:::I did notice a few days prior that the site was down. However, as the anonny said just recently, that shouldn't be grounds for the removal of the entirety of the fact; it could be updated to say that the page existed at the time of the toon's release or it could link to an archive, but wholly removing the info to say only that the site doesn't exist shouldn't be the first option. {{User:DEIDATVM/sig}} 22:33, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Ding! First Time Here? is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

[edit] URL Pretty Text finishes before Homestar?

This may be nothing, but when watching this for my comment on the "Cut" vs. "Uhh" question, I noticed that when Homestar says "Homestarrunner.net", the text finishes appearing on the screen before he finishes says "dot net". This also happens later when Homestar says "USS Homestarrunner.com" - the text appears almost before he says it. Is this a glitch or am I just high? --TheEggman 23:02, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)

How is it a glitch? --Jay 23:09, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)
Maybe it's not, but I found it odd that with Homestar screwing up his lines, the graphics are wrong with him BEFORE he even says them. Like I said, I could be totally off my rocker thinking this is something when it's nothing. --TheEggman 00:04, 9 Feb 2005 (MST)
If it IS before, it's not by enough to really matter. They're supposed to appear at roughly the same time that Homestar says them - which they do. After all, it's just like real commercials where words get added to the screen at the same time a person says them - they're added later on so the timing may not be PERFECT (now, don't ask me why Cherry Greg would add the words on-screen to all of Homestar's outtakes.) --Jay 01:31, 9 Feb 2005 (MST)

[edit] Not a "Cut"?

The transcript for the section where Homestar is wearing a different outfit has the director saying, "Cut! No." I have always heard it is "Uhh...no." I think there's a 'g' or a 'k' sound before the 'uh', but there's no 't' at the end, hence my hearing it as "Uhh" rather than "Cut". Does anyone else hear it this way? -- TheEggman

I agree. — InterruptorJones[[]] 21:52, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)
I don't. I think it might be two people speaking. One saying "cut" and the other saying "no." Similarly, the guy who announces "Homestarrunner.com welcome speech take {whatever}" isn't the director. --Jay 23:11, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)
I'm not talking about the clapboard guy - I'm talking about the guy who says "Cut" (elsewhere in the toon) - I know that the "Take {whatever}" guy and the director are two different voices, but "Uhh... no." (or "Cut! No.") is distinctly said by the same person (easy to tell, since apart from Homestar, there are only two other voices, and neither "Uhh/Cut" or "No" is said by the clapboard guy).
Which I do not agree with at all. I'm hearing the "cut" and I don't think they ARE "distinctly" the same voice on "Cut! No." I've never thought that and can't hear it even when I try now. The director says "Cut!" and the clapboard guy says "No." in disgust. --Jay 01:20, 9 Feb 2005 (MST)
The clapboard guy's voice is more nasal-sounding, while the director has a little more bass to it. Both "Uhh" and "No" have the bass to it and lack the nasal sound. Also, why would the clapboard guy say "No"? The clapboard guy's job is to say the take number and hit the clapboard. All the clapboard guy ever says is "Homestar Runner Dot Com Welcome Speech Take {whatever}" - in fact he says "Take {whatever} *clap*" right before the director says "Uhh...No." It's most definitely not the clapboard guy who says "No". --TheEggman 09:17, 9 Feb 2005 (MST)
Also, I just listened to it, and the 'g/k' sound I heard is just a random mouth noise (like smacking your lips, or the sound made when your mouth and your tongue clicks, something like that). --TheEggman 23:57, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)

Let me change it on the subtitles. --Addict 2006 13:55, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

I can hear a very slight /t/ sound, but I think that's just because he closes his mouth slightly between "uhh" and "no". I don't think it's the word "cut". — It's dot com 16:37, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I uploaded the image from the old 'Tavi page and used it to replace this one. I did this because with this type of image .png is better than .jpg, and the image size is correct, without all that extra white space below the actual image. -- Tom 13:08, 15 Sep 2004 (MST)

[edit] Spanish

I did a babelfish translation of "Bienvenidos a Homestarrunner.com. ¿Conoces a Miguel? ¡Sí! Somos buenos amigos—" and it came up with "Welcome to Homestarrunner.com. You know Miguel? Yes! We are good friends—". Can someone put that on the page somewhere?

[edit] something.com

I just went to something.com. The DNS server could not be reached. StarFox 04:38, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Seems like it might be a temporary or local issue. I can access something.com just fine. DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 12:46, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

I did notice a few days prior that the site was down. However, as the anonny said just recently, that shouldn't be grounds for the removal of the entirety of the fact; it could be updated to say that the page existed at the time of the toon's release or it could link to an archive, but wholly removing the info to say only that the site doesn't exist shouldn't be the first option.
