"I'll pass" Eruantian said after some deliberation "As tempting as the helm and cloak are, I just can't part with the rings."

The Gnome nodded: "Very well. It'll cost three gold to re-align the ring with your aura. If you've have a seat, I'll get my tools and begin the process."

Eruantian sat down on the chair provided and the Gnome started to do his thing. He got out a set of crystals and placed them in an adjustable contraption that held the crystals in various positions. Then, the gnomish talismonger recited some arcane words, snaped his fingers a few times and said: "Alright, lets have a look. Hrm, no, still out by a hair... Oh, I see the problem. Your oros essa is being affected by that intelligent ring you have... there's a bit of an overlay effect there. I'll need to compensate for that. Let's see... I'll need to adjust the exis gia up by a quarter of a degree... yes... yes, and the plunim mater has got to match the vibrational frequncy of your ring's exigs manum getium.... Oh, I'll need to measure for that. Uh, hold on a second don't move. I've got to get some more equipment." The gnome climbed up a ladder and rummaged around in a cabinet. He came down with a crackling bolt of lightning and a bowl filled with silvery water. He put the bowl on a table and placed the bolt of lighting in the bowl. When he did this, the bowl immediately crackled to life and began shooting off small sparks, but the bolt of lighting disappeared. The bowl sat there, humming as if alive and occasionally shooting off a little spark, which would invariably fall back into the bowl.
He said: "OK, what I need to do is measure certain aspects of how this ring interacts with your biology. I need to make two measurements: One while the intelligent ring is inactive, and one while it is active. So, if you could take that intelligent ring off and put your hand in the bowl, we can proceeded. This may feel a little tingly, but don't worry; It's perfectly safe."

"If... If you say so." Eruantian reluctantly agreed as he removed his ring. He moved his hand towards the bowl and said "Are you sure this isn't going hu-..."



"ZZZZIIIGIGIGIGIGIGIBLBLEBLEBLELBELBEHGAAGIGIGAHJIJAGHJAGHJAGJAHGJZIGZIGZIG !!!...*thud* "

The Gnome said: "I told you it would tingle. Now, once again with the ring on."

Prosper stepped back from the suddenly annoyed lizzard. The boy didn't wan't to risk a fight. He started to try the diplomatic track; "Now look I didn't say you didn't. All I asked you is what happen-." At this point Marcus had turned his attention to Andrew.


Prosper backed away even farther from Marcus. What had happened? Marcus was acting like more of a beast than usual! Prosper began to say something, but thought better of it.


Prosper rubbed his eyes as if to say; "Dear Lord, now what?" The boy spoke up. "Well, somebody's got to go after him." The young rouge began walking in the direction Marcus had gone. Hopefully he'd be able to get a word in before he was pummeled into the ground.

Eruantian pulls himself off the floor and over table with his hair still sizzling and smoking. With his eyes closed, his teeth clamped shut, and his ring in place on his finger he slowly moved his hand towards the bowl again...
"GIGYAGIGYAGIGYGIGIGIGIGYAAAARRRRGGGGBLBLBLBL!!! *rethud* "

The Gnome nodded: "There, that wasn't so bad, was it? Now let me see what we have here." He pulled a sort of measuring tool from his pockets and did something complicated with the bowl. A few minutes later, he took the ring of teleportation and placed it in a box. he then did some more arcane phrases and candle lighting and such, and then took it out of the box. "All done. That'll be three gold, please. Oh, and let me get you something to drink. On the house. You look a little dry." He pulled a bottle from out of a drawer a handed it to Eruantian. It was water, but it smelled faintly of lemon. Lemon-water, apparently.

"S-s-s-ss-ssounds g-g-ood to me..." Eruantian said as he pulled his jittery self off the floor. He picked up the glass and asked "W-ww-what about the defaced runes on the other two rings, though? Can you remove the ogre runes and restore the original elf runes?"

The Gnome said: "I could do that, yes. It would be a lot more work, though. I'd have to re-craft the surface of both rings, and that takes time. I'd say at least two weeks. And you'd have to leave the rings with me while I worked on them."

Meanwhile, back at the entrance to mines....

Marcus smelled something... odd. It was like the stench than clings to a rotting corpse, only it wasn't quite the same as that. Very strange. Whatever it was, it was upwind from him, and getting closer.

The Lizzard threw a boulder into some trees. He was not one happy guy. No thanks for all that he did. Especially from some human boy, whose life he saved! Silly, stupid kid...

Marcus's tail suddenly twitched.

Somethin' doesn't smell right...smells like death...

He carefully drew his sword, his muscles even more tense. They rippled and bulged all over his scaly hide. Prosper's scent suddenly came across Marcus's snout. Acting on impulse, Marcus jumped a perfect 180 and spotted the boy.

"What do you WANT, boy?" Marcus snarled. "You'd best be going. This place isn't safe for the likes of you."

Maria said: "Something... unnatural comes this way. Can you feel it, Horin?"

<Yes, he can. It's the Undead. They're baa-ack.>

"Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of time" Eruantian said before he gulped down the lemon water, which was apparently MUCH more sour than he thought it would be. "That stuff could use some sugar" He said as he pulled three gold coins out of his pockets and handed it to the gnome.

"I would of felt that thing's chi if it was alive" said Andrew, "And if it's not alive, it must be...undead!"

Wait, Marcus and Prosper are currently in the woods...they could be in danger, oh no!

Andrew got out his staff (he still has it) and ran towards the direction of Marcus and Prosper, hoping the two were safe.

<Eruantian's rings all now work as they should. So, he can teleport himself back to the party whenever he wants. Like, oh, NOW for instance.>

Maria and Captain Sealem drew their swords, and Drek notched his bow. "What is it?" Drek said?
This was answered with a dull groaning sound, which was joined with dozens more. Maria said: "Sounds like Zombies."

"Look, Marcus. I'm sorry I offended you. I didn't mean to. And I am thankful for you saving me all those times. Let's head back to the group alright?" Prosper was closer to the lizardman, right in front of him, and looking up at his large muscular frame, the boy hoped that this would make amends. He was unaware that anything was amiss, but he had brought his spear. He wasn't completly stupid...

<Sarge, is Prosper's amulet doing anything? He is pretty close to the zombies, although weather or not they're connected to the Drow is beyond me.>

Huffing and puffing, Marcus stared down the boy for what seemed like forever. He looked like he was about to snap Prosper in two. After a while, though, the Lizzard calmed down and lowered his sword.

"Yeah, let's go back," said Marcus as he took Prosper's arm, "Just stay close to me. I'll protect you."

The death-y smell was getting closer, and stronger. It felt like a wind blowing across Marcus's shoulders. Marcus turned around but neither saw nor heard a thing.

"Here." Marcus picked up Prosper and carried him under one beefy arm. "We'll get back faster."

<So far, Prosper's amulet isn't doing anything.>

"Thanks for the help" Eruantian told the gnome "Perhaps I'll return one day to purchase an amulet or something. Good luck with that thief problem."

Eruantian put the two gold rings on his necklace, Narluin on his right ring finger, and the silver ring on his left ring finger. To test the teleportation over a short distance, he thought hard about appearing before the guards down stairs.

Prosper stared up at the boy for what seemed like forever, then stared down. He took a few deep breaths to steady himself for a potential beating, then looked back up. Finally, Marus spoke.


The boy breathed a quiet sigh of relief, then, wondering what Marcus was talking about, he suddenly remembered that they were in hostile territory. A whiff of air told Prosper everything he needed to know; something bad was about to happen. Prosper readied his spear, and walked at a fast trot with the lizard-man.


"Whoa-" said the rouge, then resolved himself to being carried, since they would get back faster.
But even though they were moving much quicker Prosper thought he heard groans...

In the blink of an eye, Eruantian appeared in front of the two guards outside the tower.
"Ah, he's back. Did you get everything you needed, sir?" said one of the guards.

"IT WORKED!" Eruantian shouted before he responded to the guards "Almost. Now I need my sword returned."

The guard said: "Ticket, please."

Eruantian handed the guard the ticket.

The guards said: "One moment please."
Then he turned and opened a small compartment on the side of the tower, fished around inside for a bit, and then pulled out Eruantian's sword and handed it to him. "Here you are. Thank your, come again!"

"With this ring working again, that shouldn't be too difficult" Eruantian chuckled as he equipped his weapon and made certain that it was sheathed securely. "Farewell" he said before he willed being next to his equipment.

And oof: Eruantian vanished.

He re-appeared next to the party.

Eruantian thought a grand entrance would be rather amusing, at least to him, so he shouted at the top of his lungs "HUZZAH!" the moment he appeared.

Andrew was near the edge of the woods and then suddenly a zombie attacked him. The zombie tried to claw the monk but Andrew dodged the attack and poked his staff through the chest...but the zombie was uneffected. The zombie attacked Andrew again, this time with his teeth but the monk was too nimble and counter-attacked with a punch to the zombie's head, knocking it off.

Andrew pulled his staff from the decapitated zombie's body. And looked to see the zombies nearby and readied his staff for the next attacks.

<OOC: I'm going to be away from my computer for a week so Andrew is a NPC, bad timing eh?>

The zombies shambled forward.
"Brains" one said.
"Brains" another mumbled.
"Mmm... Brains... More brains." One in the back grunted out.

Apparently, they were in search of brains.
