== Biography ==
'''Strong Sad''' is the youngest of [[The Brothers Strong|the Brothers Strong]]. He stands somewhere between [[Strong Bad]] and [[Strong Mad]] in height, and has large, elephant-like feet he calls "[[Soolnds|soolnds]]", (in the past, poachers have apparently offered large sums of money to obtain Strong Sad's feet). His body is round and two shades of grey — a lighter grey from the waist up, a darker grey from the waist down. For some reason however, [[Coach Z]] thinks he is yellow.{{ref|1}} Strong Sad's body makes the sound of a inflated rubber ball when hit — and according to Strong Sad, it is hit often. His head is white and has an odd lump on the top, referred to as a "disturbing soft-serve flip" by Strong Bad in [[keep cool]] (a trait shared by [[Mr. Bland]]). It is unclear whether or not he has teeth. Strong Bad claims that he does not, but Strong Sad was seen brushing his teeth in [[narrator]]. He is usually very calm and soft-spoken, although he has become [[Hyperactive Strong Sad|hyperactive]] on occasion (at least once under the influence of [[Coffee|caffeine]]), and he has also temporarily (albeit ''involuntarily'') become a boisterous [[radio|radio DJ]] once or twice. The phrase "covered bridges" seems to be able to put him in some type of trance, as seen in "Fall Float Parade". He also has some sort of reaction to sunlight overexposure, causing him to become uncharacteristically happy,{{ref|2}} even if he did not enjoy it (at one point, he actually asks to be shot).

Strong Sad's main defining characteristic is his chronic depression — his high levels of intelligence and creativity are almost always overshadowed by it. His many interests include listening, books, listening to books, calligraphy, safety, being alone, arts, crafts, and arts [[b/w]] crafts. He has outstanding penmanship, often writing poetry, which he then recites at his own "poetry slams". Strong Sad is seen using both his right and left hands to write and play the guitar, implying that he is [[Left Handedness|ambidextrous]]. He has been seen practicing [[Wikipedia:T'ai Chi Ch'üan|T'ai Chi]]. Strong Sad also enjoys playing board games, and he seems to enjoy going to science-fiction and fantasy conventions, as seen in [[different town]] and [[TrogdorCon '97]]. He has an [[Strong Sad's iPod|iPod]], and he occasionally updates his [[Strong Sad's Lament|blog]] from time to time. Strong Sad's highly philosophical view on life has creeped out other characters more than once, most notably Strong Bad and [[Marzipan]]. Strong Sad may have a crush on Marzipan; he has occasionally lied to Marzipan just so he could spend time with her, as in [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 10.2]]. However, he might just be trying to make friends with anyone he can.

Strong Sad has a love-hate relationship with his brother Strong Bad. It appears that the two [[The Secrets That I Keep|got along quite well]] when they were younger, but nowadays, Strong Sad suffers almost constant [[Strong Bad and Strong Sad's Relationship#Strong Bad Hurting Strong Sad|abuse]] from Strong Bad. In particular, Strong Bad has quite a list of [[Nicknames#Strong Sad|names]] he has used to insult Strong Sad. Strong Sad has also been the subject of numerous practical jokes by Strong Bad, Strong Mad, and [[The Cheat]], ranging from being drilled a new navel by [[Lil' Strong Bad]] to being used as a [[The Stunt Double|stunt double]] for the [[Dangeresque (film series)|Dangeresque]] movies, to even having [[Wikipedia:wildebeest|wildebeest]] [[Wikipedia:pheromones|pheromones]] washed into his laundry. In turn, Strong Sad holds a very low opinion of his brother and considers him to be a clueless weirdo. However, evidence from "The Secrets That I Keep" suggests that even though Strong Sad insults Strong Bad, he also looks up to him and misses the days when they got along. He seems to retain some degree of brotherly love toward Strong Bad: when the Tandy 400 exploded in the email [[gimmicks]], Strong Sad sincerely asked Strong Bad if he were all right, and wrote a letter wishing him well while Strong Bad was [[Strong Bad is in Jail Cartoon|incarcerated]]. However, he also stated that his brother's absence caused him to feel far happier with himself than usual, and turned Strong Bad's computer room into his tai chi space. He was also eager to help Strong Bad with his 150th email in [[Sbemail 150?!?]], and even managed to provide the background music for Strong Bad's [[Strong Bad Email Intros|email intro]] in [[alternate universe]].

Strong Sad's troubled relationship with Strong Bad seems to have affected his social interaction habits with the rest of the community of [[Free Country, USA]]. He is generally reclusive and has only a few friends — his best friend appears to be [[Homsar]], and he plays Jenga with The Cheat on Tuesdays. Early in the site's history, [[Homestar Runner]] even counted Strong Sad as a friend, and still shows some signs of friendship towards him. He is often overlooked and ignored when he [[In Search of the Yello Dello New Version|has an idea]], and he is sometimes even [[Death#Strong Sad|believed to be dead]]. Despite all of this, he serves as a loyal officer in the [[Homestarmy]], temps at an unnamed computer company with Strong Bad and Homestar, and even has a [[Strong Sad Lookalike Contest]] held in his honor/insult each year.

Strong Sad seems to be the most rational of the characters, and often seems to react perplexedly to the others' cartoonish antics. He can often be found patiently correcting another's apparent mistakes, such as in [[TrogdorCon '97]] and [[technology]], or [[Happy T!|entirely uncomprehending]] of the nonsensical events around him. He was even featured as the sole "[[Bear Holding a Shark]] Skeptic" in [[myths & legends]].

== Fun Facts ==
* [[Matt Chapman]] has said that Strong Sad is the most difficult character to voice due to how delicate he sounds. If Matt strains his voice too much before recording, he actually can't do Strong Sad at all (which led to Mike substituting for Strong Sad's one word in [[cheat talk]]).
* Strong Sad [[Fourth Wall Breaks|breaks the fourth wall]] by saying he doesn't want to do a "character page", and by running his finger up and down the left border of the screen. The actual wall of his room is much further off to the side, as evidenced by the poster in the background.
* The odd lump on top of Strong Sad's head gives him a similar appearance to some of the secondary characters in [[Wikipedia:Casper the Friendly Ghost|Casper the Friendly Ghost]].

Running [[Bubs' Concession Stand|his own concession stand]], Bubs is a sharp salesman who will sell [[Bubs' Concession Stand#Known Items Sold|almost anything]], and has developed a habit for selling ridiculous items at a humorously high price. He also has been seen operating the [[Baloney Sammich Truck]], which he drove down to the beach in [[Weclome Back]]. However, he only sold "exactly zero bologna sandwhiches" during his "best year ever." Bubs resells Internet access, although he rips off his sole subscriber, [[Strong Bad]], in 99 different ways. It's likely that not all of his dealings are exactly legal, considering his reaction to a practical joke from [[Strong Bad]] in [[lackey]], and trying to dispose of items marked EXHIBIT A and EXHIBIT B (a presumably human pancreas which he tried to sell to [[Homestar Runner]]) in [[Bug In Mouth Disease]]. He seems to dislike [[Strong Bad]] for not paying a debt to him, and threatened to turn him over to a "cut off your toes" style collection agency in [[other days]].

In his spare time he reads back issues of Motor Trend magazine, and also hangs out and talks with [[Coach Z]]. Apparently, Coach Z got on Bubs's bad side near Thanksgiving in 2005, and to get even, Bubs made a "Coach Z, you jerk!" float for the [[Fall Float Parade]]. (Coach Z retaliated by saying "Serves him right, then" when [[Strong Mad]] stole his concession stand and marched with it in the parade.) In [[narrator]], it was shown that they had patched things up and were once again having boring conversations.

Bubs [[Dancin' Bubs|dances]] and attends night courses at Disco Tech. His facial configuration is puzzling; in [[Pumpkin Carve-nival]], he appears to have a safety pin stuck through his face above an internal ear. In Strong Bad's [[record book]], he was solely declared "Cutest couple."

'''Strong Sad''' is the youngest of [[The Brothers Strong|the Brothers Strong]]. It is unclear how he was born, as his [[Wikipedia:Umbilicus|belly button]] (which normally indicates the removal of the [[Wikipedia:Umbilical cord|umbilical cord]] shortly after birth) was apparently created by [[Strong Bad]] using a drill that he received for his birthday. He stands somewhere between Strong Bad and [[Strong Mad]] in height, and he has large, elephant-like feet he calls "[[Soolnds|soolnds]]". (In the past, poachers have apparently offered large sums of money to obtain Strong Sad's feet.) His body is round and is two shades of grey—a lighter grey from the waist up, and darker grey from the waist down. Strong Sad's body makes the sound of a red gym ball when hit—and according to Strong Sad, it is hit often. His head is white and has an odd lump on the top, referred to as a "disturbing soft-serve flip" by Strong Bad in [[keep cool]] (a trait shared by [[Mr. Bland]]). He is usually very calm and soft-spoken, although he has become [[Hyperactive Strong Sad|hyperactive]] on occasion (at least once under the influence of caffeine), and he has also temporarily (and involuntarily) become a [[radio|radio DJ]] once or twice. Strong Sad's main defining characteristic is his chronic depression—his high level of intelligence and creativity are almost always overshadowed by it. His many interests include listening, books, listening to books, calligraphy, safety, being alone, arts, crafts, and arts [[b/w]] crafts. He has outstanding handwriting and often uses it in writing poetry, which he then recites at his own "poetry slams". Strong Sad is seen using both his right and left hands to write and play the guitar, implying that he is [[Left Handedness|ambidextrous]]. He has been seen practicing [[Wikipedia:T'ai Chi Ch'üan|T'ai Chi]]. Strong Sad also enjoys playing board games (especially with other board games), and he seems to enjoy going to science-fiction and fantasy conventions, as seen in [[different town]] and [[TrogdorCon '97]]. He has an [[Strong Sad's iPod|iPod]], and he occasionally updates his [[Strong Sad's Lament|blog]]. Strong Sad's highly philosophical view on life has creeped out other characters more than once, most notably Strong Bad and [[Marzipan]]. Strong Sad has a sort of "love-hate" relationship with his brother Strong Bad. In turn, Strong Sad often has a very low opinion of his brother and considers him to be a clueless weirdo, though nobody really seems to care most of the time what he thinks. Despite all of this, he seems to retain some degree of brotherly love toward his siblings: When the [[gimmicks|Tandy 400 exploded]], Strong Sad asked Strong Bad if he was all right. Also, while Strong Bad was [[Strong Bad is in Jail Cartoon|in jail]], Strong Sad wrote him a letter wishing him well, and adding that his brother's absence caused him to feel far happier with himself than usual and also that while Strong Bad was gone, he turned his brother's computer room into his tai chi space. He was also eager to help Strong Bad with his 150th e-mail in [[Sbemail 150?!?]] (he actually managed to provide the background music for Strong Bad's email intro in [[alternate universe]]).

'''Homsar''' is perhaps the strangest and most enigmatic of all the [[Characters#Main characters|main characters]] in the [[Homestar Runner (Flash cartoon)|Homestar Runner universe]]. He was originally created as a result of a typo in the [[Strong Bad Email|email]] [[homsar]], in which Vinnie C. asked, "If you hate homsar so much, why don't you kill him?" (Presumably, Vinnie had actually meant to type [[Homestar Runner|Homestar]].) [[Strong Bad]] promptly dropped a [[Heavy Lourde]] on Homsar and left him for [[Death|dead]]. [[The Brothers Chaps]] later decided to keep Homsar as a main character, and they brought him back in [[Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 5.0]], where he thanked [[Marzipan]] for the flowers she sent him while he was in the hospital.

Homsar occasionally makes brief appearances in various cartoons, but most of the time he appears only in Easter eggs (and has even been referred to as the "secret guy"). In every [[Holidays#Halloween (October 31st)|Halloween toon]] since his introduction, Homsar has appeared in an Easter egg somewhere in the middle of the Toon. (This is usually triggered by clicking somewhere on or near [[The Poopsmith]].)

Homsar doesn't have very many friends, outside of [[Strong Sad]] and Marzipan. Most of the other characters generally regard him as a nuisance. ==Distinctive Characteristics==

===Speech===
Homsar's most distinct characteristic is his unusual manner of speaking, which has varied over time. His tone of voice is generally quite exaggerated, and he often begins sentences by wailing "AaAAaaAAaaAAaa!". (In some cases, such as on [[Homsar Main Page]], this wailing affects the environment around him in strange ways.) His speech tends to range from perfectly normal English to often random and disconnected phrases that have little to no connection to the scene. Many believe that Homsar speaks in [[Wikipedia:Word salad (mental health)|word salads]] (a speech disorder characteristic of [[Wikipedia:Schizophrenia|schizophrenia]] in which grammar and sentence structure is intact, but the words have no particular meaning), but a [[Analysis of Homsar's Speech Patterns|detailed analysis of his speech patterns]] has shown that this is seldom the case. Instead, it seems that Homsar can and does relate well to his environment and other characters when he needs to, but is also prone to saying completely random things when there's no particular reason for him to stay in context.
Itispossible that Homsar does say comments that make sense just in different context. Eg: In the email [[cliffhangers]], while hanging off the cliff by a rope, he says "This dinner party is top dollar.", Possibly indicating heenjoys being where he is currently and what he is doing.

Although the viewer is frequently left to figure out what Homsar's statements mean, other characters tend to just accept his speech and usually seem to understand it. Strong Bad is so far the only character to point out that Homsar's speech is "just nonsense," and even then, he was using a pen puppet to illustrate his point rather than talking to Homsar directly. It has been argued that his unusual speech patterns are the result of being crushed by the Heavy Lourde, but considering that he was able to speak more or less normally when he called Marzipan after that event, this seems unlikely.

===Bowler Hat and Psychokinesis===
Another notable aspect of Homsar is that his yellow [[Bowler Hats|bowler hat]] can float. It appears that this hat, which levitates when Homsar speaks, is actually being manipulated, as opposed to just flying about on its own. Homsar is, after all, a character [[Lack of Visible Arms|lacking visible arms]]. A theory for this is that Homestar, and quite possibly the other characters lacking arms, have limited psychokinetic abilities. Support for this theory is not only the fact that Homsar's hat floats whenever he speaks, but that it can float even when he isn't. Homsar himself is even capable of levitation, as demonstrated in [[narrator]], his character video, [[A Folky Tale]], and [[Halloween Fairstival]]. Apart from levitation, Homsar can duplicate himself ([[Fall Float Parade]]), make a paintbrush ring like a bell ([[Homestar Presents: Presents]]), transmute his bowler hat into an engineer's cap ([[Homsar#Character Video Transcript|Character Video]]) and perhaps manipulate time ([[3 Times Halloween Funjob]]) and metamorphose ([[impression]]). (Homsar's supposed metamorphosis in impression is generally accepted to be just a very convincing costume by most people, however, but this cannot exactly be proven or disproven.) Indeed, it appears that the laws of both science and logic do not apply to him.

===Naming of Other Characters===
Homsar often assigns the other characters, including himself, strange names. This could be because he has forgotten their real names, is confused, or disregards their real names. These "names" are sometimes based on the character's appearance (Strong Sad: That Rhinoceros) or a similar-sounding name (Bubs: Tubbs). Others (Strong Bad: Reggie) just don't make much sense. This is assuming that he is speaking to/about these characters and that he is not just disoriented or believes he is talking to someone else.
