium from viewing the toon and could never take the place of the toon itself, whereas duplicating works that are still on the site in or near their original form would be a huge breach of their trust. In other words, we try to document their work in a way that supplements the official site but is never a substitute for it. — It's dot com 19:11, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

does no one else maybe want to add the "unleashing strong bad on your unsuspecting computer" verification as a fun fact? just a suggestion... (im aware of the Homestar verification, but i dont remember the message)

Sorry, it may only appear depending on what comp its downloaded to... i have windows xp, and when i installed the strong beer screensaver, a little window popped up and asked me if i wanted to "unleash strong bad on my unsuspecting computer". the same thing happened with the homestar screensaver, but with a different message. it seemed worthy of a fun fact entry.
