This book is surprisingly more mature and darker than the others, I must warn you. The neding is the ifrst ending that leaves you truly pensive rather than chuckling at Snicket's zany humor. As I said before, this one dives deeper into the concepts of good and evil.

But even so, its still uproariously funny.

I got it today...I'm in Chapter 2, and I really like that cool mirror affect he toys around with.

And, Snicket spils who dies again...*sigh*....

No, he doesn't. He spills that their is indeed a death, which is what he normally does, although in the early books, he also spoiled WHO dies, which was- incredibly annoying and completely diluted the effect. But not this time 'round.

Yes...I finished it the morning after I posted that...

I never found what you were talking about. Yes, it is very Morbid. and funny. But where is that whole psychology thing? That destiny thing? I guess I agree.

When Dewey drowned, the last word he says was Kit. Why is this?

Also, does anyone know the whole deal with the Night at The Opera and Poison Darts?

Well, I tohught the night at the Opera thing was yet another mystery that Snicket decided to include in his novels. The poision darts kept coming up - it seems that the Baudelaire parents may have been the ones who left Olaf orphaned...

Well, I think overall, throughout the book ,i t explored the more human side of all of the characters (especially Olaf), and the Baudelaires grew continually discouraged as too whether they were truly Volunteers or Villains. Also, I thought the ending was quite emotional...

And at the end, it says Dewey left the one he loved pregnant. Kit is pregnant. His last word was "Kit." It all adds up...

Really? I never saw that....but I already put two and two together and decided that. I was asking on what you guys think.

EDIT: I think I'm going to re-read the entire series, excluding 12.

1. I need to catch up. I forgot that Lucky Smells Lumber Mill ws owned by a relative!And Hugo, Colette, and Kevin were a complete mystery to me when I heard they were in the book.
2. I got to read for Book It I multiplied all book pages, and it leads into the 3 thousands. This is sweet.

I finished it on friday. It was the best book in the sieries I think. The end is the best, and dramatic. And yes, the movie way TERRIBLE! It left out a lot of the good parts from those books. Those are only ment to be books, not movies. The way he wirtes it, it can only be a book. I can't wait for #13 to come out! Any predictions?

We watched the movie on Saturday, after experiencing first-hand A Series of Unfortunate Events after missing our performance time, and one of the girls getting in a car accident.
Not the best time to watch that movie.

Thats...odd.

Considering there's a car crash in The Reptile Room, which is what one of the things the movie is based off of.

I''ve never read any of the books but I saw the movie over the weekend and it was pretty good. But I don't understand what the significance of the spyglass was. And how was Olaf able to change his leg for his different disguises?

Ever see those pirate costumes where you put your leg into the peg? Or do you mean the lack of a tatoo? He used makeup to cover that up.

Personally I hated the movie, they turned Olaf from an evil man into more of a bumbling fool.

As far as I know, the spyglass was the thing that was supposed to start the Baudelaire fire. Also, as far as I know, this is not how it happens in the book.

Maybe the spyglass is a thing to come in the 13th book. I don't know. The movie wasn't accurate..neither is my spelling
