The new Pride and Prejudice movie... Cool feeling. Can't explain.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I can also see audio effects and noise. For example, putting delay on a guitar causes me to see 2 guitars, one slightly to the right of the other, and blurry. Tape hiss looks like a buncha tiny dots moving.

Apparently I have phonographemia.
I always thought that was normal. Weird.

Well, apparently I have morphographemia and phonographemia. For some reason, if there's an evil wizard/witch/blah blah blah in the story, they'll have a weird, raspy British accent. o_O

My evil wizards all tend to sound like James from Pokemon.

I'm pretty sure I only have the "normal" ones that most people seem to have, but I think it would be really cool to be able to taste sounds or hear colors or something.

I was just wondering: is it the same for people with the same type of synaesthesia? Like would guitars taste like chocolate to everybody with geusaphonia?

Syn reactions are usually different from person to person. If the color green smells like oranges to me, you might think it smells (or perhaps tastes) like window cleaner.

I saw this article a while back:

some article wrote:
Many birds, especially those that migrate, can use the "Earth's magnetic field to stay their course during long flights. Scientists still aren't sure how they do it, but one recent study suggests birds might have a form of synesthesia that lets them "see" the planet's magnetic lines as patterns of color or light that is overlaid on their visual surroundings.

So magnetopsia? That would be pretty cool.

I hear voices when I read things.
Like forum messages and random books.

I can make the voices sound like the actual characters in things like a Simpsons or Futurama comic.

Also, I can feel music.... and not as in sound waves. I mean FEEL music...

When I close my eyes and I hear a noise, sometimes, not always, I see a flash of light but it's not always associated with the same color. I don't know if that applies.

I associate numbers and letters with male and female sexes. I was just wondering if anyone else out there did as well.

examples:
0 male
1 male
2 male
3 female
4 female
5 male
6 female
7 female
8 female
9 female
10 male

a female
b male
c male
d male
e male....

When I hear certain sounds, I can't describe it, but I feel a sort of crippling pain, sort of like a panic attack. Like I double over and I start sort of clawing at my head. So, I think I have barophonia.

That's kinda cool...

"Cool?" :P Meh, the only sound that makes me feel all unsteady is that of a fire alarm.

This afternoon I went back to my old house, from when I was a kid. I sort of got this wave of different feelings, which I get from that place, and I don't get where I live now. It made me really sad...

Most languages do. English is one of the few languages that doesn't assign genders to objects.

Schmelen, I think that's coming from your old memories and stuff from living there. I wouldn't consider it synaesthesia.

Guys, don't tell your friends you're syn. XD I did and they spent a whole lunch period making noises in my ears and telling me to draw them.

It's really hard to draw them accurately, for me. They all seem to be made of shaped light. Light is really hard to draw, like to get the shading right and everything.

Oh, and I've started getting into dance, pop and techno lately. Some of the effects look really cool.

I made the mistake of putting Syensthesia in a science report of mine, and everybody in the class started freaking out like, "OMG! Katie has superpowers!!!"

Myrrh, you should check out Joy Electric, Justice, Daft Punk, and Norway. They're some of my favorite electronic bands. ;)

I was afraid to post here at first, because Myrrh would think I was lying. But hey, whatever. I'm not a synesthete (I don't think), but I have a lot of stuff like that.

For one thing, different letters have distinct appearances and personalities for me (some synesthetes do that). Not all of 'em, though. Also, some letters, like the letter A, appear as people, but others, F, are just the letters themselves with features. And then there's S, who takes on two forms. O.o For example, the letter A. He has brown hair and blue eyes, and he's all shy and sweet and soft-spoken, but he tends to be a pushover, and he's kinda sensitive. S is yellow as a letter, but a guy with black hair and a green jacket as a human. I never can tell which form he'll take in my brain. He's, like, super-duper-over-achiever guy. He's smart and logical and he's a very good leader, always taking charge, but he tends to patronize people. F is just a total snob with her nose in the air all the time. You know what I mean. She's pink, too. There are others, but I don't want to bore you.

I also see glowing colors in black-and-white images. They flicker on and off a lot (think Jonas in The Giver), and black-and-white optical illusions are especially cool because the colors sort of melt together and slide over the bumps in the image like waterfalls. It's pretty!

Lastly, how do you guys see the week in your mind? Synesthetes often picture time passage differently than most people (one girl views the whole year as a ferris wheel). I see a black ribbon with teal on each end. The ribbon is divided into seven boxes, with Saturday and Sunday being the teal spots. The ribbon goes straight up and down, but the teal ends curl over slightly, seemingly so that when the week is done you fall off of Saturday and onto Sunday. The whole thing floats in a dark blue abyss. And I see my brain as color-coded, each category a different color. There's a blue ball of light that travels around my brain and pulls forth the information. That is physically what I see when trying to retrieve information from my mind. You guys see stuff like this?

Yeah, all that does make you a synaesthete. Except for the color stuff in black & white art; I'm pretty sure that's normal.

Time? For me, I sort of see time as an empty space, with lots of little floating specks of light.

I see the week as sort of a roller coaster - the 'humps' represend the weekends. It's pretty much a gradual incline all the way untill Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, then a big drop-off to Monday.

Hm, I never /did/ mention this before, but I can 'see' certain words in my mind when I hear them, and they have a distinctive, consistent look to them. "Hearts" is bloody, written on a slant, and the blood drips down a bit..."Wolves" is bright red against a black background in a weird scratchy form of handwriting, "Termination" is grey and looks like it's melting, 'forever' is made of some kind of metal that's chipped and rusty, and "sky" is golden and written in a medievalish way. It only happens if I hear it, not if I read it. :/ Is that syn?

yeah i don't know all that much about synesthesia, but it is an incredibly fascinating topic for me, mostly because i don't have any of those connections and correlations of sensory perception. i've heard and read some really interesting things, and i think it's super duper cool that this thread is full of more interesting stories and descriptions of the phenomenon. i'm sure those of you that are synesthetes get pretty tired of the same questions, though :P. still, really interesting thread! *goes back to reading*

I do, but I don't know how to describe it. I dunno... maybe everyone has synythysytha. But... not all that much. For some people. Anyone agree? ...I'm gonna shut up now.

I hear voices when I read something.
Mostly my own, if I'm reading a letter or the forum.
But if it's a book, I hear voices that relate to the characters.
Like the hero-type guy will have a strong masculine voice.
The damsel in distress will be all high-pitched and needy sounding.

I always thought that was fairly regular for everyone too.

My friends and I were discussing how we viewed numbers, letters, and the years at lunch today, so I made this: http://i16.tinypic.com/2mrfhc6.jpg
