Revisiting way-too-long later {{--}} it seems like BMW Zippos did exist at some point prior to the release of [[guitar]]. Although a lot of resale listings vaguely offer that it is "vintage" (side note: are we to the point where something from 2002 can be considered "vintage"? yeesh... anyways) many specify a date well before the sbemail, such as [https://picclick.com/Rare-Pre-1970s-BMW-Zippo-Lighter-in-Box-Excellent-192789758992.html "Pre-1970's"], [https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-70s-zippo-lighter-bmw-motorcycle-luftmeister "70s"], [https://www.ebay.com/itm/334510509593 "1983"], [https://picclick.com/Vintage-Ultra-Rare-Hard-To-Find-1994-Zippo-Lighterbmwcar-222953574926.html "1994"] to the point where it's beyond a reasonable doubt that these were at some point available. Whether they could be easily found in 2002, well, that's another story. --{{User:Bleu Ninja/sig}} 02:36, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

To revisit this discussion, do we really need the entire gallery of pictures?  I think a couple of the lighter, plus the two variations (say, like, 5 pics total) would be sufficient.  Maybe one more of the unmarked SBG4AP lighter.  Barring that, the captions on the current gallery are pretty lame.  Are there any alternatives? -[[Special:Contributions/170.223.0.54|170.223.0.54]] 21:15, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Further to [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=BMW_Lighter&diff=633857&oldid=633845&rcid=592753 this edit], I was incorrect to say that it is speculation to assume the logo is on both sides. Ding! BMW Lighter is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

[edit] Real Lighter

I found a real lighter on Ebay, so I'm not sure what "no physical counterpart" means. - Dr Haggis - Talk 20:19, 26 Feb 2005 (MST)

Update: A quick search on eBay yields about 90 auctions for a BMW lighter currently. I wonder how many of these auctions would not even exist if it weren't for Homestar Runner? —THE PAPER PREEEOW 18:39, 12 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I actually bought one of these after Drhaggis brought it to my attention in February. I got one of the ones that looks like Strong Bad's and my plan was to take a photo for this page. The thing is pretty much just a silver colored Zippo ripoff with a BMW logo glued on it. I still want to take a photo, but I'd have to find the thing first. I thought I knew where it was, but I can't find it. Hmm. -- Tom 20:33, 12 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I found a pic of a real BMW lighter, but, as I said, my **** computer won't let me upload images. — talk Bubsty edits 02:53, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Revisiting way-too-long later — it seems like BMW Zippos did exist at some point prior to the release of guitar. Although a lot of resale listings vaguely offer that it is "vintage" (side note: are we to the point where something from 2002 can be considered "vintage"? yeesh... anyways) many specify a date well before the sbemail, such as "Pre-1970's", "70s", "1983", "1994" to the point where it's beyond a reasonable doubt that these were at some point available. Whether they could be easily found in 2002, well, that's another story. -- Bleu Ninja 02:36, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

[edit] Image Overuse?

Are all these images really nessecary? Why not something like this or this? I think that the debut and CGI images are enough for this page. - Joshua 00:30, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Oh, my goodness, seconded! That's a long freakin' page for a 2"-square object! —AbdiViklas 01:10, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
The article is like this because back when it was started, there were only three appearances. I don't have a problem with the images. If you don't like the layout, we could probably but them in a nice gallery. -- Tom 01:53, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

I think that if it has a lot of appearances (like somewhere 1round 12 or 13) we should take some of the images away, just because it would be too long. I like it this way. --SaltyTalk! 01:34, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

It has nine images. That is too many. Most pages like this have only one image, two max. - Joshua 01:40, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
I've put the images in a gallery. -- Tom 04:54, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Still a little bit unnessecary, expecially with the text sighting (which has an actual sighting in the same email). But I'm not going to fight to get rid of it. Now I just gotta get enough free time to make the appearances in a format similar to this page's. - Joshua 04:57, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
That improves the aesthetics of the page immensely. —AbdiViklas 05:29, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Nah. If anything, The first appearance of the BMW lighter should be in there too. The BMW lighter is a specific object, unlike duct tape. -RadSkat3 18:56, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

The first appearance is in the thumbnail image at the top of the page. -- Tom 22:23, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
I liked it the other way, but this way works too. — talk Bubsty edits 05:07, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] SAAB lighter

so, should homestar's lighter be a separate page? i think it should. i mean, the saab lighter might appear again, and when it does, we should be prepared. Seriously 00:09, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Well, for now, the SAAB lighter has only appeared once, and if it does, maybe we should consider changing the article to just "Lighters" instead. Has Matt? (talk) 00:25, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Both sides?

Further to this edit, I was incorrect to say that it is speculation to assume the logo is on both sides. This is proof that that assumption is just flat-out wrong. — Defender1031*Talk 09:23, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
