Nifty stuff

The "Edit diff." feature sounds fortuitous. I'm not sure I understood the permalink business, though. —notstrongorbad 06:37, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

For instance, the current revision of the fanstuff Main Page is rev 119031. With 1.4 and earlier, it is not possible to have a link that would always display what was on the page at the time that you viewed it, as the current link in 1.4 just has an oldid of 0. That link will always take you to the current version, which may have been updated since the time you linked to the article. This is important when someone would want to cite an article for research and so forth. -- Tom 07:03, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
I'm looking forward to the 'Print' tab I've heard about. I'm always up for a new tab. And the move log sounds kinda nifty. I am gonna miss that maintenance page though, *sniff*. I fondly remember searching for double redirects. Is the upgrade probably gonna be finished by Monday morning, NA time? Or are we probably gonna be late updating the Wiki for the Monday update? Thunderbird 20:53, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
When no one was looking late last night, I did a complete dry run and everything worked as expected. It didn't take more than a few hours, and I think I'll be able to shave a few minutes off that because of some of the prepping I've been doing. I expect that everything will be done by Monday barring anything drastic happening. Who knows, I could have a dozen ninjas bust in through my window and I'd have to fight them off instead. -- Tom 21:01, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
What, you mean again? But I called them off the last time! Elcool (talk)(contribs) 21:05, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Just for the record, I was looking. But I didn't really see anything I understood. I'm pretty sure I didn't see any ninjas, though. (And yeah, that was prettydanglate, especially for EST; don't ask me why I was awake!) —notstrongorbad 21:19, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Don't forget pirates. Ninjas and Pirates. Well, looking forward to it. See all y'alls on the 1.5 flipside. Thunderbird 21:21, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Logo is messed up

While I am searching the wiki some times tho hrwiki logo in the top-left corner of the screen turns to the mediawiki flower logo with a message saying: "set #wgLogo to the URL parh to your own logo image". Is the hrwiki logo not set up properly? Matt 15:47, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Okay, that was a problem where the Wiki was in two places at once for a little while. I don't know how people made it into the "/new" directory, but this is all fixed now. -- Tom 16:16, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Images

A few images will not display correctly, but fixing them is simple. They just need to be re-uploaded.

20051007_broken_fanstuff_image_example.png

Steps to reupload image:

  1. Find broken image
  2. Go to image description page
  3. Click on direct image link. In the example to the right, this is "ZipZap_OldSchool.png".
  4. Save this image to your computer.
  5. Click on the "Upload a new version of this file" link on the image description page.
  6. Browse to the location that you saved the image and re-upload the file, making sure to click the "Save file" button when the upload warning appears.

Thanks. -- Tom 10:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

I've looked through Special:Newimages until 20050715203537 (or there abouts) and found the following. (The broken ones will appear as this image.) Feel free to pick up where I left off.

I'm having a problem with Image:1936 Strong Bad.png. There isn't a download link to the file, so I can't download it to re-upload it. Any ideas? --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif, 12:22, 9 October 2005 (BST)

Table of Contents

I know this sounds kind of petty, but the table of contents toggle link for every page is undefined and will not perform its script. — Lapper (talk) 13:59, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Okay, one user ran into this problem on the Fanstuff wiki. I think it might have something to do with your JavaScript settings. See this discussion for details. -- Tom 16:19, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
It's not a client-side problem. The scripts for the TOC link here are broken on so many levels I don't know where to begin...
  • The pages have the script
    if (window.showTocToggle) { var tocShowText = "show"; var tocHideText = "hide"; showTocToggle(); }
    and this has the function
    function showTocToggle(show,hide) {
    - it's not passing the parameters correctly to the function.
  • The showTocToggle function uses document.write() - in the age of DOM this is almost a capital offence for a site that tries to be standards compliant.
  • The showTocToggle function checks that the DOM functions exist and bails out of they don't. This makes the previous point even worse because it shows the writer knew about DOM. But then it fails to use them at all in the script.
However the corresponding fanstuff scripts work properly - perhaps you could just copy the function over? --phlip TC 17:17, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
I'd love to try that, but the functions look exactly the same in those two files. I don't get it... -- Tom 17:35, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Hmm, it seems someone copied it over already... might have been a caching issue at my end. Though I swear when I checked as I wrote that post the script for this site looked something like
function showTocToggle(show,hide) {
  if (document.getElementById) {
    document.write("something... I forget exactly what, but it wasn't working");
  }
}
--phlip TC 17:40, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Okay, so it's some kind of cache problem then. Good investigating Philip, thanks. -- Tom 17:46, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Can't log in

This is mibluvr13 here and I can't seem to log in. I kept typing mibluvr13, but it acted like there was no such username. So I put my password in twice and my email and made a "new" username, which showed up as Mibluvr13. Help?

This is computerdude33. I'm having the exact same "no username found" error.
My user name is red, there's nothing in it, and I acidently clicked the email me a new password and the one that was sent doesn't work!--bkmlb
Okay, I feared this happening. Users with lowercase first letters can no longer login. I don't think there's any way I can fix this. There should be a way that I can transfer your contribs to another username, I think, but I'm going to have to look into that. Sorry. -- Tom 16:24, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
But, Bkmlb is a troll impersonator, so what should I do?--bkmlb
You have any other username ideas? -Computerdude33
Okay, now, I'm Bkmlb. with the period. --Bkmlb. 16:42, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Can we now move our old pages to new pages?--Bkmlb. 16:50, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Sure. -- Tom 17:14, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
If you want to nip that 'period at the end of your name' in the bud, give JoeyDay a ring, and get him to delete the 'Bkmlb' username. I would think Tom could do it too, but they're your only two options, I think. Thunderbird 17:22, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

One way to fix this would be to go into the database and edit any user with a lowercase first letter's user_name field and capitalize the first letter. - porplemontage

Hmm. Hey Steve, you up for being the test case for this one? -- Tom 17:32, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Go for it. -porplemontage
Okay, you are now "Porplemontage" in the database and you should be able to login without a problem. Now it should be as simple as moving your userpage to the new name, me thinks. -- Tom 17:49, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Main Page

Some thing's happened to the Main Page. I'd say trolling, but its protected. The "templates" are all messed up, but I'm checking again. -FaceCrap 15:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

In the last minute, things have really gotten messed up! It's as if the site's being pulled into a reality warping vortex! ABORT!! -FaceCrap 15:28, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Okay, maybe not. I still better go. Maybe. -FaceCrap 15:31, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
There's some discussion here leading me to believe that at one point many of the templates pointed to a directory called "new" for some time. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 15:33, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Ah! Almost all of the sbemail links are red!!--bkmlb (password problem, not logged in)
This is also because you guys ended up in the "/new" directory some how. It's fixed now, as you can't get there any more. -- Tom 16:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Capitalisation

I think I've pinpointed a source to one of the problem: everything that begins with a lowercase letter is being sent to a version with a capital letter. So, for example, the email 'pom pom' redirects to 'Pom pom' (which is his character page. It even affects users (which may be why some people can't log in). I'm sure you've noticed this yourself, but I thought I'd point it out anyway. Just to help. --DorianGray
