"Yea, I was wondering where all those orcs would go." Prosper remarked. Then he leaned to Marcus. "Hey, how fast could you go with me on your back?" |

"I can go pretty fast," said Marcus,"but I can't carry you and fight at the same time. At least, I've never tried before. Just be ready to jump off in case I need to draw my sword." |

The party proceeded further through the forest. After about an hour, they aproached a clearing. Drek said: "Looks like that place has been used as a campsite for a long time. See the abandoned fire pit and the old tent pegs? Must be an Orcish hunting campsite. In fact, I think I see some Orcs coming now. I don't think they see us. Everyone, get down low and hide. Let's see what they're up to." Marcus could smell four Orcs, three males and one female. Also, something else.. something he had smelled just once before. He couldn't quite place it. Micheal laid down and did some Astral Projection. He could see the Orcs, and they were not magically active: None of them were spellcasters, they did they have any spells active on them nor did they have any magic items. The Ogre-Mage, however, was another story. He was a full-on spellcaster and he was surrounded by an artificial aura of charisma and charm... obviously the effects of some spell he was maintaining. Micheal could see that he was carrying some sort of enchanted item... perhaps a staff or a amulet of something like that. The item wasn't active at the moment, so Micheal didn't know what kind of effect it generates. <GM's Note: In Astral Space, things that are not alive do not show up at all. Magic, however, always is evident. Thus, Micheal can see the magic of the magic item, but not what form the item has.> Micheal quickly returned to his body, ready to tell his companions of what he'd seen as soon as he could. |

Marcus suddenly stood up straight, causing Prosper to fall off his rippling back. "I smell 'em coming! And sommin' else, too...Can't quite tell what it is..." |

"Wait, I think I see something." said Tem. He and his squad went into the bushes. ... 2 seconds later, Tem and his squad come flying out of the bushes, and land into some trees, knocking them unconcious. |

Prosper stifled a cry as he fell of Marcus' back. He got up into a crouch and readied his spear. He saw Tem and his team come flying out of the brush at the orcs. "What is he doing?!" Prosper asked. |

Marcus smelled something again. "I think I know what it is...but it doesn't smell evil at all...I smell an Elf." |

"hooohooohooo... pretty stars, hoo..." said Tem. He was actually still coherent mindwise, and he could see fine, but the blow injured him badly. He'd be fine in a few hours, but for now he was helpless. |

"Naw, it's not an Elf..." Marcus kept sniffing. "I dunno what it is, some kinda monster, but I'm not sure." For some reason, he didn't hear the THUD! of Prosper's landing until a couple minutes after the boy plopped on the rock. "Sorry about that, kid." |

Acedia contented to hide..oh, behind a rock or something. Taryn, however, remained standing. "Somehow I don't think this is going to be particularly difficult," she commented. |

A dwarf stuck his head out of some distant bushes. He looked left and right and when he spotted the orcs he raised himself out. "ORC SCUMBAGS!" West Smithy yelled as he held up a broadsword. He was a tall dwarf (at 4' 3") wearing simple clothing all except a finely crafted chain mail vest. His curly beard came down to his mid stomach area. He ran toward the orcs in a violent rage swinging his sword about. "You killed my family. Now I'll kill y-GRACK!" he was held in a vice-grip of the neck by one of the smarter of the orcs. His face color was beginning to fade to a blue. |

Micheal, coming out of his Astral Projection trance, whispered: "Guys, there's an Ogre-Mage in the clearing with the Orcs. He's got some sort of Charm spell going... makes him more charismatic than he should be, and it induces those around him to follow his commands. Don't get too close to him until I can negate that spell." Drek whispered back: "Sounds like a Dwarf picked a fight with the Orcs... we better go help him. He doesn't sound like he's doing so well. Oh, and Tem just got his bell rung." Captain Sealem said: "I was hoping we could avoid this, but I guess we'll just have to rescue that Dwarf down there. Can't let the Orcs eat him, now can we? Micheal, can you anti-magic that Ogre Mage?" Micheal replied: "No, I need line-of-sight first. Cant target what I can't see." Farnham said: "Looks like we rush them, then." Captain Sealem said: "Agreed. First priority is to rescue the Dwarf. Second priority is to take out the Ogre Mage. Let's go." |

"hoogly moobly boogly boo..." said Tem, "Thank you once again for my pies. I spent particular effort on the Crème Bernard. It's such a lovely gathering of pies and pie people... Like to give a shout-out to Lemon Pretend over there..." what he really meant(and telepathied) was, "okay, I can provide basic psychic support now, but my body's still useless, and those guys cleaned my squad's clocks." |

Acedia raised a brow at Tem's inane ramblings. It was rather entertaining. However, she didn't leave her little spot by the rock. She was tired and it was getting a little late in the day, after all. Taryn went with the group. "It hasn't rained here lately," she observed, "which means if I'm to do anything, it won't involve any kind of flame. This entire forest is just a huge tinderbox. Embers from a pipe could easily set that clearing ablaze in minutes. I wouldn't mind, but somehow I don't think you all would feel the same way. None of you happen to smoke, do you?" |

{ ...Hey, Wesstarrunner. I have a present for you. It's called grammar. Use it - it makes you look less like an idiot. } "If you'd stayed in the clearing, you would be guarded by a wolf and possibly some flayers," she pointed out, although it probably wasn't the most comforting sentiment ever, when one thinks about it. { also Netzen - check Tegina at clockwork. } |

Marcus charged forth with his sword, taking some blows here and there but holding out well against the Orcs. He fought like a Lizzard thrice his age. [OOC: After tonight I'll be gone from the forum for a week or two, so Sarge is in control of Marcus.] |

Staying out of sight, Drek nocked an arrow and fired and the orc pinning the struggling dwarf. The orc screamed in pain as the arrow impacted n his arm, and released his grip on the dwarf. As the orc looked around to locate his attacker, Drek fired another arrow that caught him squarely in the chest. The orc fell, and Drek ran into the clearing to the dwarf, bow at the ready. "Excellent strategy, charging alone into a group of orcs," the elf said sarcastically, "are you alright?" |
