What's wrong with Wyoming, NotWyoming? I've heard it's pretty good. Superman even thinks so. — It's dot com 02:52, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey NotWyoming, here's a tip for tilde-challenged keyboards. Just above the editing window, you should see a series of icons that automatically insert wikitext for you. The one second from the right will insert two hyphens plus four tildes, which you can use for signing. Hope that helps! — It's dot com 04:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Anyway, I'm terribly unused to wikis. It's going to be interesting making updates on the computer with the keyboard that has the broken tilde key. Can I get away with typing tildetildetildetilde? Probably not.
Then there was this other time when I was at a friend's house, and she was cooking one of those frozen pizza things. She wasn't paying attention and didn't put it in right, and it got disgusting and soggy. Then there was this other other time, and my dad was making a pizza while I was talking to him, and he accidentally used way more garlic than the recipe called for. It was awful! == Using Show Preview ==
Hello, and thanks for contributing to the HRWiki. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks. 22:14, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Heya! I know the guy who did that animation you put on your user page. He calls himself Patrick D. and he's kinda annoyed that he never gets credit for his stuff. I think he'd appreciate it if you gave him credit somewhere. He has a website called Creative Worlds, you might like it. =) - 00:20, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

:I'm not sure what animation you are referring to, but I'm sure I speak for the whole wiki when I say that attribution is always a wise choice. So long as it's accurate! 00:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
:It's usually the uploader's obligation to look into ownership, copyright and credits, and then spell it out in the image description. Cool Tapes.exe didn't upload it, so (s)he is not the one to complain to ;-) Anyways, thanks for the heads-up, NotWyoming.

Y'know what? You're right. Patrick D., if you're reading this, awesome Kirby GIF, man. Peace out. -CT.EXE
:It's usually the uploader's obligation to look into ownership, copyright and credits, and then spell it out in the image description. Cool Tapes.exe didn't upload it, so (s)he is not the one to complain to ;-) Anyways, thanks for the heads-up, NotWyoming. I've added a link to the source to the image description. 01:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Using Show Preview
Hello, and thanks for contributing to the HRWiki. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks. 22:14, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I was just reading the virus transcript and noticed that someone made a mistake on the part where Strong Sad turns into his character card. It looked like this: character cards. So I decided to fix it by putting "[[Character Cards|" before the mistake so that it looked like this: character cards.

One of the ultimate mysteries of HomestarRunner.com is that Homestar Runner, Marzipan, The King of Town, Homsar, and many other characters all lack visible arms and hands. In spite of this, they have the ability to pick stuff up and carry it around. The most common explanations for the phenomenon are that they either have invisible arms or can manipulate objects with some kind of psychokinesis. Usually none of the other characters seem to pay attention to this curiosity, although sometimes their lack of arms is referenced.

References
*Armless Invaders — Homestar is the titular "armless invader".
*Email vacation — Strong Bad imagines, in a hypothetical email from Monkey D, "How does Homestar pick stuff up if he's not wearing any Marzi-pants?"
*Email action figure — Homestar's action figure box reads "No arms! Like real life!"
*The Interview — Strong Bad refers to Homestar as a "no-armed whitey".
*Email fingers — Homestar makes himself a pair of fake arms.
*Strong Bad is a Bad Guy — Strong Mad starts to say that Homestar doesn't have arms, but is cut off by the end of the cartoon.
*Stinkomanual — Level 5's intro reads, "1-Up takes matters into his own, um, torso!"
*No Hands On Deck! — Homestar's lack of hands, which comes with his lack of arms, is referred to in the title and in a newspaper headline within the toon.

Oddities
*In Search of the Yello Dello — Marzipan slaps Homestar across the face, leaving a visible handprint.
**In the commentary, Strong Bad says that Marzipan has really nice hands and Homestar replies, "Yeah, I suppose she does."
*The Reddest Radish — Marzipan knocks on the door of Homestar's house with her head, despite the fact she could have used her invisible arms/telekinetic powers instead.
**Likewise, in 3 Times Halloween Funjob, Homestar knocks on Marzipan's door with his head, although he's probably just being silly, or possibly because he's holding his bagful of candy with both 'hands'.
*Homestar vs. Little Girl 2 — When Puppet Homestar plays Tag with Little Girl, he touches her with his head.
*Email the bird — Strong Bad flips Homestar off, and after Homestar replies "Right back atcha," Strong Bad exclaims, "He just gave me the bird!"
*Email your friends — Strong Bad asks Marzipan to hold out her hands; instead of replying that she doesn't have any, she just says she doesn't want to.
*Email the show and Main Page 19 — Homestar holds a microphone and sorts through a stack of index cards at the same time, which would possibly even require more than two invisible arms.
*Strong Bad Sings — One of Strong Bad's songs is titled "This One Time I Saw Homestar Punching a Kitten in the Throat".
*Email marzipan — Strong Bad remarks that "Marzipan can't keep her hands offa" him, although this could be just a figure of speech.
*Email time capsule — Homestar is able to manipulate the box, box lid, and wig all at the same time, as if he has multiple invisible arms.
*Puppet Jam: Everybody Knows It — Puppet Homestar gives high fives to They Might Be Giants.
*Arcade Game, and emails 50 emails and anything — Homestar can type on a keyboard.
**Similarly, in the King of Town Email (reached via the King of Town Main Page), the King of Town is heard typing on the keyboard of the broken Tandy 400.
*Puppet Jam: Apple Juice Blues - Homestar says, "my arm really really hurts," though it is probably Matt Chapman speaking about his own arm.
*Biz Cas Fri 1 — When Homestar "helps" Strong Bad with his spreadsheet, Homestar types with his head, when he could type with his "hands" in 50 emails, anything, and Arcade Game.
*Email extra plug — Homestar is tied with an extension cord around his torso in a position normally used to secure someone's arms, which would be useless if he had none.
*Email virus — Homestar's head falls off his body, and then the head picks up the links in the navigation bar.
*Email highschool — Highschool-Homestar sings "Shaking hands with my man".
*Email senior prom — When the lights go out, Marzipan warns someone to "watch those hands". This is notable if she was speaking to her date, Homestar. On the other hand, when the lights come back on, she is standing quite a distance from Homestar and Strong Mad is the nearest one to her.
*Strongest Man in the World — Homestar is holding up a pile of grapes, but since he has no arms, they appear to be floating. Homestar also gives Pom Pom a high five.
*Missing Lappy — The King of Town refers to himself as "Furious Fingers."
*Email retirement — The Tandy 400 holds up a fishing pole.
*Ballad of the Sneak — The Homestar Runner is seen with crutches after the Sneak "dropped him from his flying machine" (which might be the see-saw The Strong Man jumps on to send The Sneak airborne, which was seen shortly before.).

Other Apparently Invisible Body Parts
Coach Z's Face
Various references are made to parts of Coach Z's face that are not visible to the viewer:

*The Best Decemberween Ever — Coach Z is seen drinking mouthwash.
*A Jorb Well Done — When Marzipan is trying to teach Coach Z how to say "job", she tells him to make his mouth into an "O".
*The Luau — Coach Z, Bubs, and Pom Pom are seen eating marshmallows. (Pom Pom also does not appear to have a mouth, and Bubs' mouth appears to be a solid wall of teeth.)
*Email couch patch — Coach Z throws up in the couch rip.
*Scrolling Shooter Games Menu — 20X6 Coach Z appears to speak by wiggling his eyebrow.
*Happy Fireworks — Coach Z says he once shoved an M-80 up his nose.
*Fall Float Parade — Coach Z claims to have "fairly good teeth".
*Email narrator — Coach Z claims a napkin has his "snot balls" on it, and Bubs tells him he doesn't even have a nose.
*Sbemail 150?!? — Strong Sad mentions wanting to pour black coffee over Coach Z's head so it "continually streams down his mouthless face". (This later happens in alternate universe.)
*Email trading cards — Coach Z spits from his mouthless face on one of his cards.
*Email cliffhangers — The Thnikkaman says that he'll "knock Coach Z toothless".

Strong Bad's Nose
Similarly, references are occasionally made to Strong Bad's nose, even though he does not appear to have one.

*Email autobiography — In his autobiography tape, Strong Bad claims that "milk and cookies shot out my nose!"
*Email unused emails — Strong Bad makes a sniffing noise.
*Email big white face — Strong Bad acts like he's holding his nose when near The Poopsmith.
*Email alternate universe — Stinkoman calls Strong Bad "big nose", then refers to his nose.
*Sick Day — Strong Bad asks The Paper if he could blow his nose on it.
*Email keep cool — Strong Bad has smeared sunscreen where his nose would appear.

Ears
None of the main characters appear to have ears, yet they still act as though they do.

*Email impression — In a tape recording, Strong Sad tells Strong Bad to stop flicking his ear.
*Email ghosts — Strong Bad has a pair of fake ears on the sides of his mask.
*Email stunt double — Dangeresque wears cool glasses which are apparently held on his head by invisible ears.
**This is seen again in emails dangeresque 3, disconnected, and alternate universe.
**Homestar and The Thnikkaman also wear sunglasses in several toons.
*Email extra plug — The Cheat puts his hands to both sides of his head as though covering his ears when walking near Strong Bad's loud 'Lectric Boots.
*Email alternate universe — Tiny-Handed Strong Bad attempts to dig to China with his ear.
*Email keep cool — Strong Bad mentions that, after eating, you must have an ear candling before reentering the pool.
*Halloween Potion-Ma-Jig — Bubs covers the space where his ears would be when Homestar attempts to sing for a stirring utensil.
*Happy Hallow-day — Coach Z wears earrings as part of his costume, which seem to stick to the side of his face as opposed to pierce his skin.

Other
* The way Homestar wears a towel around his neck in Decemberween Short Shorts makes him look as if he has shoulders.
::Nah, it's supposed to be taken straightforward; Homestar really flips him the bird. If somebody merely told me they were flipping me off, I don't think I would take it as badly as Strong Bad does. — It's dot com 04:08, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
:::I had always seen it as a real, invisible one rather than "it's the thought that counts." I'm not arguing definitely against that. But a little bit of humor in the whole email comes from the fact that none of the flip-offs are visible, since even the characters with visible hands lack independent finger movement. Strong Bad's and Pom Pom's "deuces" are mere hand movements, yet all the characters seem to be perceiving the gesture. —AbdiViklas 04:48, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
::::All we know for certain is that Homestar says "right back atcha," which (since it's Homestar) probably means that he either didn't see or didn't understand the gesture. (I mean two different things by that: "didn't see" would be due to the boxing gloves; "didn't understand" would be due to him being Homestar.) We do not know that Homestar really made any "hand gestures" at all, invisible hands or no; he probably just thought Strong Bad was waving, hence the "right back atcha." Since the joke works whether Homestar is actually making an invisible hand gesture or not, time to apply Occham's (sp?) Razor. -- 05:01, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
::::::Dot com is right: It is clear that Homestar's gesture or lack thereof was taken by Strong Bad as an actual one-fingered salute. We should take it just as seriously as we take Strong Bad and Pom Pom's deuces. Yes, he may have thought Strong Bad was just "waving", but if he did, it appears that he "waved" back, and therefore, for all practical purposes, Homestar did in fact flip Strong Bad off. I really think you guys are overanalyzing this. The joke was that you can't see either Strong Bad or Pom Pom's gestures - just the suggestion of them given the context. The joke is continued when Strong Bad "flips off" Homestar, and Homestar just reflects it right back. Given the lack of visible evidence, but also given Strong Bad's responses to both Pom Pom ("Pom Pom prefers the single deuce") and Homestar ("He just gave me the bird!"), I think it's safe to assume that the gesture (visible only to Strong Bad) was repeated both times. - KieferSkunk 19:47, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

:I've always perceived this as exactly how the current wording explains it. Strong Bad flips Homestar off, so Homestar responds by flipping Strong Bad off, and Strong Bad reacts as if he can see it. It doesn't need any more explanation than that. In fact, it's funny precisely because it's ambiguous. ::I'm willing to believe that Homestar doesn't actually understand the gesture - he's pretty dim. Say you're from another country, and you've never seen or heard of the middle-finger gesture before. Someone does it to you, and you might interpret it as a friendly gesture and do it right back to them. Of course, the first person might then be offended by it. Since Homestar generally tends to have memory lapses and is otherwise just a dim-witted fellow to begin with, I think it's perfectly reasonable to interpret this as him seeing the flip-off and just not understanding it. - KieferSkunk 20:10, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
:::I think the joke here is the ambiguity. When Strong Bad notes that Marzipan has "really nice hands" in the Yellow Dello commentary, I think it's possible that he was being sarcastic.
If you want something close to proof, look at the bird. But really, you're just analyzing it too hard. Look at his eyes on the picture in the upper left. They're clearly on the front of his head, with him facing diagonally. Notice that you can see the underside of the hat? Notice the mouth is seen from a diagonal angle? It's like an Egyptian painting. Yes, the puppet has the eyes on the side, but can't you tell that's just to make it work in real life? It's a cartoon, it's like Egyptian paintings, it doesn't have to be exactly like that in real life. There is no real life, in fact, so reality is simply what the creators intended. How can he flip Strong Bad the bird with telepathic abilities? It's like Pom-Pom's voice, they can understand it but we can't. The arms exist but we can't see them. His eyes are just eyes. </rant> Uh...Cwapface 03:44, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
*How does Strong Bad type with boxing gloves on? -- 23:10, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
*To add to that (still anonymous diffrent poster) in the same E-mail Strong Bad slaps the scoisors out of Marzipan's hands, or the lack thereof. This implys that people with arms can interact with those without, giving play to the "invisble arms" argument.

*Homestar can manipulate more than two items telekenetically, which he could not do if he had invisible arms. I would second the significance of the lack of holes in Homestar's "red skirt", and I would also say that from watching Homestar (and the others) manipulate objects, it just looks more like they are levitating them than using invisible appendages. This no-armed whitey's powers of levitation may explain the hilarious blinking about of long pants: when upset so badly, his psychic powers blink him about. None of the references to the characters' hands or arms would be ironic or funny if we the audience were not supposed to believe that they had none. I think that the Brothers Chaps may have finally answered the arms vs. telekinesis question with the recent Strong Bad E-mail lady fan. Since Homestar's workout clothes include a leotard/onesie thing, the shoulder straps would fall if he didn't have *something* holding them up. --Zhaleskra
Something Worth Knowing
There's an article on Homestar's discussion page about the "no arms" mystery, but it discusses the reasoning behind the lack of arms. Anybody care to add to it?

The Wheelchair
The Wheelchair does 'technically' have arms(handles). And even if not so, this isn't a character that should actually be designed to have arms. Shouldn't the title of that section be labeled differently, instead of just listing what abscure characters don't have arms? If your intention is that, then why not add "The Huuuuuudge" and other mentioned characters without libs? 22:35, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Invisible Hands Only theorem
I consider Strong Bad is a Bad Guy canon, so Homestar (and presumably the rest of the cast) really doesn't have arms, invisible or otherwise. However, Marzipan clearly have hands, so this is how I think things work:

Each armless character has two invisible hands, which are manipulated psychokinetically. These hands are the only things that can be so manipulated. Meneth 06:46, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
We do not know that Homestar really made any "hand gestures" at all, invisible hands or no; he probably just thought Strong Bad was waving, hence the "right back atcha." Since the joke works whether Homestar is actually making an invisible hand gesture or not, time to apply Occham's (sp?) I really think you guys are overanalyzing this.

Note that just because clearly Strong Bad and Strong Mad are of the opinion he doesn't have arms doesn't prove it for sure; that's their opinion. Homestar seems to think he does. When Strong Bad notes that Marzipan has "really nice hands" in the Yellow Dello commentary, I think it's possible that he was being sarcastic. His tone (notice his emphasis on the word "hands"), combined with the fact that he seems to have a pretty good handle on just who has arms in Free Country U.S.A, indicates that he may have been making a joke. This is my opinion on it, taken from the Homestar talk page:

Ummm..I totally forgot what I wrote on the other page so I'm just gonna wing it- It's just one of those many questions everyone has for TBC, but they have no answer for. Like "How come Marzipan has no legs" or "Why does Bubs' mouth not move when he talks or just barely does"? It's one of those things the world may never know.--Gir007 00:53, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
* If Homestar had arms, there would be holes in his shirt/skirt for them to come out of. I think this decisively shows that he must be telekinetic.

In the words of Strong Mad, "You don't have aaa-" Trelawney 23:51, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I think that the Brothers Chaps may have finally answered the arms vs. telekinesis question with the recent Strong Bad E-mail lady fan. Since Homestar's workout clothes include a leotard/onesie thing, the shoulder straps would fall if he didn't have *something* holding them up. --Zhaleskra

:This type of logic doesn't hold up. If you allow "His straps don't fall, so he must have arms", then you also have to admit that the following deductions are true: "He can carry stuff, so he must have arms" and "You can't see any arms, so he can't have arms". == Invisible Hands Only theorem ==

Only, Homestar has been seen manipulating at least three things before. In time capsule, for example, he was seen holding the gross old wig, the box it came in, and the lid to the box all at once. - Clever Ben

Homestar definately just has hands, no arms. Anyone notice that almost none of Homestar's shirts have any sleeves for an "arm" to go through? - ThomasO

Flat Face Guy
Just for the records: Strong Bad could still have a nose, even if his face is flat (or flattened by the mask). We won't know if he really has a nose or not until he takes his mask off (or, in the words of one of my favourite comedians, "Mask? What mask?"). Anyway, most other characters don't have noses, so I'm happy with how it's currently phrased. 03:10, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Strong Bad's fingers
While it was mentioned above that the "wrestling mask" seems to be Strong Bad's face, what about the fact that the "boxing gloves" are his hands? Does anybody else think there should be a section on this page for gags about Strong Bad having no fingers, or might that be better as a subsection of How Do You Type With Boxing Gloves On? It seems like these are closely related topics, although certainly the boxing gloves thing needs its own page, as it is a much more major phenomenon overall.
