There was one part where a blue blur goes by and if you freeze it and zoom you can see his face.

I'm not going to bother to find it.

I am almost certain that you're incorrect. But really, you'll have to be more specific than that if you want anyone to be able to believe you.

I'm pretty sure on a different forum someone had a similar claim as you, but it turned out to just be Wario.

Edit: Found the screenshots. Heh, even Bigfoot has it better.

Ya know, I actually like playing with no items, and Final Destination can be good at some points, but I'm not one of those prissy fanatics that go insane if it's not like that. I mean, my favorite stage is Hyrule.

Seriously, anyone who says that tournament players suck the heart and soul or whatever out of Smash and avoid items and random stages without cost is completely misinformed and misses the point.

The rules only apply when they go to advanced-level tournaments, often when money and fame are on the line. If you don't ever plan on going to one of these, don't complain. And when just hanging out in their room with friends, there's a good chance that these same users turn on the items and play any stage they want. It's not like the half of the game that you love oh-so-much and hate to see some people avoid for who knows what reason is deadly to a tournygoer and must be avoided at all costs.

(And yes, I will keep popping up if someone keeps feeling the need to take jabs at people who play differently than them. There has to be someone defending them in this terribly anti-tourny forum.)

Fame is relative. I'm talking about amoung the fanbase, and where are indeed several "celebrities" amoungst it, like Ken.

And yes, I know it's nerdy. Let's not go down that road again.

Frankly, I think these "advanced" (if you can call it that) tournaments are a colossal waste of time. But as long as they keep it to themselves and don't bother the rest of us, I'm fine with the tourny-goers.

What bothers me is when they try to force their opinons on those of us who couldn't care less about tournaments and then act butthurt when we get mad. I'm not saying you do that, Josh, but there are people who do. Unfortunately, you'll always get this kind of crap when money is involved.

True dat. It also bothers me when tourney-only players look down upon Casuals because we: 1, don't wavedash (which is a pointless thing to do IMO); 2, play with items; 3, play on "broken" stages like Temple.

It doesn't make you better because you know these "advanced" strategies and beat people without items. True enough items can be random, but isn't there just as much chance that you'd get the beam sword as someone else? Items add a whole new dimension of strategy and timing to the game. Not using items doesn't inherently make you better, stop acting like it does.

(BTW Josh I'm not specifically targeting you, but most of the "Advanced" players who feel the need to look down on Casuals as inferior and that they don't play the game right)

But no one's trying to force their way of playing Smash on you, unless you have some jerk friends in real life or something. Or if you actually go visit a tournament, but really, that'd be your own choice and you should expect to have to follow whatever rules they set.

Yes, it's true that not playing with items or on "broken" stages does not make you a better fighter. A total loser could play by those rules and wouldn't be any better at the game. So yeah, anyone who claims their better because they follow tourny rules deserves a punch in face.

However, and I mean this with no disrespect, but it's denial to think that you'd be a better Smash fighter (in regards to winning) than a regular tournament goer. The advanced techniques (just because you don't see their uses doesn't mean they don't have any), toned reflexes, high knowledge of the game and tons of practice would give them an upper hand in a fight.

And these skills don't exist simply because of a lack of items or crazy stages, you make it sound like if you dropped a tournament winner on Brinstar Depths with items he'd suddenly lose all his skills. This just simply isn't the case, strategies and techniques would still carry over, and just because they choose to not play one way doesn't mean they're completely unable to adapt.

This doesn't mean that casuals are inferior as far as players go, as they simply play at a different level. But you have to admit that without putting a lot of practice and effort into learning the game, you wouldn't really be able to win most of the fights against someone who has, just like with any other competitive game or sport. However, as a "casual", winning against players like that shouldn't be your goal, and this shouldn't bother you.

And while this is addressed to you, it applies to me as well. As much fun as I have playing seriously with my friends (sometimes without items on Final Destination), I have no tournament experience and looking at YouTube videos I know I wouldn't hold up in a real tourney. Personally I'm hoping Brawl's online will help me in this aspect.

Heh heh, I'd hope not. I just finished a play session with most items on, with full random stages and mostly random characters. I play "casually" all the time. :p

And if you have friends who are at your level at Smash, I'd suggest playing some itemless rounds on levels like Final Destination just to experience a fight focused solely on the fighters themselves, rather than the stage or items. Who knows, you may like playing Smash a slightly different way.

Why would I want to argue with someone as closed-minded as you anyway? (regarding your second sentence mostly) Yes, there are some jerks in the competitive scene that put down casuals. But it's plenty clear that the casual side isn't free of them either. Those walls of text weren't even addressed to you.

Then your definition of fun is extremely skewed. My definition of having fun with Smash Bros. would be inviting a few friends over and just playing with our favorite characters and on our favorite stages. Not getting srs bizz about a tournament. I don't understand how that could be fun.

Oh, it's just this crazy theory I have that perhaps "fun" is just an opinion and that it varies from person to person, and that some people enjoy things that others don't.

But that's crazy talk, isn't it?

It's not like tournaments are full of super-serious drones and trash talkers, people hang out and laugh and have a good time even in a real competitions.

Look, Josh, as much as you hate to admit it, there are some pricks who take SSB way too seriously. You're not one of them, we get it. But I'm saying they do exist.

Like I said before, when money's on the line everything seems to become 100 times more srs biz. But when people act like that outside of a tournament, that's what bothers me.

Second hand knowledge. I guess I don't really know for sure, though I doubt so many people would go to them if none of them were having fun and enjoying themselves. I'm pretty sure very few actually win cash.

I never denied it. It's pretty obvious that there are tourny pricks who do that and talk down to more casual players (I actually know Dylan Tnga is one, who extremejon quoted earlier), just like there are casual pricks who think that their way to play is the best and everyone else sucks.

The thing is that no one is talking about the jerk minority, it's always the whole "tourneygoers" or "casuals" groups condensed into one, or more accurately, the ways they tend to play.

On the subject of tournament legal and whatnot, I'd like to point out that I don't use items, but I'm not "hardcore", nor would I call myself "casual".

It's just that items are annoying, especially when the computer reaches that Hammer/Starman/Cloaking Device/Home-run Bat/Pokeball before I do.

I don't know about smelly computers, but when I play with items I tend to have a select few of them that me and my siblings deem annoying and unbalanced turned off. Hmm, let's see... Heart Containers, Maxim Tomatoes, Party Balls (for food showers), Starman, and for accidental running-into reasons, Bob-Ombs, Super Mushrooms and Mini Mushrooms. This tends to make a more enjoyable experience for all.

Overalls Wario as his own separate psuedo-character? Not bad.

Makes you wonder who else may have this treatment. Mario's my biggest guess. Dr. Mario and Paper Mario are both candidates.

...So... Who thinks we'll get blasted with a bombshell on Christmas?

I'm hoping we do. Another third-party character, a renovated Ganondorf, something cool.

You watch. Now it will be something like the Item Switch. Just to smite those of us in hope.
