Ah, I see. The consumerist "individual" is ultimately the one who follows the herd most closely. The one who tries to establish their own identity, their own "individuality" by embracing all the trends, and in the process, loses the very thing they try to build up.

Compare to this, the "true" individual, the one who refuses to follow trends, who goes out of their way to avoid the herd. There are two possible fates for such a one: to be an outcast or a trend-setter.

Oh, and let's not forget, rebelling against the trends is often a trend in itself. So the trap is often sprung even by those who claim to walk their own path.

The only true individuals are those who are so completely unmindful of trends and fads, they care not whether they follow them. Such a person neither rebels against the trends and fads, nor embraces them. Such a person does what they like, regardless of how others might perceive them, even when someone might accuse them of being a follower. Because, in the end, they know it doesn't matter.

EDIT: The fact is I don't follow trends and I don't intend to make them. If people decide to do what I do because I'm doing it, their loss. But I don't care if I'm an outcast or whatever, I just can't stand people who don't choose to have individual ideas. Which leads back to religion, but that's a whole other thing I don't wanna get into. That last paragraph would describe me more accurately, I think.

Except that people who follow a religion should not do so because it is trendy, but based on whether its claims are true. It is a topic I am more than willing to discuss in the right context - namely the R & P board.

That wasn't even close to being accurate. People that hate the U.S have become the norm, so you, Rusty, are the one that's thinking the same as everyone else. That's what disgusts my about it.

Well, if people would pick and choose things about a certain religion to believe, and not just follow the whole thing just because it's what they've chosen to follow, fine. If that "pick and choose" includes the whole thing, that's fine as well.

But there are people out there (I know, trust me. I've been around) who just follow it and can't think for themselves. Which just sucks.

EDIT: ....I don't know why I'm still giving you responses, abu. Didn't I just say that I'm against following trends, doing things because everyone else does? If my beliefs coincide with someone else's based on coincidence, then that's just going to happen, there's a lot of people in this world. But I don't think it just because other people think it. I've said that by observing other people, I've made decisions for myself.

So, sorry if I'm insulting your precious America, but it's just what I think. I'm not thinking it because anyone else does, and if someone else thinks it? Well, that's them.

Also, I can't stand the word, "meme." Like, I get and appreciate the concept of memetics, but "meme" is a Funk stupid sounding word.

I'd like to add to my list of things I hate that everyone else likes:

My freaking computer. Everyone who's been in the part of my house containing this thing seems to love it. I personally despise it because of the fact that I have 30 anti-virus notices to close every time I turn it on.

They're not even real anti-virus programs, to make things worse. They're all fake companies like WinAnonymous and stupid crap like that.
