HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 33 (Aug 10-16)

I still can't believe that G hasn't been featured yet. It's like, a healthy piece of real estate! --Darkangel Get offa me! 05:05, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

The big problem with the G article is it has very little prose and is mostly a list. It's a great theme, but it's not what a FA makes. wbwolf (t | ed) 05:52, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, and I'm not sure one could really expand it to the point it would be a good FA, though I'd be perfectly happy for someone to prove me wrong on that point. Unless and until someone does so, though, it's not a good choice. Heimstern Läufer 14:47, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, since it's being debated whether or not to do First Time Here for week 32, how about doing the article originally intended: the Double Deuce? MHarrington 20:00, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Since I upstaged the suggestion for Double D, I'll second featuring Double Deuce for this week. Great theme, and a lot of text for an intro. wbwolf (t | ed) 23:53, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, I...one...two...Fifth it! For reasons stated above and beyond! Take it away, sig: free 00:15, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 34 (Aug 17-23)

For this week, how about General Tso's Chicken? MHarrington 20:02, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

I was thinking maybe the Fat Bluebird. The intro is plenty long enough, and The Chapman Brothers have mentioned their fondness of the bird. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 17:00, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, the article for that one is not all that long, not compared to General Tso's Chicken, anyway, and it appeared a lot less than it, too, so no comment. MHarrington 01:03, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
I wonder what TBC's reaction would be if they came to the wiki and saw the Bluebird on the front...Anyway, I don't really think the bluebird is long enough. free 12:51, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm with Free on that one. General Tso could probably work, though. Heimstern Läufer 01:16, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Tso is fine with me. -Espemon333

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 35 (Aug 24-30)

For this week, I was thinking of something befitting the return to school: L.U.R.N., Marzipan's cult... er, classroom. MHarrington 17:08, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

WHAT?!?!? WE'RE ALREADY PICKING BACK TO SCHOOL ARTICLES!?!? AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Erm, seems good to me. Back to school... ugh... free 17:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
My main concern with the LURN article is that while it has a lot of great prose, there isn't that much there past the intro. FAs should be a balance of strong intro with material beyond that. I'm not sure this would fit. How about the The Classroom instead? wbwolf (t | ed) 17:41, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Sure, that'd be good, too. MHarrington 19:26, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Works For me. -Espemon333

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 36 (Aug 31-Sep 6)

For this week, we need to do something Old-Timey-related. I'm torn between either Old-Timey Marzipan or the big toon Parsnips A-Plenty. MHarrington 06:19, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, we're doing A Folky Tale right now, so I don't really want to do Parsnips-a-Plenty. Old-Timey Marzipan seems decent, but I want to do Words I Probably Said sometime. It's amazing, I think. free 15:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, then let's do Old-Timey Marzipan this week, and Words I Probably Said next week. MHarrington 18:32, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Have we already done labor day or labor dabor?
Yes and yes. MHarrington 22:50, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 37 (Sep 7-13)

For this week, we should do what was previously suggested earlier: Words I Probably Said. MHarrington 21:50, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

I just looked at it and it looks solid. I agree. OpenSourceGreg 10:37, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 38 (Sep 14-20)

Homestar Runner and Homestar Runner's Relationship. "homestar = you" = pure genius. — It's dot com 19:12, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Excellent article if we can just expand that prose intro severalfold. Heimstern Läufer 19:13, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
"...which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki." This definitely is an important part of the Homestar Runner , but it may not be a highlight of the wiki. Yes, the intro needs fixing, but I think Character Relationships are the future of FAs. Now if I only knew what severalfold means... free 19:22, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but the article is far too short to merit a Featured Article. Might I suggest something that has never been done yet this year: a full week of themes. This time, I was thinking of a whole week of emails involving the infamous DNA evidence and the big toon DNA Evidence. MHarrington 03:35, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
MHarrington, you're much too quick to dismiss others' ideas out of hand instead of trying to suggest ways to improve them. Instead, you have a tendency to immediately stick in your own ideas. That's just plain bad form.
As I've already said, HR-self does have exactly the type of content that would be great as an FA, but its intro is not nearly ready. There's still a lot of time; it might be something we can improve before the time of featuring. Heimstern Läufer 03:54, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I did say I was sorry. But I wasn't trying to be dismissive of others' ideas. I just don't know how it can be expanded. It's an integral part of the website experience, to be sure, but how can we possibly expand the article so that it actually can be usable? MHarrington 15:34, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
I'd start by summarizing the content of the article in greater detail, similar to Wikipedia's guidelines on lead sections. Heimstern Läufer 15:38, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, obviously, the article needs to go into greater detail, but my question is, how? MHarrington 16:00, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
How about something like this? Oh, and I fully support this article. wbwolf (t | ed) 17:44, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, it's good to start with. But I think it might need to be a bit longer. MHarrington 04:42, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
"We also might just think it's cool." The concept behind the article is brilliant and fascinating, and certainly cool enough to be featured. By all means, expand the intro if you think it needs it. It's the overall idea that is so appealing to me. — It's dot com 12:20, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
That it is. free 12:21, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 39 (Sep 21-27)

How about Teen Girl Squad Issue 13 for this week? The Wheelchair 05:23, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

It's a good article, but it has come to my attention that The Stick has not been featured. It's shocking. free 12:32, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
That article is one of our more unfortunate deficiencies on the wiki. There's a reason we haven't featured it: its prose intro is too short still, despite the importance of the subject matter. I would really like to see it featured, so is there anyone who has an idea of how to expand the prose intro? Heimstern Läufer 17:13, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind doing TGS Issue 13 this week. MHarrington 03:43, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm looking at The Stick intro as it stands right now, and it looks like the intro is long enough. We should reconsider this subject. It might be too soon after featuring The Classroom, so it might need to be moved, but I think The Stick is FA material. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:55, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I just made a substantial expansion to the intro, so it's looking a lot more feature-worthy now. Heimstern Läufer 17:07, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, we can do that, I suppose. MHarrington 21:01, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 40 (Sep 28-Oct 4)

In the wake of the toon version of Where My Hat Is At?, for this week, how about the original story? MHarrington 03:38, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

That is an excellent suggestion, and definitely another overlooked article. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:57, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 41 (Oct 5-11)

For this week, how about trying again to do Teen Girl Squad Issue 13? MHarrington 14:44, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42 (Oct 12-18)

I know I'd probably the last person to propose such a thing, but how about a week of DVD exclusive toons. Real Live E-Mail and Tis True, Pom Pom, Tis True are the only ones of that category that have been featured, and as a class should have a little more attention to them. How about: Greeting Cards, Puppets On The Road, Sample Of Style, Blue Laserdisc Challenge, Accent, Where's The Cheat? (game) and Dangeresque: THREE in 3D. wbwolf (t | ed) 01:33, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I know for a fact that we need to to do SOMETHING dailies-related eventually. I never thought of this, though. I guess I'm game. MHarrington 15:44, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Can we put 160 Seconds in there? It sounds cool. free 23:26, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 1

Now that it has been tentatively agreed to do weeklies, how about figuring out their order. I propose that we start off with Greeting Cards, the first DVD exclusive Strong Bad Email wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 2

Next would be Puppets On The Road wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, we NEED to do something puppet-related. free 20:09, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 3

Sample Of Style A lot of fun with Matt & Mike just goofing around. wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 4

I'm not real happy about Blue Laserdisc Challenge here. I'm not sure if The Limozeen Advantage or Why Come Only One Girl? should be featured due to various issues. Any ideas? wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I'd like to see "Why Come...". MHarrington 06:17, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm not amenable to us drawing any more attention to that article until such a time (if any) that it's unprotected. Heimstern Läufer 19:47, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
I think Blue Laserdisc Challenge could be made to work; we just need to be a bit creative in our writeup. Heimstern Läufer 19:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
The Limozeen Advantage needs some major cleaning up. Laserdisc is fine with me, though. free 20:09, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 5

Accent for another DVD SBEmail. wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 6

Where's The Cheat? (game) is probably the weakest. 160 Seconds is interesting, but it's kinda on the short side. I'm trying to stick with longer entries. Thoughts? wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 42, day 0

Finally, round out the week with Dangeresque: THREE in 3D. I know it was only recently released, but a) I'd like to have at least one example from each of the discs (SBEmail 1-3 count as one release) and b) it's probably one of the longest H*R toons overall. wbwolf (t | ed) 20:29, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

And after all, why not sometimes feature stuff that's very new? Shows how on top of the game we are. Heimstern Läufer 19:51, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 43 (Oct 19-25)

Almost Halloween! This week is our week to feature something Halloween-related other than a full toon. I was thinking maybe Marshie vs. Little Girl if no one has any better ideas. Heimstern Läufer 20:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

How about the email ghosts? MHarrington 22:38, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2009, week 44 (Oct 26-Nov 1)

Ween. We usually feature a full-length Halloween toon this week. We've already featured Pumpkin Carve-nival, Homestarloween Party and Halloween Potion-ma-jig, so let's think of a different one. Heimstern Läufer 20:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

How about The House That Gave Sucky Treats, my personal favorite. Though I'm not sure how much that matters when choosing FAs... free 20:09, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
There are definitely some reasons this toon is noteworthy; for example, it was the first interactive Halloween toon, and it established the trend of Homsar as a secret character in H'ween toons. Also was the last one to feature voting on costumes, and had a sort of addendum released five years later. All told, I think this'd make a good FA. Heimstern Läufer 20:32, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Sorry if it seems like I'm being hasty and dismissing your ideas (don't get me wrong, Sucky Treats looks like a good one), but what about Jibblies 2? That's a good one, too. A lot of people really like that one. The plot is intense, the characters are off the wall here and it's great. "Sucky Treats", however, doesn't really have much to write up on, short of just the characters coming to the house in question and maybe Homsar being introduced in the Halloween toons here. MHarrington 22:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
