We're simply following the example of Wikipedia, but if a lot of people want to get rid of the "experimental edits" section, I have no problems with dumping it. However, I think it's a good way for newcomers to get that "I can edit any page" experience. It might be a little discouraging if there's a page that says "You can edit any page" and they can't edit that page. Does that make sense? — Joey (talk·edits) 17:20, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

I think a simple "You can edit this page as much as you want (in fact, you can edit any article!)" would be fine. Plus, it doesn't look very nice to have this nice introduction box and then all this jibberish at the bottom. →FireBird|_(Talk)

At the risk of starting a protect / unprotect war, I've unprotected this page and added a new header above the test edits. Again I would point you to Wikipedia's Introduction in support of keeping this page unprotected. I really think allowing users to make their first edit right here on this page is important to give them the feeling they are free here. Telling them they can edit any page and then not letting them edit this one seems a little counterintuitive. — Joey (talk·edits) 00:11, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Only for a little while...

Just for the time being, shouldn't we put that you can only edit articles if you are logged in? I know you used to be able to do it, logged in or not, but for right now, shouldn't we just put that there? ♥ _tee^eff_oh!

I think the note that appears at the top of every single page might give an idea of what's going on. I think that's enough, and the usual is what's described here. The note lets people know that its not the norm. -- Tom 20:38, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

The method

How does this page work? By that, I mean how do we get all that at the top of the page without any coding whatsoever in relation to it when editing? SuperfieldCreditUnion

Redesign

On the fanstuff wiki I had made a tab template that looks similar to the one used here, although in my opinion, the tab template looks better and is easier to use then the current one. Perhaps we can redesign this page using the tab template. --Kanjiro talk 05:18, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Define "anyone"

.....I am so concerned about the whole "edit anytime whether you are logged in or not" statement. Ever since my brother entered the knowledge base, I'm telling you, he started editing nonsense that is very inappropriate. Maybe we should edit the text so that Wiki users (innocent or guilty) will see the truth and not actually go onto the Wiki itself and start editing and texting pointless paraphernalia. That way, the Wiki will be safe without any doubt. Thank you. -Ümläut76 (The C Zone · Talk here!)

Yeah, when someone breaks the rules too badly, they get a temporary (or permanent if they're TOO bad) block. This is likely to hurt you more than the Wiki (if you and your brother use the same computer, or different computers on the same line) so it's up to you to keep said brother under control. With a sufficient number of competent users to review edits, Wikis work best if anonnies are let in, not kept out — and allowing anonnies to edit encourages them to join as full members. --Jay (Talk) 01:05, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Sandbox

I will again bring this up. Why do we need a test edits section when you could just link to the Sandbox? It's not only less confusing to newbies, but it's also easier to keep track of. And if you bring up Wikipedia, they made a decision to link to their sandbox over a year ago. JCM 17:00, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
