If you're looking for pages that need to be copied to the new Wiki, check the convenient Wanted Pages page. Remember, there's no sense in reinventing the wheel: start by copying the old pages from the old wiki at old.hrwiki.org. Please note that some page names have changed in the move, so make sure that you update any links you find in pages you're copying over.

Filmography Categories

All of the main characters now have a Filmography Category. To add a toon to a character's filmography, you put a category link at the bottom of the toon's page, e.g. if Strong Bad is in Toon X, then on the Toon X page you put this at the bottom: [[Category:Strong Bad Filmography]]. That will make Toon X appear on the Strong Bad Filmography category page. The "Project" here is that many of the Toons and Emails currently don't have complete filmography links.

Having the filmography categories makes updating (what would have been a list) painless. However it does clutter up the bottom of each page. There are 12 main characters, if each one appeared in a toon , as they do in Where's the Cheat?, there would be at least 13 categories at the bottom of the page (characters + toon). Instead of using Categories to track filmographies, how about templates? A new instance of the Character shows up and the template is updated. The template could be displayed on an Article page that would not need to be touched. Any thoughts? - Drhaggis 22:49, 13 Sep 2004 (MST)

Sounds promising. Can you show us what you mean? Perhaps create a template for a character that hasn't been done yet with categories. Then post a link to your example here. If it will keep the category list from getting cluttered, I'm all for it. I'd like to see this in action also, since I can't really visualize what you're talking about here. The bottom line is that when there's a new toon, we don't want to have to update 13 separate pages to keep the Filmographies up-to-date. I created a starter template at {{LimozeenFilmography}} and it can be seen in action at the end of the Sandbox. When a new appearance of a character comes up only the template is edited. This template could reside on the Character page, or on a separate article. I love categories too, but the clutter at the bottom of the page is a bit much for me.- Drhaggis 12:50, 14 Sep 2004 (MST)

Yep, that's quite specifically not what we want. We implemented the category system specifically so we wouldn't have to edit 13 pages (or however many characters appear) every time there was a new toon. I appreciate the work you put into it, but that's a no-go. Yes, the category system adds a minimal amount of clutter when there are several characters. But in my opinion it's easily worth it for Filmography pages to be automatically generated. -- InterruptorJones 13:16, 14 Sep 2004 (MST)

Fair enough, then I think it would benfit all if the filmographies were limited to the 12 main characters. If we start including all the bands, Teen Girl Squad characters, companies, computers and "things" that have in the past been classified as 'Characters', the bungle at the bottom of each toon, sbemail, feature and secret page will get worse with time. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it "will get worse with time." It's not like they go back and add new characters to toons, do they? At most, there will be 10 or 15 characters in a toon. We should only add filmography categories for legitimate actors. Props don't count. This will rule out computers, companies, etc. Bands, Teen Girl Squad characters, and the like are fine. They're real actors that have a part in the toon. Perhaps we should clarify that the filmographies should only include speaking parts? If an actor is simply an extra or has only a cameo appearance, the toon shouldn't be added to his/her filmography category. Will that help to control the clutter? --JoeyDay 15:15, 14 Sep 2004 (MST)

I agree with these guidelines, except that I think we need to make an exception for The Poopsmith and also for cameos by the 13 main characters. I also don't mind having TGS characters when they have actual roles. -- InterruptorJones 07:56, 15 Sep 2004 (MST)

By "worse with time", I mean that more secondary characters are always being added. What once may have been a throwaway reference is now a notable point in a characters career. I'm envisioning a time when we have to go back and add a Category: Biscuit Dough Hands Man Filmography to Strong Bad Is In Jail Cartoon and pizzaz because he becomes more crucial in the future. If you guys can live with 13+ categories at the bottom of a page, so can I. Perhaps a note on the Filmography category of the characters that deserve tracking via category would prevent confusion. Cast (in order of appearance)

We'd like to standardize the way appearing characters are listed on toon pages. Many of them currently say "Featuring:" followed by a list of characters that appear in that toon. Instead, this should say something like this:

Cast (in order of appearance): Strong Bad, The Cheat

Notice that only the left part (up to and including the colon) is bold and the character names are not. And, of course, the characters should be in the order in which they appear in the toon. This is a project that may be most convenient if done in concert with the Filmography Categories project.
