Farnham started chatting along the way: "Hey Drek, thanks for bagging the geese. I'm sure everyone appreciates it. The thing is.. um.. I don't know ho to pluck a goose. I mean... I know you have to get the feathers off before you can roast it or the thing will catch fire.. I mean, I know how to cook one.. but I've never plucked one before. Can you show me how when we get back?"

Maxwell laughed: "He's not kidding Drek. When we were kids, we used to camp up here with dad on holidays, and dad tried to show us how to pluck a chicken once. Farnham said it was yucky and wouldn't do it."

Farnham said: "Hey, I was three five old. Give me a break."

Maxwell said: "OK, ok... the point is, he's never been good with animals. Especially dead ones. They creep him out or something."

Farnham kind of shrugged but didn't say anything. It looked like he wasn't contesting the point. After an silence he said, calmly: "But anyways, can you teach me how to puck a goose Drek?"

"This Ring of Blue Fire grants he who wears it the cold touch of an Ice Forger" Eruantian recited "Command of Blue Fire is a great responsibility. Bear it with all consequences of your actions." Eruantian put the ring on his finger and kept it at eye level. His hand radiated a bright blue light.

Suddenly, Eruantian and Aurieul vanished in a blaze of blue light.

Micheal, sitting on a rock reading his spell book, looked up just in time to see the fading blue light. Flabergasted, he drops his book runs over to where Eruntian and Auriel had been a few moments ago. "I don't believe it."

<<<Somewhere else>>>

Eruntian and Aurieul find themselves in a strange place... a wind-swept ice-field that by rights should be bonechillingly cold... and yet neither Eruntian nor Aurieul feel cold at all. Eruntian and Aurieul are dressed differently.

Aurieul is wearing a formal gown made from thousands of delicate woven strands of glass. Upon her head is an outlandishly ornate hat made entirely of feathers, and in her hand is a lacy parasol, (the kind that high-society women walk around with as a status symbol).

Eruntian is dressed in a suit of clothes that looks fit for a prince, with a silk handkerchief flowing out of his left breast pocket and a very ornate walking stick in his hand.

<GM's NOTES:
Neither Eruntian nor Aurial has any idea what just happened or where they are. This doesn't look like the strange world Eruntian was in before (the one that was inside his mind when he went into a coma following his battle with the dire-wolf). The place isn't cold, but it looks like it should be cold. The snow is snow, the ice is ice, but it's not cold. In short, some of the natural laws are different here. Play along guys, 'k? I'm going somewhere with this.>

Eruantian could not believe his eyes. At first he thought he might have been in another trance, but there were several inconsistencies with that assumption, not the least of which was the fact that he was not alone. Unless he was dreaming of Aurieul too, this was not the same magic that bound his unconscious mind to the ring.

"What just happened? Where are we? Was that your ring?" Aurieul had no idea where she was, what she was wearing, or why she wasn't cold. There was snow and ice...shouldn't she be cold? Hopefully Eruantian knows what's going on. He wouldn't use the ring unless he knew what would happen, right?

Well this is wonderful. I've been back less than an hour and already we're separated again. What's he doing using a broken magical ring if he doesn't know the consequences?...That's not going to help right now. We need to figure out where we are.

"Do you recognize this place? Maybe we should start walking."

Aurieul tried to keep her frustration out of her voice, but she didn't even know this guy very well and now they were alone together...together alone? indefinitely. Despite not knowing the others much longer (a matter of days, really) she felt more attached to them. Actually, thoughts of possible rescue and the little kindnesses shown her by them had helped her to be strong in Targos.

"I've been to a similar place... sort of..." Eruantian replied while deep in thought "But that place was actually cold... Hmm... We might not have to walk anywhere at all. If putting on my ring sent us... to where ever this is, removing it might send us back." Eruantian reached for his ring...

As Eruntian moved the ring, he felt his personality begin to change like it always did when took the ring off or put it on... but his surroundings didn't change at all. Nope. His female companion was still there, the snow still wasn't cold, and the forest he'd been in just a minute ago was nowhere to be seen.

Just then, he heard a horse-hoof striking snow. And then another one. A horse and rider could now be seen coming over a nearby hill. The rider called out: "Hail, and well met. I see you are not well at ease with your surroundings. I bid ye welcome to my world, honoured guests. Allow me to introduce myself: Maria Mourte, Paildan of Tyr, at your service. May the peace of Try be with you." The rider was a female Elf, clad in a suit of gold-embossed Plate Mail. The suit of armour was evidently a dress uniform. At her side hung a longsword in a scabbard. The rider continued: "You must have many questions. I shall dismount so that we may converse properly. Is that acceptable to you?"

"... Well, if there aren't any objections..." Eruantian replied, expecting an addendum from Aurieul "... I don't see why not..." Eruantian had hoped that Aurieul would be more charismatic than he was. Diplomacy and awareness of motives were not his strong points; after all, he did not often leave his house.

<<<Meanwhile, back at the camp>>>
In the space where Eruntian and Aurieul had vanished in a brief glow of blue light was an flat image of them and their surroundings. Micheal could see Eruntian and Aurieul and hear what they were saying. He heard somone call out to them, and he heard Eruntian's reply, but he couldn't see who it was they were talking to.

Micheal quickly focused his perception into the Manasphere; the layer of magic energy that surrounds the world, the source of energy that magicians tap when they cast spells. What he saw surprised him: The image wasn't disturbing or interacting with the Manasphere in any way at all.

Micheal thought to himself: "Oh man, that's not arcane magic. I could try and stop it with an anti-magic shell, but I don't know what would happen to Eruntian and Ariuel if I did that.. too dangerous, I'd better not try that. OK, so there's no way to know what this is from here..... but... Hmmm, if it was a talisman or an enchanted artifact powerful enough to do what I think it's doing, I should be able to see some ripples in the manasphere.. Hey! I'd bet it's a Divine Magic effect. Divine Magic works completely different than Arcane Magic. That would explain why I can't see it in the Manasphere. Probably won't be able to see it in the Astral Plane either. OK, let's see what I can learn by asking questions. Here goes nothing."

Micheal called out: "Aurieul! Eruntian! Hey... hey can you hear me? Hey, guys! Hey.... "

<GM's Note: Eruntian and Aurieul can hear Micheal... but they can't hear the campfire, or the trees, or anything else from the place Micheal is in. To Eruntian and Aurieul, he sounds like he's just a few feet away... but they can't see him at all.>

<<<In the place that Eruntian and Auriuel are in>>>

Micheal's voice suddenly could be heard, calling out to Eruntian and Aurieul by name and asking if either could hear him. As this happened, Maria Mourte dismounted from her horse and began walking toward Aurieul & Eruntian's position. She didn't say anything, and she kept her hands by her side.

"Eruantian, talk with Michael. I don't see him, but if we can hear him, maybe he can hear us. He may know something we don't. I'll see what I can learn from her." As she said this, Aurieul took a few steps toward the elf so they could talk.

"Where did you say we are? Why aren't we cold? Do you know how we got here?" Am I asking too many questions?
