This page might actually have some potential merit... but it needs a better Commando name if we do keep it. And a reference to Old-Timey cartoons. But I'm not 100% sold, just musing. Thoughts? --Jay (Talk) 21:21, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

(edit conflict'd)Yup, if we don't already have an article for the concept of "toon/part of toon pretends to be older than it actually is" then this could be a useful page, but "Negative Time" isn't that indicative a name for that concept. I'm thinking about the difference between whether a cartoon is based on retroactive continuity, or if it's stylistically meant to look historical. That's where I ask if Cave Girl Squad and The Millionzoic Era count or not. -- 68.37.43.131 01:48, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Personally I was thinking that this page would be for things meant to be inserted into the body of work's own previous continuity, and done in a different style or with outdated elements to reflect that, not things meant to mimic styles external to H*R, nor things done in the current style. I maybe could've been clearer about that earlier. That was the impression that I got from the examples that were on the page up to this revision.

So Old-Timey, old comics, and highschool wouldn't count since they're imitating things external to H*R (rubber-hose cartoons, big-nosed newspaper comics, various including mystery-solving-teens-era Hanna-Barbera, respectively), while Teen Girl Squad Issue 7 and imaginary wouldn't count since they're done in their series' usual style, with just a change in characters' ages. But sb_email 22 and the "Strong Bad telling Homestar the story" component of The Homestar Runner Gets Something Stuck In His Craw would count because they're showing the computers as they were at the time they're set instead of they way they were when the toon was released. I'm on the fence with original since it's mostly done in the usual Lappy-era style, but has the sign that says "concessions by x" instead of the more modern "X CONCES5ION STAND". The page has just been moved to "Anachronistic Toons" with the reason being a "Popular request", but searching for that turns up no evidence of such popularity. What are people's thoughts about the page having this name? The Knights Who Say Ni 02:51, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Specific Scenes

Should there be a section for short scenes set in the past as well, even if the majority of the toon is set in the present-day? Or would that make the page too long? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 01:23, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

This is another oddity. We could mention all the scenes that were mentioned in origins or couch patch, because those are definitely flashback toons. But I'm also thinking about Strong Bad Emails where examples are provided that don't take place all in the same day. hiding is one example, with events taking place months apart. Or the bet, which occurred long before the email was received. They're anecdotal, but I wouldn't call them flashbacks. -- 68.37.43.131 01:48, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

I believe the original creator of this page intended it solely for cases of retroactive/historical continuity. I think there's a subtle difference between flashback toons and retroactive continuity that I can't put my finger on. But if we agree to expand the scope of the page, what will we call it? Redesign

I'm cool with tables. They can make tabular information look neater :) ;) Also, I like the inclusion of the real-world and in-world chronological information given that this is a timely article (bad pun). --Stux 18:53, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
