Actually, a lot of the characters have jobs. Not just the Poopsmith.

Homestar: Office worker
Strong Bad: Office worker
The Cheat: Office worker
Bubs: Concession stand guy
Coach Z: A coach
The King of Town: Doesn't have/need a job, he's a king
The afformentioned Poopsmith: A poopsmith

I don't know about the rest.

Shouldn't there be a superheroic protector of justice in FCUSA? Maybe one of the characters can be a Superhero for a part time job

Um...how could he be a hobo if he was a Coach, hence the name, COACH Z?
That would be a job, so he would presumably get money, and presumably use that to buy a house.

Homsar: Kids show host (e-mail "For Kids") Marzipan: Health food advocate/Spokesperson for World Wildlife Foundation? Heh, I thought about this already cuz of my fanfic I totally think Homestar could be a gym teacher. Gym teachers like... don't require brains. And after seeing what a good aerobics person he makes, it seems to suit him. I think SB fits in at an office somewhere. I imagine him as a cubicle slave because of his computer use. I see Marzy managing a health food store. One of those alternative foods places. The ones that sell those spritzers in a can and weird "all natural" potato chips. I'm still thinkin' on the others.
