transcript

If it is still up for grabs I will do the transcript at 1pm eastern time (1 hour). I've never gotten to do one before. I R F 16:53, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Could I get Easter Eggs? I don't really care if I don't, however. Bluebry 16:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
It's still up for grabs. Put up {{transcriptinprogress}} if you start. —BazookaJoe 16:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Ima work on Easter Eggs, so, I'd REALLY appriciate it if no one editied that section. Bluebry 16:57, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I couldn't find any Easter eggs, Bluebry... —BazookaJoe 17:10, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah...I noticed... Bluebry 17:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey, is anyone doing the Cast/place thing? Bluebry 17:17, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey Invisible Robot Fish, I got started on the transcript before I read the above message (I couldn't figure out why no one had started — sorry). It's 1PM EST now, do you want to do the other half? Trey56 18:06, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Adding in this possible goof

  • During old timey short, the rat pile moves and gets lighter after homestar says "the most sanitary time of year"

I am unsure if intentional but the position of camera stays the same --68.47.9.181 17:29, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

It's most likely intentional. Old-Timey cartoons are riddled with characters and props moving, showing primitive video editing. - Joshua 19:32, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Coach Z's Butt

Coach Z's butt is abnormally big, but does that mean it should be listed on Big Butt? That article is strictly talking about mentions of the phrase "big butt". I feel it should be listed somewhere, since it involves both Coach Z and a butt (an apparent fixation of his). I feel we need to merge Butt-Patting into a new article with more than just patting and grabbing. Coach Z's Butt Habit or sommat? —FireBird|Talk 17:52, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

I think the abnormal largeness is for comical/visibility reasons, not because Coach Z has an abnormally large butt. Bluebry 18:33, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I was talking more along the lines of, "Coach Z is shown yet again with something involving butts, I think we should list it somewhere." But where? —FireBird|Talk 03:03, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Hmm...well, what about Coach Z's page? You know, Coach Z? Maybe as a section with links to various butt-related articles... Bluebry 03:05, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
This might be kind of a stretch, but way back on '04 some time, there was a sketchbook picture of Coach Z with the same kind of abnormally large butt. Anybody think this is worth mentioning? Kahteh 19:10, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

you can't do that on television

I pretty sure the Decemberween Short Shorts is suppose to be parodying you can't do that on television. The style and everything is really similar...

It says it was a Canadian show. Did it air in the US? If not, methinks TBC don't even know what it is. Bluebry 23:58, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm American, and I'm vaguely familiar with the show (it was on Nickelodeon when I was a wery young. TBC are a few years older than me.) That said, I doubt that it's a reference. --Jay (Talk) 00:04, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
I'll add: 1) I'm a little older than TBC, and I clearly remember the show. 2) TBC have definitely seen the program, I'll bet... this pen! 3) I agree that this isn't likely to be an intentional reference. YCDTOT was a fun show but they didn't invent the style they used. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 00:07, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
TBC have referred to the program before, but I doubt this is a reference for the reasons suggested above. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 00:17, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
On YCDTOT there was this one bit that they had, that they basically stole from Laugh-in (which I am convinced was referenced in Resolutions), where the cast's faces would pop out of lockers one at a time, speaking to another cast member in another locker for short two-person jokes. This seems to be the basis of the ornaments short.
I disagree...Bluebry 04:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
As do I. See the ends of many Halloween toons for the precedent within TBC's own style. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:14, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Venusy is probly right, the ornament short was suppose to be a parody of the joke wall from laugh in.

I thought it could be a parody of Charlie Brown and Simpsons Christmas specials that were composed of little shorts. Bad Bad Guy 17:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Homestar's Helmet

Is it just me, or is that a cricket helmet Homestar was was wearing when he came into the locker room? Having seen them a few times, that's what it looks like to me. If it is, then it should be a Real World Reference. Plus, Coach Z's sports are huge mash-ups anyway, why not add an international sport (as long as its not soccer).

I totally buy it — and that makes a lot more sense than a hardhat with a mouthguard, which is what I thought when I watched it. Trey56 01:49, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Though, the hardhat-with-mouthguard is kinda in keeping with the mangled "sports" they all play, with equipment and devices from a variety of sports and non-sports all mixed up together. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:01, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Homestar's Wiggly Dancing

I don't recall seeing Homestar do this wiggly dancing before outside of the nobot easter egg in the sbemail "What I Want." Is this an inside reference?

Methinks not. I think they just needed some strange/stupid/pie?/obscure dance to put in there. Bluebry 02:17, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Isn't that the butt dance from the sbemail "bottom 10"? Dramus 04:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Doesn't look like it. In all the other instances of Homestar dancing I remember, including in "bottom 10," he picks his feet up and steps rhythmically like he's playing Dance Dance Revolution.
I dont see anything the same as the what I want easter egg.--X66x66 04:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
see, different
The only similarity is the fact that his legs are wiggling, not how. It can't be a reference. Bluebry 04:15, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Then why is it one currently?--X66x66 00:03, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Picket Fence

In Hoosiers, as I recall the Picket Fence wasn't used to win the championship game. It was used to win an earlier, regular season game.

Tube socks and Cosby Show

The first time I saw the tube socks as a gift, I thought of the final episode of the Cosby Show in which Theo gets tube socks as a gift from Kenny for his graduation. Not sure if this could be considered a reference, but I can't think of any other pop-culture references to someone getting tube socks as a gift. I just thought I'd mention it.

I think it's just making fun of how bad a gift of tube socks are. Bluebry 20:45, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Its probobly just making fun of how bad a gift socks in general are, they just chose tube socks because it was the first thing they tought of (probobly). Xifihas 21:08, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Local gentry

"The local gentry" has to be a reference to the song "Love and Marriage." I don't know who wrote the song, but it is most associated with Frank Sinatra. It was also used as the theme to "Married With Children." "Ask the local gentry, and they will say it's elementry."

OK, the song was written by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen. I can't quite figure out what a gentry is, though. Oh, and sign your posts. --Jnelson09 19:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Um, maybe I'm being stupid because "gentry" in your post is linked to a wikipedia article defining it, but I'm gonna go ahead.

Gentry is a general term for the wealthy, especially the wealthy with good manners and graces. Or snobbery, depending on how you look at it. --Eowyn 2 13:43, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, I couldn't decipher the Wikipedia article. --Jnelson09 17:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

reused song?

Did anyone notice that Homestar's song had the exact same beat and sound to the bass beat in Strong Bad's laserdisc song from lady...ing? KKyuubi 21:10, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Homestar's Halloween Costume Question

This is yet another instance of Homestar's traditional question "So ____, I like your _____ costume!"

Strong Sad's Death

Could the Strong Sad ornament falling off the tree be a reference to Strong Sad's imaginary death? The Big Eye 20:50, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I think so... Let's wait for more feedback, though. kai lyn 20:54, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Sounds like it to me. --Kiwi 18:44, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Yep. I agree. TheYellowDart(t/c)

Goof... or is it?

Uh...when the chalkboard says "Wouds" i think it refers to Homestar's impediment and is NOT A GOOF! user.gif user.gifDevonM(talk·cont-ribs) — 63.230.104.26 (Talk | contribs) 00:43, 21 December 2006 (left unsigned)

You're absolutely right — I removed it. Trey56 03:27, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
The goof is about words moving, not about them being spelled wrong. I put it back on. Loafing 03:35, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
So it is — Good call. Trey56 10:01, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Handwriting

When Strong Bad writes his letter, the words on the paper he's writing on (not the one at the top) are illegible. When Strong Sad does this, they're legible. Retromaniac 03:52, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Strong Sad's handwriting differs from Strong Bad's, and as such will... differ. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
It actually appears to be a deviation of Edwardian Script, but that's just from Strong Bad is in Jail Cartoon. I should probably get around to adding that to Fonts. — Lapper (talk) 13:31, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Why'd she do it?

Why did Old-Timey Marzipan have Rumble Red meet his untimely demise? I'm sure that's not a Decemberween tradition. I'm sure the other Rumble Colors will probbably try and harm Old-Timey Marzipan. But still, WHY'D SHE DO IT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Because...I don't know about YOU, but I, personally, find Rumble Red to be ever-so-slightly annoying, and based on The Homestar Runner's reaction to him showing up on Decemberween, I'd say they share my opinion. Translation: He unpopular. --Kiwi 16:40, 22 December 2006
Doesn't he represent some unliked alien from the Flinstones (as well as the later years of the Soviet Union, when it was getting weak)? If so, the old-timeys are right to hate him. If the Flinstones guy is who I think he is, then he was the jump the shark moment for the serries, and I think it ended shortly after him. It could be that, or just a representation of wesern hatred of communism during those times (although I think we liked them during the depression). In conclusion, I'm probobly overthinking this. He's probobly just suppost to annoy everyone else for shiggles. Dramus 04:35, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
The Flintstones guy was The Great Gazoo, and from what I read, yes, he was a shark-jumper and the series ended shortly after his arrival. (I can see why...Remember when they had Marshmallow Pebbles? Gazoo did the commercial, and he was annoying.) Traditionally in old cartoons, aliens represented communists or whatever, I think you're right about that. There's no such thing as overthinking!! (We better be careful, though, or Red could turn into a TTATOT...) --Kiwi 18:41, 31 December Barely-2006 (UTC)
I don't get it either, but it really creeps me out. --Jnelson09 03:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Cosmic Joy or Gobs of Joy?

I heard Rumble Red say Gobs of Joy. Retromaniac 21:49, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I just rewatched it and I distinctly hear Cosmic. The hard K sound is very pronounced. -Kiwi 13:28, 23 December 2006
Yes, it's distinctly "cosmic". --DorianGray

Bare Necessities

The song Homestar sings reminds me of Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book. Retromaniac 07:03, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Put it in STUFF and see what people think.--X66x66 23:23, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it'd have much of a chance. It sounds very different to me. Loafing 23:26, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I don't know how to STUFF it, and it sounds somewhat similar. Especially the "creepy and depressing all the time" part.
Either way, it was already STUFF'd and declined quickly, unanimous "against" votes. --DorianGray

number of deaths in one short?

well, besides the teen girl squad, have there ever been any more than one actual death in a toon? -undeforted csours 02:47, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Arguably in That A Ghost. (They look dead even if they don't act the part. --Jay (Talk) 03:44, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
This is probably the first time a character other than TGS was murdered successfully. --Jnelson09 18:09, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
And gruesomely. --DorianGray
Yeah, gruesomely. --Jnelson09 18:26, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Keep in mind old cartoons could get away with stuff like that...And that the characters always come back in those old cartoons, even after getting run over by a steamroller or whatever. *Is reminded of Tom and Jerry* --Kiwi 18:37, 31 December almost-not-2006 (UTC)

Problems

If Coach Z collects problems, surely that means he has More Than Two?

See Spin 'n Say... Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:26, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

"King of Town Ornament"

Am I the only one who thinks it should be "King of Town Stocking"? I mean, that's what it is. Strong Bad's "stuff you fulla coal" remark seemed to tip it off that he was a stocking, what do you think about this? --TotalSpaceshipGirl3 16:16, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

It's still an ornament... an ornament shaped like a stocking, but ornamental nonetheless... --phlip TC 16:24, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

closed STUFF

To bedazzled, or not to bedazzled

The Strong Bad ornament bedazzling the Strong Sad ornament off the tree may be a reference to the Bedazzler, which uses cheap, shiny plastic beads much like the Strong Bad ornament.

Any opninons on my thought that it might be making fun of the Peanuts and Simpsons Christmas shorts? Bad Bad Guy 23:31, 19 March 2007 (UTC) double post

Additional Real-World Reference?

It might be too late to STUFF, but are there any opninons on my thought that it might be making fun of the recent Peanuts and Simpsons Christmas shorts? Bad Bad Guy 23:32, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

It's never too late to STUFF. I'm not really sure what you're getting at, though. --Jnelson09 04:45, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

The specials I was referring to were "Charlie Brown Christmas Tales," which ABC shows after "A Charlie Brown Christmas" to fill the rest of the hour, and "Simpsons Christmas Stories," which I saw in 2005. I was trying to say that Homestar was trying to copy what appeared to be a fad of Christmas specials composed of shorts, like best thing copying the fad of cartoons in space. Bad Bad Guy 18:29, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I see. I don't know about the former, and I don't think the latter fits. That's just me, though. Go for it. --Jnelson09 21:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
There have always been Christmas specials and there always will be. It's not a fad. Loafing 21:10, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
I meant Christmas specials composed of shorts. Not the general kind. Bad Bad Guy 21:45, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Did you really think I didn't know there were always Christmas specials? (Rankin-Bass, the producers of Rudolph, is another of my obsessions) Bad Bad Guy 21:53, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
First off, this is a spin-off of the original Summer Short Shorts, not a reference to a TV show. And I doubt it's a reference to The Simpsons (considering that episode had 7 minute shorts, and this TOON is less than 7 minutes long). I dunno about that Peanuts one, though; I've never seen it and I don't wanna try hunting down a reference. Bluebry 21:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Loafing, were you calling me stupid or did you read my post wrong? Bad Bad Guy 22:10, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Magic helmet

Homestar puts his helmet in his locker, but a mere three minutes later, it's back in his... erm... hands. Is this a goof? TJDevil02
