If we're gonna keep this, it should not be censored, but it should be limited to material found only on H*R.com (not the interviews (except for the relevant part in the introduction)). == Title ==

I'm not entirely sold on the utility of this page, but if we're going to have it could we at least give it a name that doesn't sound so juvenile ("Mom, Billy made a swear!")? My vote is for Profanity. Concerning the above discussion, I'm against censoring this page. The warning at the top is ample. <small>&mdash;&nbsp;InterruptorJones</small> 23:56, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
:The reason I moved it is because TBC in interviews have consistently used the word "swears" ("But when we get our sketch comedy show, dude, there’s going to be so many swears!"), and even in things like cheat talk. Plus, it's kinda funny. BTW, I think they only called it "cussing" in Commandos in the Classroom so they could make the "cuss-mando" joke. &mdash; It's dot com 00:01, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
::Meh, "Profanity" sounds so formal and stuffy. "Swears" fits the mood better, methinks. &mdash; It's dot com 00:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
:::Yeah, you don't really hear teens today using Profanity. Actually, it's more of "cursing." We should make the title that. Cursing sounds better than swears and cussing, and way better than Profanity. &mdash; Young Roy
::::Do you have something against the TBC term? If not, then we should leave the title like it is. &mdash; It's dot com 13:35, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Definitely. I'm up for moving it to that. &mdash; 00:21, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
:Well yeah, but profanity sounds more encyclopedic. &mdash; 00:27, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
::But "swears" sounds more H*R. More examples: "Tomkins made a swear!", "Why I can even swear a cuss myself! A-hem. Diaper biscuits." &mdash; It's dot com 02:52, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
What about the place?
Since words like "Hella, and Helluva" are considered swears, I added the one where old timey Strong Bad says "oh noes i've died and gone to hell".
:Not to be Correction Dan, but it's actually, Curses! iv'e died and gone to hell!" &mdash; Young Roy
:Actually, it's not really considered a swear if used to refer to the place. I think. --DorianGray
:::Dorian is right. The place is not a swear. &mdash; It's dot com 04:38, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Possible swearing in flashback
:flashback- After losing the ten-step footrace, The Homestar Runner responds by saying "WHAAAAT??!!?&,:;%${}". Random symbols usually mean censored swearing.

Disagree. I know that things like %^#$^@# are used to censor swears, but it's not being used for that in this case.

Random symbols are used to censor words in the sentence. These symbols have been attatched to the ??!!?, with no space between them. This suggests that this is an exaggeration often used on the Internet of an overuse of exclamation points. I'm talking about things like !!!!!!!11111, !!!!!111!1!11one!!1, and !!!!!fortyfive!!11!1omgwtfbbq111. Using random characters after a long string of exclamation points and question marks is just a cousin to these.

Secondly, you don't see a hint of Homestar opening his mouth to utter curses in the animation. There's no audio censorship either. Where is the swearing coming from?

This is what I would consider acceptable to say that Homestar was swearing:
*&,:;%${} WHAT??!!?
*WHAT??!!? &nbsp;&,:;%${}!!
Nikolce Kocovski 23:02, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
:Well, I agree that a large part of the charm of H*R is that it's funny without resorting to typical devices other animated entertainments rely on for shock laughs, such as potty language and excessive violent imagery. That said, I don't necessarily feel that a cartoon (for example, South park) which does employ potty language and extreme violence in its humor is less good, just different. In other words, I see it less as an issue of quality an an issue of broadest audience. So it's not "better", but it's quite an accomplishment that the 12 year olds and the old geezers like me alike can enjoy this and not be subjected to imagery or dialogue which might be seen as inappropriate. 23:07, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
::I think it's better because it's much easier to be "funny" with swearing. :::But that logic would suggest that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not as intelligent, when in fact it's pretty clear from their work they're geniuses (as are TBC). They use a different set of rules and tools than TBC, so it's different, but does it necessarily mean TBC are more intelligent than TP+MS? It's like comparing apples and chainsaws, their approaches differ too vastly to effectively compare. 23:12, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
:While you are of course correct, I can also see an argument for exploring the utility of swears in animation as essential to the understanding of why both this page and its contents exist. Are the swears and swear-like items we document here to be seen as a deviation from the standards we've come to expect from TBC? Are they intentional references to the tradition in modern animation of employing naughty words for comic effect? Are they not references at all, but instances of the use of naughty words for comic effect? Yes, a generic discussion of whether SP or H*R is better because of the extent of the use of swearing is Forum fodder, but other points are, IMO, germane to the upkeep of this page. 23:57, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
::I feel like I oughtn't, but since Qermaq opened the discussion loophole again briefly, I'll jump in. I hesitate at the first question there, Qermaq, which hints at the perennial has-H*R-jumped-the-shark questions that come up often and are almost always unanswerable and unnecessary. One interesting thing you hint at, though, is that the significance of this page is not the way they don't swear, but the way they represent, replace, or suggest swears. Which suggests questions of the history of doing so in other cartoon genres, like comic strips. Which gets back to Nik's starting supposition: although technically what defines a cartoon is that it's animated instead of filmed, you identify an assumption that they're intended for, or at least suitable for, kids. (And the previous two links could be taken as H*R weighing in with meta-commentary on its own role in these dynamics.) Which of course leads to the question of why we connect cartoons with kids&mdash;what about their origins, political cartoons, etc.&mdash;by which point it's definitely ready for the forum. &mdash;AbdiViklas 00:15, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
I think that one's being read a bit too much into. We can't be sure of his context, he may have just thought "shizzle" is a funny word, and didn't realize it is sometimes attributed to profanity. In fact, Wikipedia gives the meaning of shizzle as "...rap slang word for 'sure'", which is also the general meaning that I have understood in the past. Though the context of "Strong Bad is the sure" admittedly does not make sense, it seems to me that this comment is simply an abstract comment of "Strong Bad is the shizzle" without the "meaning" of shizzle being obviously clear, if there in fact is one. In short, I think we're reading much too much into a word that doesn't have a specific meaning. 02:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Another Old-Timey version of Strong Sad (pictured to the left), which looks much more similar to the modern Strong Sad, appears being blasted out of a circus tent on Main Page 10. However, since this predates Parsnips-A-Plenty, it is clear that that design was scrapped in favor of Sickly Sam, although some believe that Stong Sad died in that page, and Sickly Sam is a ghost version of old-timey Strong Sad.
Transcript
{The toon opens with the title "Summer Short Shorts" on a photo of blue shorts. The title slowly comes towards the camera. Cut to Marshmallow's Last Stand. The camera pans across the table, which is littered with french fries and ketchup}

STRONG BAD: C'mon, The Cheat! You can do one more! Just one more!

{the camera zooms out, showing The Cheat sitting opposite Strong Bad at the table, with Strong Mad behind Strong Bad. The Cheat's mouth is crammed full of fries, he has purple bags under his eyes, and is whimpering}

STRONG BAD: {pops up near The Cheat, wearing a brown hat with a press pass} {speaking quickly} Oh, have you heard the latest news? {sits back down} I heard the latest news, it was that you could do one more! One more!

{The Cheat whimpers and spits a few fries onto the table}

STRONG BAD: Strong Mad, tell your girlfriend to do one more.

STRONG MAD: SHE'S GONNA BLOW!!

{Homestar Runner runs up, dressed as a waiter, with a brown cap that says 'egg.' on it}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Aaaaaaand can I get you gentlemen anything else?

{Homestar holds up a red clown shoe, and a large daisy rises from inside it}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Blinnnng!

{cut back to the title screen}

{cut to a Powered by The Cheat landscape, showing a volcano and the caption "The Millionzoic Era". Cut to a scene showing a prehistoric Marzipan and Homestar, with a tar pit next to them}

PBTC CAVEMAN HOMESTAR: {spits green bubbles while he talks} Ooga, ooga. My breath, it stinks.

PBTC CAVEWOMAN MARZIPAN: {turns to the left, away from Homestar} Uh-huh!

PBTC CAVEMAN HOMESTAR: Real, real bad!

{a pterodactyl with Coach Z's hat flies in from the right}

PBTC COACH Z DACTYL: Helicopta fly!<!--not quite sure about this. Could be "well, I've got to fly" or something--> {flies off to the left}

{A caveman Strong Bad enters from the mountains. He lands in the tar pit, which splashes Homestar and turns into a skull, which sticks to Homestar. As Strong Bad sinks to the bottom of the tar pit, his feet can be seen poking out from underneath.}

PBTC CAVEMAN STRONG BAD: Ooga. Me want set your face on fires.

PBTC CAVEMAN HOMESTAR: What's fire?

PBTC CAVEWOMAN MARZIPAN: It sounds fun! Oo-ga! {jumps}

{A large The Cheat-like dinosaur runs by from the right. It then clamps its mouth around the volcano and begins "drinking" from it, accompanied by glugging noises. The Cheatsaurus then turns and breathes fire over the group, scorching them. Marzipan turns into a drumstick with its tongue sticking out, Homestar into a smiling steak with a gold tooth, and Strong Bad merely blackens}

PBTC CAVEMAN MARZIPAN AND HOMESTAR: Aaaah!

PBTC CAVEMAN STRONG BAD: Oh, me too! {turns into a dish with a lobster tail on it} I am not exempt!

PBTC COACH Z DACTYL: {pokes head in} Hey, did you see that? The Cheatsaurus can do it again!

{cut back to the title screen}

{open with a few shots of leaves, then focus in on Pom Pom's head. He opens his eyes, then leaps out of a bush and jumps upwards. He does a brief pose before falling back down again. He lands on a tree branch, then begins to leap forward from branch to branch. He lands on the ground, and pops a bo staff out of himself. He twirls the staff as pictures of bamboo and a wave appear behind him. He then jumps up. Cut to a long shot of him arcing over Strong Badia and Bubs' Concession Stand. He then lands lightly next to Coach Z. He pops out a deodorant stick out of himself, and tosses it to the coach}

COACH Z: Thanks for the smell-cakes, Pom Pom! But next time could you dispense with all the flyin' whozits?!

{Pom Pom pulls out a small smoke bomb and throws it on the ground in front of him. When the smoke clears, Pom Pom has vanished}

{cut back to the title screen}
<div id="Brain_Sister">
{cut to a black screen, while red and green lasers arc from the top and bottom of the screen. Guitar music begins, while the Limozeen logo appears in bright yellow. The logo splits, and an image of Larry appears. It changes colour, as a pair of feminine legs in fishnet walk by. Three images of Larry playing guitar appear, which meld into one of him leaping into a power chord. The words "BRAIN SISTER" rise from the bottom as Larry jumps offscreen. A calculator displaying 3.14 appears, and an outline of Texas draws itself around it. Several images of a brain, Larry, guitars, and the ZEEN part of the logo flash past in front of a crowd, until Larry zooms forward, surrounded by stars and playing guitar. More images of Larry's head flash in front of the crowd, as the lasers start again. The calculator flashes by, and the legs walk out, with a brain perched on top of them. They walk by a Limozeen amp as the song ends. The Limozeen logo flashes briefly}

LARRY PALARONCINI: {singing}
:Well, she was only twenty-seventeen.
:She was a low res beauty queen.
:She was a brain... brain... brain sister!

LARRY PALARONCINI: Yeah! Oh! Ooh! All right! Uh!
</div>
{cut back to the title screen}

{open in a barroom-type scene. Homestar and Pom Pom are seated at the bar. Both have an 'old one bottle, and there is a bowl of peanuts on the table}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Seriously, Pom Pom. {gesturing with bottle} You and me, we're like two breads in a biscuit. {pokes the bottle in Pom Pom's face} Two breads in a biscuit! I'm gonna make a T-shirt! {leans in close} No, wait! You and me? {crouches to look at peanuts} We're like this bowl of mayonnaise here. {points at Pom Pom with the bottle} You're the bowl, 'cuz you're a big, round, fat guy. {Pom Pom looks angry. Homestar sits up again, now pointing at self} And I'm the mayonnaise, 'cuz I'm smart as peanuts. That'll make a good T-shirt too. Oop, no, wait! Before you strangle me again... You and me? {pulls the napkin out from under his bottle} Soggy napkins. {as Homestar says "Soggy", Pom Pom gets a dull, bored look on his face.}

{cut to the picture of the shorts from the title screen, which now just reads "End."}
Fun Facts
Explanations
*The Limozeen sequence simulates a laser show.
*Low res is short for low resolution which refers to an image with a low level of detail.
*The calculator during the Limozeen sequence displays 3.14, which is a common approximation for Pi.

Remarks
*Short shorts were mentioned just a week earlier with Camp Counselor Shortshorts in Teen Girl Squad 11.
*Millionzoic is a portmanteau.
*After the Coach Z Dactyl flies by for the first time, it remains off camera at the left edge of the animation until just after Caveman Strong Bad splashes tar on Caveman Homestar, at which time the Dactyl pops back into view for a frame or two before disappearing in preparation for its second flight.
*The Pom Pom short reveals that Bubs' Concession Stand abuts Strong Badia, and apparently a lush forest exists beyond that.
*The sky can be seen inside Bubs' Concession Stand during Pom Pom's scene. This would only be possible if one of the walls were missing.
*Pom Pom shows off his skills with the bo.
*At the February 2006 Flashforward, Matt Chapman mentioned that Missy Palmer was pregnant&mdash;the Very, Very Little Girl in the Easter egg is perhaps Mike and Missy's baby.
*The music at the beginning of Homestar vs. Very, Very Little Girl comes from Strong Bad's kids' show in for kids.
*Very, Very Little Girl is in a Fisher-Price B0639 Cradle Swing with the Rubber Ducky pattern.

Goofs
*The french fry on the table loses its reflection after the cut to the wider shot.
*The french fries The Cheat spits out have no reflection.

Inside References
*The same short shorts on the title screen are worn by Matt Chapman in an Easter egg in Peasant's Quest Preview.
*Homestar has an egg on his hat in the restaurant sequence, which also features the same French fries and bottles of Quite Fancy 'Chup first seen in funny.
* Millionzoic Homestar says that his breath smells real real bad, which is similar to how he told Strong Bad that his burps smell real bad in Sick Day.
*Millionzoic Homestar turns into a steak with a gold tooth.
*"The ol' Cheatasaurus" is what Strong Bad nicknamed The Cheat in other days.
*The short in The Millionzoic Era resembles the MS Paint picture Strong Mad sends Strong Bad of a brontosaurus eating bacon and eggs at the end of lunch special.
*The back beat during the Pom Pom short is also from Theme Song Video.
*The animation of Pom Pom's smoke bomb is the same animation of Strong Bad's pants poofing away in senior prom.
*The "guitar stars" featured in the laser show are from rock opera.
*The solar calculator during the Limozeen laser show is similar to the one on the chalkboard in technology, which also displayed 3.14.
*There is a LEMKE flag on the wall in the bar short.
*Homestar mentions bread in the bar short.
*The bar short with Homestar and Pom Pom drinking 'old ones is almost identical to a scene near the end of the Theme Song Video.

Real-World References
*Texas circumscribing the calculator and the lyrics of the song are a reference to Texas Instruments, a computer and electronics development company.
*One of the backgrounds of Pom Pom's Bo routine is modeled after the ukiyo-e woodblock painting "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa" by Hokusai.
*The Limozeen lyrics "Well, she was only twenty-seventeen." and "I think you know what I mean!" are references to the lyrics "Well she was just seventeen. You know what I mean." from The Beatles song "I Saw Her Standing There". Also, the second line of the Beatles song originally went, "Never been a beauty queen" (or "Not exactly a beauty queen", depending on the source), until John Lennon told Paul McCartney to change it.
*"Dare to Bare!" is a reference to a slogan used by hair-removal product Nair, who became famous for their ad jingle where people asked "Who wears short shorts?"
<!--The Pom Pom sequence of him jumping on trees is a generic martial arts/ninja reference, nothing specific-->
The Pom-Pom sequence may also be a minor reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender, in which the main character often flies through trees in such a manner as Pom pom.
Pom Pom and the martial arts are a running gag that havn't got much attention. The first instance of pom pom fighting is in the theme song video in his dojo with the uniform and everything, this is broadened on later in the email pom pom where he gets a 1up beating Strongbad. In the commentary for the same email the brothers chaps discussed wanting to make a side scrolling pom pom fighting game. Later in the summer short shorts toon pom pom shows off his skills with a bo-staff. He appears to be able to fly, jump high, punch, kick, etc., in a violent manner.
STRONG SAD: Well, hurry up and do something about it before it gets worse!

STRONG BAD: What the...? Whoa! {shivers} It's cold out here.

{Strong Bad tries to jump back into the room, but the room shifts left, causing him to still fall on blank space.}

STRONG BAD: Hey!

{Homestar Runner walks onscreen. His body is Old-Timey Homestar Runner's body, while the rest of him is normal. Instead of his legs moving, he just glides on. He leaves a motion trail behind him, producing several ghost images of himself.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Never fear, Strong Bad! I know how to fix your computer box. {He turns to the Compy.}

STRONG BAD: {stands up} No, no, don't touch that!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Your super box needs words. {His head falls off and onto the ground.} Like these right here! STRONG BAD: {simultaneously} No, wait! Stop! That's not supposed to be possible!

MARZIPAN: Well, I think it's fantastic, Strong Mad! That's the best stack of VHS tapes I've ever&mdash;

{Marzipan turns into an ASCII art rendering of herself, and her voice becomes extremely deep and distorted making her words unintelligible.}

STRONG MAD: I CAN'T SPELL YOU!

MARZIPAN: {more unintelligible gibberish}

{Strong Mad turns into a picture of himself from his character video inside a large M, which walks offscreen with Homsar's walking noise. Text appears at the top of the screen reading as follows.}

<blockquote>
If anyone is truly a big lug, Strong Mad is. This guy is dumb<br>
strong, and that's pretty much the definition of a lug. One ti<br>
his brother Strong Bad asked him to pick up this one car. An<br>
he did, but it was the wrong car. See? Dumb and strong. He'<br>
</blockquote>

{Cut to the King of Town's castle. The Poopsmith is standing with his shovel extended and some whatsit on the end of it, as the King of Town stands nearby.}

THE KING OF TOWN: A little to the left. {The Poopsmith extends the shovel toward the King.} Good, good...

{The scene suddenly changes to a Teen Girl Squad style piece of paper, with the text "issue 3.14159265and the rest" at the top. The Poopsmith is gone.}

THE KING OF TOWN: Ooh! Poopsmith?!

{The Ugly One appears out of nowhere with the rhino sound from "Strong Bad's RhinoFeeder", and her mouth is huge and distorted.}

THE UGLY ONE: I can do it! I can do it nine times!

{The Ugly One extends her arm and starts slapping the King of Town.}

THE KING OF TOWN: Uh! No! Please! Stop! I'm old! And fat! And rich! And cool!

{Cut to the Homestar Runner loading screen, and reveals a screen with the text "It's now safe to turn your computer off." Bubs walks on from the side of the screen. His mouth is a broken JPEG (with "TH" as the alt text), his legs are rendered in a fashion suitable for red/blue 3D-glasses, his midsection is missing, and he's carrying one of Homestar's legs in his left arm. His other arm is continually waving about, as seen on Dancin' Bubs. It is a bit larger than it should be}

BUBS: I shoulda done this, like, a million years ago.

{Cut to The Field, now a cloud scene. The Stick is gone. Strong Bad has one big foot instead of both legs, his black mark is too high, and his head and mouth are lopsided. The Cheat is floating around the screen, interchanging between different versions of himself. A pitch-black Rather Dashing and a colon fly by in the foreground. As Strong Bad talks, his left arm detaches from his body and flies off in random directions.}

STRONG BAD: {Using an old version of his voice} With Marzipan's radish, we're gonna win the competition...

{An explosion sound effect is heard, and suddenly everything returns to normal, revealing Strong Bad and The Cheat standing by The Stick.}

STRONG BAD: Hey, he fixed it! That Bubs is a computer genius man! Let's do a dance for the computer genius man.

{A salsa rhythm starts up, to which Strong Bad and The Cheat start dancing. The camera pans to the left to reveal Bubs holding a shotgun.}

STRONG BAD: Thanks, Bubs! How'd you get rid of the vi&mdash; {salsa music fades away} wait... why do you have a shotgun? {shaken} What did you do?! Where's my Compy?!?

BUBS: It's in a better place, Strong Bad. Or rather, it's in the same place, but now it's got a big hole through it.

STRONG BAD: {more shaken than ever} YOU MURDERER!! You killed my brother! {nearly sobbing} I mean, computer!

BUBS: Look, Strong Bad, my mouth was a broken JPEG. I had no choice.

STRONG BAD: You don't understand! You all understand! I mean, don't understand! YAAAUUUGGGHHH!

{Strong Bad runs off screen, very distraught. The Cheat squeaks, as though he is telling Strong Bad to wait up, and runs after him. Homestar hops onscreen on one leg, holding his other leg up.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Hey, Bubs, can I have my leg back now?

{Bubs stares at Homestar for a long, uncomfortable moment.}

{Cut to the Compy 386, which now has a giant hole through its monitor and most of the wall behind it. Strong Bad is sitting in front of it, head bowed.}

STRONG BAD: {very distraught} Dear Strong Bad, I doh du duoh crapfully yours. {He hits his head on the keyboard a few times.} I...ID DOH DU DUOH CRAPFULLY YOURS! I can relate. {He hits his head on the keyboard again.} I can't relate! {He hits his head on the keyboard again.} I'm gonna get, I'm gonna get in there and mix {He hits his head.} it up!

{The Paper comes down.}

STRONG BAD: {still very distraught} I don't remember your name, Davey! {hits head on keyboard again} Dear Strong Bad. {voice trailing off} How do you text with boxing gloves on?

Easter Eggs
*When the Main page is encroaching on the top of the screen the Quote of the Week, weekly Sketchbook, and Weekly Fanstuff buttons are clickable as well as the "What's New?" button.
**Clicking "What's New?" leads to Halloween Fairstival.
**Clicking the Quote of the Week makes bounce around the screen until it gets lodged at the top by it's bottom corner. Clicking "Hear it" causes a pixelated broom to scroll vertically along the screen while making a loud distorted noise, and some of the links disappear off the bottom of the screen. Unless the X is pressed, the quote box stays there for the rest of the email. When clicking the "X" to close it, the Quote of the Week box wobbles a bit and then falls off the screen and the links reappear. If you view the flash file, and roll your mouse over "Don't tape it", it changes to "Don't take it!".
**Click on the Sketchbook leads to a glitched sketchbook box, where the Flash MX color mixer appears. Scrolling over it causes a green X to appear overtop. Clicking it causes it to close. Allowing it to remain on-screen causes a screen glitch&mdash;a black box appears over the left side of the screen when the screen moves off of the center of the page.
*Clicking on the cog on the left at the end of the e-mail shows the blown up Compy 386 on sale at Bubs' Concession Stand, with signs reading "Like Used!" and "Slightly Shotgunned!"
*Clicking on the fan on the right shows an excerpt of the original Cheat Commandos toon, but with Fightgar using Homestar's leg as a gun.
:NARRATOR: ...to protect the world from the evil forces of Blue Laser!

Fun Facts
Explanations
*The quadratic formula is an algebraic equation used to determine the roots of a quadratic equation.
*The Teen Girl Squad issue number is pi truncated to 8 decimal places.

Trivia
*This is the only page on the site that produces a Pop up "advertisement".
*This is the only email in which the navbar and the email are combined into one Flash file (so that Homestar can grab the words). When the random toon link ("rando") was added to the navbar, The Brothers Chaps probably chose not to update this page, as the navbar is animated here, and could be difficult to change after the animation had been completed. This navigation bar was added to the DVD version; however, unlike the DVD version, the Podstar Runner version of this email did not have the navigation bar at the bottom.
*The numbers in the weeklies boxes are in a font called "MS Reference Specialty" and spell out the phrase "stick to your books" (possibly&mdash;since the letters a–h in MS Reference Specialty are represented by little squares).
*The broken JPEG is used in the Netscape family of web browsers, including Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, and Mozilla Firefox.
*The label on the disk in the floppy disk container reads "spy vs spy".

Remarks
*Because the toon was released before it, the rando link is missing throughout the entire cartoon, and the "legal" link reads "legal stuff"
*Edgar the Virus Hunter is said to have been written in 1982, a year before the first documented experimental virus was created. Although there are conflicting accounts as to when the first virus was made, it would pretty much be impossible for a virus scanner to have existed in 1982.
*Strong Bad's head is larger than normal (but not his wrestling mask) while he is talking to Strong Sad. It reverts back to normal when he runs for The Cheat, but then regresses back to the larger head once he enters into the black.
*The letters that make up ASCII art Marzipan refer to parts of her body: "E" for eyes, "f" for face, "h" for hair, and "d" for dress.
*Strong Bad says that Edgar from the Edgarware program is his "main man." However, he claims in "2 years" that his main man "is, and has been since 1987, Van Mundegaarde."
*The reason the "making out with Marzipan" pop-up doesn't come up in the .swf, or Flash, version is because the information for the pop-up is stored in the HTML source code. All that the Flash file does is to send a JavaScript command to the browser, opening the pop-up window.
*In the Fake QOD, the words "Quote of the Day (Or So)" are displayed reversed, as though in a mirror, and, instead of "Hear It!" and "Get It!", the buttons are "Hear It!" and "Don't TAPE It", although the latter is hidden by the top of the screen.
**If you view the Flash file directly and hover over "Don't TAPE It", the button changes to "Don't TAKE It".
**This happens because the SWF file for virus's fake Quote of the Week (qod_virus.swf) has black bars at the bottom, right where those words are, so when it appears in the email, it covers up those words.
**Clicking on Weekly Fanstuff leads to a glitched fanstuff box, where there is a picture of Coach Z upside down with his arms and legs wrapped around a white space the shape of The King of Town's head. This image is from Where's The Cheat?, when Coach Z attacked The King over a misunderstanding involving The Cheat and a grill. The picture has a lot of numbers at the bottom. Hovering the pointer over the misspelled "OCⓧSLE" insted of the close botton cause words 'A BOOK' to appear in green. Clicking on it cause the box to slide to the top and dissappear.
**The reason for the color switcher glitch is because in the .swf file of the glitched up sketchbook, there is a black box to the left of the screen, which, of course, covers up the screen on the left.
*This is the second e-mail made using the Widescreen technique. The first was flashback.
*If you click "main" on the navigation bar, it takes you to 404'd. The address is http://www.homestarrunner.com/mainNaN.html. NaN is the computer term for Not a Number, which is obtained in some environments by dividing zero by zero, and/or other mathematical errors.
*When the fake popups appear followed by the real one, the fake ones look similar to the windows from some of the older Windows operating systems. Depending on which visual theme or version of Windows you are running, the real popup looks quite different from the fake ones. This is more pronounced when viewed on Windows ME, Windows 2000 and especially Windows XP. Windows 98 users will see no obvious difference.
*At the beginning of the Email the contrast buttons will slightly increase and decrease the volume.
*In the Podcast version, Strong Bad looks back and forth when the ads pop up, even though they all appear in one area.
*Most shotguns spread out from the barrel, whereas the blast from Bub's shotgun seems to narrow down as it reaches the back wall.

Goofs
*While the liquid is leaking out of the screen, the contrast buttons are still clickable.
*After Homestar grabs "downloads", "characters", and "games" from the bottom, "toons" is no longer clickable, unlike the other remaining links. Then, at the end of the email when everything else returns to normal, all the links disappear.
*The fake QOD, fanstuff, and sketchbook stay on the screen until you get rid of them, even after Bubs shotguns the Compy, and in the Easter eggs.
*After Strong Bad types "deleted!" for the first time, and the blue screen appears, the drive letter disappears.
*The links between "toons" and "contact" disappear while the Quote of the Day Easter egg is active.

Inside References
<!-- The fact that Strong Sad's new heads are from his webblog? It's already in the transcript. Thus, please do not add it again. -->
*This is an extreme instance of Strong Bad's Computer Malfunctioning.
*The "Flagrant System Error" title is from 50 emails.
*Strong Bad's response to the Flagrant System Error ("That's not a good prize!") comes from "Pumpkin Carve-nival".
*"Stave it off, 1, 2, 3..." is from the counting song in "Whaddaya Know, Haddi-Man?".
*The card that Strong Sad transforms into is from the original deck of Character Cards that has since been removed from the site.
*The pixelated broom induced by the glitched Quote of the Day is the same graphic used in Peasant's Quest for the broom the baby knocks over to let you into Naked Ned's cottage.
**Using a broom to play Marzipan's garbled noise may be an oblique reference to people mistaking her for a broom.
*"Making out with Marzipan is totally awesome" was once the phrase necessary to trigger the Strong Bad Talker from the Homestar Talker. (It has since been changed.) The sound clips for the words were also taken from the Homestar Talker. The first four words of the phrase are also heard in "The Cheat Theme Song".
*Strong Bad screaming and pounding on the edge of the screen while the popups are appearing could be a reference to Where the Crap Are We?.
*Strong Mad's description, which appears when he glitches, comes from the Yearbook Character Page, as does the picture of him inside a giant M.
**This time, the giant M show's Strong Mad's "M" insignia on his singlet, whereas in Yearbook Character Page, the giant M did not.
*The sound effect that plays when The Ugly One appears is taken from RhinoFeeder.
*The Ugly One's line and the sound effects for her slapping the King of Town in the face come from crazy cartoon. (However, she slightly misquotes it: the original line was "I can do it! I will do it nine times.")
*The powering-down sound that plays just before Bubs walks across the screen is the same sound that plays just before the Tandy 400 explodes in gimmicks
*As Bubs is walking across the screen the first time, his left and right arms are moving as if stuck in positons #4 and #5 (respectively) in the Dancin' Bubs game. Bubs' right arm is also about twice as large as usual.
*Bubs' broken JPEG mouth bears the letters "TH." This might be a reference to his other identity, The Thnikkaman.
*During the final glitch scene (just before Bubs "fixes" the computer), the song playing in the background is the intro to "Parsnips-A-Plenty" and "That A Ghost".
*Strong Bad's line during the final glitch scene is taken directly from The Reddest Radish.
*The cloud background during the final glitch scene is the same cloud background used in New Boots.
* During the final glitch scene, The Cheat is on a rotation of six different versions of himself:
*# The Awexome Cross version.
*# One that looks like one of The Cheat's styles from "The Cheat Theme Song".
*# A drawn version, from "The Reddest Radish".
*# Another drawn version from Strong Bad's site.
*# A far more pixellated version of him, with a thin black outline around it.
*# And a Cheat x-ing sign, much like the similar signs seen in the Fan Stuff part of the Museum.
*The fan and cog in the Compy 386 are the same fan and cog that were visible when the Tandy 400 exploded.
**If you look closely (or zoom into the Flash file) the fan is once again mysteriously floating in space, just like when the Tandy 400 blew up.
*Bubs sells the broken Compy 386 as he did with the broken Tandy 400.
*At the very end, Strong Bad mutters "how do you text with boxing gloves on?", a question commonly asked in his emails.
<!-- The fact that Strong Sad's new heads are from his webblog? It's already in the transcript. Thus, please do not add it again. -->
*The central pop-up (e.g. the one that would actually pop up on the website version) does not appear.
*The way the Quote of the Week, Sketchbook, and Weekly Fanstuff easter eggs work has changed. All three are combined into one easter egg, which goes to the Weekly Fanstuff easter egg, then the Quote of the Week easter egg, and finally the Sketchbook easter egg.
Commentary Transcript
(Commentary by: Mike Chapman, Matt Chapman, Homestar Runner)

MIKE: This email looks tiny, Matt.

MATT: It's a funny shape.

MIKE: It's smaller than the rest, and there's little words at the bottom.

MATT: This doesn't make any sense to me!

MIKE: What's going on?

MATT: S&mdash; Oh, no. Strong Bad must have gotten some type of a wirus!

MIKE: {laughs} Virus.

MATT: B&mdash; Pardon?

MIKE: Virus?

MATT: Oh. I used the German pronunciation.

MIKE: {laughs} Yeah?

MATT: Yeah.

MIKE: K. Um, so this was, uh, this was a&mdash; this email was kind of a big&mdash; big production.

MATT: Mm hmm.

MIKE: Took longer than most.

MATT: A long time in coming.

MIKE: Yeah. Um...

MATT: Yeah, see&mdash; he hasn't used "deleted" on the Lappy yet, now that he has a new computer, has he?

MIKE: I guess not. I wonder what it looks like when he deletes something on the Lappy.

MATT: I dunno. "Drop a train on 'em" was from a bad hip-hop song I made in college &mdash; {Mike laughs}&mdash; where I sampled the soundtrack from a Dirty Harry movie.

MIKE: That's a good song.

MATT: Thanks.

{Pause}

MIKE: So this, obviously, was, uh, pretty fun to make where you could just kinda put stuff wherever and just...

MATT: It's more like your computer is getting the virus than Strong Bad's computer getting the virus.

MIKE: Yeah. The whole world is getting the virus.

MATT: Yeah. "Stave it off, 1, 2, 3" up there at the top.

MIKE: Mm hmm. There's uh, Strong Sad's head is the, uh, his little emoticons from the uh, his&mdash;

MATT: Strong Sad's Web journal.

MIKE: Strong Sad Journal.

MATT: That was from an unused character page we never made.

MIKE: Mm hmm.

{Pause}

MIKE: Say something good, Matt.

MATT: Uh&mdash;

MIKE: Make it&mdash; Make it funny.

MATT: All right. {adopts different tone} T&mdash; To&mdash; {normal voice} Oh, yeah, weren't we gonna do&mdash; I was going to be a character when we did this commentary.

MIKE: Oh yeah. Start doing Homestar.

MATT: All right...

{Pause}

HOMESTAR: That was a lot of me's.

MIKE: That was a lot of you's.

HOMESTAR: Mike, some of them were old me's that don't look so great.

MIKE: That's right. I thought you looked pretty good back in the old days.

HOMESTAR: No, no.

MIKE: Oh, you&mdash;

HOMESTAR: Look bad.

MIKE: Look Bad!

HOMESTAR: Yeah.

MIKE: Strong Bad.

HOMESTAR: That's a different character.

MIKE: {laughs} Who was Look Bad again?

HOMESTAR: Oh, what are they doing there? Is he gonna eat that doo-doo shovel?

MIKE: No, I think was going to take a picture of it, maybe.

HOMESTAR: But he doesn't have a camera, Mike.

MIKE: But the camera was offscreen.

HOMESTAR: He's got a mustache.

MIKE: The camera was offscreen.

HOMESTAR: He clearly wanted... a doo-doo-stache.

MIKE: Who's that, Homestar?

HOMESTAR: That looks kinda like Bubs, from Website. But I don't think so. Oh, look, it's Pitfall.

MIKE: That did happen in Pitfall.

HOMESTAR: If you flick the on and off switch a lot, you get a little floating Pitfall Harry through the trees!

MIKE: Oh, I like The Cheat's little sassy dance there, Homestar. Did you teach him that?

HOMESTAR: I did. Hands on hips!

MIKE: How'd you teach him that?

HOMESTAR: I said, "Hands on hips!"

MIKE: Look, there's your leg.

HOMESTAR: That is not my leg! That looks like a shotgun.

MIKE: Bu&mdash;

{Pause}

HOMESTAR: That shotgun looks dangerous, Mike. I don't agree with its appearance in this cartoon.

MIKE: You shouldn't play with shotguns, Homestar.

HOMESTAR: I don't, man.

MIKE: {laughs} Good.

HOMESTAR: Did you learn that the hard way?

MIKE: No.

HOMESTAR: Penny Hardaway?

MIKE: I'm allowed to&mdash; I'm allowed to draw them, though. Drawing them's no problem.

HOMESTAR: Drawing them is bad.

MIKE: No, I think it's okay.

HOMESTAR: Here I come!

MIKE: See?

HOMESTAR: Look! I lost my leg!

MIKE: I know, that's&mdash; Bubs&mdash; Bubs has it there.

HOMESTAR: Strong Bad looks like he's a little delirious in this part.

MIKE: He's&mdash; He's sad. He's had a great loss. People sometimes act like this... when they're experiencing great losses.

HOMESTAR: But&mdash; Mike, a great loss sounds like a contradiction.

MIKE: {laughs}

HOMESTAR: I don't&mdash; I've never had any great losses.

MIKE: "Great"&mdash; "Great" meaning "large," not meaning&mdash;

HOMESTAR: All my losses are bad losses.

MIKE: You've never had a great loss?

HOMESTAR: Except maybe, some pounds. {Pause} He just really put a hole right through that thing, huh?

MIKE: Yeah. Didn't go through the wall, though.

HOMESTAR: Nope. {whispering} Let's get quiet.

MIKE: {whispering} Okay.

Fun Facts
* Matt says Strong Bad got a "wirus" and then calls this "the German pronunciation". This is because many native German speakers have difficulty distinguishing the "v" and "w" sounds in English and might thus say "wirus" instead of "virus".
* Homestar demonstrates his ignorance that he has no visible hands or arms.
* Penny Hardaway is a professional basketball player who has played guard for the NBA's Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, and New York Knicks.
