"Good point, Drek," Taryn remarked with a shrug. "Although there's really no harm in Marcus coming along. We need not be stealthy. Others of my own kind dwell here. They are aware of us, and because I am here they will not come out of the woodwork, so to speak." A very, very faint rustling that could easily have just been wind sounded in the small clearing at this. "The only feasible route, considering the fact that we have a wagon, is via a path that takes us directly through the very heart of the woods. No one ever uses it, and the only threat present along this path are spectres, which I have already said will not harm us."

"Oh" said Prosper. He looked at Eruantian, "You'll be fine, ok?"

Suddenly, Marcus smelled something...tasty! A wild pheasant was nearby, and it smelled big and juicy. Just the right size for a little snack for a growing lizzardman.

"Hey! I smell a bird! A yummy bird!" Marcus went off the path into the trees in search of the peasant, muscles tense and claws drawn. He didn't need his sword or his dagger.

The Lizzard spotted the bird in a small clearing. "There it is...all...MINE!" Marcus leapt for the pheasant...

... which immediately exploded in a puff of blood and feathers as Marcus ripped into it. However, as Marcus landed, he found himself face to face with a tiny little man, about 10cm tall. (That's about four inches for those of you who are Metricly challanged). The tiny little man had a look of shock and surprise on his face and was clad in (mainly) green clothes that seemed to be made out of leaves and vines. He let out a little "Eeep!" and bolted in the opposite direction. However being equipped with such little legs, he wasn't going very fast at all.

Meanwhile, back at the wagons, Maxwell said: "Ok, we'll try this road of yours, Taryn. Lead on."

Marcus stood up as the little man slowly scurried away. He picked him up and dangled him from his left claw.

"Why, hello there, little man! Who might you be?"

The little man screamed in terror and then passed out. His limp (but breathing) form dangling gently from Marcus's left claw).

Marcus flicked the tiny man with his other claw. "Is he dead? Nope. Still breathing." His belly began to rumble. Which it did a lot anyway.

{maybe I'm tired but that made me laugh. XD}

"Thank you, sir," Taryn said with a smile. "Now let me see..." She murmured to herself, working out where the trail was from their current location. "North! We go north!" She pointed decisively in the announced direction and took a few steps. "There is a stream in this direction; however, it is small and shallow, and if all else fails I do believe I have materials to make a passable temporary bridge stored somewhere."

Maxwell said: "Which direction does the stream flow, Taryn?"

"East," Taryn replied simply. "It flows east and then turns sharply south, where it widens and begins to move much faster."

"Well, since we're moving North, that means we can trek it upstream untill it turns East." Said Farnham.
Maxwell nodded: "Sounds like a plan. Ok, let's move... out...um... what's Marcus doing? Is he playing with a doll??"
Maria said: "No, I think it's a Pixie.. or maybe a Leprechaun. Hey, Marcus, what you got there?"

"Now why on earth would you go so far out of your way? The stream cuts across our path directly. To cross it is simply a matter of about two of my strides, if even that." Taryn looked back at Maxwell and Farnham. "Silly men."

"I dunno what he is." Marcus said. "He is little, I know that. And I'm hungry, too." The frequently-hungry Lizzard drew the tiny man to his scaly chops...

"MARCUS!" Aurieul shouted as she saw the little man Marcus was holding. "You've got your pheasant for a snack. Bring that little .... whoever over here."

"But-I-I-...aw, fine." Marcus reluctantly took the tiny whatever-he-was and plopped him down into Aurieul's open hands. "You take him. I'mma eat my birdie. That I CAUGHT with my BARE CLAWS, thank you very much!" Marcus snobbishly lifted his head up, took the pheasant and began eating it. "Now I have a birdie, too, Drek!"

[OOC: I have a huge test to study for all week, so Marcus is an NPC. And I had a great story, idea, too! :(]

Drek grinned. "Yes, I guess you do, Marcus. Just do me a favor and don't try to eat Goldwing."

"A brownie!!!" Eruantian screamed with glee at the top of his lungs, pointing at the miniaturized man.

Taryn jumped at the sudden loud noise from Eruantian. Her eye twitched. "If he weren't under some kind of drug or spell I'd probably, I don't know, confiscate a limb or something for that," she muttered, still twitching slightly.

The rodent Acedia, being uncomfortably squished in her current location, squeezed out from between the containers and contented to ride curled up on Eruantian's stomach. How he'd take this remained to be seen.

"Eruantian! Settle down!" Prosper said. He was getting impatient to go. He said to Maxwell; "Those Drow knew where to find us, we should go before more come."

Maxwell look properly chastised. "Oh.. I didn't realise that. Well then... let's get moving. Everyone follow Taryn."

Farnham sheepishly picked up his pack and hoisted it on his back.

Maria sidled up beside Aurieul and said: "Actualy, Eruntian might be right. It could be a Brownie.. but it's hard to tell just by looking at one. I've really never had much contact with the faerie-folk, so I'm afraid I don't know what kind this one is.
Anyways, I think we'd better put it down and leave it alone. The faerie-folk can't survive long if they get too far from their homes, and if we take him with us he might never find his way home."

Captain Sealem went over to Maria and said: "Aye, I agree with Maria. It is not wise to meddle with the faerie-folk."

Just then the little man opened his eyes. He looked around and said: "Oh me oh my! What happened? Where am I?"

Aurieul just about dropped the little man. "Oh! Hello, I'm Aurieul. Our friend Marcus found you and wasn't sure if you needed help." I hope that doesn't sound like a blatant lie...

The little man appeared dubious of Aurieul's words. He stood up, crossed his arms and said: "This Marcus.. he wouldn't happen to be a green scaly Lizzardman that fancies birds for food, would he?"

"Maybe?" Aurieul knew she shouldn't have lied. She'd never been very good at it. She hadn't really practiced the art much growing up.

The little man looked around and spotted Marcus. Somehwta flustered, he said: "Aye... aye that's him. Well. uh... You know... I panicked when he... I mean... a big scaly lizzard... all teeth and claws and... um.. I mean I didn't realize he wasn't a beast..."

"Aye, I like the birdies." Marcus smiled. "Anything with meat's good for my muscles. But I've never eaten a little person like you before."

The little man, still somewhat frightened, turned to Auriel and Maria and straighthened himself up. "Well then. Allow me to say thanks to ye for your.. um.. assistance. I am Jorn Thein of the Gusiragh Baough. I'm a Brownie. Pleased to meet you. Where are we headed?"

"We're headed toward the old carriage path right now," Taryn broke in. "Or we were, and then Marcus found you."

Acedia ran in a small circle on Eruantian's stomach and then curled back up again, muttering something about how it would be nice if they might be on their way once more.

Jorn Thein said: "Oh my, I feel I should warn you: I hear that The Felldale Pixies tell of much trampling of plants and cutting of trees in that area. An army of some sort is camped thereabouts. All the woodland creatures that survived have fled that area. If I were you I'd turn back now... but from the look of I do belive you're not gonna turn back, are you? Well, I'm not that brave so If you'll be kind enough to set me down, I'm going home.
