Horin found the Captain. "My good Captain, sir, if you would allow young Prosper to rest, it would be greatly appreciated, and if you are in need of my services, whether it be healing the wounded, or making some wounds myself, I am in your service."

Taryn's attention turned to Prosper. "That wound really should be cauterized," she remarked, flicking a small ball of flame from the tip of her thumb to the tip of her pinky finger and back.

Prosper became fed up. "Taryn, what in all heaven's name are you talking about??!!! What is this...what ever it;s called!! Besides, I'll be fine. I just need to rebandage it and then we can go rescue Maxwell."
Prosper put a stubborn look on his face, hoping that it would end the matter, but knowing otherwise.

"Cauterized? It basically means using heat to stop the wound bleeding and shut it. It's used a lot at sea, should someone lose a limb - rather than let the bloody stump fester, they cauterize it, with hot metal - usually a heated sword." The little ball of flame returned again, waiting patiently on the tip of her index finger.

"You'll lose use of your arm, like as not," Acedia said grimly.

"...That /would/ be unfortunate, wouldn't it. Nevermind, then." Taryn balled her hand into a fist, causing the flame to go out. "Perhaps I just miss being able to heal."

"You never could heal."

"...I could so. /Kinda./"

"If you call necromancy 'healing'..."

Micheal, overhearing this said: "So you have abandoned the Dark Arts, Taryn. That explains a lot. I had been wondering about the source of your powers."

"That would make two of us," Taryn replied, with complete seriousness. "I have yet to understand how their process works." This was fairly vague, and so she offered absolutely no explanation as to who 'they' are and what kind of process 'they' used, and to what purpose.

<OOC: Okay I'm going to travel back to the time to page 53 I left to explain Michael's sudden personality change>

I should stop thinking about my father, regret is not what he wanted, I have to focus more on myself, not just for me or my father, but for the Uait, as it is the Uait way. And now I'm going to focus on helping the party.

Captain Sealem said: "Let us away." and with that he began to walk towards the street that leads to the livery stable.

<GM's puzzled note: You mean "...their respective positions"? What you wrote doesn't make sense otherwise.>

Interlude: Throne room of the Emperor of Suldeneselar.
A middle-aged Elf male is speaking.
"We know that the Drow have returned. They are here and they are real. We must take action, now before it is too late."
He takes his seat.
Another Elf rises to his feet. The Emperor speaks: "The Earl of Spremthensei has the floor."
"Thank you, Your Magesty. I agree that these are Drow and that they are real. Moreover, I believe that they are a threat. However, we also now that for the past five generations this empire has been in decline. If we are to return the Drow to that dark hole the ancients sealed them up in, we will need to muster all the resources of the Empire, and more. These Drow know the old ways that our ancestors relied on to defeat them long ages past: That way will not work this time. Howver, the Humans may be able to do it, even though we cannot.

This previous speaker jumps to his feet and shouts: "That is maddness! To do what you suggest would end our race within a generation. Better to die fighting the Drow!"

The Earl shouted back: "We are doomed either way, Kalith! Face it, we cannot hope to survive the Drow a second time. Have you not been paying attention? Our culture is in decline, our people stagnate, and anything we build does not endure! It is The Curse."

"Bah Curses are faerie tales are things for old women and children. We are neither, and so make our OWN destiny..."

A deafening crash spread forth from the throne of the Emperor.
As it subsided he spoke, in a clear, restrained and clearly displeased tone: "Silence!"

That was all he said, but the weight of those words was so impressive upon the occupants of the throne room that you could have heard a pin drop. Neither man moved a muscle.

After long pause
After a long silence
After what must have seemed like an eternity to the town men standing motionless....
The Emperor spoke again: "I think we know what we must do. Summon the Archmage. We travel to the Lizzardman Capitol."

The one called Kalith spoke: "But my Lord..."
The Emperor rose from his throne "Yes, Kalith?"
Kalith spoke: "My Lord, it is not safe. For all we know, the Lizzardmen have allied themselves with the Drow and plot against us. We must wait ultill our spies return."

The Emperor spoke again: "There is no time. I must speak with the Lizzard Queen. We need their support against the Drow as much as we need the Humans. We need not tell the Lizzards everything, just enough to convince them that the Drow threaten them as well as us."
Kalith replied: "Of course, My Leige... but what if we lose you in the process? I beg your pardon for suggestin such a thing, but I am duty-bound to keep you safe, especially now when we are at war with the Drow. Think of the people,of the nation: What would happen to them if we lost you now. I beg you to reconsider."

"All valid points to consider, and I have considered them all. No, this is inescapable. This is too important a matter to be left to underlings and envoys. I must see the Lizzard Queen with my own eyes if I am to rest easy in any alliance we might strike. Do you understand? I am the only one who can do this, and so it must be."

End Interlude

"Very well, Horin. One of my men will drive the wagon, you and Prosper ride in the back. Sgt. Kor will assist you, he has some limited training in first aid."
The group set off for the Livery Stable, and arrived a few minutes later.
Squad Two of Captain Sealem's contingent of Elven Swordsmen was nowhere to be seen... until they came out of their hiding places.
Captain Sealem said: "Report"
Their Liutenent spoke: "Sir, the kidnappers have not left the stable. Further, the Town Watch reports all secure at all four Town Gates."
Captain Sealem replied: "Squad Two will take over bodyguard detain from Squad One, protect Mister Hammerhand while he tends Master Propser's wounds.
Squad One, it's go time. Mister Marcus, wait for my signal and then bash through one of the walls. Acedia, Tayrn, take positions as near the doors as you can without being observed. When Marcus hits the wall and has the enemy engaged, open the doors and proceed to use your powers to effect fright upon the enemy. The rest of us will follow and attack while the enemy is frightened. If anything goes wrong, improvise. Use your inititive and keep on them. Primary objective is to rescue Mister Maxwell. Are we clear? Then let's go."
With that, Squad Two took up the bodyguard duties from Captain Sealem's group while Captain Sealem's group quietly moved into position.

<OOC>*Stops being remarkably distracted* Whoops... It seems I have missed a bit here...*reads*... Ok, time for an excuse.</OOC>

<Timewarp back>
As time progressed from when Eruantian awoke from the trance, gaps in memory of his dream began to manifest themselves over time as his personality gradually reverted to the way it was before the trance. However, when he put the ring back on to extinguish the flaming ruins of the tavern, the gaps in memory began to fill themselves in again as his grim, to-the-point attitude reinstated itself. This caused momentary disorientation that explains why he did not respond to what anyone said to him at the time. The rest of the time he spent all ears and no mouth, responding merely with gestures. One might assume that the personality brought on by wearing the ring was not very talkative.

At one point Eruantian decided to remove the ring from his hand, but that caused the chill in his muscles to return again, so he placed the ring back on his finger so he wouldn't be incapacitated during the attempt to rescue Maxwell. The only problem would be that his hand would cause wooden or leather sword grips to burst into flames, however the sword that Farnham took from the now atomized Frankie was not a normal sword. The grip, oddly enough, was made entirely of metal. Though normally not a good thing, it proved useful in this case for Eruantian.

"Aye, and don't get all killed, I don't want to have to rescue anyone." Horin said with a wink, and then added. "Come with me, Prosper, I need some supplies from my tent, and load up my wagon." And headed off for the camp...

Sgt Kor, Propser and Horin were in the back while one of the Elven Swordsmen drove. The Elven Swordsmen from Squad Two ran alongside the wagon as it rolled back to Horin's camp.

Meanwhile, Captain Sealem's Group were aproaching the Stable.

Pausing at the corner of a house, Farnham whispered: "How do you like our chances, Captain?"
Sealem replied, in a whisper: "I like them well enough, but I like them better if we make it to he stable undetected. When I say 'Go" run with me into the stable with all your strength and stay on my flank. You are a fencer: Do you know the K-ali'themdur?"
Farnham again whispered: "Hrm... I think I've heard of that. Isn't that an Elven two-man co-operative fighting style?"
Sealem whispered: "It is."
Farnham whispered: "I know of the principles involved in such manuvering, but I've never actually practiced it."
Sealem whispered: "No matter. Just stay on my flank as much as you can and keep your eyes on your opponents. I will do the same. Together we guard each other from being outflanked. It is a tactic I have often used in combating disorganized opponents like these low-life kidnappers."
Farnham nodded, seriously, and whispered: "I follow your lead then, Captain."
Sealem smiled a bit, whispering confidentialy: "You would make a fine solider, Human."
Farnham half-smiled and nearly laughed. He whispered, in a wry sort of way: "I'll tell my brother you said that. He needs a good joke after all this."
Both men had smiles on their faces now, and both proceeded in determined silence.
Finaly, They could see the side of the Stable. In the cover from the shade of a Oak tree, Captain Sealem peeked one eye around the corner of a house and put his right hand behind his back. He pulled his head back after a moment.
He backed a bit away from the edge of the house. He Whispered: "Change of plan: Marcus, you should be able to see me and still remain undetected from the house across the way, there do you see it?. The roof of that house a perfect spot. You can reach jump against the wall of the stable from there. A perfect opportunity for surprise. While you're on the roof, they can't see you: There's a continuous blind spot in their field of view if you approach from the rooftops. These look like thatched roofs, though: You'll fall right through if you miss any of the rafters. If you swing back along the road behind us and though the yards of these houses, you will be out of sight from the stable the whole way. Wait for my signal when you reach the roof closest to the stable, and then jump down and smash that wall. Good luck."
Captain Sealem turned to Acedia: "Ok, sneak up past the guards using one of your least noticible ways and get to the oposite wall of the stable, the one with the normal-sized door. When Marcus smashes the wall, that's your cue to start terrorizing these bastards."

Miss Taryn, no fire please. I don't want to chance burning the stable down: It's the only one this town has and they've already lost their Tavern today. I don't know what powers you posses, but if you can scare them without fire, then I ask that you do so when Marcus breaks through the wall. I trust you'll think of something... suitable. Ahem."

<Assuming Eruntian's here>
"Eruntian, stay here and guard this position just in case something goes wrong. If we don't make it, if the mission fails, get to Horin and tell him to make for White Dragon's Peak with all speed. We'll try and catch up. I'm putting a lot of trust in you: The boy must not fall into the hands of the Drow. Am I clear?"

"Yes, sir" Eruantian responded. He had felt that his newfound sword and ring skills were not being properly utilized as of yet, but one does not question a competent leader's order without reason, of which he had none.

Acedia nodded and started rooting through her pocket for the appropriate talismans - she planned to use the little bit of remaining juice in the rat medallion to get over to the stable, and then once at her post, to use the black panther amulet to terrorize.

Taryn looked dejected. "Oh, all right. I suppose that puts explosives out of the question as well...eh, I'll probably manifest myself as something with teeth, or poison. Or both."

When the time was appropriate to do so, Acedia quickly slunk to her post and made the switch, and then proceeded to wait. Taryn made her way to where she needed to be in her own manner which probably involved running quickly between trees or similar cover and humming a vaguely important-sounding theme song. Or maybe it was stealthier than that.

Horin arrived at his camp. "If you wouldn't mind, there are a couple of kegs of ale by the cooler, bring them here, would you?" He motioned to the Elven Swordsmen. "Prosper, would you like something to drink?"
<OOC>Little Known Fact: Dwarves had coolers back in Medieval times.
Leeroy Jenkins was known to kick back with a Coleman while enjoying fried chicken. I beleive he too had Ale Ones in his cooler.

Fornechk, a bolt...<Just so you know, Ixleflerb's my second in command.>

<OOC>The only known source of Ice anywhere near this part of Skara Brae at this time of the year is Eruantian. He had to make large quantities of ice several times a day just to keep up with the the demands of one town because it melts so quickly no matter what they do to make it last longer. Further more, he hasn't made any since his house burned down a day before the current time of the story.</OOC>

It had been a rough few weeks for the young boy of only 16. Then again, he had led a peculiar life ever since he was born. Until a few weeks ago, he had never known why. Why he survived an attack on his home the night of his birth. Why the only reason he did survive was because of the king and his Royal Guard. Why he had such great natural ability in pretty much everything he took up to learn. This word was a haunting to the boy until a few weeks ago, when all questions were answered.

But still, for one who didn't know a lot, he knew a lot. He could wield a sword as well as a 20 year veteran swordsman. Yet, his true skill was seen in the way he handled a bow. His technique upon wielding a bow seemed strange to some, but they could not deny the results. It was known that only the Elven folk could handle a bow with his Accuracy, Strength, Swiftness, and Agility. Yet he did so. Most would of said that he was an Elf, but why did he look nothing like one. Some say he was an Elf, but being raised by Man didn't allow his outward appearance to mature in the Elfish way. But still more was they could not explain how he had obtained the Strength, Endurance, Heart, and Sheer Dumb Luck of a Dwarf. Most people put two and two together, but a Dwarf and an Elf married? It was as far-fetched as the boy's skills themselves. Yet, it was possible, and that haunted the boy as well. Could he ever really fit in? He would pass off these conclusions with saying that it was extensive training that brang upon him these skills. But, growing-up he realized he could no longer lie to himself or any other. So he went to the King for the answer. The answer was more than he could bare, for he was an Asani.

An ancient race that had always been shunned for their qualities that could match up against any Human, Elf, or Dwarf. These three became afraid, for they did not like the ease at which the Asani spread across the land. Together the Dwarven Folk, Elven Folk, and Men banned together and started a war with the Asani. The Asani being an emotional race, easily letting their feelings control their action, ran. Surrendered they did, but never forgetting the evil that was put upon them. Savages they became, living in the wild. Using all of the skills and attributes they possessed to live and one day have revenge. This day finally arrived and a horrendous time this was. Asani race across the Land tearing, destroying, burning, plundering, and murdering all and everything that was in their path. City by City fell, none could hold off the assault. Finally though hope reclaimed itself within the last of the Great Three. The Great Three came together once more and put their differences aside. They prepared for the Great Battle that was to take place, the battle that would be the end of the Asani, or the end of the Great Three. Their would be no survivors on the army that would suffer loss. The battle began on Venerdì 13, Anuary. So massive the armies that the battle raged on for 7 whole days. Great was the slaughter. Tens of thousands of all races perished in the dreadful event, but now more were the Asani. Extinction finally came for them. But they had their revenge, so in peace they left. At least that is what is recorded in the Kingdom's records. For an Asani child was born Venerdi 27, Anuary. Word was out and a mob of drunkards who were still celebrating their victory decided they could earn some extra cash. Also though, the ears of the King were enlightened of the child and the mob, he ordered soldiers to the location immediately. A massacre ensued and the soldiers and parents of the child were all killed. Yet a few men of the mob remained. Towards the house they headed, when the King let aloose an arrow. It struck one of the men directly through the heart. They all turned and face the King as he dropped yet another man. The men charged sheepishly as their numbers were lessened by five with five arrows from the bow of the King. With only four drunken men left to fight, he jumped from his horse and expertly slew three of the four. The fourth man begged for mercy. The King, being exhausted from the fight, willingly obliged to let him go free. He gathered the infant Asani and raised him up as his own child. He was the only one knowing the truth, one Asani lived. Now the boy knew, and it struck him to the heart and into his very bones. A rage leaped up inside of him and he ran to the Royal Guards Barracks. Unsheathing his sword, he engaged the nearest guard. Thinking it was a game, the other guards watched and laughed as the fighting guard tried with all his might to stop the blows from young Oseph. Then there was a thud, and quiet. The others didn't understand, was this a test? Oseph then slew two more guards when the last nine decided that they should ban together to subdue the young boy. A wonderful display of swordsmanship was shown by both sides, but in the end, Oseph was the last remaining. The Endurance and Agility outlasted the men and his Strength wore them quickly and overpowered them all. Oseph, the boy, was hardly fazed by the skirmish, but the Royal Guard all lay dead. Oseph won, Oseph was a murderer. He grabbed a bow and ran to the stables. He saddled his magnificent steed, Nirvana. He then rode and rode for 3 weeks. He stopped in a little town with a few shops and a Tavern, the Red Lion. The tavern had a stables and plenty to eat and drink. What better place to start a new life?
