Haven't tried these guys personally, but it's at a very good price, and they seem like they have all the technical specs I'd be looking for. Not that I really know all of your requirements, but I figure it's worth a tiny look at least.

Currently we run on dual Intel(R) Xeon(TM) 2.80GHz processors.

MediaWiki is pretty PHP and mySQL intense, and I don't think a Celeron could come close to being able to handle our load.

Thanks for the tip though.

Just wanna say welcome back to the Wiki. I've been dying over the last few days! I really hope the bandwidth issues get resolved. I'll be donating as soon as possible!

Are we just going to have to get used to not having the last week of the month? I don't think I can go on like this. I literally sat at the computer and just stared at my homepage. Without the wiki, there's nothing to do.

Ah, that's what Seethroo's refugee camp is for.
Next time you see this place down, come over to Seethroo's place. We have a section dedicated to the wiki when we go down. It's a cool place.

Well, the good news is that we're back up and running. And we have another....25 days until this happens again.

I think this month it went down sometime on the 28th. Last month it went down on like, the 25th, or 26th. I don't remember other than it was earlier.

The wiki went down in the early hours of July 28. The wiki went down in the late hours of June 25. (UTC)

Why? I could tell July was a slow month. Vacations, lack of shake-up updates where we practically have to restructure the wiki, and other reasons are to blame (or, praise).

If we have the same bandwidth allotment this month (and I think we do), I expect the wiki to go down sooner this month than last month. We will have a lot of DVD edits, and there are 5 Mondays this month instead of 4.

What I worry about is those of us who visit more than once a day :)
It's my intention to donate someday. No guarantees.
In the meantime, maybe we ought to discuss...."efficient forum visiting"! That's how we use the forum as to also use lesls bandwidth. Although it is a little troublesome. The smilies would be named ": hr :" (without spaces)...well that one already is. ": sad :" would be just ":ss:" "cheat/cheatgrin" = "cht/chg" "coachz" = "cz" so on and so forth. If possible. That would save a liiitle bit. A more troublesome one is for you to hold your finger over the escape button. If looking through a long thread for something in particular, press the escape button to stop loading just as the page loads so you don't load the entire page, only the numbers. (That could be improved on anyways- when looking through the memberlist I have to open up page after page because if you're on page 2 it only shows 1, 2, 3 rather than 1, 2, 3, 4, 5....you can't skip 2 or 3 at a time.) And the simplest one yet, if the forum's all yo ucan do, get a life! :marzi: There's a world out there; don't you feel bad about not appreciating it?

A very grim quote that could be used for sig:
"Every time you post, five African kids die of hunger." Sort of made up the stat, but the truth is while you're sitting around lounging in AC, there are people suffering around the world for various reasons.

This is exactly why I intended to use the 509 period to take a vacation off the compy, especially online life - and I couldn't even make it to Saturday night. I'm such a Forum and chat addict. :p

Who is your hosting provider? I've got some contacts with some decent and reasonably priced hosts. I've got a site with about 20 gigs of bandwidth (on a reseller account) for about $10 bucks a month, not sure if they put their site back up or not, but I can contact my contact and see what kinda deal he could give all ya'lls.

That's obvious, Crash.

Donate instead of complain.

I do the complaining around here.
And if you can't donate, that's fine, you just can't come any more. :p So you need to send $300 to my hous---er, the wiki. Which I will gladly give you the address for if you PM me. And then you can continue coming.

Yep, we go out every month. Not your browser or computer, don;t throw it out the window like last time.

I think if you can, try not to upload pictures to the forum or wiki, and instead uplaod them to nyour own site. If a lot of people do that, that will help, but this should probably be on the error 509 thread.

It not so much that you can get cheap bandwidth its the system resources it needs to pull of a server, and a computer that has those resources has higher priced bandwidth.

Just to give you a vague idea on what we are using... your 'contacts' would need to have dual p4 xeon 2.8Ghz, 2Gb of memory (if not more), and more then 200Gb of transfer each month.

And that's only for the last few months. We are still growing

A lot. :)

We have some solutions that will hopefully be going into place before the end of this month. You will know what we want you to know, when we want you to know it :)

Why don't you want us to know everything? You can trust us! (Hides stolen $20 bills)

Seriosuly though, I'm sure we're all glad you're doing things to help with this. We all want to help and we all hate it when the bandwith runs out, so anything we not-so-worthy-of-knowing-what's-happening-people can do to help out will be great when it comes. Maybe if I have enough cash lying around I'll donate sometime.

That's right. All you need to know right now is that I need your money. All of it. Because I demand it.

Seriously, though, keep your pants on.

F'real.

I don't really need to know what's going on, only that something is being done. I'll trust the words of our admins (Seethroo, maybe not so much) that the 509 will begin to go away.

I'm prooty sure I know what's going to happen, but apparently I'm not allowed to say, so I won't. But maybe I'm wrong, I dunno.
