Marcus's eyes followed the eagle to Drek's arm. His tongue ran across his toothy maw.

Then, out of nowhere, Marcus leapt toward the eagle with a scaly roar, his sharp claws drawn in attack mode. The eagle flew up into the trees, and Marcus landed flat on his face, getting his kilt all dirty.

"Owwwww! Stupid eagle. I SHALL HAVE MY REVEEEEENNNNNGE!"

Drek looked down at the lizardman lying facedown in the dirt. "Marcus, would you mind telling me what you were trying to do there?"

Marcus stood up, embarrased, shaking the dirt out of his kilt. "Just...natural animal instincts, I guess. That eagle was suspicious."

As Acedia watched the Eagle and Marcus do their thing, the oddest thing happened. As she watched, she was also able to see the scene through the Eagle's eyes... as if she was in two places at once This only happened for a few minutes, and then it stopped.

<GM's Note: This is the special magic power I said I was gonna introduce earlier. Acedia is now able to see though other wild animals, but she can't control where and when this ability triggers... yet. More to come...>

Meanwhile, Maria was recovering nicely thinks to Horin's magic healing. The wound had closed nicely and she was starting to gain some color back. She regained consciousness, mumbling something in a language nobody presently understands.

<GM's Note: Maria is originally from a time some thousands of years ago, and so her mother tongue is actually the "Very Old" version of the present-day "Common" tongue, much the same as how the "Old" versions of English, French or German bear little or no understandable resemblance to their modern-day counterparts. That is, if I dropped you and me into the time of William The Conquerer, we probably wouldn't understand most of what was said.
For example: {Old | Modern}
[1] Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum, | Father ours, thou that art in heaven,
[2] Si þin nama gehalgod. | Be thy name hallowed.
[3] To becume þin rice, | Come thy rich(kingdom),
[4] gewurþe ðin willa, on eorðan swa swa on heofonum. | Worth(manifest) thy will, on earth also as in heaven.
[5] Urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us todæg, | Our daily loaf sell(give) us today,
[6] and forgyf us ure gyltas, swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum. |and forgive us our guilts as also we forgive our guilty(lit. guiltants).
[7] And ne gelæd þu us on costnunge, ac alys us of yfele. Soþlice.| And 'ne lead'(lead not) thou us in temptation, ac(but) loose(release) us of evil. Soothly.

Are we confused yet?

Drek sighed at the lizardman. "Marcus, my friend, you are truly lucky I don't keep track of the times I've had to apologize for you."

He stopped to pick up a chunk of meat from one of the geese before heading over to wear the eagle was perched. "Come here, friend, Marcus won't harm you. He is just a bit... overzealous at times." Drek held the meat out to the bird. "See, I've got some food for you."

The Eagle let out a excited "Screee!" and flew down, swiping the meat from Drek's fingers and flying up to another tree with the meat in it's beak. It proceeded to glup it down, and then it flew down and landed on Drek's arm again.

Maria said: "That your bird, ranger?"

Maxwell said: "Guys, we'd better get moving. I don't think it was an accident that those Drow found us. There's probably more of them on the way right now. Let's break camp and get ready to roll out."

<and now, because the idea of Reaver has been brewing in my head all day, a short cut to Tem:>
Reaver.
Tem needed to see reaver, possibly the most dangerous but still dependable Flayer out there. Tem knew exactly where he lived, in a hut not far from Targos. He opened the door to reaver's ramshackle hut. Reaver was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, Tem saw a figure leap from the shadows onto him, yelling a rough translation of, "No one enters Reaver's hut! Reaver lives alone!! Oh, wait, hey there Tem." Reaver noticed who he decked and got up. "Reaver, I need a ride to Squiddly man mountain. We both know you have a tunnel right below our feet leading straight to the capital, an illegal one I've never blown the whistle on. Take me to it, help me start a rebellion." Reaver looked dubious. "There'll be plenty of killing..." said Tem enticingly. Reaver smiled, revealing his extra-sharpened teeth. "Follow me." he said.

Prosper sighed, no one seemed to be paying attention to him. "Well, whatever happened, you'd better move him." Prosper was walking back to Horrin when he saw a parchment on the ground. It was glowing faintly, like one of Tem's etheral creations. He took it to Farnaham. "What does this say sir?" he asked. "I found it in the woods."

Horin walked over to the group of people surrounding Eruantian. "What happened to 'im?" He asked, then he added. "Put him in the back of my wagon, I'll heal him on the way out."

Acedia stood blinking several times with three fingers of her right hand pressed lightly to her temple. "What just happened?" she asked to no one in particular. "It was like I was that eagle for a second..." she murmured.

After transporting Eruantian over to where Horin could treat him, Taryn gingerly set the half-elf down and then went to see why Acedia had suddenly frozen in place and stared wide-eyed at absolutely nothing for a few seconds just then. "What happened? You just stopped moving there for a minute. What were you looking at?"

"Your guess is as good as mine. For a second there it felt like I was the eagle that Drek's made friends with over there, or something," Acedia said with a shrug.

"That's just a wee bit strange."

"You don't say."

The group proceeded to strike camp and prepare to get back on the way to White Dragon Peak.

Marcus carefully walked up to the eagle, a claw-finger extended in a sort of friendship. Now he wanted to be friends with it.

"I won't hurt ya...I won't hurt ya!"

The eagles proceeded to fly off Drek's arm and peck the living daylights out of Marcus's head, noisily flapping its wings about.

"No! Bad bird! BAD! GIT OFFA MEEEE!" Marcus thrashed around trying to get the eagle off his poor head. "HELP ME, SOMEONE!"

Drek called out to the eagle and it flew back to his outstretched arm. "Marcus, I think it may be best if you stay away from the eagle for now. As for your question Maria, she's actually a girl, and I don't think she appreciates being called a 'birdy'. Anyway, I think I shall name her 'Goldwing'.

Maria nodded "And a fine name it is too. Goldwing."

The bird flapped it's wings and rustled it's feathers a bit, but it remained on Drek's arm. It seemed happy enough.

Acedia could see through the bird's eyes again... it had spotted a rodent moving along the ground and it was getting ready to hunt it.

Taryn, having noticed that her friend had frozen in place again, waved her pale hand in front of Acedia's face. "Hello? Anyone home?" Taryn tapped lightly on Acedia's head. Soon enough, Acedia came to.

"Watch the eagle. It's after a mouse, there," Acedia said, gesturing to where very, very faint movment could be spotted among the dead leaves and grasses adorning the forest floor. "Why is this happening to me?" she wondered aloud. She walked up to Drek, careful to avoid the mouse and stay out of the eagle's way. "Drek, something weird is going on with that bird," she announced. "Twice in the last few minutes I've gotten the strange sensation that I was seeing things through its eyes. For example, in just a moment it will very likely jump from its perch and devour the mouse on the ground there. That's what it's looking at. I don't know if the bird is enchanted, or what is causing this. I would advise you, however, to ask Michael to check your new pet out, make sure there's nothing sinister lurking beneath that beautiful plumage."

Drek nodded. "Yes, that is very strange. We should speak to Michael, and probably Horin as well, to see what they think. I've been meaning to talk to Michael about the magic arrows those Drow were using, anyway."

Goldwing the Eagle sprung from Drek's arm and swooped down to the forest floor with a "Scree!" and when it came up, there was a white rat in it's claws.
It then disappeared into the treetops, but came down again a few minutes later with fresh blood on it's beak and no rat. It alighted onto Drek's arm again.

While this was happening, Aceida was seeing the scene through the eyes of an unlucky little rodent who got picked up by an eagle and eaten.

Micheal walked up and said: "Hey look at that. An eagle. You never told me you had an affinity for forest animals, Drek."

Drek shrugged. "I'm a ranger, it sort of comes with the territory. Anyway, I do have a related question. Acedia says that she has, twice, apparently seen through Goldwing's eyes. Goldwing's the eagle, by the way."

Micheal rubbed his chin and said: "Hrm, that's odd. I wonder if it's Acedia's mysterious charms that are doing it. The Eagle itself certainly isn't magical. No manaforce bunring in it's aura or anything. Let me take a good look. Hold on, I'll be right back."
And with that, Micheal went Planewalking and disappeared into the Astral Plane. Moments later he was back, with a pleased look on his face. "Found it!" he said. "Looks like Acedia's charms are reaching out to all sorts of animals all around here, but just the kinds associated with the forms each particular charm can make her turn into. When they find one that Acedia has some sort of proximity too, they latch onto one and she becomes linked with it, letting here see through their eyes. She just needs to practice with it and she should be able to control it at will evntualy."

<GN's Note: When planewalking, time passes faster on the Astral Plane compared to the Prime Material Plane, which is why it seemed to take mere moments for Micheal to do what he did.>

Micheal nodded: "Looks like a fairly standard incantation. They're enchanted with an evocation, linked with the Lower Planes, that expires when the sun next rises. That means the caster was either a wizard who has a demon bound to his service, or an evil cleric of some sort. That's the bad news. The good news is that the effects should also expire when the sun next rises, so we only need to wait until then and Eruntian should be back to normal again."

Marcus helped strike camp, carrying most of the stuff on his back, as usual. He still felt stupid for attacking Goldwing, but there was just something about her that made him want to slash the feathers off of her. Perhaps it was just that common animalistic connection, that natural inclination to fight. However, had Marcus been a Feral Lizzard, he would have been all over the eagle by now.

{ Guess who just got home from winning FIRST PLACE FOR IMPROMPTUS AT SPANISH STATE??? :3 *celebratory dance* }

Acedia definitely did not need to feel as though she was on the giving end of an impromptu lunch. Once she snapped back to reality, she promptly vomited. "I don't think I like this new power," she mumbled, wiping her mouth off and then going and getting a drink. She also made a mental note not to ever eat snake meat again if she could help it.

Taryn, in the meantime, had quietly discovered that she could take another new, horrifyingly fantastic form. She'd sneezed, and that trigger caused her to catch fire. And then she began to shrink and change shape until she bore resemblance to a phoenix, though was not quite one of those legendary creatures. However, so as not to burn more of the forest down, she quickly figured her way out of the form again. She made no comment on this new addition to her repertoire, however, aside from the enigmatic remark: "I'll have to check my back later."

Aurieul couldn't decide if it would be better to help pack up the camp, hide in the woods for another cry, or stay by Eruantian since he seemed to need her right now. Maybe this is what being a mother is like. Doing something you don't want to because they need you. Did you ever feel that way Mother?

<He's drugged, and Horin doesn't have any spells that counteract drug effects. However, you could probably concoct some sort of herbal remedy to ease his delirium.>

Maxwell started pulling his tent pegs out of the ground and wrapping them up into his backpack. Farnham was doing this same.
