Hello. I am weirdalinstrongbadia. I am a hu.... well, it's pretty obvious that I love H*R.
I enjoy PS3 gaming (username:gunhaver27. A name of a Homestar Runner character!),
this website, Steam, swimming, kicking The Cheat, and drinking several [[cold ones]].
I live in the state of Florida, my favorite drink is Cold Ones and Melonade, favorite
food is baloneyman sandwhiches (Or however the [[crap]] you spell it).

After who knows how long, we finally get a toon! This truly is a D-Ween Mackerel!
On to Bweeze-Ness. Here are some things I have noticed.
*On the Main Page it says "New Holiday Toon", and when hovered over it says "For real!"
*When Cardgage is "revived" he makes the same shine and noise as when "Eh, Steve!'s mouth exploded the universe" in Cactus Coffee and the No Tell Hotel"
*Non specific mouthwash and the guy who says I'm going to need you to sign this makes fun of people being sued for using product names.
*Marzipan and Homestar both sung a modified version of O, Decemberween.
*Strong Sad being locked in the tub is a reference to other D-Ween toons.
*This toon constantly references Cardgage's death. And hints at Homsar's
*When Marzipan and Homestar are walking at the beginning, Homestar has footsteps and Marzi is leaving a solid trail, again hinting she is just a mass in a dress shape
*When Cardgage comes out of the bush, he makes the same traffic noise as in his FBI warning and Hremail 3184
*Coach Z is wearing a Blubb-Os box.
*The Bubs scene could be an instance of duplicate characters.
*Homeschool winner, Preshy, Rafferdy, Champeen, The Hurricane and another mass I can't identify at the end of the line are all in the bubs scence
*The Defib unit was previously seen in the Breakfast cereal email
*This is an toon not only in widescreen but it is big altogether even bigger than the games menu(I personally can't fit it on my screen VERTICALLY entirely)

I am just so happy we finally have a toon again! I have been checking the website everyday for so long hoping to see one. This brightened my day!

I know the sound quality is better, but does Marzipan's voice sound a little different to you guys? I don't know, it sounds more refined, for lack of a better word, maybe it's just been so long I forgot what she sounded like. :Yes, it's different. I can't describe it either. It was different in [[DNA Evidence]] too.. according to Matt in the DVD commentary, "You can tell Melissa's got a cold here. She's a little snotty." I didn't want to bring it to the talk because it was a very fleeting suggestion, and I interpreted it to refer to Marzipan's line instead of Homestar's. :#Get Firefox, get Greasemonkey, then get [[User:Phlip/Greasemonkey|Phlip's All-in-one script]], which includes a feature to automagically make the toon the size of you screen.
:#Press F11 to make your browser go fullscreen (this is standard across all browsers).
:#Increase the resolution of your screen by going to control panel and then under Appearance and Personalization there should be a link that says "Adjust Screen Resolution" (at least that's on Vista, might be slightly different in 7 and probably similar in OS X).
:#Buy a bigger monitor/better video card.

When Marzipan said "Senor Cardgage won first place in sports" it reminded me of the reporter in Coach Z's 110% that said "Homestar Runner, you just won the sports". So now I'm wondering if there's any other time the term "sports" is used in place of an actual sport, and if not, if this seems notable in any way at all.

I posted a fun fact saying that Senor Cardgage's left arm disappears after he rises from the bush. [[User:The Knights Who Say Ni|The Knights Who Say Ni]] reverted it. If you watch the bush closely, ''something'' red is behind it as he's rising up, but the moment he stops, it disappears. I figured it's his left hand/glove. If anyone out there has Greasemonkey and can verify this, I'd be much obliged. Bottom line, though: something weird happens after he rises up. Per the suggestion of It's dot com I'm taking this discussion here. The caption for the photo on the page is much, much too long and doesn't really fit the picture. We try to avoid unnecessarily lengthy captions here and this is one of them. ::I'm largely ambivalent, but if required to make the choice, I'd go with DC's because, whatever anyone else may say, I do find it marginally funnier than the other. I do grant that it's pretty long, but really, I don't know that we have any particular precedent against long quotes. Still, I'm not going to get too involved in this. ::::::I would characterize the majority of our captions, especially the ones at the top of toon articles, as funny. (Yes, funny is subjective. Let's just say that they were probably funny to whoever added them to the respective articles.) Even if we ''usually'' have short captions, I have not noticed that we, as a rule, must ''always'' choose short quotes for captions (demonstrated by the link above), and I would expect the claim that one has "seen plenty of lengthy captions get cut back" to be backed up with links to edits. Ultimately, I think the current caption is fine with the current image (shown above).

I needed an image for the main page, and so I specifically chose something close to the beginning of the toon that wouldn't be a spoiler. None of these toons are a giant novel, it'd be unnecessary to employ anti-spoiler measures. Frankly, that'd be just silly. We cover these toons in a strict encyclopedic manner, because these aren't games. Getting back on topic, I'd just keep the caption as it's shown here. In the Transcript section, at one point, Senor Cardgage is said to say this:

But what if what he's actually saying is, "My Toyota crashed."? I think this makes sense because he could be using "Toyota" to refer to one of his organs, and saying it "crashed" would be kind of like it failing. And also because of the recent issue with Toyota vehicles and their brakes failing, causing them to crash. Though that may be too sensitive of a joke for an online show like this to make, especially so soon. Still, I think it's plausible that he could've said either one.

*When Cardgage is "revived" he makes the same shine and noise as when "Eh, Steve!'s mouth exploded the universe" in Cactus Coffee and the No Tell Hotel"
*Non specific mouthwash and the guy who says I'm going to need you to sign this makes fun of people being sued for using product names.
*Marzipan and Homestar both sung a modified version of O, Decemberween.
*Strong Sad being locked in the tub is a reference to other D-Ween toons.
*This toon constantly references Cardgage's death. And hints at Homsar's
*When Marzipan and Homestar are walking at the beginning, Homestar has footsteps and Marzi is leaving a solid trail, again hinting she is just a mass in a dress shape
*When Cardgage comes out of the bush, he makes the same traffic noise as in his FBI warning and Hremail 3184

In this case, of course, we lack any chance to do so. Perhaps more importantly, H*R doesn't really have a lot of continuity, particularly as it comes to death and Homsar (he's died twice already). For whatever reason, the Chaps didn't make a Halloween toon back in October, so they made one now. It's actually ''less'' of a Decemberween toon than a Halloween toon (the proper Decemberween toon being [[A Decemberween Mackerel]]). From the opening jack-o-lantern, to the costumes, to the Easter eggs, everything is in the style of Halloween; there is simply a Decemberween theme to which costumes were chosen (it's actually very clever the way they blended the two). As far as I know, any program that lets you fast forward won't let you actually play the levels. That said, they recently fixed level 27 (around Valentine's Day '05), so it is now beatable.

Anyone else out there think TBC may not exactly be movie history buffs? I mean, I'm definitely not, but I know this:
*The first successful talking picture, "The Jazz Singer", was released in 1927.
*"Steamboat Willie", the first suncessful cartoon with synchronized sound, was released in 1928.
*By 1933, the time when the silent Homestar cartoons were supposedly released, talking pictures were common, and by 1936, the time that the first talking H*R cartoon supposedly came out, silent films were on their swift way out, if they weren't already nonexistent.
*Using their current formula, any old-timey H*R cartoon released next year will be dated 1938... but in actuality, the next year, 1939, saw such movies as "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz", which would definitely be considered modern films, as compared to the more revolutionary, experimental days of the 1920s.

I think the article should mention that the whole "Old-Timey" universe, despite referring to actual dates, incorporates tons of anachronisms from different "old" time periods; I think it basically just stands for "old," whether that means 19th-century (Strong Bad's use of a ''telegraph''?!), 1910s-20s (flappers, prohibition, WW1 allusions), or 1930s (Great Depression). Homsar appears to be the only main character without a 30s version. But I noticed that "The Bossman" in Mr. Shmallow has the same bowler hat as him. He also looks kinda like a big, fat version of our favourite song from the sixties. Could he be Homsar's Old-timey equivelant, or is it too much of a stretch?

== Cartoons? Films? ==

All of the Old-Timey flicks claim they are cartoons, which would mean that they are animated. However, they also feature editing mistakes (as pointed out) characteristic of films, most notably the slight movement of objects between reel changes. For example in Parsnips-A-Plenty, there is a flash when the camera shows the characters at the very beginning (indicating the reel change and splicing) and the characters are in slightly different positions after the flash than before. This would occur when actors take a break during reel change, and cannot move back into the exact same positions as before. However, cartoons would not be susceptible to this kind of glitch because the figures can be fixed on the cel, plus drawn figures would not need to take a break so they could be left in the exact position for however long it takes to change the reel. Even if they did move about (say the draught blows it), they wouldn't be different sizes because they'd only move on the surface of the paper but not closer to or further away from the camera. In many instances, however, characters do change size slightly (though it might just be me...) indicating that their distance from the camera changes, which would certainly have the implication that they are actual actors being filmed.

The former was released on October 21, 2002 (and set in 1936) and the latter was released on October 18, 2004 (and set in 1937). There seem to be many anachronisms among the various Old Timey cartoons. THe most glaring of which is in the Mr. Shmallow cartoon showing a man and a woman with jetpacks and clear space helmets in front of a background consisting of four-pointed stars. Also, the character of Rumble Red. Setting aside the fact that the [[Wikipedia:Red scare|Red Scare]] was not as prevalent in the '30s as it was after WWII, those images of jetpacks and aliens in the style of Rumble Red are more along the lines of popular science-fiction settings of the late '50s-early '60s. I'm also unsure why this page is notable. I can understand pages like [[Strong Sad Smiling]] and [[Strong Mad Smiling]] — their names imply that their personalities are generally "sad" and "mad", respectively, and for them to smile is contrary to their general demeanors. Strong Bad on the other hand is "bad", but that doesn't necessarily imply a lack of smiling. In fact, I think that stereotypical villains smile ''a lot'', but usually because they're doing something evil that gives them pleasure. I believe that a lot of Strong Bad's smiles are of this type, which is by no means contrary to his nature.

On top of this, the great number of instances of Strong Bad smiling makes me question its importance. If it's not an uncommon event at all, why are we noting it? It just means more work to pay attention to every instance of a common event and make sure we add it onto the end of this list.

Strong Bad's mouth is a rectangle. When he smiles, one or two lines curve a little bit. I love that this page exists, but I opine that we don't need 34 screenshots for something so similar each time. (The same discussion could be had about each of the Smiling pages.) For Strong Bad, I recommend three (as pictured above). I've done the math. Strong Bad's appeared in 28 toons this year, and smiled in 12 of those 28. (I only counted cartoons that played on homestarrunner.com) That's almost one time for every month. However, that is not an accurate comparison because I clearly remember times when he smiled in 2 or 3 consecutive toons. Does anyone else think that means the gag is entering "not special" territory? *In 2005, Strong Bad made 38 appearances and smiled ten times. Smiling rate for the year: 26.3%
*In 2006, Strong Bad made 32 appearances (counting "retirement" as two separate toons) and smiled nine times. Smiling rate for the year: 28.1%
*In 2007, Strong Bad made 32 appearances and smiled eight times. Smiling rate for the year: 25%
*In 2008, Strong Bad made 30 appearances and smiled fourteen times. Smiling rate for the year: 46.7%
