Is the NYU footage still available anywhere?

I only now found the torrent link on the discussion page for this appearance. After wrestling with my computer to convince it it's not actually an .avi file and as such should be opened with BitTorrent, not WMP, I now see it's dead. Can anyone open a torrent window to it again, or is it basically lost to slowpokes like myself now?

NYU? They went there? Coolness. i never knew that. I probably coulda gottne my parents to take me, or even let me go by myself, had i known -

I didn't know there was a torrent available until this thread was posted. Being an avid BT user, I immediatly got the torrent, in hopes that the thread would bring in some seedage.

At first, I used BitTornado, but it couldn't work with a udp tracker. I asked around and learned that Azureus complied with udp trackers, but to no avail--it constantly announced that no seeds or peers were available. Upon learning (once again, via this thread) that BitComet was the reccomended client, I downloaded it and tried again; but BitComet, too, is reporting no seeds or peers available. It seems to be having problems accessing the tracker.

Could this have anything to do with the tracker, or is the problem simply on my end? Is a simple solution available? Or should I simply take The Paper up on their generous offer? The only reason I am hesitating is because of some minor issues the Postal Service has had down here (South Alabama) recently.

Mininova may fulfil our tracker needs. They seem to have a few restrictions for torrents posted, but I think the TBC at NYU video fits the requirements.

I'm not really familiar with all of the trackers out there, so I did some searching and found Public Torrents. I don't know how stable it is, but it says that everything is accepted, and the torrents are posted on the site annoymously.

With both of these sites, if the torrent is uploaded, we may get some random leechers from the site. I'm not sure if we are required to upload the torrent to their site when using their tracker, though, but it seems like the probable etiquette.

Assuming you know how torrent-making goes, just make a new torrent with a the announce urls from whichever site you chose as the tracker. I don't know if one can change the tracker on already-made torrents.

If either of these aren't what you want, the Wikipedia BT entry has a list of trackers and so forth at the bottom and further information.

They are places to upload torrents, but they also provide announce urls. For Mininova, it's http://tracker.prq.to/announce and for Public Torrents, it's http://www.uwn.granerohosting.com/ddlxt ... nounce.php . These urls are what actually control the distribution of the files in the torrent.

I don't believe you can use more than one tracker per torrent. However...

Azureus and BitComet still report the tracker as not responding.

But Trackerless seems like it would be a great solution. I hadn't noticed it before (I need to read what I link to more thoroughly...) From what I can tell, just download the BitTorrent Beta 4.1.4 here. Using it, create a new torrent for the TBC at NYU video (File -> Make new torrent), and select the "Use DHT:" radio button.

I'd suppose everyone would have to check that "Enable Public DHT Network" box as well to use a new trackerless torrent with BitComet. Where was that option?

This is a 1.66 GB file, and would take a long while to send via AIM. This is why we're trying to get a torrent up and running for it--those downloading will also be uploading it to their peers. This means everyone is helping and one person isn't having to do all the sending over and over again.

Or, if torrents aren't your thing (for whatever reason), you could take The Paper up on their generous offer.

Right, except I've been trying this download for a long time, and it won't connect. The links above posted aren't helping, and I just thought someone might help me out with an alternative solution.

While they are currently working on finding a working tracker (or method of making the torrent trackerless), let me just say that I'm having success in my method of postal mail distribution.

The first two people to request a DVD were DJ Soul Camel (from the UK and he initiated this thread) and ThunderbirdL17 (from Canada and he's a sysop like me on the wiki). Both of them send me funds via paypal and I've since sent them a DVD-R of the complete NYU footage.

Okay, I've created another torrent: TBC_at_NYU_1_Mar_2005-2.avi.torrent

It's DHT enabled from the start, so let's see if we have better luck with this one.

Still no luck. BitComet isn't getting any response from the tracker at all.

If you're using BitComet to create the torrent, I think this might be causing the problem. BitComet supports downloading and seeding from trackerless torrents, but I don't think it yet supports (not even in beta) the creation of trackerless torrents.

I tried making a test trackerless torrent with the latest BitTorrent beta containing only a .jpg file. The torrent worked fine for me in both BitTorrent and BitComet (stable and beta versions). So using the BitTorrent beta to make another one using DHT should work in BitComet (hopefully). If not, I'll purchase a DVD from The Paper, but I'll be happy to keep helping with the torrent. I'll be sure to seed if I do get the DVD.

Still not working... I have no idea what's going on. I don't see any reason for the torrent to not work, so... I'm seriously thinking now that the problem's on my end. People downloaded it before, so it doesn't make sense for it and two subsequent torrents to not work properly. I'll ask some of my friends (who know much more about BT than I do) if they can take a look at the torrents and see if they know of a solution. If they come up with anything, I'll post it here. Until then, I'm stumped. Thanks for taking the effort to try and fix the torrent so many times, though.

By the looks of it, it appears that you received my package yesterday (delivery confirmation)! Be sure to tell me if you could play the DVD on your player/computer OK. And if you prefer the AVI or the MPEG version.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I still have this footage and the wiki's article is still incomplete and only partially transcribed.

I'm sure many of you transcribe more accurately than me (but it also doesn't hurt to have additional sets of ears). So, I've posted several clips of the event on YouTube. I hesitate to upload the entire 1h50m video for multiple reasons I won't cover here.

Alternatively, if you would like to view all of the footage, feel free to send me a PM. A low cost option seems to be snail mail and I had success sending this DVD-R internationally to the OP of this thread.
