I'm sure you guys have noticed that most of the special characters are now broken. Is there any quick way to locate the problems? Should the finding and fixing of broken special characters be added as a project on the cleanup page? Aurora Szalinski 16:55, 9 Mar 2005 (MST)

Seems like more of a project to me, as cleanup tasks are ones that never really get completed. See the ? replacing non-regular characters section on the talk page there for more information. Also, Talk:Seor (Talk:Se%F1or]) might be of some help. -- Tom 08:27, 10 Mar 2005 (MST)
I clean up in my spare time, but I work more on projects, so I aggree. dylnuge 22:37, 24 Mar 2005 (MST)

Wiki vs. wiki

Okay, clearly I'm not getting something here. I'm trying to consistencify all the uses of "wiki" across the site. It seems that the best usage is to capitalize it when part of the site (Homestar Runner Wiki), but not when used alone (here on our wiki...). However, I immediately ran into two problems:

  1. There are some locked pages where it needs to decapitalized, such as HRWiki:General disclaimer and MediaWiki:Blockedtext. Somebody who's a superuser will have to attend to those.
  2. The more I use the Search function, the more I don't understand it. I searched for the word wiki, and I clicked a whole mess of checkboxes including the HRWiki checkbox. But the search did not find HRWiki:Cleanup as a page containing the word wiki, even though it does (and they need to be decapitalized). I'm going to assume that the search function is completely unreliable pending somebody telling me what I'm doing wrong.

I fixed the two instances you called attention to. As for the search, I'm not sure why it's missing certain results. I'll keep my eyes peeled for an answer to that question, though. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 01:21, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Fun Facts need re-organization

Most of the fun facts I've looked at recently involving toons and such are just kind of there matter-of-factly and have no order whatsoever. I'd like them to be placed in the order they "appear" in the toon. I realize this is rarely possible with some of the newer games: Peasant's Quest, Thy Dungeonman 3, etc., but it should be a simple matter with the toons. Is this an unreasonable request or am I just visiting the pages that haven't been ordered yet? —NFITC1talk 04:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Homestar Runner on Wikipedia

Looks like the Homestar Runner page over on Wikipedia needs cleanup, plus a few other articles have been proposed to be merged into it. Maybe a mention here is enough to get a few of our people involved, but does anyone else think this should be featured as a week long community project? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 00:28, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Well... it's on another wiki, so it doesn't sound like it should be a top cleanup priority. However, it is Wikipedia, AKA the god of all wikis, so it should probably be cleaned-up by one of our users, and it probably does have a place on some sort of clean up project page here. But, that's just my opinion. Others? Bluebry 00:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I put the thcleanup tags on there, and did quite a bit of it, but lately I've been slacking and/or busy. There have been a handfull of few people who have helped so far. Would love to see anybody doing what they can. The goal is to bring it to featured article status with a lot of strong side-article support. Homestar Runner viewership has been in decline over the past couple of years, so there's a good motivation to bring it to the world's attention again. See the talk page checklist and discussion for things to do. —BazookaJoe 00:54, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I cleaned up some odds and ends and proposed for the TGS and CC merge. I said to merge them. All right, keep on tranglin'. TheYellowDart(t/c)
Aside question, to Bazooka Joe - has viewership "been in decline over the past couple of years"? What's the source of that? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Alexa. Daily Reach, Rank, and Page Views have been falling since early 2005. —BazookaJoe 03:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I've been noticing that too on Alexa. HSR needs another revolution. Anyway, the cleanup is looking better. TheYellowDart(t/c)
Yeah, they have totally jumped the shark... Time for me to move on and cheer for the other team ;-) Loafing 03:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, to conclude this aside, I notice the biggest peak in the chart occurs after TGS, 20X6 and Trogdor are introduced in a short span of time. The next peak is after Experimental Film. I'd guess a real surge of popularity for Homestar Runner would not be driven by a featured Wikipedia article, but by the content of the toons. Not that cleanup of the Wikipedia article is not warranted or worthwhile, but just so we are doing it with a realistic goal in mind. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:19, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
The proper place to talk about editing a Wikipedia article is the respective Wikipedia article talk page. I don't think any effort should be made here to organize Wikipedia or any other wiki. Just like if you have something that requires discussion here, you bring it up on the respective talk page, you should do the same on Wikipedia. I know I wouldn't be happy if some other people just took it upon themselves to organize elsewhere and then edit HRWiki articles without letting us in on the conversation. Please discuss Wikipedia content changes at Wikipedia, not here. -- Tom 05:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree - though I perceived this discussion as a call to act (which would be impossible if not accomplished on this wiki), and peripherally what the real-world expectations of such editing could be (which would legitimately be addressed to this wiki's usership more readily than Wikipedia's). Same. Shouldn't our cleanup projects be dedicated to our own wiki? It's not this community's responsibility to clean up WP's articles, just as it isn't their job to clean up ours. This is fine if discussed and carried out there, but it probably shouldn't be our wiki's Weekly Cleanup Project. — Lapper (talk) 13:13, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
