Wouldn't this be grouped in with some of the food-related bullets in the Financial section? The fact that he doesn't get promised "three square meals a day" and that he can't afford "money cost" ice cream would imply that he's going to eat awful food for the sake of food. I'm probably just being nitpicky by this point, but I don't know if it's necessarily "miscellaneous".

OK, I initially thought that Coach Z was just delusional as a throwaway gag  in Garage Sale when he talked about being a mom, but Bubs also brought Coach Z’s apparently functional womb up in Flash is Dead. Is it still one of Coach Z’s problems if the other characters acknowledge that he can have babies? Maybe he’s just trans and it’s never elaborated on?

Also, I’m not really sure that “Asked Homestar to marry him” should be listed under psychological problems. Being bi on its own I sn’t a psychological problem. Maybe move it to the anti-social behavior list? 68.49.74.169 11:39, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

This is more a general response to this section than any individual point; I'm going to try and phrase this sensitively... I would generally advise against reading too much into the gender or sexual identities of the dumb animal characters based on a few gags. The characters don't have strictly defined identities, in sort of a Three Stooges or Looney Tunes manner where their general personalities stay the same but trying to nail down 'canon' like age, relationship history, jobs, and such is really just not how the body of work is structured.<br>

On a metatextual level: The vast majority of Homestar Runner was written and produced during the 00s, pre-Obergefell v. Hodges, in a very different cultural landscape. Something commonplace today like asking someone about "their pronouns" was unheard of; on the flip side, it was common for the only mention of homosexuality in a show or movie to be a passing remark that Gay#Generalized pejorative use. It's not my place to speculate about The Brothers Chaps' stance on LGBTQ issues now or then (I will note a 2005 interview where they state that they don't do "gay bashing"), I'm just saying that it's important to not look at a throwaway gag from 2005 about a guy making mom jokes through a modern lens I think either reading it as affirmative ("this is representation of a transmasc nonbinary gender identity") or homophobic ("any man acting like a woman is a delusional freak") is reading too much into a gag where the punchline is just "cartoon man does something incongruous". Similar to how Stinkoman eating dirt isn't an indication he suffers from Pica (disorder), it's just a cartoon character doing something goofy, I'd advise against overanalyzing Coach Z's lady-type jokes as a serious or 'canonical' examination of his gender. -- 19:18, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

Okay, don't get me wrong, I think this page is great. But don't you think this is opinionated? I mean, the page is titled "Coach Z's Problems". And I'm pretty sure that, apart from talk pages and user pages, we are NOT supposed to put opinions in pages in the Homestar Runner Wiki. I like this page, don't get me wrong, but is anyone else getting the same feeling? Your helpful user,

Ding! Coach Z's Problems is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

[edit] Consensus of Creation?

Was there ever a consensus—or even a discussion— to separate this from Coach Z? Personally, I'm neutral to whether this page should stand on it's own, but it just seems odd that nothing was discussed before separating it. StrongAwesome 01:07, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

There was not. I personally think it's probably long enough for it to be separate. — Defender1031*Talk 18:56, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
I could probably go either way. It's a distinct enough topic that linking to a separate page is probably easier than linking to a section, so I'm fine with leaving it on its own page. — It's dot com 19:21, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm with DeFender. It's long enough to stay as it is. SteakStyles 20:14, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Hand-Eye Coordination?

i dont think that having bad hand-eye coordination is really a medical condition. theres lots of people out there with no hand-eye cooridination whatsoever. SteakStyles

It's certainly a problem though, especially for a coach... I wouldn't mind it being moved to a more appropriate section. — Defender1031*Talk 20:20, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
none of them see to really fit, though. SteakStyles
Miscellaneous doesn't fit? Isn't that what it's for? — Defender1031*Talk 22:26, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
yeah i guess that could work. SteakStyles 12:52, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Color Blindness

In Fall Float Parade Coach Z said Strong Sad was yellow! Is he color blind or something? I mean, he doesn't look yellow to me. 72.161.149.114 23:03, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Awful Food

For the miscellaneous bullet:

 • Even when he finds he's eating something awful, he still eats it.

Atari 01:54, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Coach Z is Here and Queer and we need to fix the list because of it

I'm sure the subject of Coach Z's alleged reproductive capacities is merely a gag but asking Homestar to marry him should be moved. Guybrush20X6 14:27, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
I agree, but I think we shouldn't have it listed as a "problem" anyways? Since when is being bi or pan antisocial? -MeowMeow

This is more a general response to this section than any individual point; I'm going to try and phrase this sensitively... I would generally advise against reading too much into the gender or sexual identities of the dumb animal characters based on a few gags. The characters don't have strictly defined identities, in sort of a Three Stooges or Looney Tunes manner where their general personalities stay the same but trying to nail down 'canon' like age, relationship history, jobs, and such is really just not how the body of work is structured.
On a metatextual level: The vast majority of Homestar Runner was written and produced during the 00s, pre-Obergefell, in a very different cultural landscape. Something commonplace today like asking someone about "their pronouns" was unheard of; on the flip side, it was common for the only mention of homosexuality in a show or movie to be a passing remark that something undesirable was "so gay". It's not my place to speculate about The Brothers Chaps' stance on LGBTQ issues now or then (I will note a 2005 interview where they state that they don't do "gay bashing"), I'm just saying that it's important to not look at a throwaway gag from 2005 about a guy making mom jokes through a modern lens — I think either reading it as affirmative ("this is representation of a transmasc nonbinary gender identity") or homophobic ("any man acting like a woman is a delusional freak") is reading too much into a gag where the punchline is just "cartoon man does something incongruous". As explained in the lede, Main Page 11 and Who Said What Now? set up that he has "problems", with the Coach additionally stating in Decemberween Short Shorts that he "collects" problems.
