TGS-esque Voices?

This might just be me, but the teen kid and gravely mum/mom voices sound a bit like characters from Teen Girl Squad. Do you think they did voices like that on purpose? Because the Mom sounds sorta like The Ugly One, or one of the other members of the Squad. --Gerkuman 09:45, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Both TGS and the commentary were done by Strong Bad, so they are bound to sound similar. Loafing 09:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
I was thinking that the teenage boy voice sounded like teenage Strong Bad from highschool. I don't think they're intentional references though. Trey56 09:44, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
But there is a chance that TBC chose that style of voices for it. (Croaky, high Stongbad voices) Is that qulaification for a fact or is it too much of a stretch? --Gerkuman 09:49, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
My interpretation is that Strong Bad was choosing from his repertoire of croaky voices to make fun of the guy in the picture, not necessarily trying to draw reference to the TGSers. (I may be wrong though.) Trey56 09:52, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
To me, the Mom voice sounds a lot like Delililea (or however you spell that) from the email Senior Prom. But yeah, it's TTATOT. The croaky SB voice style is prevalent throughout the site. ~ Bruce 04:59, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Definitely TTATOT. But just to share how TTATOT - I hear a lot of PBTC Strong Bad in the last "teenager" line. Of course. that's ridiculous. We have to realize that all these different voices are by one guy, and hey, some of them will sound alike from time to time. That does not, however, mean it's a reference. Transcript Uncertainties

There were a couple lines in the transcript that I wasn't sure about:

STRONG BAD: Yes. Thank you. Tonight.

Could this be "Good night"?

STRONG BAD: What's this guy smilin' about? {in a mocking voice} Oh, yeah. I just got promoted to the three-foot-wide cubicle. Now I can fit four to three post-its on my wall. Hey Doogen, you stayin' after tonight for the LAN party?

I'm really not sure about these, especially the Local Area Network party... Trey56 09:56, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I'd say that It 's more likely to be goodnight. But I think the LAN party thing shows up SB's lack of computer knowlege, rather than a mistranscribe. --Gerkuman 09:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, "Good night." makes more sense contextually...I just had trouble hearing the "g" sound. Go ahead and change it if you're confident in what you hear. :) Trey56 10:04, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
I think the first one is probably "Tonight". He said it a lot in local news, and that's what it sounds like to me. Shwoo 10:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Drat, it can work both ways. --Gerkuman 10:11, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
It's "tonight" from local news. It's a hard reference.
STRONG BAD: Good evening and tonight.
STRONG BAD: Yes, well, thank you, tonight.

STRONG BAD: {commentary} ...So, if you're a news...carster...you gotta...you gotta say "tonight" as much as possible.
MIKE: Mmhmm.
STRONG BAD: That's what I learned.
MIKE: Well, you say it a lot in this email.
STRONG BAD: Yeah, you're supposed to. Because you have to remind people, or they'll think it's the afternoon news, and they'll turn it off. Nobody wants to watch that crap.
MIKE: No, just the evening news.
STRONG BAD: Yeah. Evening—
MIKE: "Tonight."
STRONG BAD: Tonight. The tonight news. We should have called it that.

{simultaneously, after newscaster Strong Bad says "Yes. Well, thank you. Tonight."}
MIKE: There, he said... There, he did... So, Bubs... Bubs is...
STRONG BAD: See? Because, see, someone was about to change the channel, they'd be like, "Oh, this is the—this is noonday. I don't want to watch noonday." Oh! Yeah...

STRONG BAD: {After newscaster Strong Bad says "tonight" again} ...See? Once again, that was, like, five more viewers—
MIKE: That doesn't even make any sense.
STRONG BAD: {laughs} What do you mean?
MIKE: I mean, you're just saying "tonight."
STRONG BAD: I s—I kept reiterating that it is tonight!
MIKE: And you never told us what the World in Crisis was about.
STRONG BAD: That's to get you to come back tomorrow night and watch.
BazookaJoe 15:34, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Doogen sounds like a good enough guess to me. It's probably his last name. LAN party, definitely. Geeky people at the office have LAN parties. Just like me and people from my workplace. —BazookaJoe 15:37, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Mario and the KOT

I put this fun fact in, but I'll admit it's a bit of a stretch:

  • The Mario costume in the background of one of the pictures may be a reference to the King of Town, who dressed up as Mario in Pumpkin Carve-nival.

What do you guys think? Keep, or is it too far a stretch?

  • The Al Roker losing a lot of weight in regards to Strong Sad also is too much of a stretch. It's just a skinnier guy dressed up as SS, just like the above is just a guy dressed as Mario standing next to a guy dressed like HSR.
We don't note references that are made by other people as references. TBC didn't make a Mario reference, the submitter of the photo did. So I say it's unnotable. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 15:35, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I was immediately reminded of this when I saw it but I don't think it's a reference. SaltyTalk! 01:34, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I was reminded of myself on Halloween when I saw this. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 00:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Not Necessarily

To me, it sounds like Homestar is saying "Not necessary", which would make more sense in the context. --Color Printer 14:04, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

"Necessarily" makes perfect sense. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 15:36, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Missing Picture

Has anyone noticed that when you scroll your mouse over the fan costumes '06 button in the holiday section you see a picture of a Homestar costume in the preview box and it's not in the cartoon.Flamer8965 14:52, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Quake?

Is it just me or is it really the Quake logo on strong bads mask on pic 13? User:Cyberdemon 7:03am, 7 Nov 2006

No, it's not the Quake logo. It's just a really badly drawn version of that one silver "V" thing on Strong Bad's mask. The Spainish Inquisition 21:15, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Mushrooms

Homestar saying that Luigi tasted like Mushrooms is a reference to the Mushroom Powerups and overall mushroominess of all the Mario games.

Cubicle guy

Am I insane or is his head -significantly- too small to be a human head? Is that guy a puppet or something?

You may be insane. Or huge-headed. But that's speculative. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 10:08, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, whoever is insane: The picture seems to be taken with a wide-angle lens. What is closer, gets bigger (than normal), what is farer, gets smaller. And of course: Don't you think as well, the cubicle guy is Strong Badman? -Arjuna 11:43, 24 December 2006 (UTC)-
Ohhhh wide-angle lennns... I get that.

Change The Picture, You Guys

That lady creeps me out.

What? Not even The Cheat is scared by that ;-) Loafing 00:13, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Coach Z in the fizzoyay...

Should it even be noted that Coach Z pronounces foyer "foy-a" as opposed to "foy-er"? They're both perfectly valid.

Gron Sad's voice

Is it just me, or does Strong Sad's voice sound a bit odd in this one? It sorta sounds to me like Mike did the voice, maybe. The inflection is very different from usual and also the pitch, more like the one of the older style Strong Sads.

I agree. The first time I watched it, I thought maybe Strong Bad was doing an impression of him, since it didn't really sound like something Strong Sad would actually say. Shwoo 07:39, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Maybe that's what he sounds like after losing weight. I don't know. It's all speculative. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 10:04, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I remember they said on one of the commentaries that sometimes Mike will do Strong Sad, because Matt can't do it right if his voice is strained at all. So that's probably all this is. But like Qermag said, it's still just speculation. Exhibit A (talk · edits) 16:50, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

"Margie"

I don't think that SB saying "Margie" is a mistake. If you look closely, you can see that the Marshie costume has eyelashes for no apparent reason, making it look like a female version of Marshie. SB saying "Margie" is just poking fun at that, not an {sic}. Zero.exe 17:48, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

No, I agree that it's intentional, but I think the {sic} is there to let people know that it's not a mistake. Trey56 17:52, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
