Monty Python
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Monty Python was a British '70s comedy troupe consisting of John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and formerly Graham Chapman and Terry Jones. They are best remembered for their TV show Monty Python's Flying Circus and for movies such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's Life of Brian, and Monty Python's the Meaning of Life. The Brothers Chaps pay tribute to these legends by referencing them in the Homestar Runner body of work.
Appearances
- The Heavy Lourde — Monty Python's Flying Circus had a similar running gag with a weight that said "16 TONS" on it.
- The House That Gave Sucky Treats — Homestar Runner saying Strong Bad's costume is the "Spanish Inquisition" is a reference to a Monty Python sketch of the same name, in which Michael Palin, Terry Jones, and Terry Gilliam were dressed in similar costumes.
- Parsnips A-Plenty — The "scene missing" gag is used in an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
- Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer — The Blue Knight's face guard slamming down over his face after he says his last line is reminiscent of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, in which Sir Bedevere's face guard slams down after he says many of his lines.
- Stinkoman 20X6 — "Prawn Salad" is a skit name from Monty Python's Flying Circus.
- Peasant's Quest Outtakes — Matt Chapman sounds very similar to Mr. Gumby when he has his wig forward.
- Sketchbook — On 2/16/06, the sketch is a drawing of The Poopsmith in an intimidating pose saying "None shall pass." This is a quote by The Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- Thy Dungeonman 3 — Just before you begin answering the hag's questions, she says "If ye answers questions three..." This is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, in which the old man at the Bridge of Death proclaims "Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see".
- Strong Badia the Free —
- In Country, if you attempt to cross a vacant Stone Bridge, Strong Mad will tell you "NONE SHALL PASS", in much the same way as the Black Knight tells Arthur from Holy Grail.
- The fish skeleton in the King of Town's castle is identified as an "ex-fish", referencing the line in the Dead Parrot sketch, "This is an ex-parrot".
- 8-Bit is Enough — Strong Bad's remark about the peasants starting a commune is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, specifically the scene in which Dennis explains that he and his fellow peasants are an anarcho-syndicalist commune.
- 2022 Costume Pack Now Available — Homestar dresses as The Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail after his arms have been cut off. He also tries to quote the knight after both arms have been cut off, with the line "It's just a flesh wound", but Strong Bad enforces the fact that Homestar's impediment keeps him from being able to.
