Balloon Manimals

Could it be a refererence to NBC's short-lived Manimal TV show? Bad Bad Guy 22:46, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Are you talking about shapeshifter? -- Lazylaces Talk 00:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm talking about the part pf this game's preview where Homestar says balloon manimals will appear at his party. Bad Bad Guy 01:14, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Copy/Paste

Umm... this is exactly the description from the Teltale Games website. Shouldn't this be... original? It looks really bad when it's made with a couple right clicks.

-Yeah, it's me.

Well, they know better than we do. When the actual episode is put up, will probably put a more fitting explanation on the page. --DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 00:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Is it really word-for-word? Yeah, I agree that we should try to summarize the plot rather than repeat the same paragraph verbatim. Trey56 01:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I did my best to write a different summary... Trey56 02:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Places

Should there be a places line like other toon articles? Just wondering. (Obvious place is the track field.) ColdReactive

Let's wait until we know all the places in the game. Bad Bad Guy 01:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Which butt?

The butt link goes to a disambiguation page. Which article should this link to? --70.143.29.70 02:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure if it should link to anything in this case. Is linking to twees is good enough? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 02:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I'd think so. --70.143.29.70 02:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Change "announcement"?

For some reason, when i read this, I thought the game was announced early for some reason. Would we be able to have "gameplay trailer" for this instead? --70.143.29.70 02:46, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hm, we certainly don't want to mislead people. Better now? Trey56 03:14, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
What about "preview"? --70.143.29.70 11:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Which PP?

PP could refer to either Pom Pom or Peacey P, couldn't it? DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 07:51, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Or Pan Pan. Or Peter Parker, the Pied Piper, Power Points, PowerPoint, PayPal... (And more!) Pom Pom is the most likely, because he's a main character. Also, his character video uses vcr_pp as part of its URL (and Coach Z's uses vcr_cz). --DorianGray 07:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but Coach Z and Peacey P are seen together more often than Coach Z and Pom Pom. There's more of an affiliation between the two. Dementedc 11:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
On the contrary, Coach Z and Peacey P have been seen together once. But since they're main characters, any toon that includes all main characters necessarily includes Coach Z and Pom Pom, frequently at the same time. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I see what you mean. I'm just saying that Coach Z would probably be more likely to hang out with Peacey P than with Pom Pom.Dementedc 19:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
You also have to consider which of the two characters would be more likely to compete in a Free Country USA sporting event: Pom Pom, or Peacey P. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:57, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Toad Weasel

What exactly does Homestar say before he kicks the phone? Even though it's not too much of sense make, I think he said "play of the low-lynched-toad weasel" --70.143.29.70 22:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm prooty sure that's what he said, now that I hear it again. --Das654 19:14, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

It's "plight of the low-lands toad weasel". Hooray for the in-game subtitles! --DorianGray 19:44, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Illegal op?

When I access the Telltale page linked at the bottom, I get an error along the lines of "The Shockwave plugin performed an illegal operation. You are strongly urged to restart Firefox." Anyone else? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 23:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

OMIGOSH THE MUNICIPALITY IS COMING! RUN, QERMAQ, RUN!!! Maybe update Flash? Check for a new version of Firefox? I dunno. I can view it just fine in Firefox. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 23:55, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Any specifics on the error? Or is it just that message? --70.143.29.70 00:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
With an illegal op? Unlikely. If you're lucky, you can find out what DLL the error happened in, but even then you'd have to dig hard for it. I'm with Jay... uninstall/reinstall Shockwave and Flash. --phlip TC 08:55, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, guys. Actually, a computer restart fixed it. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:09, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Transcript

Hey guys...should we really put the transcript out here? Couldn't we make a page that's just like "Homestar Ruiner Gameplay Video Transcript" or something less long. Or, when it comes out, are we just going to leave the transcript there? Won't we put something more related to the actual episode itself instead of the Gameplay trailer? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:03, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I think it's okay for now. But as you point out, when the game is released, the gameplay trailer transcript will not be relevant in this format, either on this page or on its own page.
At some point, we need to figure out if/how we're going to transcribe all the dialogue from the game. But that wouldn't go on this page, after the episode comes out, this page will be more of an overview, like the Peasant's Quest and Thy Dungeonman III pages are. Trey56 03:29, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Since the game itself will have multiple branches, a transcript of any type won't make sense. I can see being done with this game (along with the others in the series), where certain set pieces are transcribed (for example, Homestar Ruiner is suppose to open with Strong Bad singing and going around the house) like Stinkoman 20X6. Beyond that. the best we could do would be a walkthrough or hints on triggering Easter eggs. However, since things like the trailer/preview are fixed, a transcript of those makes sense. wbwolf (t | ed) 04:47, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
By the way, if you want to contribute to the discussion over what to transcribe and how to do it, I raised this issue on this talk page. – The Chort 16:34, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I think the transcript should be done as a spoiler, as in typed all in white, and when someone wants the surprise to be ruined, they highlight the letters so they can read it. I've seen that done before. -->senorsmallws7.png Parrothead1 senorsmallak8.png 11:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

I think we should move this page to Homestar Ruiner Trailers and use this article only to transcribe and explain parts of the actual SBCG4AP level. BBG 02:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

We should talk about that when the time comes. In the meantime, it shall rest in peace. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 05:14, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Related topic: As part of the announcement on the Telltale Blogs, it was mentioned that a second gameplay trailer was coming out in the near future, and part of it was featured in the "On The Spot" episode. (It focuses on Strong Bad talking to Marzipan at the party, and then shows some additional activities that Strong Bad can do.) I suspect, that since this is the first episode of a new series, there might be multiple transcripts for this episode. Any thoughts on how to incorporate those into this page specifically? wbwolf (t | ed) 03:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

The second gameplay trailer was already released...remember "Around the Field"? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 23:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Reopening topic- In the interim I've played two Sam & Max games (Abe Lincoln Must Die! and Ice Station Santa), and I've found the way that Telltale handles the Walkthrough and Did You Try? sections especially to be good models on how we want to model how we handle the game pages. Like Stinkoman 20X6, it might be necessary to subdivide that page, but Walkthrough for the main plot, and then hints for eggs or side question locations (such as manual pages, costumes, index cards, etc.) would be the way to go. wbwolf (t | ed) 22:30, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

(Try again) Looking over the new Homestar Ruiner page, it looks like they will do the same thing as they do with the Sam & Max games: providing a walkthrough and hints on things to try for Easter eggs or funny responses. Obviously, we should link to these official walkthroughs, rather than reinventing the wheel. So, what should this page be reserved for? My thought is to have it focus on transcripts (trailers and set pieces), as well as documenting Fun Facts. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:58, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

I think the best thing to do is to include one transcript for each place he visits. BBG 22:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

IF we transcribe every line, I agree with this. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 00:08, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Given the amount of dialogue in this game, both obvious and really, really obscure, that sounds like potentially risking death by transcription. Personally, a quick and brief summary of the events in the game (and not specifically how to finish it, like the walkthrough) would be more than sufficient. Kind of like what you'd get on Wikipedia, except seeing as we're NOT Wikipedia, we can go just a smidgen more in-depth with it. --Shadow Hog 04:26, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Transcript change?

Hey guys, it's 20X6MAN, I forgot to log in. Anyways, I watched the trailer, and you might need to change the transcript. If you watch it again, you'll see what I mean.

I only watched the first few seconds, but he's right. The trailer *was* changed pretty much exactly to what was added to the article. It wasn't actually random vandalism. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 03:18, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Huh, how odd. Also note that the scoreboard now reads "OFFICIAL RACE TIMES". The original version (or at least the fact that it changed) should be noted somewhere, of course. --DorianGray 03:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I just watched it, and nothing seems to have changed. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:25, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, sorry for thinking it was vandalism. Weird that they changed it. And I had liked that Strong Bad had referenced the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. Oh well. Homestar-Winner (talk) 03:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Uh...I'm not seein' anything. We're talking about the gameplay vid, right? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 05:38, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes. This video right here. --DorianGray 05:41, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm seeing the "old" version of it. It doesn't do any of the things that the transcript says now. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 05:47, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, I cannot help you clear your browser cache. No, I'm not in India. --DorianGray 05:54, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
But before you do, you may want to save a copy of the old version in case these wiki guys intend to keep a mirror of it. — Defender1031*Talk 13:19, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I agree with the mirror thingy. And the new trailer just started working for me :) DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 20:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

New video

There's a new video on the TellTale games website for SBCG4AP. Should we make a new page for it or put everything on this page? -PeterImage:Petersig.png

Since it's the same game and the purpose of the page is to document the game itself, the second transcript should be put here. wbwolf (t | ed) 20:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hallelujah!!! I can Hardly BREATHE!!!

Yessss! Finally! Im so excited! It comes out Monday! Rats... I'll be gone for a while... so I'll get it after I get back from Wyoming. BUT IM HAVIN A PARTY ON MY TALK PAGE!!! senorsmallws7.png Parrothead1 senorsmallak8.png

Okay, chill. --Das654 19:18, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

No Eyes On Deck

I got a glitch after playing through the tutorial. Homestar's eyes are gone on the Main-Page-style title screen. I have a screenshot. His eyes only appear when he says "Wait, is it my turn?" on the settings button, when his eyelids are lowered. Is it just me? (PC Version) OptimisticFool 18:19, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I managed to get myself a similar glitch with Strong Bad's eyes disappearing after watching (or skipping through, as it was) the preview for Strong Badia The Free. I think they're just random texture glitches. - C.Olimar788 21:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

According to TTG, this is a problem with older versions of DirectX. Try updating to the latest version. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:22, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
The installer supposedly did that. OptimisticFool 22:21, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

That Papers Alive!?

The original paper shows up every now and then to give instructions in the game. It's definetely the original one. Did it come back to life? -TheDenzel (not signed in)

The game has been in progress for a while. Probably since before The Paper died. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) (definitely signed in)
Not that I mean to purposefully contradict you, but The Paper occurred June 11, 2007. I'm sure the email was being created before that. It's not completely unlikely that this the game was at least planned at this time, but you'd think if they knew this would come out after 'ol Papes died that they'd make it the New Paper. —NFITC1talk 19:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay? But shouldn't this still be documented somewhere? --TheDenzel again (not signed in)

HRFWiki Reference?

At one point in the game, Strong Bad says something along the lines of "Thank goodness for this conveniently placed privacy curtain." It sounds suspiciously like the conveniently placed trampoline running gag to me. - 66.30.141.108 21:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC) (X On Fire from the HRFWiki)

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when I heard it... if nothing else can be found with similar wording I'd say there's a good chance its a reference. Which is rather awesome. - C.Olimar788 03:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I would think that "conveniently placed [item]" would be far too common a phrase to pin to anything in particular. — Defender1031*Talk 03:49, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
There's a discussion like this going up on the Fanstuff's Glossary talk. I'd give a link, but I can't remember the entire title. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Is there any hope for a Linux freak like me?

Or do I have to install *shudder* windoze? — Defender1031*Talk 21:25, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, if you own a Wii... --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 21:27, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

If you have WINE, you might have a chance of running the game.... wbwolf (t | ed) 21:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
i do have WINE. But i'm not sure it's worth paying for a game on the chance that it might work... sigh... i guess i'll just wait till i can get a wii. — Defender1031*Talk 21:34, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
You can always download the free demo and try that on WINE. Who knows! TTGJake 02:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I just learned there was a demo and came to suggest this..... and I'm six and a half hours late. OptimisticFool 08:54, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Wen i get settled back in israel i'll try it... i'm flying in 13 hours. — Defender1031*Talk 09:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Wiki is thanked in the credits

Don't know if anyone saw it. I just beat the game. It thanks the hrwiki.

Can't say it's terribly unexpected - TBC say they like the Wiki and even look up info they forget on it - but cool nonetheless. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 22:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Forshadowing for next game?

hey guys, in extended play, the king of town is really angry at you because he was forced to get married to the mole queen. he threatens to tax strong bad disproportionately, and strong bad says "that sounds... ominous." could this be foreshadowing for the next game?

Strong Badia the Free. Although, if we haven't already, we could put it as a Fun Fact. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Walkthrough

Should we get started on a walkthrough? I already have the game and I can start a walkthrough page tomorrow if we need one. Foogs. 00:07, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

There is no need. Telltale website for the episode already has an excellent one up already. Why reinvent the wheel? wbwolf (t | ed) 00:32, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
However, said walkthrough does NOT cover anything that leads to the 100% completion ranking, such as high scores, trophy requirements, and where to find secret items. Perhaps we should rectify that on a "Secrets Guide" of sorts? -- Cyberlink420 04:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
It would be very naughty and lazy of us to copy Telltale's walkthrough word-by-word. We didn't steal the Stinkoman 20X6 and Peasant's Quest walkthroughs off Gamefaqs, did we? Let's just allow someone with plenty of time on their hands to create our own and allow others to edit it, as is usually done on this wiki. – The Chort 11:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Here Is a page for the walkthrough.-Philip8o

Clean Up Time!

Okay, the first episode's out and this article needs to be revolutionised. Here's all the stuff we need to do, or at least, consider:

  • List all the Easter Eggs and other secrets.
  • Record all the Fun Facts, including Trivia, Remarks, Goofs, Glitches, Inside References and Real-World References. If these lists get too long, we can create individual articles for each section, a la Stinkoman 20X6.
  • Write a walkthrough. One section can tell you how to blast through the game, other sections can detail how to get 100% ranking.
  • Discuss what to do with the transcripts of the two promotional trailers. I propose creating a new article and moving all relevant information there. Unless we...
  • Consider whether to transcribe the ENTIRE game?

All these issues are discussed here, there and also here. Oh, and I won't be able to do any of this until I get my own laptop or we connect the Wii via our broadband connection. And until I'm allowed to buy/download stuff off the Internet. I just wanted to organise all our ideas for you. :) – The Chort 11:58, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

At the very least, if it hasn't been done already, we should list the cast members who appear in this episode and update their respective filmographies accordingly. Also, if we decide to do a full walkthrough, I'd be willing to do some work on the 100% completion guide. -- Cyberlink420 15:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I agree with The Chort, a Walkthrough we should at seriously consider, and I am willing to help with a full transctipt. ThePizz Pick 15:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Easter Eggs

There's got to be some easter eggs hidden somewhere in this game. Like a secret homsar or something. TheThin 14:47, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I've found a secret shirt that you can't put in your wardrobe by going in the photo booth, jumping off at the right 3 times till you land underneath the floor, and going as far back as you can below the entrance. (crappy description, I know.) But other than that, I don't know of any easter eggs. ThePizz Pick 18:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh, there are plenty of Easter eggs. All of the clothing items, TGS extras, Snake Boxer manual pages, the trophies, and really, any number of things that you can do that don't advance the plot. However, I don't think Homsar appears in person in this one (you can prank call him... sorta... but that's it.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 18:30, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I guess those are technically Easter eggs, but I think he meant besides anything needed to get 100%. ThePizz Pick 19:10, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Do mentions belong in other relavent articles?

So, is it our intent to put all references and fun facts from the game on this page exclusively, or should we mention them in the relevant articles also? As an example, one of Homestar's random ramblings is an instance of the oft-mentioned letter G. Should it be noted on that page as well as here?  Green Helmet 15:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, isn't that what we already do for normal toons? I don't see why that should be changed... -- Cyberlink420 19:37, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. I just wasn't sure — since it's not a normal toon.  Green Helmet 20:28, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Responses

If we do Responses pages, I recommend having a main responses page and breaking the actual (non-generic) responses into the following:

And either we can have Homestar Ruiner Responses (The Field) or six separate ones for the different places within The Field... not that the distinction between borders is necessarily obvious (and most places within The Field don't have much - take The Stick, for instance. Only a few objects there at all.)

If we do this, it'll be a massive undertaking; even though the game is fairly short for a game, it's still longer than any H*R cartoon ever and has lots of hidden dialogue.

Anyone else have anything to add? Since discussion in the past has been scattered, let's try to keep discussion on Responses in one place (here) until we decide whether or not we'll even do them in the first place. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

That sounds good. It will be a daunting feat, especially since we have to do it 5 times, but I'm up for it. ThePizz Pick 20:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
We went ahead and did every Peasant's Quest response. How hard can Homestar Ruiner be? SuperfieldCreditUnion
BTW, though I'm not expecting it to be an easy task, I am for a series of Responses pages assuming that there's no legal problem (my understanding is that there is not, but of course we must honor a Cease and Desist request should TBC issue one out.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 22:55, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I think we only need 1 article (this one) for responses relevant to the plot and 1 article for all the extra stuff such as digging, commenting, insulting, etc. BBG 02:18, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

I think one page is enough too — although I think it should be responses, and not this article — organized into sections as proposed above. At least to start... even having played the game through, it's hard for me to visualize how much space they'll take. We can always split the sections off into pages if it turns out they are too much.
There is also the issue of dividing responses into game phases, in some cases the responses change after certain milestones are reached, but in many cases they do not. It will probably work to note these cases in as sub-sub-section's.  Green Helmet 14:13, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

So, uh...

Is the nly Homsar egg on the phone? Supermsn 21:25, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Far as I'm aware. IGN implies that Homsar will have a bigger role in Strong Badia the Free, though. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 22:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of Blocks

Forgive me if this is already posted elsewhere, but how many blocks does Homestar Ruiner use on the Wii (for both the actual game and any saves, etc)? — Kilroy / talk 22:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

The game itself uses, If I remember correctly, 319 blocks, but I don't know saves offhand.ThePizz Pick 22:48, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Sweet, thanks. Looks like I'll have just enough space to download it (at least, this episode :) — Kilroy / talk 22:50, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Freezing

Is it me, or does the game freeze at the beginning of the end of the game? --Mini-Trogdor 00:25, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

It always freezes for me when Strong Bad is throwing the turtle. How 'bout you? Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
For me it froze while talking to Coach Z in extended play. Apparently that scene doesn't work in HD 16X9. BBG 02:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind. It works for me now. Homestar-Winner (talk) 03:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

CloneWarrior 02:42, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! But is there anyway to get the last one if the KOT's hole is already covered? Acam30 04:48, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, you get more candy from Bubs and put it on top of the hedge trimmings to make them, and the candy, fall into the hole. 76.122.192.132 05:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

HOMSETAR

Goofs * At the non-garden party, the rollover for Marzipan and Homestar is spelled "MARZIPAN & HOMSETAR".

Um, I think that was intentional; remember? Marzipan kept forgetting Homestar's name, even called him "Homsar."

It would be intentional if Marzipan had said "HOMSETAR", but it's on the rollover tooltip, and is thus much more likely to be a spelling mistake than intentional. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 13:24, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Is this a goof?

When Strong Bad first talks to Marzipan in her garden, her mouth is backwards. I'm not sure it's a goof, because I think it happened in a cartoon before.

Oh no, we've been found out...

If Strong Bad is seen by the Poopsmith while sneaking through the castle, he'll pull up a sign with exclamation marks on it. Could this be a possible reference to Metal Gear Solid? ~ SonicKB

I doubt it, in the Metal Gear games, it's Snake who has the exclamation point on his head, not the person who saw him. Plus, the Poopsmith also uses a sign that says "Not you again!" CloneWarrior 14:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of pages

Basically, we need to figure out how many pages we need to make for this game. I'm thinking:

A walkthrough page
A page for all the collectibles (Manual Pages, TGS Ideas, Clothing and Trophies)
Seperate transcript articles for the House of Strong, the Track, Marzipan's House, the KoT's Castle, and the Field (all six parts in one article)

This makes 10 articles including the main page, the Snake Boxer 5 page and the TGS page. CloneWarrior 14:59, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Huzzah!!

When you beat the game, in the "special thanks" section of the credits it has hrwiki! There's a page about all the times TBC mentions us somewhere... HaldoHelscome!
