Concerning the recent additions of variations from [[dictionary]]: I don't think those are suitable for this article. A running gag like this is really built on the humour established by repetition, so using completely different wording as in the dictionary examples pretty much breaks the gag. The context is also not really the same, since it's not a case of Homestar being blatantly stupid with his money. So I don't think those examples should be included here. {{User:Heimstern Läufer/sig}} 05:08, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Frivolous Spending

I bet this page could be modified & expanded to include all instances of Homestar Runner wasting his money. I'm far too lazy to count them all right now, but examples that stick in my head are buying four ("three for $300") wireless extension cords in technology, and his tax return from Arcade Game. After all, what's funny about the running gag (to me, anyway) is not the catch phrase, but the insane ways in which he drops cash. -- Mayosolo 02:45, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Write a brief article, research some more and maybe we'll marge the two together. Go for it. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 08:48, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

It's a major stretch just to write an article on it. Homestar barely talks about his money and it's just littering the wiki. Let's do some spring cleaning. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

Keep. It's a bona fide inside joke / running gag. It happened 3 times over the course of 6 months, from Nov 2003 to May 2004. I guess you had to be there to appreciate it. This was actually one of the first (20) pages that I stumbled upon when I discovered the wiki, and I was delighted to see it documented. —BazookaJoe 05:20, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

C'mon, this was never intended to be analyzed. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chaps didn't even notice that they were using the same kind of phrase for Homestar multiple times. It's barely even a "running gag." Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
Darth, none of H*R was ever meant to be analysed. That doesn't mean we can't do it. And I doubt that the repetition was unintentional: each time, the context is very similar (Homestar unwisely spending money on things). Anyway, I definitely vote keep. Heimstern Läufer 08:57, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
