A user recently wrote a link to a deleted page. The link, "my dot com", would logically autoredirect to "My Dot Com" if this page existed. Since "My Dot Com" has been deleted, it has the deleted page warning if you try to re-create the page. I noticed that clicking the "my dot com" red link didn't give such a warning, and I had to dig in the deletion log to determine which version had been deleted before. Is this a quirk that could be dealt with? {{User:The Knights Who Say Ni/sig}} 01:58, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

This may not be an easy issue to fix (or if it should be fixed in the first place), but I wanted to at least document it here:  We've found that when a page links to itself using autoredirect (and it's supposed to disable and bold the link) the wiki engine does not detect this and keeps the link normal.  This was seen in the templates {{tl|Strong Bad Sings and Other Type Hits}} and {{tl|Limozeen}} when linking to the pages for [[Moving Very Slowly (video)]] ({{pl|l=http://hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Strong_Bad_Sings_and_Other_Type_Hits&diff=783688&oldid=772432 diff}}) and [[Nite Mamas (karaoke)]] ({{pl|l=http://hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Strong_Bad_Sings_and_Other_Type_Hits&diff=next&oldid=783688 diff}}) in the former template, and [[NITE MAMAS]] ({{pl|l=http://hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Limozeen&diff=783698&oldid=732699 diff}}) in the latter. --[[User:Stux|Stux]] 16:55, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Just something that I wanted to make sure of since I've seen the returning Elcool (weclome back, by the way :)) recently make some edits to the contrary: Since the HRWiki has autopipe, unpiped links should have whatever capitalization makes sense in context, right? So for example, "<nowiki>In the Easter egg, [[Homestar Runner]] is seen in a [[kiddie pool]]</nowiki>" would be capitalized and linked as such, rather than as "<nowiki>In the Easter egg, [[Homestar Runner]] is seen in a [[Kiddie Pool]]</nowiki>". {{User:DEIDATVM/sig}} 00:36, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

:Just to clerify what I was doing: I was going over [http://hrwiki.org/wiki/Special:WantedPages Wanted Pages] and seeing that some autoredirects were registering as wanted pages. I don't know if that's a but or not. For example, I just now deleted [[NITE MAMAS]] and there are now 11 links looking for that page. Maybe it only effects pages created before the update? I don't know. But I agree with your observation that capitalization should make sense withing the sentense. (PS re:I'm back - Thanks!) {{User:Elcool/sig}} 05:07, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

[edit] Special characters in article titles

I think I found a little glitch: User:Heimstern Läufer should link to Heimi's page, but instead it's redlinked and takes you straight to editing his page. I assume it's a result of the special character in the page title, but I don't know if other pages are having this same issue. Trey56 07:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Other examples:

Interestingly, these links work fine from Special:Listusers and Special:Search. Trey56 08:09, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

On the other hand, these links work fine, so maybe the issue is just with accented Latin and Greek characters:

Well, maybe this will help narrow down what the problem is. Trey56 08:20, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm, from my point of view, somehow it seems all those you listed seem to work except the first one. What had changed? Any way to easily fix this w/o having to file a bug report? --Stux 16:50, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
I wrote this feature; it's not standard with MediaWiki. The problems are caused by a bug in our version of MySQL. I worked around most of the cases (as you have noted), but the function still has trouble correctly interpreting non-English capital characters. My plan is to also work around at least the case above, and possibly others depending on whether we have the need. In addition, I'm going to investigate the possibility of our upgrading to the latest version of MySQL. — It's dot com 01:28, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, articles with special characters at the beginning of the word are handled correctly now. I've done what I think is an exaustive test of pages with special characters in the title (see below), and they all work; since we don't have much call for non-English charactrs, I don't anticipate more problems. — It's dot com 06:27, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Nice work! Sorry to point out something that caused this much work :-\ Trey56 06:45, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, it's no problem. And on the plus side, if it weren't for that one user, we might not know about the problem for quite some time, at which point it might be harder to remember how to fix the problem. — It's dot com 06:59, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Red links with links in edit summary

This edit turned perfectly working blue links into red ones. Why come? They should be automagically blue'd. Loafing 03:51, 22 May 2007 (UTC) Nevermind, fixed. Or at least, Phlip told me about the glitch. Loafing 04:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Loaf, if ever that happens again, just edit the whole page and click save page without changing anything. That will cause the system to reevaluate the links. — Defender1031*Talk 12:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

The glitch can be traced to having a link in the edit summary for the link(s) and edit in question. Fixing it is low priority right now since it's a relatively rare occurrence, but it's on the to-do list. By the way, the system reevaluates the links when the page is purged as well. — It's dot com 13:51, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Fixed. — It's dot com 03:26, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Release?

Seeing as you only have two options with MediaWiki by default, either totally case-sensitive or just have every single title capitalized, have you ever considered releasing this as an extension, It's Dot Com? --69.150.85.66 18:26, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Autopi?

Out of curiosity, how many digits of pi do you have set up in the autopipe? Or does it rely on a computer generated number from a PHP math function or something? Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 22:39, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

As many as will fit in a valid MediaWiki title. BTW, since it's mostly a joke, I didn't try to be super fancy and have it correctly round; it only works if you truncate the number. — It's dot com 16:54, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
So up to 255 digits of pi, eh? That's insane! It's pretty funny seeing that (Redirected from) statement go off-screen. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 02:42, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] ChickensChicken?

It seems that autopipe isn't autopiping any form of chickens to our recent article on chicken. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 00:41, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Because it doesn't work like that. It takes singulars and looks for plurals, not the other way around. If you want to link to chickens easily, do it like I just did. — It's dot com 01:12, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Red link with diffs

A recent edit I made turns an autopiped link (Bikini) into a red link. However, it still correctly links to Bikinis. I assume this isn't a bug caused by our recent server move. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 04:03, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

No, i've seen that a couple times before. as of the writing of this talk post, that is the most recent edit to the page, and on the page right now, the blue link appears like it's supposed to. So no, it's not a new server error. The Knights Who Say Ni 04:21, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, like I said, this is only appearing when viewing diffs it seems.
