== Background Image ==

Okay, some questions about the greyscale field background:<BR>
#Where is the actual file located?<BR>
#Is there any interest in replacing it with the most up-to-date field/sky that TBC have been using?
#*If so, is there any interest in manipulating it to be a "tiling" background so that it would be seamless for use on any resolution?
#*If not, can we resize the existing one so that it's at least 1280 pixels wide? (1440 pixels wide would be my preference, actually)
Yes, most articles are large enough that the background is almost never seen, but for "young" talk pages it'd be nice for the background to get ''some'' pleasing visibility. IMHO. {{User:OptimisticFool/sig}} 07:46, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
:It's at [http://www.hrwiki.org/skins/monobook/headbg-kb.jpg www.hrwiki.org/skins/monobook/headbg-kb.jpg], 1250 pixels wide and 24kB large. My screen is 1680 pixels wide, and I don't think I noticed the [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=HRWiki:Sandbox&oldid=571751 awkward tiling] until now. I don't think we should make the image wider. It will increase the file size, and who knows when the next user comes with an even wider screen. But yeah, a version that repeats seamlessly ''would'' look better and might even reduce the file size. Having said that, I don't think it's too important to change, either ;-){{User:Loafing/sig}} 10:50, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
::Also, the image right now is 523 pixels in height. I don't think many HRWiki'ers use 800x600, so its height could be increased too, by adding to the sky... and there's plenty of sky to work with. That would make the field visible on the screen for longer. And having an increased-size jpeg can't be ''that'' much bigger. But unlike any given article image, I guess it is a file that's loaded by thousands more people so maybe that little increase could be a big deal. Anyway, a tiled background wouldn't be entirely authentic to TBC's work but could still make sense. And yes, I know it's not too important to change it, but I'm always [[User:OptimisticFool#WANTED|asking]] for a challenge (of the image variety). I'm going to play around with it for a bit. {{User:OptimisticFool/sig}} 17:02, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
::::I'm pretty sure the Wii's Internet Channel emulates an 800x600 screen as well. As for the tiling background issue, it definitely would look better if it were either widened or changed so that the tiling is seamless, though I don't think it's too important to change, as there aren't many pages on the wiki where we end up seeing the entire background image. {{User:Kilroy/sig}} 18:07, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
:::::The Widescreen setting on the Wii makes the resolution something else. Though my laptop is Hi-Definition. (which is wide) {{User:DrPepper42/sig}} 18:13, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
::::::::''{adds another colon anyway :D}'' Actually when you set the Wii to widescreen mode, the screen width stays at 800, but the height is changed to something else.. Thanks for the support so far, juys. Now here's what I suggest: Replace [http://www.hrwiki.org/skins/monobook/headbg-kb.jpg this 23.5k jpeg] with [http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1783/fieldgreyxd2.png this 11.2k png], thus turning [http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3047/fullbeforeiu5.png this] into [http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7641/fullafterpl8.png this]. I added some extra cloudless space at the top of the greyscaled image since it will always be completely covered up. <small>(There are two exceptions (that I can think of) to this: (1) someone blanks a page completely, and (2) a <nowiki><pre></nowiki> goes long, [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=HRWiki:Sandbox&oldid=571744 like this] (hint: scroll right).)</small> So, yeah, the extra space allows the background to be visible for longer. == Accepted Spelling ==

I think the wiki ought to be consistent in its spelling. Recently the spelling of [http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php?title=Weclome_Back&diff=prev&oldid=573690 donut/doughnut] reminded me of this. Another one is [[Talk:bedtime story#Gummi vs. Gummy|gummi/gummy]]. Has the broad subject of consistency in spelling been brought up before? I think it kind of goes in the category of flavor/flavour, as well. Another one that comes to mind is y'all/ya'll. So, do we or should we have a page to list our "decisions" regarding spelling, with its accompanying talk page available to reach a consensus for each of these and others? {{User:OptimisticFool/sig}} 23:02, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
:Such things would probably go under [[HRWiki:Manual of Style#Spelling]]. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 23:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
::As a general rule, we spell it like TBC do. If they have not spelled it out, or they have been inconsistent (and we always agree with their spelling in related situations) then we generally use the most accepted spelling based on what evidence we can collect. "Doughnut", IMO, trumps "donut" which is clearly a shortened, slang form. "Y'all" is the correct form; however, we use "ya'll" when TBC do. == Search Engine Addition In Firefox ==

Firefox cuts off the search engine name, and labels it as '''Homestar Runner Wiki (En''' is there any discussion or whatnot to have the name of the wiki shortened so that it fits? Because it's annoying to see that I can still add '''Homestar Runner Wiki (English)''' to the search engines list (The search box also says a new search engine can be added even though I've already added this engine.) You can always bring it up over at Mozilla.com's bugzilla or something, but I'm sure the bug will immediately be marked as invalid. I'm also sure they'll mark it as an invalid enhancement, and state that "The website can shorten its name, there's NO reason why it isn't possible for them to shorten that name."

For instance, Why not use HRWiki as a name? {{User:Iyeru/sig}}
:I don't get why it should annoy you. That being said, there's no reason for the wiki to shorten its title to something less descriptive just so you can have the full name in your search bar. If you care so much, download the source code to firefox and change the code yourself. As for the "Add Homestar Runner Wiki (English)" still being there, that happens with all search engines. Go to any site that you already have on that list, it will do the same thing. Basically, none of what you said has anything to do with us. {{User:DeFender1031/sig}} 23:42, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
For example, go to any random page that has a search box on it, (say, https://addons.mozilla.org/) Check that drop-down and you'll see what I mean.</strike> (Post edit conflict note: the other issue is aethetic, the name for the wiki is wider than the space Firefox displays it in). {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 02:14, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
:::::Ignore the first part, I see the problem now. I'm guessing that because the truncated string doesn't match the full string, Firefox doesn't properly detect that you've ''already'' added the search. {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 02:17, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
::::::Qermaq, it's an issue that the firefox search bar only allows names of up to 24 characters. He's suggesting that the wiki shorten its name so it fits, inconveniencing others but fixing his minor annoyance. GreenGuy, no, he's saying it's there even though he's added it already. He's right, this bug in FF causes this as well, but it's a FF problem, and i don't see any reason for the wiki to change to suit one person with one glitchy program. {{User:DeFender1031/sig}} 02:17, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
:::::::I see the issue. It's not an issue. It's just a bug in FF3 and will likely be corrected down the road. I fail to see the negative consequence of this behavior, though. You can select "'''Homestar Runner Wiki (En'''" and type in, as I did, "sbemail50" and it works. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 02:22, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
::::::::I can see how it would be a minor annoyance, but seriously... {{User:DeFender1031/sig}} 02:25, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
:::::::::I see now. Anyway, yeah I'd say just deal with it (24 is a very small limit to impose, I wouldn't be surprised if the mozzerella coders increase that in future releases). {{User:GreenHelmet/sig}} 02:42, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
::Lemme clear up a few things. I'm probably not even supposed to say half of this, but since no one else will...
:::1) Ramrod did pull a prank, but it ws well-known what was going on between all of the active mod team. He was eventually de-admined due to a misunderstanding. - the "senior admins", Stu, Dot Com and Tom, assumed his account had been hacked and removed him in haste.
:::2) The uproar among users caused by his removal from the administration was a large reason as to why the forum was locked. Dot Com, Stu, and/or Tom put it into read-only mode so that all angered suers would calm down.
:::3) Stu resigned from his place as an admin a few days after the forum was locked.
:::4) The H*R themed boards are planned to re-open. The Off-Subject boards will not, and will remain locked as an archive.
:::5) We moderators have no idea as to why the forum is still locked, as I am fairly certain everything that needed to be sorted out was done so long ago. Dot Com has not responded to any of our recent questions, nor has he said when the forum is planned to re-open.
::Hope that answers a few of your questions - Ju Ju Master.
:::I have no inside knowledge here, but let me make a suggestion. CHILL. If the forums reopen too soon, there will be a fountain of drama. No one worth considering wants that. So it may take a while for things to simmer. Be patient. A watched pot never boils. Ignore it, and when you least expect it all will be right. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 08:12, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
::::Too soon? It's been three weeks. I've been a mod there for a year, no event0based drama lasts more than 24 hours after the event. And you can't supress stuff like that. It'll end up somewhere, no matter how long you wait. Besides, anyone who could potentially cause drama has moved to a whole new forum. - Ju Ju Master
:::Qermaq: I do not believe that telling Ju Ju to chill was warranted. Many of the "regular" users on the HRWF--users that have been there for years, and chose to visit both the Homestar and Off Subject sections of the place--were stirred up when this conflict came up, and since many of the Wiki users posting in this discussion section do not seem to understand the situation too well, Ju Ju chose to inform everybody about what exactly went down. I have to agree with him: three weeks is definitely enough of a cool-down time, especially since the Off Subject sections have been known to be permanently locked since nearly the beginning of this issue.
:::It is obvious that the HRWF will never be the same, and it is obvious that many of the regular users to the HRWF are now happier with a better system over at a new message board, and will definitely not go back to the place. Personally, with this change now solidified, I am happy that we have gone our separate ways; the HRWF as just a discussion board for Homestar Runner has never been done before, and I am sure that it will grow in its own way, as our other board grows in its own. - DS_Kid

Further, we'd probably run out fairly quickly if we did articles every day instead of every week. We only have about 1900. Even if we could find something to write on every article, we'd run out in about 5 years. And then what would we do? --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]] 06:59, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Why are there three non-talk page links to the [[The Lucky Yates Show - 3 Nov 2007|Lucky Yates Show]], but the article had never been created? I would create it, but I've never heard of the Lucky Yates Show. {{User:Homestar-winner/sig}} 21:33, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
::I don't link any red links look good. Could we remove them? {{User:Homestar-winner/sig}} 21:51, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
:::My take: a red link indicates that we ''should'' have an article about a subject, but nobody's created it yet. I think we should leave them, and hopefully somebody with some information will come across one of those links and create the page. {{User:Trey56/sig}} 21:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
:Currently there isn't. The current template ({{tl|Podstar download}}) is just for creating external links in articles. Also, since podcasts are basically downloadable versions of existing content (and not exactly embedded media), I'm not sure if it's absolutely necessary to include a direct link, especially since both the [[Podstar Runner]] and toon pages would contain links. --[[User:Stux|Stux]] 20:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
:Generally people in this position should post on a sysop's talk page - probably the sysop who blocked them - petitioning their block. Though, to be honest, I have seen very few blocks, if any at all, which have not been entirely reasonable. The few which were not were quickly corrected. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 12:51, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
::Note also that, unlike at Wikipedia, our software is not set up to allow blocked users to edit their own talk pages. ''{Cut to The King of Town, Coach Z and Bubs.}''

'''COACH Z:''' Oh jeez, I don't know, I think I prefer his work with the Furious 5 much more. Uh, he had more street cred back then...

''{Homestar walks by, and continues to do so throughout the scene.}''

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Hey, thanks for coming to my party guys. Ahh, Coach Z is down with the PE! ''{Coach Z dances to Homestar's second remark.}''

''{Switch to Strong Bad, Strong Mad and The Cheat.}''

'''STRONG BAD:''' ...ya know, I think it turned out pretty good. I mean Mom helped me do the fruit ''{gestures to hat}'', and I did the sewing—

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Oh, lookin' good, Strong Bad. The Chiquita Banana lady, that's great!

'''STRONG BAD:''' Oooh, Chiquita Ba—?! ''{shouting}'' For the last time, I'm Carmen freakin' Miranda!

''{Switch to Marzipan, Strong Sad, Pom Pom and The Poopsmith, who is bobbing for pumpkins. He picks up a pumpkin and spits it into the bucket twice.}''

'''MARZIPAN:''' Yesterday, I was out in the garden, and I was weeding, and there was this little worm...

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Aww, everybody looks so great! ''{stops walking}'' You know, there's more punch over there, if anybody... wants any. All riiiiiight, everybody! Line up! ''{holds up flashlight}'' We're gonna play ''{clicks flashlight on and off}'' Flashlight Ghost Storytelling with a Flashliiight! ''{thunder booms}''

'''MARZIPAN:''' We should stand boy-girl-boy-girl. ''{thunder booms, organ sting}''

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Good one, Marzipan! That way we know it's fair!

'''MARZIPAN:''' I get to stand next to you, Homestar.

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Nope. I'm standin' next to Bubs. You get to stand next to Strong Baaad. ''{walks away}''

'''MARZIPAN:''' ''{gasps}'' Uh!

'''STRONG BAD:''' Psst! ''{whispering}'' Hey, Marzipan... is my slip showing?

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Okay, okay, okay! I'll go first.

''{A circle forms around him so his picture is now an inset of a new scene.}''

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' Umm... okay! Once, there was this green gobliiiin... ''{a goblin appears}'' and um, he used to... look aroooound... ''{the goblin looks around}'' And um, I guess he did a daaance. ''{the goblin dances}'' Oh man, that was terrible.

''{Homestar passes the flashlight to Bubs.}''

'''BUBS:''' And, the goblin, he had a Gremlin! And he jacked it up on some fat tires, and uh, and he tuned it up on some 4.11 positrak out back, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bore over 30, 11-to-1 pop-up pistons turbo jets 390 horsepower! I mean, he had some freakin' muscle!

''{Bubs passes the flashlight to Pom Pom.}''

'''POM POM:''' ''{Pom Pom makes bubbling noises throughout his segment.}''

''{A giggling blonde girl in a pink bikini with a Pom head appears next to the Gremlin, as well as a redhead with a blue bikini and a brunette in a leopard-pattern bikini, followed by beer and sports paraphernalia. Pom Pom passes the flashlight to Marzipan.}''

'''MARZIPAN:''' One of the girls had a cute little kitten named Kitty-kitty.

''{A cat appears beside the girl on the left.}''

'''MARZIPAN:''' The other girl had a cute little puppy named Chris.

''{A dog appears beside the girl on the right.}''

'''MARZIPAN:''' And then the third girl was a Republican.

''{A Republican Party Elephant sign appears in the hand of the girl on the Gremlin.}''

'''STRONG BAD:''' Oh, brother! Gimme that! ''{snatches the flashlight from Marzipan}'' So then the robot came&mdash;

''{The Visor Robot appears onscreen, to the right.}''

'''STRONG BAD:''' &mdash;and he started vaporizing everybody with his vapor-gun! ''{the Visor Robot begins doing just that}'' And he was like "You take this, and you'd better, you, and you take this, everybody's gonna die!" And then he said, "Oh, the Gremlin! I hate the Goblin Gremlin! Bah!"

''{The Visor Robot kicks the Gremlin over the trees.}''

'''STRONG BAD:''' I need to get some more punch.

''{Strong Bad passes the flashlight to the King of Town and walks off}''

'''THE KING OF TOWN:''' Oooh, oooh!

''{The Visor Robot and Goblin stand across from each other and all the food appears that the KOT mentions in between them.}''

'''THE KING OF TOWN:''' And there was fried fish and heavenly ham and Salisbury sundaes and globs of meringue and strawberry frosted donuts and bowls full of jelly and Klondike pudding and scrumptious fillers... and—DOO! DOO-HOO-HOO-HOO-HOO!

''{All the food inexplicably disappears. The King passes the flashlight to Strong Sad and hurries off.}''

'''STRONG SAD:''' And so it turns out the robot had a human brain which was stolen from a kindly old man. And the children of that old man came to the robot looking for their father, and they called out to him.

''{Speech bubble with an exclamation point in it appears on the girl.}''

'''STRONG SAD:''' And the robot's human brain remembered his children and his stolen life, and he was moved to tears. ''{robot starts to cry.}'' But the tears shorted out his circuits, and fried his brain. ''{Electric bolts appear on the Visor Robot's head}'' And the robot toppled over, and he crushed his children, and the Goblin, too. ''{Visor Robot falls on them and his brain comes out.}'' And none of them lived.

''{Cut to Bubs, Coach Z, and The King of Town crying.}''

'''COACH Z:''' ''{crying}'' Oh, jeez, what a total downer! ''{they walk away, still crying}''

'''STRONG BAD:''' Oh man, I'm outta here!

'''MARZIPAN:''' ''{crying}'' That's the saddest story I've ever heard! You can't come to next year's party.

''{Marzipan walks away crying, while The Poopsmith sighs deeply and also walks away.}''

'''HOMESTAR RUNNER:''' ''{sadly}'' Gee... thanks for coming to my party, Strong Sad. ''{sighs, walks away.}''

''{Everyone except Strong Sad leaves, and crickets start chirping. An owl hoots and a far-off wolf howls. Strong Sad clicks the flashlight on and off a few times, then the screen fades.}''

== Fun Facts ==
===Trivia===
*With nine deaths, this cartoon has a higher body count than any other cartoon on the website, including [[Teen Girl Squad]].
*This is the only time Coach Z is seen with a full complement of fingers.
*Strong Mad, The Cheat, The Poopsmith, and Coach Z never contributed to the ghost story, but the Poopsmith probably doesn't contribute to the story on purpose, courtesy of his vow of silence.
*This toon was "Written, drawn, and directed by Matt, Mike, and Craig". This is most likely [[Craig Zobel]].
*According to [[Strong Bad is in Jail Cartoon]], the spooky trees in the background are just next to [[Bubs' Concession Stand]].
*Coach Z's clock reads 3:57.
*This toon marks the first appearances of The Goblin, who has become something of a Halloween toon staple, as well as the [[Gremlin]], Pom Pom's Girls, the Visor Robot, and the Sad Kids, which have all later reappeared in several toons.

===Remarks===
*Marzipan suggests they should line up boy-girl-boy-girl. She is the only girl, making this difficult. Strong Bad crossdressing could allow him to be considered a girl, but if so he shouldn't stand next to Marzipan.

===Goofs===
*The birthmark on Strong Sad as [[Wikipedia:Mikhail Gorbachev|Gorbachev]] is on the wrong side of his head.
*When Homestar turns the flashlight on and off for Flashlight Ghost Storytelling with a Flashlight, his face isn't illuminated any better, so much as the rest of his body is cast into shadow.
*When Strong Sad turns the flash light on & off at the end, his hands do not move.
*When Marzipan is weeping as she leaves, her mouth doesn't move. Also, Homestar's mouth doesn't move when he sighs.
*The Goblin's pupils shrink when he turns his head to look at the second girl.
*After the robot kicks the Gremlin, the front loses the double bumper.

===Inside References===
*The dog "Chris" looks suspiciously like [[Rejected Characters#Trivia Time|Trivia Time]].

===Real-World References===
*Coach Z's opening line references the [[Wikipedia: Furious Five|Furious Five]], a pioneering rap group in the early 80's. The specific artist Coach Z refers to could either be [[Wikipedia:Grandmaster Flash|Grandmaster Flash]], the original leader of the Furious Five, or [[Wikipedia:Grandmaster Melle Mel|Grandmaster Melle Mel]], who led the group after Flash's departure.
*Bubs's description of the Gremlin is [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106677/quotes quoted] almost directly from the movie ''[[IMDB:tt0106677|Dazed And Confused]]''.
*The [[Wikipedia:flux capacitor|flux capacitor]] visible on the Gremlin is a reference to the ''[[IMDB:tt0088763|Back to the Future]]'' movies.
*Strong Sad turning the flashlight on and off is possibly an homage to the movie ''[[imdb:tt0111149|Shallow Grave]]'', in which Christopher Eccleston's character turns a flashlight on and off into his face while spiralling into insanity.
*Homestar's shirt says "corporate rock still sucks", which is the motto of [[Wikipedia:SST Records|SST Records]], a favorite record label of Cobain's. Cobain once wore a shirt parodying the slogan on a famous [[Wikipedia:Rolling Stone|Rolling Stone]] [http://i.rollingstone.com/assets/rs/110/76/images/23060_lg.jpg cover] saying "Corporate Magazines still suck". Also, his shoes look a lot like [[Chuck Taylor All-Stars]], which the video for [[Wikipedia:Smells Like Teen Spirit|Smells Like Teen Spirit]] helped to repopularize.
**It's also possibly a nod to certain ''[http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/TSHIRTS/NV204.jpg Nirvana shirts]''
*Homestar's line "Coach Z is down with the PE" is a reference to the [[Wikipedia:Public Enemy|Public Enemy]] song "Burn Hollywood Burn", wherein guest-rapper [[Wikipedia:Ice Cube|Ice Cube]] raps "Ice Cube is down with the PE".
**This could be a play on words; PE could also stand for physical education, as Coach Z is indeed a coach.
*[[Wikipedia: Edelbrock|Edelbrock]] is a seller of performace parts for [[Wikipedia: automobile|automobiles]].

===Fast Forward===
*Marzipan's line, "You can't come to next year's party," was revisited in [[The House That Gave Sucky Treats]], when Marzipan said, "I like your costume, Strong Sad, but you weren't invited this year."
*The music that was used for the Flashlight Ghost Storytelling Using a Flashlight was used again in The House That Gave Sucky Treats and the Strong Bad e-mail [[theme park]] during "The Strong Sad Gets Decked Repeatedly Stunt Spooktacular".
*A slight variation of Homestar's "Corporate Rock Still Sucks" (the motto of SST Records) shirt was worn by Strong Sad in [[geddup noise]], which said "Corporate The Geddup Noise Still Sucks".
*In this cartoon in one scene you see the Poopsmith bobbing for pumpkins and grabbing a pumpkin in his mouth, which was later used as an easter egg in [[The House That Gave Sucky Treats]] by putting a pumpkin in the Poopsmith's mouth to see Homsar.
'''MATT:''' ''{laughs}'' "Every single ''{clears his throat conspicuously}'' wanna see me."
'''MIKE:''' Ohh, interesting.

'''MATT:''' Yeah.

'''MIKE:''' Uh, The Cheat's costume, while he looks pretty good, wasn't very involved. It's just a pair of glasses... Garfield-looking glasses.

'''MATT:''' He has a very authentic Pooky, though... ''{Mike chuckles}'' for sure.

'''MIKE:''' I think the Mikhail Gorbachev still may be my favorite costume.

'''MATT:''' It's a good one.

'''MIKE:''' Although ''his'' glasses don't have any, uh...

'''MATT:''' ''{laughs}'' They're just taped to his face.

'''MIKE:''' And I think the Marzipan genie costume might be the least thought-out&mdash;

'''MATT:''' Yeah. We just&mdash;

'''MIKE:''' It was the first one, but, everyone else's costumes are pretty good.

'''MATT:''' Yeah. Yeah.

'''MIKE:''' Cap'n Crunch, that's a good... Ooh, Marzipan's old mouth.

'''MATT:''' ''{softly}'' Ooh, the&mdash; Oh... I don't think Kurt Cobain had that stringy of&mdash; his hair was that stringy.

'''MIKE:''' I don't&mdash; Our friend Craig made that hair.

'''MATT:''' Did he really? I didn't remember that. I know that Craig made the ladies, the hot ladies that show up in Pom Pom's story later on.

'''MIKE:''' Yeah, he made, he made&mdash;

'''MATT:''' Did he make that headdress on, uh, the fruit basket headdress?

'''MIKE:''' No... I made that.

'''MATT:''' Oh. It looks good. Oh yeah, you drew that and scanned it in, didn't you?

'''MIKE:''' Yeah.

'''MATT:''' I think we still have the drawing of that in the old sketchbook.

'''MIKE:''' So Matt one time when he was... what do you think, you were three maybe?

'''MATT:''' Uh, nnnnyeah, may&mdash; four.

'''MIKE:''' Yeah.

'''MATT:''' Four, probably four. It was right when we moved to Atlanta.

'''MIKE:''' There was his Halloween costume, it was this big inflatable head that you sort of have attached with this headgear of this Martian. Yeah, goblin?

'''MATT:''' He was a goblin, not a Martian, he was a gween gobolin.

'''MIKE:''' Our dad was interviewing him on Super 8, and said, "What do you dress up?" ''{imitating Matt's young, high-pitched voice}'' "''A gween gobolin!''"

'''MATT:''' It was true, man.

'''MATT:''' Good job, us!

'''MIKE:''' Who were we fooling?!

'''MATT:''' No one! ''{pause}'' These ladies are a little risqué for the website, honestly.

'''MIKE:''' ''{laughs}''

'''MATT:''' Craig made them way too hot.

'''MIKE:''' Especially the way that one's kinda twisting her ankle like that.

'''MATT:''' Yeah, she's&mdash;

'''MIKE:''' Look, she's funneling beers too!

'''MATT:''' They're party girls. Pom Pom's into the party girls. ''{pause}'' I remember Melissa made all these things up and I was amazed by her improvisational talents.

'''MIKE:''' ''{chuckles}''

'''MATT:''' I don't think I&mdash; I don't think I still&mdash; I didn't really like Melissa at that time, and I was really impressed. Naw, I was kidding. I liked Melissa plenty. ''{pause}'' He hates the Goblin Gremlin, Mike. ''{pause}'' Heh, the weird King of Town voice.

'''MIKE:''' ''{laughs}''

'''MIKE:''' I don't know why&mdash;

'''MATT:''' ''{pause}'' There's a lot of things that were invented from this cartoon: the goblin, the sad kids, that robot&mdash; the Visor Robot appeared.

'''MIKE:''' The Visor Robot.

'''MIKE:''' I dunno, I think the wiki&mdash; I didn&mdash; ''We'' didn't name it the Visor Robot, did we?

'''MATT:''' No.

'''MIKE:''' But I ''call'' it the Visor Robot, ''{in a funny voice}'' don't I, Matt?

'''MATT:''' ''{in a funny voice similar to Coach Z's}'' Yeah, you do; you gotta listen to that wiki, Mike!

'''MIKE:''' I like, watch the brain slide here.

'''MATT:''' Yeah, I did this part. ''{pause}'' Those squashed kids look pretty terrible. ''{both laugh}'' Not even sure how that works.

'''MIKE:''' Oh, Bubs has arms again!

'''MATT:''' ''{laughs}'' Good, see&mdash; he only has pointy fingers.

'''MIKE:''' Oh yeah, he's got ''fingers''. Yeah, Coach Z&mdash; 'Cause he says, uh, "the Furious 5", right?

'''MATT:''' Yeah, I think so. Well, he was just pointing too, when he's rapping, when he says, "Coach Z is down with the PE." But, now he just has mittens. ''{Mike laughs}'' He has never shown his fingers again. Maybe those are&mdash;

'''MIKE:''' He's never shown his true fingers before.

'''MATT:''' Maybe he's just wearing those on top of his mittens as part of his costume. We're really consistent, everybody! We think this stuff through ahead of time; we have a ten-year plan for the website...!

'''MIKE:''' ''{wolf howls in the cartoon}'' Hey, that's Matt.
===CREEPING floating DEATH flashlight===
When everyone is telling ghost stories, no one actually holds the flashlight with his or her hands. It just sort of floats in front of everyone. With Homestar, Marzipan, and the King of Town, this makes sense, since none of them have visible hands, but we should see everybody else's hands.

*'''Decline''' I suppose that they couldn't be seen holding the flashlight, but their arms could be behind the black circle, so...nope. --[[User:acekirby13|acekirby13]] 17:59, 10 Apr 2005 (MDT)
Would it be appropriate to link to the H*R Store in articles which cover purchase-only content? As is we link to the official Flash on other content available on the website. Hi everypeople, I need your help creating a new running gag page. I noticed that in two toons a character mutter jump jumping. In [[alternate universe]] Strong Bad does before jumping to the portal and Old Timey Strong Bad before jumping to the root beer. In [[the paper]] Strong Bad mutter it before jumping the sinking island to grab The Paper. I'm sure there are at least several other emails like that but I can't seem to find them. Can someone please help? {{User:E.L. Cool/sig}} 03:23, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
== "rv; TTATOT" ==

We all see this edit summary from time to time, but I think it isn't really a good idea to write it. Keeping in mind that the edit summary in a revert is partly to let the editor you reverted know why you reverted, using an initialism that isn't all that common is likely to be confusing, especially since most TTATOT edits come from anonnies and new users. Better, in my opinion, would be to say "rv; that could refer to lots of things" or something like that. {{User:Heimstern Läufer/sig}} 19:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
:I agree. I don't write it often (usually spelling it out), but the initials aren't helpful. Searching for it will lead to the [[HRWiki:Glossary|glossary]] entry for T, but I doubt many of them who DO see it and become confused think to search it. --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]] 19:41, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
::You ''are'' able to link [[TTATOT]] in your edit summary. &mdash;[[User:BazookaJoe|BazookaJoe]] 19:51, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
:::Better, but still not as informative for newbies as an edit summary with no jargon. {{User:Heimstern Läufer/sig}} 19:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
::::I firmly disagree. One, this is jargon, but it's rather commonplace jargon which, once learned, is portable to many online fora, including other wikis. Two, the linked [[TTATOT]] leads to a full explanation of what it means, so anyone who is confused by the initialism can simply follow the link. Three, I'd surmise less than half the people whose edits have been reverted on the grounds of TTATOT actually saw the edit summary anyway. It's a concise means to convey the reason, it cannot lead to misunderstanding when a link is provided to the explanation, and I don't recall seeing any discussion on the wiki regarding confusion over the term. The only change I would recommend would be for TTATOT to no longer redirect to the Glossary, but to lead to a dedicated page where users can learn what makes a fact TTATOT and how they can avoid it. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 02:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
:::::I still believe it is better to avoid the jargon in revert summaries completely (discussions are a different matter, mind you). But as long as it's made clear where to learn what it means, it won't make problems. {{User:Heimstern Läufer/sig}} 01:38, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
:::::I also want to point out that TTATOT is ''not'' that common jargon. I certainly had not come across it in other fora, though once explained, the meaning is clear enough. I would agree with Heimstern that avoiding jargon, and being clear for the reason for reverts is the best policy. {{User:Wbwolf/sig}} 04:06, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
::::::If it is linked in the summary, ala [[TTATOT]], is that objectionable? The meaning is readily accessible. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 04:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
::::::: Better, but still preferable not to. Even something like "Nitpicking" would be better. {{User:Wbwolf/sig}} 04:49, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
::::::::If you think nitpicking means the same as [[TTATOT]] I suggest you look at the definition. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 04:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
:::::::::Perhaps a standard edit summary that encompasses both notions would be a suitable compromise? After all the edit summary can accommodate pretty lengthy entries. For example: ''rv; That could refer to lots of things. See [[TTATOT]].'' That way they get a concise explanation ''and'' a more detailed explanation in the page. Everybody happy. We could even provide the code to this summary in the expanded [[TTATOT]] page for copy/paste usage as well: <code><nowiki>rv; That could refer to lots of things. See [[TTATOT]].</nowiki></code> What say ye all? --[[User:Stux|Stux]] 16:30, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
First off, I just want to say, I've been a user here a long time and JUST NOW LEARNED what TTATOT means (I normally just associated it with "no"). And I think Stux's idea is good. Although, (not reading the above paragraph or so of text because it's too long) I assume this won't be a "you get warned on your talk page if you don't do this" standard, but more of an editing suggestion. {{User:Bluebry/sig}} 17:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
:It sounds like for some reason Firefox thinks that the PHP used with MediaWiki is a program (that's what it means when it says application/octet-stream). My first suggestion would be clear your cache (Preferences -> Advanced -> Network). If that doesn't solve the problem, you might want to see if the file association is messed up. Go to the Content tab in Preferences and click on the Manage button under File Types. If PHP is listed there, delete it. Last resort would be to locate the cache or preferences and delete them manually; the file might be corrupt and that's why it is giving you the strange result. {{User:Wbwolf/sig}} 00:38, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
::Protecting those pages would be possible, but it wouldn't solve anything. There are several rare but legitimate reasons for a non-sysop to edit someone else's user page, and there's no reason to remove that functionality just because some people can't play nice. If we protected the entire user namespace, then there would just be more vandalism in the other namespaces. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 19:58, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
== Guitar Hero ==
I used a boneheaded Edit Summary, let me say something here. If "Guitar Hero" is shown to include this song, then we can add the fact. But as 1) it's highly unlikely Trogdor would be included amidst other well-established rock songs and 2) I can't seem to find mention of this on the Internet aside from chat room wishes, I removed it. If you can cite a source, add it back. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 09:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
:I played Guitar Hero 2 at a friend's house last night, they had an advanced release version. It is included in a bonus track section. Trogdor (specifically the Limozeen version) is in Guitar Hero 2.
::Here's proof of the song being in at least a prerelease copy of Guitar Hero 2, from a thread on the official GH2 forums: [http://www.photodump.com/direct/bjeaves/DSC00053.jpg link to image]

:::::According to [[Wikipedia:Guitar Hero II|Wikipedia]], "While the bonus tracks have not been revealed to date by Red Octane or Harmonix, the following list of bonus songs was revealed from a Guitar Hero forum post on October 24, 2006 based on screen shots from a game kiosk running the full version of Guitar Hero 2." It's not official information. Additionally, the Wikipedia page is headed with a "likely to contain information of a speculative nature" proviso. Thus, I don't believe it's prudent at this time to include this information as if it were fact when even Wikipedia does not claim it to be verified. Therefore, I am going to revert this information. :::I think, personally, if it is real we should wait until the game is OUT. The fourth doesn't cite any source at all, and is on a site where anyone can post anything... though they probably heard it (directly or indirectly) from that same forum post. I'm not saying that it's probably false, it's probably true that it's in there. I just agree with Qermaq that it'd be prudent to wait until the game is actually released and it can be independently confirmed before including the information here. All we have to base this on is a post on a forum on the Internet, and a flurry of websites quoting that post. If there was even a second primary source, someone else who's played this preview version and can confirm that Trogdor is there, I'd probably reconsider putting it on the page. {{User:Phlip/sig}} 16:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
::::::Here's the reason as I understand it: for whatever reason, the GH2 demo contains all (or most) of the bonus tracks in the final game. The bonus tracks are hidden on the menu, but they can be unlocked using a third-party modification. This mod makes the game think that it is loading one track (in this case "Madhouse") when it is actually loading the files for another (in this case Trogdor).
:Actually, I think that's it to date. (In alternate universe Strong Bad also does it in the Strong Badman segment, however.) {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 04:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
== "rv; TTATOT" ==

== Email Intros ==

Is it necessary for us to make a page like this (I forget what they're called):
<blockquote>Email Intros can refer to any of the following:
*[[Strong Bad Email Intros]] &mdash; An up-to-date list featuring the openings for every [[Strong Bad Email]] ever made.
*[[Email Intros, Part One]] &mdash; A video from [[strongbad_email.exe Disc One]] that included the openings for the first 100 Emails.
*[[Email Intros, Part Two]] &mdash; A video from [[strongbad_email.exe Disc Five]] that included the openings for emails 101-160.</blockquote>
:A disambiguation page, you mean? --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]] 04:04, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
::Yeah, that's it! Do you think it's necessary to make an Email Intros one? [[User:Bad Bad Guy|Bad Bad Guy]] 04:19, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
:::Actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. It certainly cleans up the disambig at the top. Although, the top part isn't really all that big just yet... Hmm. Also, there may be the idea that [[Email Intros]] doesn't actually include "Part 1" in its name. (On the other hand, does Part 2 contain Part 2 in its name? I dun have the DVD yet, so...) --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]] 04:23, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
::::According to the article for that DVD, the featurette does not have "pt. 2" in its name. [[User:Bad Bad Guy|Bad Bad Guy]] 00:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
:::::Maybe we should change the 2nd sentence to something like, ''For other uses, see [[Email Intros (disambigulation)]],'' with the article name unchanged. [[User:Bad Bad Guy|Bad Bad Guy]] 23:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
::::::I'm gonna write it now. [[User:Bad Bad Guy|Bad Bad Guy]] 02:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

:::::::I'm not sure that forcing people to click on two things (going to the disambiguation page, then going to the article they want) is better then having the simple note at the top of each article. We moved to in-article disambiguation a while back and it has worked quite well for us, especially with the use of {{tl|about}}/{{tl|for}}/{{tl|for-nothe}}/[[:Category:For Disambiguation Templates|etc]].&nbsp;-- [[User:Tom|Tom]] 03:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Since it's known TBC are visiting the wiki from time to time, maybe some kind of note on the main page might be a nice surprise.
== Toons? ==

Don't you think [[toons]] should be placed under features? Toons are like one of the main parts of [[Homestarrunner.com]]. It just doesn't seem right without them. I'm not sure if i should be '''bold''' or not, but i'm going to do it any ways, it can be fixed later if someone doesn't like it. --{{User:Kanjiro/sig}} 20:52, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
:Toons are already up at the top (Toons! Games! Characters!). We don't need it listed twice. --[[User:DorianGray|DorianGray]] 20:56, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
::Agree w/ DG. Toons is more than a feature. It's a broad category of what is on the site, and thus is prominently linked above the Features. {{User:Qermaq/sig}} 21:02, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
