While Eruantian surrendered his sword, it occurred to him that his rings could be considered weapons. To the letter, 'no exceptions' could just as well mean 'no matter what the weapon is' as its intended meaning 'no matter what reason or person'. Eruantian inquired "What if someone were to have a rod that could... I don't know, call lightning from the sky or some such?"

The guard chuckled: "A rod is a rod is a rod. Magic or not, you could still bash someone over the head with it. So, no: That wouldn't be allowed. But even if you did get it past us somehow, you'd find Mister Findley would be immune to it's magic."

The second guard said: "Right. See, this 'ere tower makes Mister Findley immune to magical attack so long as he stays inside."

The First guard said: "And oddly enough, he never leaves."

"Ah, I see" Eruantian said quite relieved "So I won't be apprehended for bringing these in?" Eruantian put the four rings on his golden necklace and presented it before the guards. The removal of Narluin from Eruantian's finger returned his skin pigment to normal and doused the light in his eyes.

Edit: <OOC> Is the Teleportation ring the Signet ring or other gold ring? </OOC>

"I see, lad." Horin said, chuckling at the tiger sking. Lizardmen weren't the brightest creatures ever. "Would ye like that to be tanned or anything? It'd get rid of the wetness and make it not rot and all that."

"Eeep?"

Marcus turned to Horrin and cocked his head.

"You can do that? That'd be great!" The Lizzard smiled and gave the Dwarf a big ol' glomp.

"Well, I'm sure I could, if we have time. So do we then?" Horin asked, pulling on his beard.

<OOC>Would it be alright, possibly, if there was some utterly pointless spell that would tan it? I mean, if I'm not mistaken, tanning is basically heat and a few other things, so it'd be more likely to just speed the process or something.</OOC>

<GM's Note: You're mistaken. Tanning involves tannins, as I just explained a few posts back. But, just for fun, let's say that Horin has a spell that can tan a hide. Let's call it 'Tanning of Gildrith' The spell will make any raw animal hide or fur pelt into it's tanned equivalent. It cannot tan living skin. Also, keep in mind that this does not magically make an animal pelt into a fur coat; That involves sewing and cutting, two things this spell doesn't do. Gildrith is the Dwarven god of merchants and workers, by the way.>

The first guard said: "Nay. We scanned you for contraband when you walked up. Here's your weapon check ticket." The guard handed Eruantian a small shaving of wood with the number 253 burned into it, and with some arcane markings etched into the back. He then tied a similar wooden ticket to Eruantian's sword and turned and unlocked the door to the tower. "Go on in. He's waiting for you, I expect."

<OOC>Oops. I meant to say a few other things we wouldn't have. Tannins can be found in teas and several kinds of berries. That'll work, then. Danke. Methinks Prosper needs to take it off first, though. :P </OOC>

"Once the skin's been tanned," Taryn piped up, "I can make it into something for whoever decides he wants it."

"I didn't know you could sew," Acedia remarked, turning her head and looking up at her friend. "I can't for the life of me..."

"I didn't know you couldn't," Taryn replied with a raised eyebrow. "I figured that was just one of those things people are born knowing how to do. I just happen to have a needle and thread, is all," she clarified.

[GM's Note: Perhaps they just have magic items of detection. Or perhaps they're really mages dressed as fighters. Or perhaps they're not real at all, but just an elaborate illusion. Ah, the wonderfully diverse world of magic.]
The door seemed ordinary enough. It was made of iron and the door handle was brass. Beyond the door, a spiral staircase made of brick led up. The same spiral staircase also seemed to go down, but that part of the staircase was closed off with a locked metal gate. There was a sign above the gate that read, in big block red letters:

No Admittance. Authorized Personnel Only.

and then in smaller print beliow it:

By order of the proprietor.

"Well, this is all conveinient." said Prosper about the tanning spell and Taryn's sewing abilities. "Marcus, you just found this creature out there, and killed it?" Of course, by now everyone had forgotten that they were in the middle of the Drow's territory.

At the top of the stairs was another door, but it was open. It led to a large area crammed with books, trinkets, and items of all descriptions. What more, the room seemed to be larger than should be possible given the width of the tower... but there it was, big as life.

Eruantian stepped into the dimensionally incorrect chamber and gazed with wonder at all the magical devices that resided within. There were rings and amulets and wands and circlets and scrolls and tomes and books of all shapes, colors, sizes, and designs. It would seem as though wondrous items were not quite so rare as he had once believed.

One book in particular that he had walked past caught his attention. The pages left open were blank. When he stopped to flip through the rest of the pages, he saw that they were all blank. When Eruantian closed the book there was a talisman on the front cover.

A very well-dressed Gnomish man came around a corner. He clasped his hand together with apparant delight and said: "Ah, a customer. Splendid, splendid. Welcome to my shop. How may I help you?" The Gnome was only about three and a half feet tall. He was dressed in purple and red silk with gold trim, but the style of clothing was of a fashion Eruantian was unfamiliar with. His skin was very dark, but his eyes were ordinary enough. He wore a broad-brimmed hat trimmed in gold thread and with long feathers tucked into the hat band. He also had several rings on his little fingers. Around his neck was a platinum-faced amulet set with several gemstones and glowing with a magical light. He wasn't armed.

<OOC> How in Balder's Gate did I know he would be a Gnome? </OOC>

Eruantian was quite humbled by the Gnome's array of gems and jewelery, and reverent even despite his stature. Eruantian's assortment of magical items suddenly seemed no quite so distinguished as he had once believed.

"Uh" Eruantian uttered in aw of the Gnome's talismans "Oh, um. I came here because one of my rings accidentally teleported me to... Where ever this is... One of my other rings told me where to find you, assuming you are the talismonger."

The Gnome nodded: "Ah, you have an intelligent ring! You're very fortunate, do you know that? Those are very rare, very rare indeed. But yes, that's me. Findley W. Gnbunaulger, Talismonger, at your service. As for where you are, you're in the Kingdom of Ioma on the island of Lantan. Now, which ring was it that you had the accident with? May I see it?"

Andrew responded to the talk about the tiger skin saying "As interesting as this skin may be, unless it will help in the stealth of the Drow Ritual, I think we need to focus on the stealth first and the tiger skin second."

"Very well." Eruantian agreed as he took his rings off of his golden chain. "These are the Rings of Klebia. The silver one with the three gemstones is the one that teleported me. The other two have deity runes that seem to have been defaced by ogre runes." He handed the Rings of Klebia to the gnome and put Narluin on his right ring finger and transformed into his icy self. "This one is Cor en Narluin, the ring that guided me here." Eruantian pointed Narluin at the Rings of Klebia and said "Scan, identify, and outline functions and flaws for all three rings for the talsimonger."

"Yeah..." Marcus lumbered up to Prosper. Even though he was just over six feet tall, the Lizzard felt hundreds of times bigger than the boy. "...you got a problem? I went to look for some food and found a tiger. And now we have food and a tiger skin. You're *Lizzard-tongue obscenity* welcome, kid."

"And as for you, monk," Marcus walked over to Andrew, "I don't see you leadin' us in any kinda stealth. Who kills the big beasts in our group? That's right. ME. So shut yer human face before I eat you. THAT GOES FOR YOU TOO, LITTLE BOY!" He snarled, stomped over to the Captain, took the tiger pelt in his claws and ripped it to shreds. Stripes fell everywhere.

"There, now nobody gets to wear the tiger. I'mma go find another one." With that, the Lizzard ran off, his muscles looking like they were going to explode.

The Gnome said: "Ah, yes, yes. I've seen this sort of thing before. It should be easy to correct the problem for you. However, I wonder if you might consider a trade? You have four rings, and as you know you can only ever use two at one time. Perhaps you'd like to trade one of the rings for something else? I do have a wide assortment, you know. It's not just what's in this room. Would you like to see my catalogue?"

"Oh great." Eruantian silently thought to himself "Another sales pitch. I'm at a disadvantage in these sorts of deals. Don't be a fool. Don't be a fool. Don't be a fool." Eruantian gave it a little thought and came to the conclusion that looking wouldn't be of any harm. "I'd rather not separate the Klebia collection" he responded "But I'll see what you have."

Eruantian was astounded by the vast selection this little man's catalogue detailed.

<GM's note: The catalogue sorted by category. Rings, amulets, pendants, clasps, broaches, cloaks, capes, boots, hats, gloves, belts, and assorted armour. Basically, it's you can think of it, this guy probably has it. However, nothing he has is quite as powerful as any of the three Rings Of Klebia are, and Narluin is apparently in a league of it's own. Each item has a price listed in terms of how many gold coins it takes to buy one. Each item is noted as being also available in a non-enchanted form, and those are listed at very reasonable prices (many for just a few silver or copper). The simpler enchantments are valued in terms of tens or hundreds of gold coins, but the more powerful items are valued in the many hundreds of thousands of gold coins. There is a wide range of items to choose from. The back of the catalogue notes that custom items can be made to order.>

<GM's Listing: My top four.

Talisman of Pure Good - A good (LG, NG, CG) divine spellcaster (Cleric, Druid, etc.) who possesses this item can cause a flaming crack to open at the feet of an evil (LE, NE, CE) divine spellcaster who is up to 100 feet away. The intended victim is swallowed up forever and sent hurtling to the center of the earth. The wielder of the talisman must be good, and if he is not exceptionally pure in thought and deed the evil character may manage to survive. Obviously, the target must be standing on solid ground for this item to function. This is a limited-function item, and can hold up to six charges.

Scarab of Great Deflection - This pin will generate a force-field around the wearer that will constantly deflect any and all incoming projectiles. This includes arrows, crossbow bolts, bullets, darts, rocks, sprayed or squirted liquids, gas bombs, dragon's breath, and thrown knives. It does not protect from melee combat. It also does not protect the wearer from psionic attack, hostile spell casting, a fall from heights, asphyxiation due to lack of oxygen, or drowning. These are it's only limitations.

Cloak of Pelor - This cloak grants the wearer several benefits. First, it causes all who look upon the wearer to see a much more charming and charismatic version of the wearer than actually exists. Secondly, the wearer becomes completely immune to all disease and poison. Thirdly, the cloak can cast Cure Serious Wounds three times a day on the wearer. Fourthly, the wearer becomes immune to any and all illusion, charm, domination, hold, and enthralment spells. Finally, the cloak can light up to illuminate a 30' radius around the wearer for as long as the wearer may desire.

Helm of Greater Sanctuary - This helmet causes the wearer to be ignored by everyone around him, unless he deliberately calls attention to himself by attempting to interact with those around him. The wearer can move freely and my perform other actions as well. Even then, only those he chooses to interact with will take notice of him, and only while he is interacting with them. As soon as he stops interacting with them, they will resume ignoring him. Moreover, the wearer becomes immune to any and all detection spells. Golums and other magical Constructs will continue to ignore the wearer even if he attacks them. Creatures with extra-planar awareness (astral sight, etherial projection, etc.) are unaffected by this item's power.
