Post subject:  Entirely New Series?
Not sure if this should go in "Toons" or "General" category... but if it's wrong just move it please.

After looking at the sketches that Matt C. sent the wiki with the donation, it dawned on me that perhaps they shouldn't just introduce new characters... but perhaps another series entirely? I don't mean now of course (unless they could handle two series simulatneously) but eventually when H*R gets old they could start an entirely new series.

The sketch of the king guy wearing a huge oversized crown appealed to me quite a bit... and the shroom-headed looking guys are actually pretty cool. I was just thinking that they could start an entirely seperate series with new characters... either as another website when H*R finally starts getting old or running out of ideas... or as a seperate collection of toons on the site that are entirely seperate from the H*R world. I'd use Cheat Commandos as a reference or TGS... but they still reference the H*R world with the use of the Cheat and of course Strong Bad drawing the TGS toons/comics.

But you see what I mean? I think they should just limit themselves creatively to just the H*R world... who knows what awesome ideas they might have with another series?

What thoughts do you guys have on this... and any ideas for what the seperate series could be?

Well, even if we did gewt tired of H*R and even if they did make another series, it would be the same sense of humor so it wouldn't make much difference. It's like American Dad and Family guy, they're almost exactly the same, except with different characters.

As I agree that a new series would be funny, and homestar might get old 2 long time fans like me and others, mat and mike cant handle that! I mean, they cant totally delete the characters! And they cant do 2 different websites if ones already 5 years big! Mybe when homestar runners done, but until then, no new charcters.sry.

I'm not asking for them... I'm just curious what you guys think... can't do H*R forever. I agree they should just keep doing H*R.com, but eventually they'll have to stop. But do we want it to be the end of TBC Toons? I'd like to see them do a new series when that happens.

He never said anything about deleting Characters. And why couldn't they do two different websites? I agree it's be pointless, but they could still easily pull it off.

I don't really think they'd make another, completely unrelated series. They've covered a lot of ground with H*R, it would be very challenging for them to come up with something completely new after all this time and have it be a success.
I think they've got a good thing going and I hope it lasts as long as it can. I just hope that when it's time to lay H*R to rest, they won't cop out and sell it to a network where what little life is left in it will be blown to smithereens. Let it end with dignity.
Of course I hope that day never comes, viva H*R!

Post subject:  My two cents.
TBC are funny in a variety of ways and have created the different characters to channel the humor through. Hence, as long as they can come up with new humor, they can put it out through H*R. If it ever needs to end, it'll be because TBC are out of ideas. Once they are, someone will probably buy Homestar Runner, and if we're lucky, they'll keep it funny.

It could happen and still be a success. The Simpsons were around for ten years before Futurama came around, and they were both extremely good even when the creator was working on both at once. But then again, the Homestar universe is extremely flexible to the point where new characters and new worlds can easily be inserted into it, allowing TBC to experiment with diferent styles all the time. So I guess an entirely new series wouldn't quite be necessary.

I doubt TBC will ever make a new site.
If they want to take a break from Homestar Runner, they branch off from it and continue with another series, e.g. Cheat Commandos, Sweet Cuppin' Cakes, and others that may spring up. They'll just work on that until they're ready to continue on with H*R.

Lets just say when you're an artist, you just draw things. I know, my freind from my okd school always used to draw stuff, she'd draw whatever she thought of. I'm sure Matt has milliosn of pages of scetches with characters that he just thought up on the spot, quite like those. I think if they amde another series, it wouldn't be as good. My freind (WHo actually is the artist i was talking abotu earlier) and I were talking about Harry Potter, and we were talking about what would happen when the series ends, and she said something about a whole different series, but I said it wouldn't be as good because this time she'd be trying to make something that would be as sucessful as HP was. The same would go for HR, both of these things started out as something small, anbd then they got bigger and bigger. If TBC were to make another series, I think they'd be trying to hard to make it good enoguh to live up ti H*R's standards.

Yes. But that doesn't count. They did that for cash. I don't think they tried too hard on that... although if they did, that's a good example of why they should NEVER make another series and just stick with H*R. You guys have discouraged me from liking that idea at all. lol.

This all depends on when Homestar ends. If it ends in say, a year (God forbid) then I'm pretty sure that something like this would happen. Mike and Matt make their money from H*R, and when it ends, the money flow is probably going to slow down. I'm sure that H*R will be going for quite a while, though, and right now there's no need for a new series.

This thread reminded me of Matt Wilson, though. He seems to have like a million side projects like the one that was mentioned in the first post.

I don't even think H*R is going to end anytime soon.

Matt, Mike, and other people live off the income of this show. No show, no income. They would be insane to end Homestar now, or anytime.

But the Toast Wizard looks like he deserves a cartoon. :p

Those new characters could maybe end up being something like what Cheat Commandos is, just another set of characters that have a few toons.
