Transcript
{Fade in to the characters standing in the field at night. Strong Bad is, as usual, dressed in a more distinct costume with a different body shape. The text "Silhouettes are up early this year!" is visible in front of the characters. Crickets chirp. After several seconds, light music begins to play and Character 2 walks into the frame.}
STRONG BAD: {in a mock-relaxed voice} And here comes Character 2. It looks like he's stumbled upon... the pagan festival, that's right.
{Zoom in onto Character 2}
CHARACTER 2: Baseboardbaseboardbaseboardbaseboard.
STRONG BAD: What's that, Character 2? You'd like a costume as well?
CHARACTER 2: Ha-bo-mey-bo.
STRONG BAD: How about I give you... a garland of sweet thyme. {A garland of thyme pops onto Character 2's head, replacing his hat} That's right, look at that. You might even say that I just... gave you a thyme. That's right, far out.
{The silhouette of Ridley screeches, eats Character 2 (but not the garland of thyme), and flies at the camera with a whooshing sound}
STRONG BAD: Mode seven.
{The music fades out as the crickets resume}
Easter Eggs
- Decompiling the Flash file reveals a hidden message upon trying to remove the silhouettes. This teaser's message reads "can't see this on youtube".
Fun Facts
Trivia
- This was the earliest Halloween teaser, beating Halloween Safety by exactly two weeks. This is alluded to in the teaser text.
- The actual Halloween toon came out twenty-four days after this teaser, making this the longest span of time between the release of a Halloween teaser and its corresponding Halloween toon.
Remarks
- The teapot on Homsar's head is smaller than in the toon, and there is no empty space inside the handle, or between the teapot and the spout.
Inside References
- Character 2 and Strong Bad's soothing narration both originated in the Skills of an Artist episode Cartoon Characters and played a prominent role in the toon Characters from Yonder Website, which was released just over a week prior to this teaser.
- As in previous Halloween teasers, Strong Bad's silhouetted costume is very elaborate.
- Strong Bad gives Character 2 a thyme, which is also a reference to the Skills of an Artist in which Character 2 originated.
- The screeching noise the Ridley creature makes sounds a lot like that made by Mrs. Commanderson.
Real-World References
- Strong Bad appears in silhouette as Ridley from Metroid; specifically, his Super Metroid sprite.
- Mode 7 is a graphics mode used by the Super NES that allowed for rotational scaling and pseudo-3d graphical effects, such as Ridley flying toward the screen in Super Metroid. It was previously mentioned by Strong Bad in SBCG4AP Advertisement.
