HRWiki:Changing username

From Homestar Runner Wiki

Revision as of 20:01, 2 July 2008 by It's dot com (Talk | contribs)
Jump to: navigation, search

The user name users choose for themselves is no longer set in stone. On request, bureaucrats can change user account settings and article histories such that all previous edits of a given user are attributed to the new name using Special:Renameuser. Note: You must make the request from the account you want renamed; anonymous requests (except users whose usernames begin with a lowercase letter and therefore cannot log in) are ignored for security reasons.

Contents

Requesting a change

To change your user name, please make your request on this page. Please follow the procedure carefully or your request will not be fulfilled.

Instructions

  1. Check if the new name you want does not exist (Special:Listusers). Do not create an account under the new name. (If you already created the new account, don't worry. We can do some stuff and fix it, but it's still recommended that you don't.)
  2. Sign in with the account that you want renamed.
Of course, this is not possible if your account has a lowercase first letter. If you can't log in, then skip this step.
  3. Add your request to the bottom of the section below. Use the following template: {{renameuser|Old username|New username}}
  4. Once your request is dealt with, all edits from your old account will be reattributed to your new account.
  5. Move and redirect your user page and talk page to the new name if it has not already been done.

Current requests

Please use this template for new requests: {{renameuser|Old username|New username}}

DJ Te Cheat

I Don't Know If This'll Fit, But If So, Please Change this. Need to show Some Mad Props For My Homedog Blake. Thanks. DJ Te Cheat 24 May 2007

Moonea

Could you change my name to "Moonea"? I know the name is created; it's my old account, and I never entered a password and was logged out. I also forgot my password to that account. Thank you in advance! 12:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Dramus

Could you change all edits with the name 'Dramus' to 'TDSDramus'? I'm the same person, but I forgot my password for the Dramus account, and did not have an E-Mail address linked to the Dramus account. Thanks. Lifing for love, drinking for free. 04:20, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Cheetspeek

Like weirdguy, mine was lowercase. Haven't been on in a while, thus meriting this name change. Thanks in advancements!

There is no username "cheetspeek"... there is, however, a User:CheetSpeek, with a capital S... is that you? If so, nothing needs to be done... phlip TC 06:25, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Jordoex

I'm not 100% sure if I made an account; anyways, it used lowercase first. Change from jordoex to Jordo_EX. Thanks!(Same thing as with wierdguy)

There is no username "jordoex", here, or at the fanstuff, or the forum... "Jordo_EX" is avaliable, feel free to just register it. phlip TC 06:25, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Johnny Ohm Talk ??? 01:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC) (R.I.P) Oh, and reply on my talk page because yours is long and my computer is SLOW and can you just change it for free so I don't have to pay 200 bucks?

Numa Numa

Please? I don't like the username and don't really know the english lyrics pf that song. And Xx6xX needs his name changed on the fanstuff wiki, unless you got it. Numa Numa!! (T*C)

I like your name.--Kanjiro talk 03:50, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm not going to rename you something so close to Cow Puncher's (the former Xx6xX's) name. It would just cause confusion as to who's who. — It's dot com 16:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Wait a minute. Are you and the fanstuff user Cow Puncher the same person? If you are, then you should have said so. If you're not, then you need to stop referring to yourself using that name. — It's dot com 18:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I am. Numa Numa!! (T*C)
All right, I'll rename you, but I'm going to insist that your name here and on the fanstuff be the same ("Puncher" in both places, not "Puncha" in one). — It's dot com 19:07, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Because I don't like Club Penguin anymore and I like the e-mail credit card. SuperfieldCreditUnion

The name in credit card is Superfied Credit Union (not Superfield). Please clarify. — It's dot com 15:38, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I am well aware that it is Superfied, not Superfield. But this does not change the fact that I still want it to be Superfield. It was not a spelling error. SuperfieldCreditUnion

But there's also Homsarrunner and Homsar runner. Honestly, I didn't even know there was a Homsarwalker before I came up with it. How about Homsar Sprinter? --The Goblin!! 03:07, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I've wanted a new name for a while. I found one. The problem with most is mainly y icons, and everything, especially the TG thing in my sig. Nice thing about this is that that doesn't have to be changed. I want The Goblin! The Goblin!! 16:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Done. When I first saw the request, I was afraid you were changing your name to something else altogether. I'm glad to see you were just tweaking it. — It's dot com 20:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Sam the Man

Love baseball. I think this is a good name. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 23:21, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Why would you want to change your name? Everyone knows you as Sam the Man — it'll be confusing! Trey56 03:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, you've established yourself rather heavily here under your current name, and as such I am rather disinclined to change it. Perhaps you could shed some light on why you would make this request. — It's dot com 03:49, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Um, guys, everyone knew The Goblin as Techgeekmbg (as I still do) and yet you changed his name without this much investigation. Why are you picking on Sam? --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 02:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't like it that techie got changed... i think that this whole name change thing is dumb unless it's a minor spelling or capitalization fix, or a switch for a relatively new user... but for an established user like techie or sam, i wouldn't think it a good idea at all. (Ya hear that sam? i'm saying that you're well known round these parts) — Defender1031*Talk 02:05, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I was going to say that Sam has also been here longer, but then I checked the logs, and Sam's only a month older, account wise, than Techgeek (March 7 to April 25, respectively). So now my argument's all shot to whatsit. I guess Sam just established himself earlier than Techgeek. --DorianGray 05:18, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
The biggest (but certainly not only) difference between the two cases is that Techgeek demonstrated a long time ago that he wanted a new name, and over time his feelings on the matter remained the same. Sam, on the other hand, seems to be making the request on a whim (or maybe not, but he hasn't given us much to go on here). I'm not completely against making the change for him, but I think it would be fair for him to give us a pretty good reason to even consider it. — It's dot com 05:59, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Here's some reasons:
  • I love baseball, and my email is "strikeoutsam@——".
  • I want to make a fresh new start ever since I got blocked.
  • Meh, it's a good name.
That's some reasons. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 22:02, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
After further reflection, I'm not going to change your name. Sorry. You've established yourself under the name you have, and that's the name you need to keep. — It's dot com 22:07, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
But everyone knows me as Sam the Man, the guy who got blocked. I want to be Strikeout Sam, please!? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 22:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Honestly, if you hadn't brought up the fact that you had ever been blocked, I wouldn't have remembered it. Nobody really dwells on that. (And, for what it's worth, it's not like changing your name erases those records.) — It's dot com 22:13, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Strikeout Sam the Man, or whoever you are, I think you have made some pretty good points for changing your name (besides the bit about a "fresh start" which I don't really follow). You use another name elsewhere and its the name you prefer. And you've been sitting on it for three months, so if the change is made I don't really see you changing your mind and wishing you hadn't gone through with it. To anyone trying to dissuade him, I'd suggest that a rename is probably preferable to him registering for a new account and abandoning his history completely (which I hope it doesn't come to). Let the guy have his new name. OptimisticFool 23:04, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Just to clarify, you guys are free to keep talking, but this thread actually ended four posts ago. — It's dot com 23:18, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Here's a reason your argument on "Oh, I like this name better now than I did when I joined." I, admittedly, changed my username for that reason, but I 1) was not well known at the time. 2) used the name I changed to in my signatures ever since I got one. You have not expressed either of those. Furthermore, if I were to suddenly say "Oh, my new online alias is s0merand0mdude, change it to that please," I would get shot down in similar fashion. Just say that outside the wiki, you are known as StrikeoutSam. Problem solved. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 23:25, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Homestar-winner

Having "Homestar" in a username seems too uncreative, as this is the Homestar Runner Wiki. Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:22, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Like, actually, I'll still think about it. Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:37, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Nah, you don't need to change your name. We've got several Homestars out there, the most notable being Homestar Coder, and four syllables has a much nicer cadence than a mere two. Also, you've been here a while, and you have a lot of edits. (I'm not saying we've never changed names of people who have a lot of edits, but I've come to realize it's something we should avoid unless there's a really compelling reason.) — It's dot com 22:05, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I never really liked my name; the question mark just seems to get in the way of things. I also kinda figured I needed an image overhaul. (I can't have the young users thinking I'm old!) I've already changed my signature, since I know this request will be accepted. But if anyone has suggestions for an even more kick-awesome username, let me know. Has Matt? Kevin G. Dannerson

I decided I liked my 92nd day of the leap year prank so much i wanted to change my name to it entirely. Just like a super bowl commercial turns into a regular commercial. Besides, Kevin G. Dannerson is a pretty lame name. And this one actually has some meaning and not just words that were randomly thrown together in it. Kevin G. Dannerson 19:30, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't really like my username. To many 2's. If you get rid of one it'll bother me less. Thank you.-PeterImage:Petersig.png

On your user page, you state "I also despise my username", which says to me that you would not want to be stuck with Peter22. In order to avoid having to change your name a second time, I'm just going to wait till you come up with something you like as opposed to something that doesn't bother you as much. — It's dot com 03:53, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
The excessive two's are the only reasons I dislike it. If I have one less I'd be fine with it and probably wouldn't change it again. Peter22 would not bother me at all.-PeterImage:Petersig.png
