An official name?

Taken from the store, regarding the new "Everybody! Everybody!" poster: "All of your favorite characters are here from A, Arrow'd guy to Y, Yello Dello and everyone in between." Does everyone else consider this to be a good enough source? I'm afraid I don't know how to go round editing these. (That's to say I think I do but I know I'll screw something up.) Psi 02:59, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Considering TBC maintain that store, I think it's safe to change TMWTHM's name. --Gafaddict 20:07, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

thefreakyblueman-- I made the animated GIF over there. w00t

Would anyone object if this article were moved to Arrow'd Guy? It's better to use TBC-official names. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 17:09, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Go for it. (I wish there were a punctuation mark between a period and an exclamation point; that's what I would have used in that sentence.) — It's dot com 17:35, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Maybe an exclamation point without the period? Or would that make it more enthusiastic? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 18:02, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I meant that I wanted to be supportive of the project, but not weirdly so. "Go for it." didn't seem like enough, but "Go for it!" seemed like too much. I tried to move the page myself, but I can't delete the old redirect page. — It's dot com 18:09, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I just feel difficult in wanting to keep TMWTHM, since Arrow'd Guy just refers to his first appearance, but, hey. TBC did use it. -- Mithent 19:35, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm all for leaving it put, because "Arrow'd" DOES only refer to his first appearance. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:05, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Um, at this point you're all for changing it back. All the links have been converted; we're just waiting for the old Arrow'd Guy page to be deleted so this page can be moved there. — It's dot com 20:14, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The page hasn't moved yet. Anyway, you know what I mean. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:15, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm just saying that no articles point to this page anymore, and leaving it where it is is no longer the path of least resistance. — It's dot com 20:20, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm not talking from a path of least resistance point of view. This character doesn't have a REAL official name (Arrow'd Guy is just as much a name as The Man with the Huge Mouth) and "Arrow'd Guy" covers only one of his eight/nine appearances. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 20:23, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Three things:
  1. As an official name goes, "The Man with the Huge Mouth" is cumbersome, arbitrary, and made up by us.
  2. "Arrow'd Guy" is actually a useful descriptive term. As in, he's the guy who's always killing the TGS girls, and when he does they're "NOUN'd" in some way.
  3. When choosing between the two names, we'd might as well use the one TBC use. We're not talking about a passing reference in an interview or anything—when they made their poster, at some point they had to ask themselves, "Is this what we really want to call this guy?" They had the chance to give him a name, and they did.
It's dot com 20:57, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Note that the poster does not reference his first appearance (i.e. he's shown mouth closed & no arrows), and yet he is referred to as Arrow'd Guy. -- tomstiff 21:10, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I have to agree, but I'm biased because I never liked the name "The Man with the Huge Mouth". The guy on the poster has no arrows, and TBC still call him "Arrow'd Guy". That's official enough for me. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:45, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I very much agree with Aurora. —BazookaJoe 22:52, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Then, Aurora, would you delete the old Arrow'd guy so that we can move this page there (and preserve the histories). — It's dot com 22:55, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It's already been moved, right? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:48, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Yep. — It's dot com
Though not neccisarily an official name, "Arrow'd Guy" is the only name TBC have given us. I say it's best to go with any thing TBC give to us instead of making up our own. —FireBird|Talk 23:10, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
What about Visor Robot, AKA the "Fhqwhgads Robot"? It has an "official" alternate nickname but we don't use it either - and there's only one thing that makes it different from this (the "Visor Robot" predates any connection to Fhqwhgads.) --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:07, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I don't really want to open another can of worms here, but if TBC call the robot "the Fhqwhgads Robot," then I would support our calling him that, too. But that's a discussion for another day and another talk page. — It's dot com 06:40, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Well, since this one seems open and shut aside from my protests, and this was mentioned on Talk:Visor Robot, so be my guest. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:42, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'll move it I'll move it!--User:Alexie

Hi Alexie. The page already was moved. To its current name, Arrow'd Guy. Thanks anyway though. -- Tom

Actually, shouldn't it be "Arrowed" Guy, considering that's how it was spelt in the 'toon. 80.4.224.6 17:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

True, it's a reverse application of future usage. (But a reverse application that TBC made—see all the above discussion.) —AbdiViklas 18:34, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Real name?

Someone has been going around editing all the pages that say The Man with the Huge Mouth and changing it to "Spazo", claiming this to be TMWTHM's real name. I've reverted their edits for now, is there any evidence supporting the idea that his name is Spazo? --Kilroy 17:12, 26 Oct 2004 (MST)

No, there isn't any such evidence. Your reverts were prudent. Thanks. — InterruptorJones[[]]

Mrs. So-and-So-Erson/Man with the Huge Mouth

I'm still not entirely convinced that Mrs. So-and-So-Erson is actually The Man with the Huge Mouth. There's an obvious similarity in appearance, of course, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she is he. --TheNintenGenius 20:17, 19 Jan 2005 (MST)

Perhaps. But, 1. If not, then episode 8 really is the only TGS episode lacking MitHM. 2 It's funnier (IMHO) to think of them as the same character. I suppose only Strong Bad really knows for sure, though. Though I consider Mrs. SaSe's bald head and Adam's apple (look closely) to be VERY telling. --Jay 21:13, 19 Jan 2005 (MST)
It could just be playing off the expectations of seeing the MwtHM as well, making drawing Mrs. So-and-So-Erson like him very deliberate. Since it's all a matter of conjecture, though, I still wonder if it should be listed as cold hard fact. --TheNintenGenius 21:49, 19 Jan 2005 (MST)
Either way, Mrs. Sase is probably not really a woman. --Jay 13:12, 20 Jan 2005 (MST)
I'd agree that Mrs. SaSE isn't the MwtHM. Strong Bad and Stinkoman are similar, but that doesn't make them the same person. --Upsilon.
But then, the Thnikkaman and Bubs are similar, and they are generally accepted to be the same person. --Jay 13:54, 20 Jan 2005 (MST)
My point is that we can't assume they're the same just because the two of them are similar. It's pretty obvious that Bubs is the Thnikkaman, but how can we say for certain that SaSE=MwtHM? --Upsilon
What, it's not obvious to YOU? Mrs. Sase looks just like the MwtHM (with some accessories). Same nose, same bald head, same hairdo if you don't count the curls added to Mrs. Sase, same head shape, same tendency toward harming or mocking the girls - the only real difference is the mouth (and that could just be because Mrs. Sase is wearing a ton of lipstick.) I mean, just picture the Thnikkaman with the moustache he was originally supposed to have, and a purple shirt instead of orange, and that's about all the difference that exists between MwtHM and Mrs. Sase. I mean, how do YOU know that it isn't a Bubs lookalike? --Jay 10:53, 21 Jan 2005 (MST)
Tendency towards harming the girls? What, you mean like every other being in the TGS strips? And yeah, the Thnikkaman could be a Bubs lookalike for all we know, but since without the taped-on sign and sunglasses (both of which are merely accessories) he is identical to Bubs, it's fair to assume that they're the same person. Not the case with SaSE, whose curls and large lips distinguish her from MwtHM. Furthermore, there are two people who look like MwtHM in the Decemberween ep, so perhaps there are a lot of people in the TGS's world that look like that. --Upsilon
And I'm actually not so sure that it would be wrong to say that Strong Bad = Stinkoman, at least when they were first created. (Though they've sort-of co-existed more recently, such as in 3 Times Halloween Funjob.) MwtHM and Sase have yet to co-exist. --Jay 14:15, 20 Jan 2005 (MST)
So do the Poopsmith's shovel and Carol. Therefore, they are the same object...? --Upsilon
Totally different. (And there's probably and exception, but no reason to bother looking for it.) Regardless of their actual identities, Stinkoman was at least based off of Strong Bad very heavily. Similarly, Mrs. Sase was at least based off of MwtHG. --Jay 10:53, 21 Jan 2005 (MST)
I won't deny that. In fact, I may even go as far to say that she's a female equivalent. But to say that they are the same person is mere speculation. --Upsilon
Well, not so "female" (you see that Adam's Apple?) But yeah, I see where you're coming from. I still think they're meant to be one and the same, but we really have no evidence one way or the other. As long as we at least keep the fact that Mrs. Sase is based on MwtHM I won't complain to much. --Jay 11:38, 22 Jan 2005 (MST)
Well, I think it's best to agree to disagree here and keep the article NPOV. --Upsilon
Only reason I wrote it in, er, "POV" in the first place was because it was SO FRIKKING OBVIOUS (to me) that they really were supposed to be one and the same... I'm still surprised you guys disagree, but I'll live with it. --Jay 14:51, 25 Jan 2005 (MST)

Sense Mrs. So-and-So-Erson's status as The Man is now "maybe", should we bring back this declined fun fact? --Trogga 14:56, 9 Mar 2005 (MST)

You little brats best get a life

Would you guys get off this? You obbsessed people are fighting over whether a bald woman is a bald man or not! Get a life, y'all.

-Bri

Postal Service: And quit using abbreviations! Are you so lazy that you can not type easy words like the Man with the Huge Mouth and Missus So-and-So-Erson? Gosh, you bums!

1. This is a talk page. There is no rule stating we need to spell everything out on a talk page. And everyone knows who we mean when we type MwtHM and Mrs. Sase. On the main article pages, I would not dream of typing out "Mrs. Sase".
2. We're not fighting. We're debating.
3. This Wiki is devoted to giving quality information. Isn't it worth it to debate which information IS quality information?
4. Was this complaint REALLY worth not only a new heading, but a heading with a DUPLICATE NAME?! --Jay 03:22, 22 Jan 2005 (MST)
Not to mention that if you didn't want to see people obsessed with Homestar Runner, you probably shouldn't have come to the Homestar Runner Wiki. ;) *changes the title appropriately* --Upsilon
  • Well, I generally agree with you Postal Serivice, but It would take up so much more space on the page to type out the whole thing. Back to topic... I think that they are one and the same. If you removed the clearly faux lips and open her mouth then she'd look just like The Man with the Huge Mouth.→evin290 14:32, 23 Jan 2005 (MST)

I'm here to settle the argument once and for all!

  • Mrs. Sase (Mrs. So-and-so-erson) HAS to be the AG (Arrow's Guy)! How could that not be? Why would the AG appear in EVERY single issue (including the mini-issue in "HomestarRunner.com PAY PLUS") only to be excluded in issue#8? He's a Teen Girl Squad tradition. It's just like the Marzipan's Answering Machine tradition where Strong Bad ALWAYS leaves at least one prank call. Someone also said earlier on this talk page that since there were 2 AGs in issue#6, and that means that there are probably a lot of people who look like that, meaning that Mrs. Sase isn't the AG, despite how similar they look. Well I disagree. Sometimes, characters get duplicated for no real reason. In the holiday toon "Senorial Day", there are 2 Homestar Runners. In the sbemail "pizzaz", there are 2 Strong Bads. And in the puppet short "Everybody Knows It", there are 3 The Cheats. And also, for those people who say Mrs. Sase doesn't have a big mouth like the AG, it's because she has about 2 tons of lipstick on. If you removed the lipstick, along with the eyelashes and curls, she would look EXACTLY like the AG. Therefore, the AG and Mrs. Sase are the same person. Who here agrees with me? --Ian911299

Need pictures?

  • Does anyone else thing there needs to be a page/stub with all the pictures of Arrow'd Guy? Seeing as he's been used differently in every toon, I think he needs a pic and small description like the character evolution pages. Also, I think since he's the "Arrow'd Guy", I'd like the picture that's of him now (the cerebellum'd pic) to be changed to the picture that got him named Arrow'd Guy. Just adding my two cents. ~NFITC1 10:10pm 9/20/05
    • Go for it. You can make an image gallery, like on Strong Bad hurting Strong Sad. — It's dot com 03:12, 21 Sep 2005 (UTC)
      • I have a page and uncroped images (which will get converted soon) that I'd like to replace his main page. Should I submit it to someone? ~NFITC1 2:05pm 9/21/05
        • You upload them straight to the wiki. First, carefully look over the image use policy. Especially make sure all the images are high-quality, PNG-format files under 100 KB. Then, click on Upload file over at the left, find each file, give them each a good description (for example, "Arrow'd Guy as seen in Teen Girl Squad Issue 1"), and then follow the other directions on that page. To make a gallery, check out the code on Strong Bad hurting Strong Sad. I'll try to keep an eye on your progress if you need help or have any problems. — It's dot com
          • By the way, to sign your name, all you have to do is type four tildes, like this: ~~~~, and the system will automatically insert your name and a timestamp, like this: It's dot com 19:29, 21 Sep 2005 (UTC)
          • There. All the images are in a gallery at the bottom of the page. Let me know if issue 9's pic isn't acceptable. I have another one I can put in place of it. (And thanks for the tip with the tildes. I forgot about it. :) ) NFITC1 01:40, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
            • I really like the animated picture. But if they can't all be animated, I think none of them should be. (And I think if they were all animated, that would be too much.) Good prize on this gallery! — It's dot com 01:43, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
              • I liked the animation too, but I agree that if they can't all be then none should. :( Glad you like it, though. :) NFITC1 01:55, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Still reference MWTHM

There should still be a reference to the name Man with the Huge Mouth. Many fans still call him this, despite the name on the poster, and the paragraph is about his name and how we got it. It is also interesting historical information that should not be lost. 20X6 Homestar/1-Up is not a direct analogy, because 1-Up's name was definitively revealed several times in different locations; therefore any fan who still calls him 20X6 Homestar is just out-of-date. Arrow'd Guy is more of a gray area. — It's dot com 17:19, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Oh. I thought we didn't reference non-official stuff in a knowledge base. And Arrow'd Guy doesn't seem very "gray" to me. It's official, just not well known. - Joshua 17:38, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
We reference unofficial stuff all the time (cf. Horrible Painting's name), we just make it clear that it's unofficial. And Arrow'd Guy is only his official name because we interpreted TBC to be giving him a name with the poster, but as the discussion at the top of this page shows, the decision to move the page (which I support, by the way) was not without controversy. — It's dot com 17:44, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Whatever. I still disagree. {disappears in a puff of smoke} - Joshua 17:48, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
I 'gree with dot com. I see that something has been added about that earlier name. — talk Bubsty edits 21:44, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Is this possible?

For some reason, I think the Maniac in a Speedo might be the Arrow'd Guy. Just my opinion. --Cyrus from the HRFWiki

Probably not. Although he does dress up in other costumes. What does everyone else think? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 14:12, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Dartmouth and Arrow'd! guy

Hasn't anyone noticed that Dartmouth and the ARROW'D! guy are very similar? I think we might need to put that in.

Hasn't anyone noticed that this is speculation? I think we might need to NOT put that in. — Defender1031*Talk 23:13, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Have we even seen Dartmouth User:The-homsarrunner 3:07 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Nope, we never even saw Dartmouth, just the logo. Further, the Arrowed Guy does a lot more than just arrows. He also drives vans, sells spring rolls, pilots brains, helms boats, judges dives, appears beneath, masquerades as stepmothers, reviews plays, makes good drawings, practises voodoo, and babysits. Dartmouth, on the other hand, is likely just a one-trick pony. --DorianGray 23:22, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
