{ He probably should have indicated that. Just so, you know, everyone else knows what he means, too. }

As the smoke began to clear, Drek was able to see the ogre-mage from his perch in the tree, as well as his teammates rushing towards it. He leaped down from the branch and approached the ogre-mage, bow at the ready, just as the Simicalariums disappeared.

As the Ogre-Mage unleashed his spell, everyone near the Ogre-Mage (except Propser, who is immune to Drowish Magic thanks to the Suldeneselarian artifact he wears) were turned to stone.
Drek was too far away to be affected, as were Horin, Micheal, and Acedia.

As Drek approached the spot where the Ogre-Mage should be, he saw statues of his friends surrounding Proper, who was facing off with a Drow Sorcerer!

Micheal, who was still watching from Astral Space, saw that the Ogre-Mage was actualy a Drow who has previously been Polymorphed into an Ogre-Mage! This was all some sort of elaborate trap! Micheal quickly came out of his Astral trance, and said to Horin: "It's a trap! A Drow was masquerading as the Ogre-Mage this whole time! He's turned everyone except Propser and Drek to stone! I gotta call lighting on him before it's too late!"

And so, Micheal cast Call Lightning, one of his most powerful spells, and then collapsed from the strain.

A brilliant bolt of lightning flashed from the sky and struck the Drow Sorcerer in the head with a tremendous thunderclap, flash-frying him and burning his clothes off. Amazingly, though, the Drow Sorcerer wasn't dead! He fell forward, dazed and in obvious pain, but he didn't die. Since his skin was already black, Drek couldn't tell if his skin had been burned or not, but he was sure of one thing: He'd never have a better opportunity to kill the bastard.

When Tem was stonified<word?> he didn't die. Instead, he entered Ethereal space. This wasn't the psion, but everyone has an ethereal aura, and Tem could to some extent draw it out. He concentrated, and the drow was suddenly having an out-of-body experience. Tem immediately decked th sorcerer, still adjusting to this unfamiliar terrain.<or is everyone really, truly dead? I do have a good idea for a new geomancer character...>

<You are temporally petrified. Don't worry, it's not gonna be permanent. Mass-Petrification is a sustained spell, and it's effects go away when the spell stops being sustained. Hence, if Drek manages to kill the Drow, everyone goes back to normal... or in your case as close to normal as you can get  >

Drek ran over to the dazed Drow and kicked him in the side to flip him onto his back. Pointing his bow down, he pulled back the string and sent an arrow flying straight into the Drow's throat. Just to be sure, he then pulled his dagger and stabbed it into the Drow's heart.

"No more tricks from you." he said as he plunged the dagger into the Drow's exposed chest.

The Drow's Mass Lesser Petrification spell ended, and everyone was normal again.

With a dagger through the heart and a a barbed arrow right through his neck, the Drow Sorcerer was dying. He didn't have long to live. A handfull of seconds at most.

Maxwell felt sick, as did everyone else who had been turned to stone. Being turned to stone and back again is not a pleasant experience. Maxwell said: "Ooooh my head. I feel like I took a hammer to the head and I think I'm about to loose my lunch. Drek, what.. what happened? Where did this Drow come from?"

The Sorcerer struggled to say something, blood gurgling up from his mouth as he tried to speak, but only a weak whisper came out, and then he breathed his last. No one heard what his last words were.

Captain Sealem, doubled over in pain, said: "That's one of your arrows in the dead Drow, Prince Drek. Did you slay him all by yourself?"

"Dibs!" Tem yelled, and pounced on the Drow, and... yeah.

"The Ogre-Mage we were fighting was this Drow, Polymorphed into an Ogre-Mage." Drek responded. "And no, Captain, I didn't kill him myself, Michael weakened him with Call Lightning, and I was able to deliver the final blow."

Drek leaned over the Drow's body and retrieved his arrow from the neck, wiping the blood off before replacing it in his quiver.

Eruantian, having shaken off his stone sickness, mostly, decided to inspect the remains of the Drow. There wasn't much left to look at, save an amulet around the Drow's neck that miraculously survived the called lightning. "Any idea what this is?" Eruantian asked no particular person as he picked up the charred talismon.

Taryn fell backward immediately after being released from her stony prison. "Augh. I hate it when that happens," she muttered, getting to her feet after a moment. "Always so dizzy afterward," she continued, talking to no one in particular.

"Oh, good, it's dead," she observed, taking a slightly uncertain step forward. "Is there anything worth taking on the body? Ooh, an amulet. Nice find, um, Eruantian," she said, taking care to try and pronounce his name. XD

Acedia, feeling kind of lonely and bored, climbed out of her tree and found her way to the others. "What excitement did my cowardly self miss?"

"Oh, not much. Pyrotechnics, hand-to-hand combat, we all got turned to stone, but other than that, nothing."

"What happened?" said West.
Then Malt said, "Um West, I think we-"
"Wait, don't wanna know." said West in a satisfied voice.

Maxwell said to West: "So, what were you doing out here in this forest?"

Meanwhile, Micheal was still unconscious from his overwhelming spellcaster fatigue. Horin knew that no healing magic would help, and that only rest would let Micheal recover.

"Would anyone happen to have a sleeping draught?" Horin asked aloud, knowing that it was the one thing he didn't bring with him.

Prosper stood at the still form of the Drow. "Stupid," he mumbled to himself. "I let my chance get away. I could've gotten to him." Prosper sighed. Oh well, maybe better luck would come next time.
Prosper turned to look at Eruantian. He stoped,"Wait, that amulet looks a bit like the ring I found a couple of day's erlier. Does it have an etching of a mountain with lines coming out of the top? Maybe a symbol at the bottom? Come to think of it, who has that ring?" Prosper's voice had become more and more eager as he realized that he might still be able to help.

"Well, a fine question you propose! You see I was once a great miner until many orcs infiltrated our mines and killed everyone but, you guessed it, me. I wondered away to find purpose until I came along Malt. Malt was a hermit who's family had been eaten by minotaurs many years ago. So we banned together to better each other's lives. In other words I live here in Malt's giant mushroom house. Now that I see you and your friends I wonder if I squander my life living here, so Malt and I have come to the conclusion of joining your cause!" said West in possibly the longest bout he had ever spoken. Malt just nodded his head in agreement.

<Prosper is referring to the ring of the Drowish Psion/Mage that was making illusions way back in that Logging town the part was in before they came to Targos. That ring turned out to be just a ring, but Maxwell still has it.>

Farnham pulled out the Ring that Prosper was referring to: "I have it right here. Let's see if the ring looks like the amulet does. Hrm... yep, the engraving is similar. Onyx in the middle, silver/gold band around the outside, glyphs of some sort engraved on the back. Unless I miss my guess, they're part of of a matched set. Do you concur, Maxwell?"

Maxwell said: "You're right, they definately are from the same jeweler's shop. Good thing we didn't sell the ring back in Targos, it will fetch a much higher price as part of a set."

Captain Sealem said: "Hey, where's Horin.. and Micheal... no wait, there they are. Looks like Micheal passed out. Must have been that the Lightning he used to fry the Drow was too much for him. Well, we might as well camp here. We're not likely to find a larger clearing than this, and I'm sure everyone's tired now. Being turned to stone and then back again seems to do that to you. Marcus, clear the ash out of that old firepit. I'll go with Acedia and Maxwell to scrounge for kindling. Ok, everyone, my men and I will organize a security perimeter for the night. Set up your tents around the firepit in a circle. Farnham, you take command of first watch, I'll take second watch, and we'll put Drek in charge of third watch. Each watch is three hours, starting when the sun goes down, so that covers the whole night. My men and I have a standard watch-rotation we follow when camping, so no need for you to tell who to go on what watch.

Farnham replied: "Fine, but how do we count off three hours with no sun to go by?"

Captain Sealem pulled out a tiny little hourglass that hund on a chain around his neck and showed it to the group. It seemed much too small to count off three hours. Captain Sealem continued: "It's of Gnomish design. Despite it's size, the sand takes one full hour to go from one chamber to the other. So, the watch commander has to turn it over three times to make one full watch of the night. As you can see, there's three little beads on it. They're on clasps of a rather clever design. You snap the beads around the middle to count off how many hours have gone past. You can't move more than one bead at a time, so that makes it easy to keep track of how many times you've turned it over."

Drek said: "Interesting. Wherever did you get something like that?"

Captain Sealem said: "I got it from the owner of an Gnomish Airship that had parked itself in the market district of Suldeneselar City. Best little trinket I every bought."

Drek said: "Well, it's certainly functional, I'll give it that. Come on, Marcus, let's pitch Micheal's tent for him."

Horin moved to set up his tent, and then he paused. "What about Michael?" He said in the general direction of the Captain.

After Drek and Horin had gotten Michael settled in his tent, he found a spot inside the ring of tents and laid out his bedroll. He preferred sleeping under the stars, so he didn't have a tent with him, just a few poles and a sheet of canvas in case of rain.

Taryn took advantage of the fact that she hadn't been given direct orders this time and made herself comfortable at the base of a rather interestingly bent tree. Because she did not sleep, she had no tent or anything of the sort, you see. Granted, she could have volunteered to help some other people, but that would just go against pretty much everything she stands for, which isn't too terribly much as it is.

Acedia, who apparently was helping to scrounge for kindling, did so in silence. There didn't seem to be very much to say at this point. Perhaps later, once their camp had been set up and everyone had a chance to really unwind (or come as close as possible to doing so), some storytelling might be in order. That would be nice. Acedia loved stories.

At some point while she was gathering sticks, Acedia realized that she, like Taryn and Drek, lacked a tent. She usually snuck into inns and hid in the warm, dry rooms. Oh, well. If she had to, she'd just sleep as a wolf, so the chill night air wouldn't bother her as much.

Captain Sealem intejected: "I'd best fetch your wagon then, Horin. Stay and attend to the Mage whilst I lead your wagon over here."

Maxwell turned to West & Malt: "Taryn's blast cleared out a lot of the mushrooms, but there's still a whole lot of them lying around. Say, Malt, are these things edible?"

Marcus didn't have a tent; Lizzardmen prefer roughing it. So all he used for sleeping was a nice, big, somewhat flat rock on which to lay his cloak. He was the toughest of the bunch, by far.

Prosper helped set up camp as best his injured arm would allow. He chose his tent, and got a bedroll from Horrin's wagon. After getting his side of the tent set up he walked to the center of the camp. Thanks to the speed of Sealem's men, it was beginning to look like a camp. Nothing much left to do here, he thought. He went back in his tent and promptly fell asleap.
