Marcus was just standing there doing nothing, so he went back to circling the camp looking for stuff to fight.

[We don't use hitpoints & attack names here.]

Marcus drew his claws, giving the beaver a good slashing before picking it up in one hand and hurtling it quite a distance.

"The- pt, beavers don't usually attac- pt, around here." said West as he spit the last of the not so tasty berries out of his mouth.

Aurieul had stopped crying by this point, and realized she probably seemed quite foolish for bursting into tears when nothing was wrong.

"I should get my horse. I left him a ways from the camp."

After being told that Aurieul's crying was not his fault(and that he was apparently Acedia's personal court jester), Eruantian decided that distancing himself from Aurieul at the moment wasn't really necessary... and that Acedia owed him five coppers for the "cheap entertainment". "Allow me to accompany you, Aurieul" Eruantian offered. Though an outsider among Humans and a stranger to the Elves, Eruantian finally found someone he could call 'his own kind'. This would be the first time he would ever get a chance to converse with another Half-Elf and he wouldn't miss it for having all his belongings back with interest.

<A note on beavers: For the record, beavers are not predators... unless you consider the eating of plants predation. They're vegetarians; They only eat vegetation. You'd really have to work hard at picking a fight with a beaver to get it to attack you. Now pet your beaver and show it some love.

That's my five cents.>

Maxwell said: "So, you found water, eh Drek? Alright, then! Let's all go take Horin's waggon over there and fill up them empty barrels. By my reckoning, between the water barrels and our personal waterskins we should have enough drinkable water to make it to White Dragon Peak."

Farnham said: "Yeah, that so long as we don't waste any on luxuries like bathing or shaving."

Captain Sealem said: "No offense to you gentlemen, but I do belive we should defer to Prince Drek on this matter. After all, he is an experienced Ranger, and we are not." And then to Drek, he said: "What say ye, M'lord?"

Maxwell and Farnham suddenly realised that they had foolishly neglected to consider weather or not the wagon could get to the water source and back... aparantly they hadn't thought that far ahead. They were a bit red-faced as the realisation of this dawned upon them.

<It's up to Exhibit A to decide if Horin's wagon can get to the pond and back without getting stuck... whatever he says about this goes :)

"Thank you" Aurieul replied and began to lead the way back to her horse. "I'm sorry for my reaction earlier, it was nothing personal. I believe you were inquiring about my background?"

"Yes," Drek replied, "the ground was fairly stable, there shouldn't be any problem getting the wagon there. Come, I'll show you the way." He turned to Acedia. "While we're gone, would you mind starting breakfast, Acedia? There are some goose eggs in my pack."

Tem smacked the back of the humanoid beaver's head and woke it up. "Talk," he said, holding it by the beaver's tail, "What do you know about perducci--I mean what in sdfyujhgvesdkjfbgvkjsdvhjkser's name are you doing here. I know you can talk, rat."

"Sure, no problem. Let me just magically obtain any kind of cooking skill whatsoever," Acedia said, giving Drek a contemptuous look. It's true. Acedia lacks the ability to do anything culinary that is more complex than boiling water, and even then there's a good chance that something will go wrong and the boiling water will be rendered useless. It's not like she's ever had a need to learn to cook, either - she came from an upper-class family that employed a cook, spent much of her life going from tavern-inn to tavern-inn and thus still having her meals made for her, and then once she got the pendants, she could just go kill a squirrel or something and eat it raw.

Taryn sighed. "I'll do it. Go take a nap, Acedia." And Taryn set to work makin' some goose eggs, which would very likely have ended up as little piles of ash if Acedia was the one preparing them for consumption.

{ by the way ten10 - you may want to update your St. Patrick's Day countdown, since it's /two/ days from now...not five. Unless you're weird and celebrate your March 17th three days late.

by the by the way everybody: Happy Ides of March! XD Unless you happen to be Julius Caesar. Then not-so-happy Ides of March. }

<Beavers don't talk>
The now very annoyed beaver said: "Hey, put me down! I saw a really good tree and I wanna go chew on it. Come on buddy, can't you see I'm trying to build a beaver dam? I got places to go, trees to fell, bark to chew. Busy beaver busy beaver busy beaver busy beaver! What's the big idea picking me up anyways? Come on, leeme go! I got 45 kids and three wives to feed and these teeeeeeeeeeeeth aren't gonna sharpen themselves."
And then he tried to chew on Tem's arm. "Ew... fleshy. Hey, what kind of Treant are you anyways? I think you need to see a druid, your bark tastes horrible. Kinda chewwy, and moist. And your sap is disgusting."

<That's right, the Beaver thinks Tem is a tree. Welcome to Bizzaro-land, folksImage>

"You sir, are an eediot, Bigamist, and above all, breaking the laws of nature set down by KJlufbhkjabfgvijesrvg. I'm a High Flayer, not treant, and that other guy, he's a Lizardman, so there." said Tem. He let the Beaver down. What a freak he thought.

The beaver scurried off and imediately started chewing on a tree behind Tem. The busy beaver gnawed on the bark all around the tree and made little 'satisfied' noises as it went, cutting the tree all the way to the core untill it fell over. It wasn't a very large tree, only about eight feet tall, a young pine tree. The beaver said:: "Mmmm... fresh sap!" And dragged it off into the bush... never to be seen again."
<thus ends our bizzare foray into the world of talking beaver. Now let us never speak of it again.>

Meanwhile, back at the camp...

Maxwell and Captain Sealem brought Horin's waggon over, half-full of empty barrels. "Ok, lead on, Drek."

Just then, Micheal came out of his tent, yawning. And scratching his back. he said: "Did I hear someone say Aurieul is back, or did I dream that. 'casue I had some really weird dreams last night."

<Well done sarge. Meanwhile, back at the berry bush...>
Prosper began picking berries and putting them in his sack. Noticing West's face he remarked, "You could peel bark off a tree with that look."

Marcus didn't find any more threats on his tenth circuit around the general area, so he went back to Maxwell & Farnham.

"Nothing troubling 'round here, Mister Sirs! Just a little beaver, but I threw him good."

Drek gave Marcus a confused look. "A beaver? You know, beavers aren't... never mind. Come on, the pond is this way." Drek started off in the direction of the pond, leading the way for the others.

Tem looked around. "hmmm... forests break laws of nature. No wonder my kind lives underground.

Not that Marcus had asked her or anything, but...

"Forests break laws of nature, that's what he means," Taryn piped up. "Once you pass the first line of trees, nothing is necessarily subject to the constraints of time or space, and therefore strange things happen, strange things that only ever happen in forests, according to reports. I knew of a forest once that seemed to go out of its way to mess with the wayward traveler's mind. An anomaly of a wood, too - evergreen to the east, deciduous to the west, and a very neat division between them - but nonetheless the mass of trees was just referred to as one forest." Nevermind whether or not Tem was being serious. Taryn certainly was serious, evidenced by the deadpan look on her face.

Of course, she'd have the same look on her face if she was telling you that your head was on fire and may she have some of it. So maybe that's not the best thing to judge by.

Marcus again had the confused dog look on his face. His race wasn't known for its intelligence, so the laws of nature were like outer space to him.

Captain Sealam said: "Marcus, go check on Master Prosper for me, will you? I'd feel better if you were guarding him. Besides, they might need a hand foraging. Oh, and tell Horin we borrowed his waggon to go fill up his empty barrels with water. We'll be back soon."

And with that, Captain Sealem, Maxwell and Farnham led Horin's wagon into the forest, with Drek leading the way.
