Paintbrush is the stage name of a synth composer who writes floaty, new-age music of the Vangelisy sort. Was popular in yoga circles for a while before Paintbrush started adding harder beats to his/her music. (Paintbrush is androgynous looking and refuses to disclose his/her identity. In a stoned way, he/she generally responds with "Meditate on the state of 1988" in lieu of an answer.) Nuclear Fruitbowl |

Nuclear Fruitbowl is made up of two twin sisters in their early 20s. They still wear their hair in peppy braided pigtails, and wear lots of rainbow tie-dyed shirts with sleeves so long they can't pick up objects. They have high-pitched voices and their songs, instead of singing, are more "squealed". Their music is driven largely by the electric harp and synthesizers. Edible Destiny |

An R&B band, with organs featured heavily in their music. Not especially popular, but they do have something of a cult following. The Qighty |

Okay, The Qighty just rocks out loud. A mixture of influences from soft alternative to loud hardcore metal, combined with the power of the talented musicians on accordion, keyboard, guitar, drums, and the POSITIVELY GORGEOUS lead singer, makes this band perfect. You saw that one coming. Experiences With Tape |

Sticky Wickets formed in the East End of London as a progressive new wave band with a punk edge in late 1979. They were notable for being early adopters of the LaserDisc format and released all of their singles exclusivly to LaserDisc. Sadly this obsession with large shiny discs proved fatal to record sales in the early 80s. Their most notable single was "Has anyone singed the hair?" which rapidly climbed to the number 7 spot on Japanese charts. The band broke up in 1985 over a dispute over switching to audio cassette. Neal Barton's Dark Nebula Project was a one-person band that released one self-titled album. It relied heavily on synthesizers and over-distorted guitar shredding. This album appealed to people with nothing better to listen to. The Love Slippers |

The Khomeini's were an Iranian hip-hop group formed in 1986 that simultaneously embraced and rejected Western influences. They enjoyed a brief stint as the only live act to incorporate live ordinance in their stage show. Their break-out single "If the Ayatollah Can't Have It!" literally rocketed them to the top of the charts after a performance in Iraq where they were literally fired into the stratosphere, briefly becoming stars. Of course, they never reached the success of the next band: Pürple Helmüt |

Jonn to the E was an 80's band that parodied high school stereotypes in a Village People-ish fashion--there was the cheerleader lead singer, the jock on drums, the geek on synth, the exchange students on guitars. They wrote sarcastic songs that sounded like a combination between beach music and oldschool rock. Later Meaning Yesterday |
