Horin stood up from bending over Maria. "I don't know, but giving up doesn't seem like a good option." He glanced over at Tem. "Could you tell if they had bows?" And then he looked back again at Prosper. "Guard Maria, I have to get the arrow out before I can do anything, and I can't do that while under fire." He ran over to his tent and grabbed his hammer from underneath his bedroll. "Let them come." He said to Tem. Then he noticed Tem looked too peaceful for the knowledge of being captured in the next few minutes. "Or not."

"I'm still going to defend myself, of course, but these are bandits. They live off of stolen goods. But, eh, nevermind. That damper seemed a bit too tailored to me. These are drow." he said. He grabbed an arrow, nocked it to a bow, and fired at a psychic impression. He heard a scream. "Yeah, that's what you get, PUNK!!"

Tem's arrow hit one of the snipers (and he would later find out that he'd nailed a sniper in the face), but by firing an arrow he revealed his own position to his mysterious attackers, who them started firing at him. Thanks to Tem's psionic abilities, he knew the arrows were going to be fired moments before they actually were, which afforded him the crucial moments needed to get behind a tree, which he hastily did. Arpws flying all around him, he ducked for cover. However, despite his best efforts, a barbed arrow nicked his right leg, tearing a small gash into his skin and sticking into his pant leg. Ouch.

Realising his attackers much be using some form of illusion to mask their positions, Micheal cast Dispell Illusion:
Quote:
Dispell Illusion: This very powerful spell will instantly destroy any and all illusions within the sight of the caster. This applies to any spell effect that has Illusionary forces as part of it's spell type, as well as to the spell-like abilities manifested by some creatures. Illusionary effects created by Artifacts Of Power or by self-sustaining Enchanted Objects will only be temporarily disrupted by this spell. This spell produces a very serious amount of fatigue in the caster, and will often result in immediate unconsciousness in the unprepared. However, if the caster has access to Metamagical abilities, he can often reduce the fatigue from this spell quite considerably.

This instantly made the attackers plainly visible to most of the party: They were indeed Drow, as Tem has surmised; About 30 of them, all female. Why Tem hadn't been able to see the others before was unknown to him, perhaps they had some sort of anti-psionic trick up their sleeves. They were perched in the boughs of trees, about fifteen feet up, with dark black metal bows firing equally black metal-shafted arrows at the party. All were clad in black cloaks over studded-leather tunics, with only a dagger for close-combat defense.

Despite the massive amount of fatigue Micheal was enduring, he managed to stay conscious long enough to shout "I've broken their invisibility spell! Get them!" before the fatigue was too much for him and he had to sit down behind some bushes, breathing heavily.

At that same instant, Drek caught sight of the snipers becoming visible, so he readied his bow and took careful aim....

"crskjfbvsdkjfgvksdjgvf!" yelled Tem, getting out from behind the tree long enough to telekinetically snap one's neck, but then, an arrow actually went through the tree, imbedding itself in his arm. He pulled it out, but then, when he tried using psionics or ethereal weapons, they just fizzled. He also was a bit woozy.

Drek saw a Drow aiming for where Michael had sat down and quickly fired off an arrow at her. The arrow embedded itself in her shoulder, and she cried out. Drek pulled back another arrow and fired, taking her down. This had the unfortunate side-effect of alerting several other Drow to his presence. Three of them saw him and pulled their own bows back, ready to fire.

Miraculously, Eruantian had not yet been shot. Coming up to the area where the Drow were perched in trees, Eruantian saw that they were not in reach of his sword, so he picked up a rock and hurled it at one of the Drow. Just after the Drow fired at Drek, the rock managed to hit one of them in the side of the head, knocking her out of the tree.

When she hit the ground, Eruantian ran up to her and held his sword at her neck. She was already incapacitated, but Eruantian was out of his mind and furious about all the things the Drow had taken away from him. Eruantian wanted her blood to be shed.

He held back his sword to thrust it into her heart, but then there was a sudden, agonizing pain in his left upper-arm. All that Eruantian could hear was his breath and heart beat... slowly... loudly... He began to see in slow motion. He could actually see the arrows fly from the bows of the archers and tell where they were about to hit.

Eruantian found that he could no-longer stand, so he fell to the ground. Images of Eruantian's life began to flash before his eyes; images from long before his time in Targos. His eyes began to fade to black as he saw one last image. The last word out of Eruantian's mouth was "Mother" before he lost conciousness.

I have got to learn to use a bow and arrow. Note to self: Ask Drek next time we have a spare second, because we'll probably have 3 more battles before my next chance.

Aurieul had immediately taken cover behind a tree after the first arrow pierced Maria. Then, since she still wasn't too proficient with weapons, she decided to help out where she could with the injured. She figured Maria was better off in Horin's hands (I wouldn't want to do something wrong and kill her accidentally), so she looked to see if she could help elsewhere.

Tem had some injuries as well, but he kind of scared her. Not quite right in the head and such. Then she noticed that Eruantian had attacked a Drow and was falling down. He didn't look injured, but he did seem to be in danger. And this Drow was on the ground, which meant her dagger could be useful! Aurieul quickly (and stealthily) worked her way toward the Drow and Eruantian.

As Aurieul got closer she realized Eruantian had been hit by an arrow and that was why he was down. However, unlike Tem, Eruantian was in more immediate danger, what with the Drow standing over him and no tree to hide behind.

Prosper saw Tem fall, but he was behind a tree, he should be ok. Looking around, the young boy saw Drow everywhere. How are we going to get out of this one? Prosper looked up into the branches of the tree. He got an idea. Working quickly, he climbed the tree untill he was halfway up. He then began making his way twored the nearest Drow...

Tem, though completely without powers, was by no means powerless. He still kept weapons, real ones, on him too. He unsheathed a small sickle and used it to hook onto a treebranch. Then, he made a perilous jump to another tree, tapped on one Drow's shoulder, saying, "Hello M'Lady" and cutting off her head. However, his arm lost its grip, and he fell from the tree, only catching himself on his sickle few yards from the ground. He dropped the rest of the way.

{ o_o things got exciting really fast. }

Taryn found the bitter lupine Acedia curled up in an old and long-since abandoned wolf's den. The taller woman quickly squeezed in through the opening made for a much smaller wolf's body.

"Acedia?"

"What?" she replied, sounding angry (for no apparent reason).

"You need to come out n..." Before Taryn could finish the sentence, the whizzing noise of many many arrows being fired simultaneously interrupted her. The sounds were close. Thankfully the main room of the den was just to the left of the entrance, so a quick scoot brought both woman and wolf out of danger for the time being. Apparently a few of the Drow archers didn't think Taryn ought to miss out on the fun of being shot at. "Nevermind, I think I'll stay in here with you."

"You know, unless they're spelled, the bolts won't do you much serious damage," Acedia remarked curtly.

"I know. But I don't want to take that chance. Maria's already been shot through the neck." Taryn shrugged.

"Maria?"

"That paladin that Eruantian and the other girl appeared with?"

Acedia shook her head. "Whatever. Is she dead?"

"Not as far as I know. But we're still under siege."

"Whatever in the world could possibly have given you that crazy idea, Taryn?" asked Acedia with as much sarcasm as she could muster.

"Perhaps its the fact that there is a constant stream of pointed metal projectiles flying through the air in front of this cave, Acedia," Taryn retorted, with just the same tone.

Acedia sighed. "I suppose you can sit in here until all of them are dead."

"Until all of whom are dead? The archers or the rest of the party?"

"Doesn't matter, as far as I'm concerned. Either way the arrows will stop firing." Acedia shrugged, or at least approximated the movement as closely as possible while in the wolf's body, and turned over, staring at the opposite wall. Not out of anger or anything - it's just that her back was cold and Taryn was a good source of radiant heat.

Prosper inched along the tree, positioning himself behind the drow. He thrust out wiht his spear, and the archer fell with a scream and a whole in her neck.

The hammer smashed through the tree and splintered it into thousands of little shards of wood. The Drow snipers who were in the tree (both of them) fell out and landed hard on the ground below.

"How do you think they're faring?" Taryn asked after a brief moment of...relative silence.

"Who? The archers or our friends?"

"Both."

It was at this moment that Horin's spell asploded the tree. "Sounds like we're winning," Taryn said, after wincing at the loud noise.

"Oh, goody."

Prospers attack had alerted the nearby drow, who were now taking shots at him when they wern't firing on those below. Prosper went around the tree to where it was safe. The tree a few limbs down suddenly exploded, startleing him. After getting his wits back, Prosper moved to the next tree while the drow we're busy with Horrin.

Captain Sealem's men had been out patrolling the perimeter, but they haddn't been prepared for invisible attackers perched in trees. One by one, they fell with arrows sticking out of them untill there were only three left.

Maxwell and Farnham came into camp, pushing Horin's Wagon themselves (they has unhitched the horse to keep it safe) and using the watter barrels on it for cover. Maxwell called out to Marcus: "What are waiting for? Get those Drow!"

Captain Sealem was crawling through the underbrush, using his Elven Cloak to remain hidden.

Prosper found that the Drowish arrows aimed at him were being deflected by the amulet the Emperor had given him. That meant the arrows were magical becasue the Emperor has said that the amulet would make Prosper immune to Drowish magic. If Micheal could just get an anti-magic shell up, that would make this battle a whole lot easier... but Micheal was still down with fatigue.

Horin threw an ax into a Drow's forehead. Then he looked at Prosper, or more so, the arrows seemingly bouncing off of him. "The arrows are magic. great." He said aloud, not seeing anyone around him to cast Shield of Faith upon. Not that Prosper needed it, but Horin couldn't get back to Maria now to help her. He let out a Dwarvish battle scream and charged into a pack of Drow, swinging his hammer, crushing them with each blow. His eyes were ablaze, the Dwarvish fighting instinct was coming alive. A knife flew out of nowhere and lodged in the tree behind him. Where did that come from? He tried to make his way back to Prosper, hoping to get to the boy before a non-magical arrow hit him (Meaning Prosper). Drow and dead Drow were everywhere, coming out of nowhere.

Aurieul soon managed to get to Eruantian without being noticed. Well, without being hit at least. Maybe the Drow didn't see her as a threat. She could use that to her advantage. She jumped out from behind a small bush directly behind the Drow... and realized she no longer had Tem's dagger. Oops. How could she have forgotten to get a weapon before leaving town?

Was she strong enough to fight the Drow barehanded? She didn't really think that through, as she'd already begun her attack, so she attempted to put the Drow in a headlock.

Horin was getting close to Prosper now. So far he had killed by estimation over 30 Drow, not counting the ones crushed by the tree. He knew that if he got close enough to Prosper, his hammer would bless him, it was just a matter of getting close enough to everyone to do that. "Make your way towards me, boy!" Horin yelled. "Looks as though we'll have to win this by ourselves." He added. "I'll get closer to you and toss you my other axe." Within thirty seconds, and not less than three Drow, the axe was in the air, tossed lightly so that the handle was aimed towards Prosper. I hope he can catch.

Maxwell and Farnham raised their shields and brandished their swords, and then let loose with a war-cry. "Charge!" came the cry.
The two of them, Marcus in tow, rushed the remaining Drow. The Drow stood their grounds, but the three easily finished them.

"We're one headstrong bunch," commented Acedia. "Those Drow are dropping like flies, it seems."

"How can you tell they're Drow? You've been in here the whole time, and I know you - you're not the type to watch a battle. You're either in it or couldn't care less."

"The smell. Drow have a distinctive odor. It's like a mix of mildew and blood."

"Lovely."

"Isn't it, though."

Prosper had just killed his second Drow in his second tree. When the dark elf screamed every arrow was on him with nowhere to hide. The boy was about to scream when he noticed that the arrows simply curved around him or lost momentum when they came near. It was then that Prosper noticed that his amulet was glowing and felt quite warm on his chest. He smiled, this was good to know. He was about to move on to the next tree when he heard Horrin call him. Prosper did as he was told, manuvering as quickly as possible with his arm, which was scolding him for using it like this, through the trees tworeds the healer. When Horrin threw his axe Prosper tried to catch it, but the distance was a little too great. It fell to the ground beneath him. Prosper looked up to see Sealem, his men, Maxwell, Farnaham, and Marcus rush what appeared to be the last of the drow. Prosper sat down on the limb he was standing on, letting his left arm hang loose. The bandage needed to be changed again. He smiled, however small his part had been, he felt like he had acctually contributed something in this battle.

<Continued from my last post.>
Drek snapped off an arrow at the center Drow facing him, then quickly ducked and rolled to avoid the arrows of the other two. As he came up from his roll, he dropped his bow so he could pull his dagger and stab one of the Drow. He removed the dagger from the chest of the dead Drow and shoved the body at the remaining attacker. With the Drow distracted, Drek was able to slash at his face with his dagger.

The elf grabbed his bow from the ground and turned to face the remaining Drow.
